pratyabhijñā tāvat grahaṇātmikaivetyeke; tathāhi--- "pratyabhijñāyāmapi smṛtiranubhava ityaṃśabhedosti cet" ityāśaṅkya pratyuktaṃ śrīviṣṇucittaiḥ--- "yadi viṣayabhedaḥ, tadā aṃśabhedaḥ saṃbhavet; aikyameva hi niraṃśaṃ pratyabhijñāpratyakṣaviṣayaḥ /
kathaṃ saṃskāraḥaparokṣadhījanakaḥ iti cet, na, cakṣurādīndriyasahakṛtasya saṃskārasya jñāturaikyāt tadidamityaparokṣadhīhetutvopapatteḥ /
aparokṣārthaikyasādhikā /
sā pratyabhijñā soyaṃ vai pumānityevamātmikā /
saṃskāramātrajanyatvānna smṛtirmānameva tat" //

tasya kāladvayasambandhāviśiṣṭamekameva vastu viṣayaḥ /
na ca tadityaṃśaḥ smaraṇam, idamaṃśaśca grahaṇam, atītasambandhinīndriyasaṃprayogābhāvāt iti vācyam, tadidamiti sāmānādhikaraṇyena grahaṇasyaikatvasphuraṇāt /
pūrvānubhavajanitasaṃskārasacivendriyasaṃprayogayuktasya puruṣasya tathā grahaṇamupapadyata eva; anvayavyatirekādhīnaṃ hi sarvatra sāmagrīparikalpanam" iti /
anye tu atra dhībhedabāddhyaparihārau matvā tadidamaṃśayostadaṃśe saṃskārānvayavyatirekānuvidhānadarśanāt parokṣarūpatayā idamaṃśe ca patyakṣarūpatayā cobhayātmakatvamāhuḥ /
tanmate saṃskārādhīnaprakāśā smṛtiriti lakṣaṇam, aparokṣajñānaṃ pratyakṣam, ubhayalakṣaṇayogāt pratyabhijñāyāmubhayātmakatvam, iti /
abhyupagantavyaṃ cāsmatsiddhāntibhiḥ sarvaiḥ pratyakṣetarajñānānāṃ parokṣāparokṣarūpatvam, svayaṃprakāśatvāt, sarvajñānānāṃ vedyetarāṃśāpekṣayā ca pratyakṣatvāt /
uktaṃ cedaṃ śrīviṣṇucittairapi --- "svaprakāśakaṃ viṣayaprakāśakaṃ caikameva jñānam; tatra smṛtriranubhūtiriti kuto bhedaḥ ?" iti paricodya, "prakāśamānabhedāt, iti brūmaḥ; yathā--- gaurayamityekasminneva jñāne prakāriprakāraviṣayabhedena jñānāṃśabhedaḥ; yathā--- gaurayamityekasminneva jñāne prakāriprakāraviṣayabhedena jñānāṃśabhedaḥ; yathā ca ghaṭapaṭāvityekasminneva jñāneṃśabhedaḥ; yathā vā parābhyupagatabhramajñāneṣvadhiṣṭhānāṃśe prāmāṇyam, itaratrāprāmāṇyaṃ ca" iti parihārāt; tathā "smṛteḥ svaprakāśāṃśopi saṃskāramātraja eva, indriyādipratiniyatakāraṇāntarābhāvāt" iti paricodya "naivam, jñānānāṃ prakāśamānatvasya svābhāvikatvāt" iti parihārācca /

jātisaṃkarāsaṃkarādi tu darśanādarśanābhyāṃ vyavasthāpyam, aupādhikasaṃkarādivacca /
tadevamubhayātmakatvopapatteḥ pratyabhijñāpyubhayātmikā iti //
nyā. pa. śa. 52 pratyabhijñāpyabhijñāvat tridhā cākṣādibhedataḥ /
tattatsaṃskārasaṃbhedamūlatvānnavadhā bhavet //

yattu varadaviṣṇumiśrairuktam--- "gṛhītārthaviṣayaṃ śabdakāraṇakaṃ jñānaṃ saṃvādaḥ" iti, tadapi śābdāvāntarabhede saṃjñāviśeṣaniveśamātraparam;"na hi gṛhītārthaviṣayatve śabdaśaktiprasūtatvamapaiti; gṛhītamātragocarapramāṇāntarepi tadanyatvaprasaṅgāt; bhavati hi parvatoyamagnimāniti śabdaśravaṇānantaraṃ dhūmaṃ parāmṛśatopi tādṛśī buddhiḥ /
tathā dvitīyayogipratyakṣādāvapi draṣṭavyam /
anapekṣitatvādikamapi śrutaviṣayānumānādau samam /
na cāpekṣāyuktaṃ prāmāṇyaṃ bhedobhedo vā, tṛṇādipratyakṣasyāpi tathā prasaṅgāt" ityuktam /
kimarthaṃ tarhi vedānāṃ vedāntānāṃ cāprāptaviṣayatvaṃ samarthyate ? iti cet, atathāprāptau sākṣādaprāmāṇyaprasaṅgāt; tathāprāptāvapi anapekṣitatayā prekṣāvadbhirnirarthakaprayāsabhīrubhistyājyatvāpātena phalatoprāmāṇyaprasaṅgāt, iti paśya //
nyā. pa. śa. 54 upamānamapi yadi gṛhyamāṇapadārthagatasādṛśyavijñānāt smaryamāṇapadārthagatasādṛśyavijñānam, tadā smṛtiḥ, tattadvastusaṃsthānaviśeṣādyatiriktasya sādṛśyasyābhāvāt, tasya ca pūrvadṛṣṭatvāt, smaryamāṇatvācca /
vyavahāropyastvapūrvaḥ tattadvyavahāravat pratisambandhaviśeṣaparāmarśopādhikaḥ /
yadvā yo yatsadṛśaḥ, sa tadgatasādṛśyapratiyogī; yathā---mithaḥ svahastau, iti vyāptisiddhau gauretatsadṛśaḥ, etadgatasādṛśyapratiyogitvāt, ityanumānāt smaryamāṇagatasādṛśyāsiddhiḥ; anyathā gṛhyamāṇagatavaisādṛśyajñānāt smaryamāṇagatavaisādṛśyapratītirapi mānāntaraṃ syāt /
sā cet arthāpattiḥ, sādṛśyadhīrapi tathā kiṃ na syāt ? iti /
athavā yugapadeva tatsadṛśoyamiti pratyayenaivobhayavṛttisādṛśyasphuraṇānna taddhetukam, anyathā pṛthaganubhūtayostadānīmapratītasādṛśyayoḥ parastādyugapat smaryamāṇayoryugapadeva pratīyamānasādṛyayoḥko nirvāhaḥ ?, tatrāpi vā pramāṇāntaraṃ kalpyate ? /
yathā gauḥ tathā gavayaḥ, govad dviśapho na bhavatyaśvaḥ, dīrghagrīvaḥ pralamboṣṭho vikaṭākṛtiḥ paśuḥ kramelakaḥ, iti tu sādharmyavaidharmyadharmyamātraviṣayam /
trividhamapyatideśavākyamāgama eva /
yattu-- "śrutātideśavākyasyagavayādāvatideśavākyārthapratyabhijñānamupamānam, tacca vyutpattiphalakam" iti, tadapyanupapananam, prāgeva vyutpattisiddheḥ /
yattu--- "sādṛśyasya nimittattvānnimittasyāpratītitaḥ /
samayo durgrahaḥ pūrvaṃ śabdenānumayāpi vā" //
iti, tatra nimittasyāpratītitaḥ, iti tvasiddham, gavayatvādereva jātiviśeṣasya gosādṛśyākāropalakṣitasya prathamameva vākyārthatayā pratītiḥ; gosādṛśyākāropalakṣitasya prathamameva vākyārthatayā pratītiḥ; gosādṛśyopalakṣitaḥ kaścid vyaktiviśeṣo gavaya iti hi pratītiḥ /
paścāt pratyakṣitagavayasya tadvaiśadyamātrameva; uktaṃ ca śrīviṣṇucitteḥ--- "gosadṛśo gavayaḥ iti gosādṛśyaikādhikaraṇaṃ sāmānyaṃ vācyamiti vyutpannam, prathamaṃ vākyārthatayā pratīteḥ /
gosādṛśyopalakṣitasyānirṇaye paścādapyanirṇayaḥ /
anyathānirṇaye tathā paścādapi /
tato vākyaśravaṇavelāyāmeva nirṇitam" iti /
evaṃ cānabhyupagame kathaminrdādiśabdavyutpattiḥ ?; na hyatra nimittabhūtasaṃsthānaviśeṣādidṛṣṭiḥ /
na ca nityaṃ tatrāvyutpattiḥ, tadarthaviśiṣṭavākyārthabodhāpātāt /
evaṃ nityātīndriyaviṣayasaṃskārādiśabdānāmapi nityamavyutpattireva syāt /
tatra cet kathañcinnirvāhaḥ, tathātrāpi /
tat siddhaṃ nopamānamatiriktam, iti /
arthāpattistvanumānameva; tathāhi---anupapadyamānadarśanādupapādakakalpanaṃ nāma vyāpyādvyāpakajñānam, avyāpyasya tena vinānupapadyamānatvābhāvāt, avyāpakasya ca tadupapādakatvāyogāt, iti /
pramāṇadvayavirodhe sati viṣayavyavasthāpanamarthāpattiḥ, ityapi na vācyam, pramāṇayoḥ satorvirodhābhāvāt, viruddhayorapi prāmāṇyāyogāt /
nanu devadattasya jīvane kutaścit pramāṇāt pramite, jīvatā kvacit sthātavyam, ityaviśeṣeṇa deśasāmānyasambandhāvagatau gṛhamapyāskandantyāṃ satyāṃ pratyakṣe ca gṛhe tadabhāvaṃ pratipādayati spaṣṭo virodhaḥ, atastacchānyai bahirbhāvakalpanamarthāpattiḥ, iti; maivam, kvaciditi viditasya jīvanasya niyamābhāvāt, bahirvidyamānatāsaṃdehe niścayarūpeṇa gṛhābhāvapratyakṣeṇa pratispardhitumasāmarthyāt /
na ca viruddhaviṣayayorvāstavaṃ kutrāpi samabalatvaṃ samasti;ubhayāprāmāṇye tu kathañcit syāt /
ābhimānikabalasāmyepi tathaiva /
yadā vaiṣamyagrahaḥ, tadā tata eva balābalasiddhau kimarthāpattyā sādhyam ? /
ataḥ kevalaniravakāśavirodhiviśeṣasannidhau sati sāvakāśaṃ sāmānyaṃ saṃkocayitavyamiti vyavasthā syāt /
sāpi ca tathaiva vyāpteḥ, ityanumānaphalameva; anyathā virodhiviṣayatyāga ivāvirodhiviśeṣaparyavasānādāvapi mānāntarakḷptiḥ kiṃ na syāt ? /
evamanabhyupagame ca dhūmānumānādāvapyarthāpattitvaprasaṅgaḥ /
agniṃ vinānupapadyamānatvasvaya liṅgapratyakṣarūpapramāṇadvayavirodhasya ca vaktuṃ śakyatvāt /
dhūmo hi kāraṇabhūtaṃ vahnimākṣipati, pratikṣipati tu pratyakṣam, iti virodhe parvatārvāgbhāge vahniriti vyavasthākalpanasyārthāpattitvaṃ syāt /
vyāptinirūpaṇamantareṇa gamakatā gamakasyaiva dharmāntarayogitayā gamyate ityādibhedāstvāśāmātrakalpitāḥ, iti /
uktaṃ ca śrīviṣṇuttittaiḥ--- "arthāpattiranumānam" ityādi /
kecittu kevalavyatirekiṇi arthāpattisaṃjñāṃ niveśayanti /
tasya prāgeva nirāsānna pramāṇavargānupraveśaḥ /
anupraveśepi vā na pṛthaktvam //
nyā. pa. śa. 55 yattu āgamaprāmāṇye "anubhavaścendriyaliṅgaśabdasadṛśānyathānupapadyamānārthapūrvakaḥ" ityādiṣu upamānārthāpattiparigrahaḥ pratibhāti, tadapi pūrvapakṣapradeśagatatvānna siddhāntatvāya kalpate /
abhāvastvasmanmate bhāvāntarātmā /
sa cākṣādibhiryathāsaṃbhavaṃ sidhyati /
abhāvātmanā tu grahaṇepi pratiyogismaraṇādisahakārisahitāni tānyeva pramāṇanīti na tadatiriktakalpanāvakāśaḥ /
ata eva hi prāgartajābhāvādivijñānamapi nirvyūḍham; dṛṣṭa eva hi deśakālādisaṃsargādiviśeṣaḥ paścāt pratiyogismaraṇādimataḥ puruṣasya tadabhāvātmanā dhiyamadhirohati, smartavyasya smaraṇābhāvādvā; tatra tadabhāvānumānam /
evamatiriktābhāvapakṣepi nirmūlā pramāṇāntarakḷptiḥ; saghaṭaṃ bhūtalamitivat aghaṭaṃ bhūtalamityapi hyaparokṣā pratītiḥ; na cādhikaraṇagrahaṇopakṣīṇamindriyam, guṇādiṣvapi prasaṅgāt; atirekavadanatirekepyajñātakaraṇatvādīnyanumānāni ca sulabhānīti /
saṃbhavopyanumānameva, sahasre śataṃ saṃbhavati ityādeḥ pūrvānubhūsahasragatavyāptibodhanatvāt, saṃbhavati kṣatriye śairyamityādeḥ saṃdehātmakatvenāpramāṇatvāt /
avirodhaniścayarūpatvepi tadavirodhaniścāyakapramāṇāntare viśramaḥ /
aitihyaṃ tu pramāṇamūlaṃ cedāgamaḥ; tadābhāsamūlaṃ cet tadābhāsaḥ /
evaṃ ceṣṭālipyakṣarādikamapyabhiprāyavarṇaviśeṣādyavinābhūtamanumānameva /
ceṣṭāyāṃ varadanārāyaṇabhaṭṭārakairevamuktam--- "śabdasya vyavahārasyānukāraśceṣṭayāpi hi /
kriyate śābdavijñānayogināṃ svārthabodhikā //
anādivyavahāreṣu ceṣṭā vijñātaśaktikāḥ /
bodhikāḥ syuryathādhyakṣamiti ced bhavato matam //
ceṣṭā giro vā svīkāryāḥ parapratyāyanāya hi /

lipyakṣareṣu tu ayaṃ gakāraḥ ayaṃ ghakāraḥ iti varṇātmanā jñānamapramāṇameva /
etena cihnenedamakṣaraṃ jānīhītyabhiprāyeṇalipyakṣarasaṃbandhagrāhakāṇāṃ pravṛttiḥ /
tataśca vyāptisiddhiḥ /
eṣā lipiretadvarṇaviśeṣābhiprāyapūrvikā, bhramādirahitavarṇābhiprāyavatpuruṣalikhitaitallipitvāt, saṃpratipannavyutpattikālalipivat, ityādirūpaḥ prayogo draṣṭavyaḥ /
yattu pratibhāyāmuktaṃ tattvaratnākare--- "nanu ca pratibhā kācid yathārthā mānamiṣyatām /
bāhyārthanairapekṣyeṇa bāhyajñānakṣamāstu sā //
viśiṣṭakālapuruṣādyapekṣotkarṣasaṃbhavā /
satyaṃ, kālādibhedastu durvivecosmadādibhiḥ //
sannapyasau vyavahṛtau nopayogītyupekṣyate /
pratibhāyāḥ phalaṃ dṛṣṭaṃ yadā prāmāṇyaniścayaḥ //
tadanyataḥ kṛtārthatvāt prekṣyate na parīkṣakaiḥ /
puṇyeṣu puruṣeṣveṣā bhūyiṣṭhaṃ satyadarśinī //
tasmāt patañjaliḥ prāha pratibhā ceti tāṃ pramām" //
iti, tadapi prāguktayogipratyakṣaviśeṣaviṣayameva /
nanvevaṃ, tadapi pramāṇatritvaṃ catuṣṭvaṃ vānupapannam, pratyakṣaparokṣarūpeṇa dvitvasyaiva yuktatvāt, iti cenna, atiprasaṅgāt /
tathāhi--- bahuṣvekaikamuddhṛtya tadanyeṣvaikarāśyataḥ /
dvaidhakḷptau ghadādāvapyevameva prasajyate //
anumānanumānatvaśabdāśabdavibhāgataḥ /
pramāṇadvitvamevaṃ te vada kiṃ vāna rocate //
pratyakṣasya tadanyābhyāṃ vaijātyagrahaṇādyadi /
tayorapi svetarābhyāṃ vaijātyaṃ sphuṭameva naḥ //
atokṣaliṅgaśabdākhyāsādhāraṇanidānataḥ /
upalakṣyaṃ pramātritvaṃ catuṣṭvaṃ vāpi saṃsmṛteḥ //
spaṣṭamaspaṣṭamiti ca jainā yad dvaidhamūcire /
tatpratyakṣaparokṣatvavibhāgānna viśiṣyate //
ato na tāvati dvaidhe sādhite vivadāmahe /
parokṣasyaikamānatvaṃ durvacaṃ bhedasādhanāt //
nanvadhyakṣepi bhedosti bāhyāntaravibhāgataḥ /
divyādivyatayā cakṣuḥśrotrādibhidayāpi ca //
tadvat parokṣasyaikasya pramāṇasya vibhāgataḥ /
anumānāgamabhidā kathaṃ nābhyupagamyate //
dattottaramidaṃ kiñcid dṛṣṭametacchrutaṃ tvidam /
etattvanumitaṃ ceti lokoktiriha sākṣiṇī //
yataḥ kutaścid vaidharmyaṃ sādharmyamapi kenacit /
sarvatra sulabhaṃ kāmamihāpi parigṛhyate //
ataḥ smṛtyanubhūtyākhyāvibhāgādapi nocitam /
pramāṇadvitvamityevaṃ prāguktaiva supaddhatiḥ //
trividhonubhavaścaiva tanmūlā ca tathā smṛtiḥ /
iti ṣoḍhā vibhāge tu na vimanyāmahe vayam //
anubhūtivibhāgena tanmūlāyāḥ smṛterapi /
vibhāgasya gatārthatvādaikarāśyamudāhṛtam //
ato hi tasyāstanmūleṣvantarbhāvavivakṣayā /
pramāṇavargaṃ tritvena prāñcaḥ kecidviviñcate //
evamanyadapi cintyam, iti //
nanu anenana kiṃ pramāṇacintākleśena ? avimṛśyāpi pramāṇavargamupalambhānvayavyatirekādivaśāt paśvādīnāmiva manuṣyādīnāmapi laukikeṣvartheṣu pravṛttinivṛttitatprayojanādikaṃ nirupadravaṃ sidhyati /
alaukikeṣvapi tattadvidhāyakaistadanugrāhakaiśca kalpasūtrādibhiścaritārthadhiyāṃ kimanena piṣṭapeṣaṇādikalpena vṛthā vimarśeneti cet, maivam; avakāśoparodhāya tattvopaplavamicchatām /
aviparyāsasiddhyai ca viśodhyā mānayaddhatiḥ //
pratisaṃdhāya ca phanalaṃ prārambhāhnikadarśitam /
sādhyaprameyasaṃśuddhyai sāṅge māne pariśramaḥ //
pratyakṣitasamastārthairyogīndrainarapi laṅghyate /
pramāṇaplavamālambya tattvaviplavasāgaraḥ //
tasmāduktarītyā śuddhiḥ kartavyeti /
śuddhānyāyaniṣevitā śrutiśiraḥśuddhāntasiddhāntinī bhadrāṇāṃ pratipādanāya bhajatu pratyakṣatāmakṣatām /
patyau nityarase samaṃ karuṇayā pātivratīṃ bibhratī sarvagranthivimocanī bhagavatī sā me samīcī kṛtiḥ //
iti śrīkavitārkikasiṃhasya sarvatantrasvatantrasya śrīmadveṅkaṭanāthasya vedāntācāryasya kṛtiṣu nyāyapariśuddhau smṛtyadhyāye //

samāptaśca caturthodhyāyaḥ //
