manvādīnāntu sarvajñatvena pratyakṣapāṭhenāvadhāraṇasaṃbhavāt pratyakṣapaṭhitaiva śrutirmūṃlamityabhipretyāha

dṛśyante ca spaṣṭameva mantrārthavādāḥ pratyakṣapaṭhitā eva tattatsmṛtimūlam /
yathā "yāṃ janā iti mantro 'ṣṭakāsmṛteḥ /

na hyatra pratyakṣaśrutyā smṛtermūlākāṅkṣā nivarttate, yena kalpanāmūlocchedādviruddhapratyakṣaśrutyā liṅgasyeva smṛterbādhaḥ syāt /
na vā śaityauṣṇyayorivātra viṣayayoratyantavirodhaḥ, yena auṣṇyapratyakṣeṇeva śaityānumānasya prakṛte prameyāpahāralakṣaṇo bādhaḥ syāt /

ādipadena yūpahastinodānamācarantīti smṛtyantaragrahaṇam /

viruddhaśrutidarśanarūpasya bādhakasya vrīhiyavādiṣu śrutiṣu bahuśo darśanena vyabhicārāt, viprakīrṇaśākhāntaragataśrutīnāmasmadādibhiḥ anupalambhe 'pi manvādīnāṃ mahattaratvenānupalambharūpabādhakasyāpi abhāvācca /
ataḥ parapratyakṣasyāpyātmapratyakṣasamatvāt taddṛṣṭaśrutīnāṃ mūlatvasaṃbhavānna bhāṣyakāroktaṃ sarvathāprāmāṇyaṃ sidhyati //

nyāyasudhāyāṃ ---- udāharaṇabhāṣyamapi adṛṣṭamūlāvasthasmṛtiviṣayatayā netavyam iti //
(yāvacchrutiniścayamananuṣṭhānalakṣaṇamaprāmāṇyamityasya sūtrārūḍhatvopapādanam) nanu ---- adṛṣṭamūlasmṛtīnāṃ vipralambhamūlakatvābhāvenātyantabādhyatvāsaṃbhavāt yathāśrutamūlāniścayena atyantetarasmṛtitulyatvāyoge 'pi kathañcitprāmāṇyāṅgīkāre "virodhetvanapekṣa"mityaprāmāṇyapratipādakasūtrav irodha ityata āha ---ataśceti //
mūlabhūtaśruteḥ parapratyakṣatve 'pi svapratyakṣatvābhāvāt svapratyakṣasya tu mūlānusandhānasāpekṣatvādyato durbalā, atastayoḥ virodhe yadanapekṣaṃ śrautaṃ vijñānaṃ tadeva pramāṇamādaraṇīyaṃ syāt /

smṛtīnāmapi ityapinā traivarṇikatayā saṃbhāvitavedasaṃyogamanvādipraṇītasmṛtīnāṃ vedamūlakatayā prāmāṇyaṃ, evamāsāmapīti dṛṣṭāntoktiḥ sūcitā //
tena tadvadeva mūlānumānasyānupalabdhivirodhaḥ /
pratyakṣaśrutimūlatvapakṣeṇa tāvatparihṛto jñāpitaḥ /
adhunā malinaśākhāmūlatvapakṣe tu virodhaśaṅkaiva nāstītyabhipretya tatpakṣaṃ darśayati

evañca yāvat kiñcit kiyantamapi kālaṃ kaiścidādriyamāṇaṃ prasiddhaṃ gataṃ tatpratyakṣaśākhāvisaṃvāde 'pyutsannaśākhāmūlam /
tenāsmin pakṣe yasmai yadrocate sa tat pramāṇīkuryāditi doṣo nāpadyata iti bhāvaḥ

athavā --- śākyasya kṣatriyatvaprasiddhestasyaca pravaktṛtvapratigrahītṛtvaniṣedhāt śākyasya tadanuṣṭhātṛtvāt svadharmavirodhe taduktamanapekṣyamityādyasūtrārthaḥ //
(śākyamanusmṛtyoḥ sāmyaśaṅkānirākaraṇena vaiṣamyanirūpaṇam) nacaivaṃ manorapi kṣatriyatvena pravaktṛtvānupapattiḥ; "yadvai kiñcamanuravadattadbheṣajam" itiśrutyā tasya tadabhyanujñānāt /
śākyādibhiśca svapratipādyārtheṣu bahūnāmasaddhetūnāmevopādānān kasyāpi saddhetoradarśanāccānapekṣyam /
manvādīnāntu hetūpanyāsābhāvāt kvacitsattve 'pi vā "veda eva dvijātīnāṃ niḥśreyasakaraḥ para"; ityādinā prādhānyena vedamūlatvasyaiva dharme 'bhidhānāt hetvadhikaraṇanyāyenārthavādamātratvānna doṣaḥ /
ata eva śākyādīnāṃ hetukatvāt "haitukānbakavṛttīṃśca vāṅmātreṇāpi nārcaye"dityādināsaṃbhāṣyatvamuktamiti dvitīyasūtrārthaḥ /
vedamūlakatvakalpanānupapatteriti padaṃ hetudarśanasyāpyupalakṣaṇaṃ draṣṭavyam //
(pāñcarātrādyaprāmāṇyavarṇanam) yastu sāṃkhyayogapāñcarātrādiṣu śiṣṭatraivarṇikaparigrahaḥ, sa na tanmūlaḥ, kintu nṛsiṃharāmatāpanīyopaniṣacchrutyagastyādisaṃhitāmūla eva /
ata eva śiṣṭatraivarṇikāparigṛhītavāmāgamapratipādakānāṃ teṣāṃ aprāmāṇyam /
yattu tatretarāgamasaṃvādi tacchākyānāmivāhiṃsādi vāmāgamaparigrahabhaktyudbhavābhiprāyameveti tadanuṣṭhānamapi na tanmūlam /
śiṣṭānāmapi tu pūrveṣāṃ tadasadāgamamūlameveti na doṣa iti sarvathāprāmāṇyamiti bahavaḥ

soṃ'śaḥ pramāṇamityuktaṃ keṣāñcidadhikāriṇāmi"ti muktikhaṇḍagatacaturthādhyāyavacanenādhikāriviśeṣaparatayā upasaṃhṛtamiti darśitaṃ mādhavena /
yathācaivaṃ satyaviruddhānāṃ śākyādipramāṇānāṃ prāmāṇyaṃ tadagre nirasiṣyate //
(smṛtyadhikaraṇagatasya prāmāṇyavarṇanasyādhikāriviśeṣaparatayā yojanam) yattu smṛtyadhikaraṇe sāṃkhyādīnāṃ bāhyagranthānāṃ copayogapratipādanaṃ, tat dharmamokṣasādhanajñānopayogivairāgyādipratipādakayuktikathanaparatayā na dharmādyupadeśaparatayeti na virodhaḥ /
evaṃsati yadyapi tāpanīyādipratyakṣaśrutimūlasya vāmāgamasya pratyakṣaśrutiviruddhasya vā prāmāṇyaṃ durnivāram; tathāpi
"pāñcarātraṃ bhāgavataṃ tantraṃ vaikhānasābhidham /
vedabhraṣṭāntsamuddiśya kamalāpatiruktavān" /
tathā
"atyantaskhalitānāṃ hi dvijānāṃ vedamārgataḥ /
pāñcarātrādayo mārgāḥ kālenaivopakārakāḥ" /

"śāpādvā gautamādīnāṃ pāpādvā mahato narāḥ /
ye gatā vedabāhyatvaṃ ye ca saṃkīrṇayonijāḥ /

smārtānāmācamanādīnāṃ śrautaiḥ kramakālaparimāṇādibhirvirodhe śrautatvātkramādīnāmeva prābalyāt tadviṣayasmṛtīnāmaprāmāṇyam /
na hi "kṣute ācāmedi"ti vihitasya smārtasyācamanasya vedavedikaraṇamadhye 'nuṣṭhāne "vedaṅkṛtvā vediṃ karotī"ti śrutibodhitaḥ kramo 'nuṣṭhātuṃ śakyate /

"ācāntena yajñopavītinā kartavyaṃ" "dakṣiṇācāreṇa kartavyaṃ" ityādismṛtivihitānāmityarthaḥ /
antimasmṛtau dakṣiṇena hastena ācaraṇena kartavyamityarthāt "lohitoṣṇīṣā" ityatreva aprāptadakṣiṇahastavidhānaṃ jñeyam //
(śākhāntarādhikaraṇagatārthatāśaṅkānirāsaḥ smṛtipadenetinirūpaṇam) śākhāntarādhikaraṇasamāptau "api vā kramasaṃyogāt vidhipṛthaktvamekasyāṃ vyavatiṣṭhete"ti sūtreṇa kramakālaparimāṇavirodhāt śākhāntarīyapadārthānupasaṃhāramāśaṅkya "virodhināṃ tvasaṃyogādaikakarmye tatsaṃyogādvidhīnāṃ sarvakarmapratyayaḥ syāt" iti sūtreṇa padārthānāṃ kramādibādhakatvaṃ vakṣyete iti na tena gatārthatā, tatrobhayoḥ śrautatvena anyatarasamavāyābhāvāt yuktaṃ padārthānāṃ bādhakatvam, iha tu prāmāṇyadaurbalyādastu bādhyatvamiti śaṅkotthānasūcanena parihartuṃ ---- smṛtīnāmityuktam /

tatratyasyaiva prameyabalasya pramāṇabalābalabādhāyopanyāsāt nānenāpi tasya gatārthatvamiti bhāvaḥ

yadyapi bhojanādinimittakasyācamanasya puruṣārthatvāt sarvaprayogādau kriyamāṇasyāpi tasya madhye prasakteravirodhaḥ; tathāpi dvayoḥ padārthayoḥ madhye kṣutādinimittācamanasya kratvarthasya prasakterbhavatyeva saḥ /
ataeva vitataikapadārthakaraṇamadhyaprasaktasya kṣutādinimittasya prāptau yadyapi nācamanavidhānaṃ, kintu "kṣute niṣṭhīvane caiva paridhāne 'śrupātane /
na tu karmastha ācāmeddakṣiṇaṃ śravaṇaṃ spṛśet" itismṛtivihitadakṣiṇakarṇasparśe 'styeva virodha iti tasyāpayudāharaṇatvam /
evaṃ yajñopavītasyāpi "sadopavītinā bhāvyam" iti smṛtau sadāśabdasaṃyogāt puruṣārthatvenaiva vidhāne 'pi "anupavītaśca yatkaroti na tatkṛtam" ityuttarārdhena kartavyakarmamātrāṅgatvena vidhānātsvarūpeṇa tasya virodhābhāve 'pi strastasya punassamīkaraṇe naṣṭasya punardhāraṇe vāstyeva saḥ /
evaṃ śikhābandhane 'pi ityudāharaṇatvam /
evaṃ dakṣiṇavākye 'pi bhojanādau puruṣārthatvena vihitasya dakṣihastācaraṇasya virodhābhāve 'pi kratvarthasya tasyāstyeva virodhaḥ /
hastadvayenānuṣṭhāne 'vilambāparaparyāyaprayogaprāśubhāvasyaikena hastenānuṣṭhāne bādhāpatteḥ /
ato yuktaṃ sarveṣāṃ udāharaṇatvaṃ virodhaprasaktyeti bhāvaḥ //

tataśca prathamāvadhṛtasya parimāṇasya prathamāparikalpitapaścādāgatasmārtapadārthānuṣṭhānena bhraṃśāt punaḥtatkṛtākṛtānirūpaṇādanivṛttavaiguṇyāśaṅkasya samyakkṛtatvādinimittasaṃskārapāṭavābhāvāt apūrvadaurbalyena nyūnaphalalābhaprasaṃga ityarthaḥ /

kratvapūrvasyānirjñātāṅgaparimāṇatayā śrautāṅgamātreṇa nairākāṅkṣyābhāvādyathā virodhābhāve balābalamanādṛtya śrutyādisamākhyāparyantaissahānārabhyavādena prāpitānyaṅgāni samuccitya gṛhyante, evaṃ smṛtyācāraprāptānyapi; sarveṣāṃkaraṇopakārasādhanānāṃ anvayottaramanuṣṭhānāya prayogavidheranuṣṭhānātmanaḥ pravṛtteḥ /
tena ca bodhitaprayogavelāyāmeva padārthānāmapekṣitaṃ kramakālādi prayogāvacchedakatayā anvīyamānaṃ yāvatpramāṇaprāpitapadārthaprayogavirodhenaivāvacchedakatayā kalpyate; kālādīnāṃ prayogavidhyanvayitvasyaikādaśe vakṣyamāṇatvenāṅgapradhānasādhāraṇyāt /
naca smārtānāṃ vaidikaissaha krame niyāmakābhāvaḥ; bhedanahomavannimittasannipātādevopasthityā sthānādeva tanniyamopapatteḥ /

vedāḥ sthānāni vidyānāṃ dharmasya ca caturdaśa" /
ityādivacanairniyatapramāṇapratipādyānāmeva dharmatvapramiteranyataḥ pramitasya phalasādhanatvābhāvāt teṣāmaprāmāṇyamiti // 3 //

<B2> (smārtānāṃ keṣāñcana padārthānāmante 'nuṣṭhānam) atraivamavadheyam ---- yatra sthalaviśeṣapuraskāreṇaiva smārtapadārthavidhiḥ tatra sthalāmnānādeva tasya kramaḥ, parantu śrutivihitakramavirodhe tasya bādhenānte padārthānuṣṭhānam /
yatratu smṛtau padārthamātrasyaiva kratvaṅgatayā vidhānaṃ na sthalaviśeṣasya, tatrāgantūnāmante niveśātsyādevānte 'nuṣṭhānam iti --- dhyeyam /
ihatu "ācāntena kartavyami"ti smṛtisahakṛtasthānādeva teṣāṃ krama iti na bādhakam /
parimāṇasya tu sākṣāt śāstreṇa vidhyabhāvāt pūrvoktarītyā kathañcittadākṣepe 'pi kramakālavat prayogavelāyāmevākāṅkṣaṇāt prayujyamānapadārthāṅgatayaiva tatpravṛttyuttarakālamākasmikabhedanahomaprāyaścittādi- samavāyāvadhāraṇeneva smārtācamanādipadārthāvadhāraṇenāpi kalpanīyasya sarvapadārthāvacchedakatayaiva prayogavacanopasaṃgrahānna virodha ityarthaḥ //
(ācamanakramayorvirodhāṅgīkāreṇāpi ācamanarūpaprabalapadārthāśritatvāt ācamanasmṛtiprāmāṇyanirūpaṇam) adhunā tuṣyatu durjana iti nyāyena virodhamaṅgīkṛtyāpi prāmāṇyaṃ sādhayati --- virodhe 'picet //

pramāṇayoraśvamahiṣavatsvarūpeṇa virodhābhāvena viruddhaprameyapramāpakatvenaiva tasya pratīteḥ prathamaṃ pramāṇasvarūpālocane 'pi prameyasvarūpālocanaṃ vinā tadapratīteḥ tatsvarūpālocanottaraṃ virodhapratisandhāne tadgatena dharmidharmarūpaprameyabalābalenāsaṃjātavirodhinā'camanāderbalīyastvaniścaye sati na kramādyanugrahaḥ saṃbhavati /
yadyapi vā prameyavirodhānusandhānottarakṣaṇe tadgatabalābalopasthitikāle viruddhaprameyapratipādakatvena pramāṇayorapi virodhopasthitiḥ syāt; tathāpi tatra prameyabalābalopasthityuttarakṣaṇe 'saṃjātavirodhitvānnirṇaye sati tannirṇayavelāyāṃ na pramāṇagatabalābalopasthitiriti itarasya nirṇayapadavīmanāgatasya śrutiliṅgādivadevottarabhāvino daurbalyam //
naca śruteratyantabādhaḥ; ācamananimittopanipātābhāve sārthakyāt /
ācamanādeḥ śrutyarthatvenottarapadārthāṅgatvenāṅgībhūtavedikaraṇavyavadhāyakatvāyogācca tadanāpatteriti bhāvaḥ /

(vārtikakṛtā bhāṣyakārīyādhikaraṇāntaraparatvasyakhaṇḍanaṃ vārtikamatātiriktanyāyasudhākāramatasūcanañca) atra vārtikakṛtā pūrvoktarītyā virodhasya sphuṭatvāt pūrvapakṣāyogāt ata eva abhyupetya virodhaṃ pramāṇabalapūrvapakṣasyāpyayogāt yajñopavītasya "upavyayate devalakṣmameva tatkurute" iti darśapūrṇamāsaprakaraṇagatavākyena prakṛtāvatideśato vikṛtāvapi śrutyaiva vidhānādasya vāsovinyāsaparatve 'pi "yajñopavītyevādhīyīta" iti kāṭhakavākyena brahmasūtrasyāpi śrutyaiva vidhānāt anyābhiśca śrutibhiḥ ācamanadakṣiṇahastādīnāmapi pratyakṣata eva vidhānāt smārtatvānupapatterudāharaṇatvāyogācca bhāṣyakārīyādhikaraṇāntararacanāṃ pradūṣya adhikaraṇāntaratvavyākhyānasyāyogāt virodhādhikaraṇasādhitaśākyādigranthāprāmāṇyākṣepasamādhānaparatayā taccheṣatvenādyaṃ sūtradvayam tṛtīyantu smṛtyadhikaraṇasādhitācāraprāmāṇyākṣepasamādhānaparatayā taccheṣatayaiva vyākhyeyam ityuktam, tadanusaṃdhāya varṇakāntaramāha --- yadveti //
yathācātra yajñopavītādīnāṃ śrautatvaṃ vārtikakāroktaṃ abhyuccayayuktimātraṃ tathā nyāyasudhāyāṃ kaustubhe ca draṣṭavyam /
vistarabhayāttu neha prapañcyate //

vihārāsanavairāgyadhyānasatyadamadānadayāhiṃsādīnāṃ ādipadena saṃgrahaḥ //
(niṣedhādivākyānāmapi dharmaparyavasānopapādanam) vedo 'khila iti //
yadyapi akhilasya vedasya na dharmamūlatvasaṃbhavaḥ;
śyenādivākyānāṃ niṣedhavākyānāṃ ca tanmūlatvāyogāt, tathāpi dharmamabodhayatāmapi tadvākyānāṃ pārāyaṇabrahmayajñādinirvartanadvārā dharmaṃ prati kārakatvāt prāyaścittavidhyapekṣitanimittasamarpakatveana vidvadvākyavatparaṃparayā dharmapramopayogasaṃbhavācca na doṣaḥ /

taduktaṃ vārtike --- tathāca prāyaścittādidānakāle yo vākyamātmīyaṃ anyakavikṛtaṃ vā ślokaṃ sūtraṃ voccārya manvādisaṃvādiprāyaścittaṃ "dadyānna tat kaścidapi dharmārthaṃ pratipadyate /
vedenaivābhyanujñātā yeṣāmeva pravaktṛtā /
nityānāmabhidheyānāṃ manvantarayugādiṣu /
teṣāṃ viparivarteṣu kurvatāṃ dharmasaṃhitāḥ /
vacanāni pramāṇāni nānyeṣāmiti niścayaḥ" /

ata eva śrutismṛtiviruddhācaraṇeṣu satyapi dharmatvasmaraṇe mātulakanyāpariṇayādau śrutivirodhādeva virodhādhikaraṇanyāyena śrutimūlatvākalpanam /

ataśca śrutismṛtyaviruddhānāṃ lobhādidṛṣṭamūlatayāsaṃbhāvitānāṃ sadācārāṇāṃ vedamūlatvam /
ata eva smṛtau "śrutismṛtyaviruddho yassa sadācāra ucyate" ityuktam ityarthaḥ //
(dharmavyatikramādinā'cārāprāmāṇyaśaṅkā) atraca sakalasadācāramūlabhūtāyā ekasyā eva śrutermūlatvakalpanaṃ athavā bhinnānāmityatra nirṇayaḥ kaustubhe draṣṭavyaḥ /
evañca aśabdarūpāṇāṃ ācārāṇāṃ ātmatuṣṭeśca mūlabhūtaśabdānumāpakatvena prāmāṇyaprayojakatve smṛtyadhikaraṇena siddhe 'pi keṣāñcit śiṣṭairindravasiṣṭhādibhirdharmavyatikramādanuṣṭhīyamānānāṃ ahalyāgamanarūpabrahmahatyopakramarūpasāhasādīnāmapi prāmāṇyāpattiḥ /
tathātmatuṣṭerapi
"kasyacijjāyate tuṣṭiraśubhe 'pīha karmaṇi /
śākyasya vā kuhetūktirvedabrāhmaṇadūṣaṇe /
paśuhiṃsādisaṃbaddhayajñe tuṣyanti hi dvijāḥ /
tebhya e
va tu yajñebhyaḥ śākyāḥ krudhyanti pīḍitāḥ /
śūdrānnabhojanenāpi tuṣyantyanye dvijātayaḥ /
svamātulasutāṃ prāpya dākṣiṇātyaśca tuṣyati /
anyetu savyalīkena cetasā tanna kurvate /

" ityādivārtikoktarītyānavasthitatvāt vedamūlakatvāsaṃbhavāt prāmāṇyānāpattirityāśaṅkāṃ nirākartumāha --- vyatikrameti //
(dharmabuddhyānuṣṭhānābhāvena vyatikramādyaprāmāṇye 'pi itareṣāṃ sadācārāṇāṃ prāmāṇyameveti nirūpaṇam) indravasiṣṭhādīnāṃ pūrvoktācaraṇasya "śrutisāmānyamātrādvā na doṣo 'tra bhaviṣyati /
manuṣyapratiṣedhādvā tejobalavaśena ca /
yathāvā nāviruddhatvaṃ tathā tadgamayiṣyate" /
iti vārtikoktaprakāreṇa kaustubhādyupapāditena virodhaparihārasaṃbhavāt naiva viruddhatvam /
dharmabuddhyā anuṣṭhīyamānatvābhāvācca na sadācāratvamapi /
atasteṣāṃ lobhakāmādirūpadṛṣṭamūlatvānnaiva prāmāṇyam /
evamātmatuṣṭerapi yatra tanmūlatvasaṃbhavaḥ, tadviṣaye aprāmāṇye 'pi śrutismṛtyaviruddhātmatuṣṭeḥ saṃbhavatyeva tat /
ataeva ātmatuṣṭerdharmajanakatvasandehe nirṇāyikāyāḥ
"yadeva kiñcanānūcānobhyūhatyārṣaṃ tadbhavatī"ti vedenaiva prāmāṇyābhyanujñānāt dharmatvajñāpakatvasya smṛtāvapyukteḥ dharme jñāte jñāpakatayāpi prāmāṇyamavyāhatamevetyarthaḥ /
etena --- nityānumeyatvasya pūrvameva nirākaraṇāt pratyakṣaśrutyanubhavasya svasmin pratyakṣabādhitatvāt śrutyanumāpakatvāsaṃbhavāt aprāmāṇyam iti --- nirastam; "yadeve"tiśrutereva pratyakṣapaṭhitāyā icchāviṣayasya dharmatvabodhikāyāḥ svasyānubhavasaṃbhavena tanmūlakatvopapatteḥ /
atra matāntaranirāsaḥ kaustubhe draṣṭavyaḥ

āryā hi śabdaikasamadhigamyadharmādharmayoraviplutilipsayā śabdārthatattvaṃ vivicya paripālayanti, na mlecchāḥ; dṛṣṭārthavyavahārasya yathākathañcidapi siddheḥ /
atastatprasiddhyā vṛkṣaviśeṣa eva śaktiḥ /
gajapratītistu lakṣaṇayā śaktibhramādvā /
yatra tu niyāmakābhāvastatrāgatyākṣādiśabdeṣu ubhayatrāpi śaktiḥ; āryāṇāmevobhayatra prayogāt /
tatrāpi kvacidvākyaśeṣasya niyāmakatā --- yathā "yatrānyā oṣadhayo mlāyante athaite modamānā ivottiṣṭhantī"tyanena yavaśabdasya dīrghaśūka eva śaktiḥ /

tatrāpi yavapadasya yavamayakarambhapātravidhiśeṣatayā "yatrānyā oṣadhayo mlāyante athaite modamānā ivottiṣṭhantī" tyāmnānāt dīrghaśūka eva śaktiḥ; phālgune 'nyauṣadhimlānatāyāmapi priyaṅgūṇāṃ modābhāvāt, varṣāsu teṣāṃ modasattve 'pi anyauṣadhīnāṃ mlānābhāvāt dīrghaśūkānāṃ phālgune 'nyauṣadhimlānatāyāmeva modasaṃbhavena tadupapatteḥ /
atra ca vākyaśeṣasya sattvepyanyatrāśvavālādau śaktigrāhakatve yavādiśabdasthale tanniścāyakatvamātrameva lāghavāt kalpyate /

ata eva phālgunādau godhūmādermodamānatve 'pi aprayogādeva vācyatvāprasaktiḥ /
evaṃ "varāhaṃ gāvo 'nudhāvanti" "daeapsujo vetasaḥ" ityarthavādābhyāṃ varāhavetasaśabdayorapi sūkaravañjulayoreva śaktiḥ /
gavāmadyatvabuddhyā khecaravāyasānudhāvanāsaṃbhavena jambūvṛkṣasya sthalādhikaraṇasya apsujanyatvasyāsaṃbhavena tadanupapatteḥ /
ataśca vākyaśeṣānugṛhītāryaprasiddhireva balīyasīti siddhāntitam //
(vārtikakārasaṃmatādhikaraṇaśarīraracanāpūrvakaṃ mūlakṛtā vārtikārīyādhikaraṇaśarīraparigrahe nimittanirūpaṇam)
vārtikakṛtā tu yavavarāhavetasaśabdānāṃ priyaṅguvāyasajambūrūpeṣvartheṣu kasminnapi deśe śiṣṭairaprayogāt vipratipattyabhāvena "sārasvataṃ meṣa" mityatra "vāgvai sarasvatī"ti vākyaśeṣeṇa sarasvatīśabdaprakṛtinirṇayasyevehāpi "sandigdheṣu vākyaśeṣādi" tyanenagatārthatvādvākyaśeṣābhāvenābhiyuktaprasiddhestulyabalatvāpatteśca nodāharaṇatvasaṃbhavaḥ /
navaitatsadṛśaṃ vākyaśeṣanirṇeyābhidheyaṃ trivṛdādiśabdarūpaṃ saṃbhavatyudāharaṇam; tatra traiguṇya eva lokaprayogenārthavipratipattyabhāvāt /
ato bhāṣyakārīyāmadhikaraṇaracanāmayuktāṃ matvā pikanemādhikaraṇe vakṣyamāṇamlecchaprayogācāraprāmāṇyālocanena prāsaṅgikīṃ saṃgatiṃ cābhisaṃdhāyāryamlecchavipratipattiviṣayaśabdaprayogarūpācārodāharaṇenāpi āryaprasiddherbalīyastvaṃ siddhāntitam /
tadvadeva bhāṣyakāra kṛtaṃ vicāraṃ svayamapyupekṣya yathāvārtikameva vicāraṃ darśayati

ayaṃ bhāvaḥ--- manvādīnāṃ "sākṣātkṛtadharmāṇa ṛṣaya" iti smṛteḥ sakalatattvajñānasaṃpannatvāt tatpraṇītasmṛteḥ vedavirodhe 'pi śrutimūlatvāvirodhe sutarāmācāravirodhe tanmūlatvavirodhāsaṃbhavāt na tāvanmūlaśrutikalpanapratibandhasaṃbhavaḥ, ācārasya tu manvādigatasya asmadādibhiḥ anupalaṃbhādarvācīnānāṃ ca sakaladharmatattvajñānābhāvāt pramādādisaṃbhavena cāviśvasanīyatvāt tadācārasya śrutimūlatvakalpane śrutivirodhavat smṛtivirodhe 'pi bhavatyevānuṣṭhānalakṣaṇaphalāpahārarūpabādhasaṃbhavena pratibandhaḥ /
śiṣṭācāro hi pūrvapūrvācāryagatassannuttarottarān prati svakartavyatāṃ pramāpayan svānuṣṭhānaphalakatayā prāmāṇyaṃ labhate /
saṃbhavati ca tasyottarottarānuṣṭhānala
kṣaṇaphalāpahārādbādhaḥ //

naca idānīntanānāmanuṣṭhātṝṇāṃ itastato viprakīrṇaśākhāntaragataśrutidarśanaṃ saṃbhavati /
ator'vācīnācārān dṛṣṭvā na jhaṭityeva śrutiviṣayānubhavakalpanam bādhitatvāt iti manvādibhyaḥ manvādyupadeśenaivādyayāvadarvācīnaparyantametadācārānuṣṭhānakalpanamiti śrutyadhigamakalpanaṃ yāvadanuṣṭhānamiti manvāderanuṣṭhānadarśanena vā adyatadanuṣṭhānadarśanakalpanaṃ vā manvādibhistu paraṃ etadācāramūlaśrutirdṛṣṭeti kalpyate; teṣāṃ sakalavedārthatattvadarśanavattvāt, ato manvādibhirevaitadācāramūlaṃ śrutimupalakṣya smṛtvā tadānīntanebhya upadiśya tadānīntanaireva vā manvādyācāraṃ dṛṣṭvā anuṣṭhitaṃ ityevaṃ paramparayādyayāvadarvācīnācāraparyantaṃ ācārānuṣṭhānamityevaṃ pūrvapūrvācārakalpanayā smṛtiṃ prakalpya paścāt śrutikalpanamiti dvyantaritaprāmāṇyādviprakarṣaḥ /
manvādinibaddhasmṛtīnāṃ tu manvādiṣveva śrutyupalaṃbhapūrvakaṃ tadarthasmṛtikalpanena nibandhanopapatterarthakalpanadvārā jhaṭityeva śrutikalpanāt sannikarṣa iti liṅgavākyādivadevārthaviprakarṣādapyācārasya daurbalyam //

(paraprakaraṇapaṭhiteṣu vākyeṣvidānīntanānāṃ yatkiñcidācārādimūlatvādhyavasānābhāvanirūpaṇam) yadyapi katipayācāramūlabhūtaśrutīnāmarvācīnānāṃ darśanaṃ bhavati, yathā "nayanaṃ dakṣiṇaṃ dīkṣitaḥ pūrvamaṅkte savyaṃ hi manuṣyā āñjate" iti śrutermanuṣyakartṛkaprāksavyākṣyañjanācāramūlabhūtāyāḥ, evamanyā api śrutaya udāhartavyāḥ; tathāpi paraprakaraṇapaṭhitatvavidhyantaśeṣatvādinedānīntanaistāsāmācāramūlatvānadhyavasānādācāra- paraṃparayā manvādiniṣṭhādhyavasāyakalpanamāvaśyakameva //
kiñca ācāre kartavyasya svarūpamātraṃ kḷptaṃ, natu kartavyatā; sā tu dharmabuddhyādinā arthasukhādirūpahetvantarāsaṃbhavapariśeṣasahakṛtayā kalpyā, smṛtau tu liṅādiśabdenaiva sāvagamyate iti vaiṣamyāt prakṛte śrutivirodharūpabalavadbādhakabalādanupalabhyamānamapi kāmādihetvantaraṃ sphuṭatarameva kasyacinmūlānuṣṭhātuḥ puṃsa iti pariśeṣāsaṃbhavena śrutikalpanāyogāt tatra dharmabuddhirbhrama eva /
anyeṣāmapi tadanuyāyināmadharma eva dharmabuddhiriti niṣpramāṇakaṃ tanmūlaśrutikalpanam //
(vikalpāpattyāpi niṣiddhaviṣayakācārādeḥ śrutikalpakatvāyogaḥ) kiñca --- smṛtimūlaśrutyā niṣedharūpayā mātulakanyāpariṇayādeḥ pratyavāyajanakatvabodhanāt ācāramūlaśrutyā iṣṭasādhanatvabodhanasya vastuni vikalpāyogenaikasyaiva tadubhayavirodhaḥ /
ṣoḍaśigrahaṇaniṣedhena tu ṣoḍaśigrahaṇābhāve 'pītarāṅgaiḥ kratūpakārasiddherevākṣepāt yukto vikalpaḥ

yattu "yeṣāṃ paraṃparāprāptāḥ pūrvajairapyanuṣṭhitāḥ /

tatrāpi yājñikaprasidhyānavastrāvitāntarūṣmapakvaudanaviśeṣaparatvam /
tathā aśvavālaśabdeḥ loke 'vayavayogenāśvasya keśarūpor'thaḥ, vedetu "aśvavālaḥ prastaraḥ" ityatra vākyaśeṣe "yajño ha vai devebhyaḥ aśvobhūtvo 'pākrāmat so 'paḥ prāviśat sa vāladhau gṛhītaḥ sa bālānmuktvā viveśa ha te vālāḥ kāśatāṃ prāptā" iti śravaṇāt kāśarūporthaḥ, evaṃ vipratipattiviṣayamudāharati --- trivṛditi //
ādipadenaikṣavī vidhṛtītyatra lokāvagatayogabalenekṣvavayavapara ekṣavīśabdaḥ, vārtikalekhanonnītavākyaśeṣāttu vede kāśamūlaparaḥ /

ata eva --- bahiṣpavamāna eva tṛcatrayānukramaṇadbahiṣpavamānagatastotrīyāgatanavaka eva rūḍhiḥ---ityapyapāstam; tathātve trivṛdgahaṇavaiyarthyāpattestadavasthatvāt /
na hi tadā agniṣṭuti sarvastotreṣu navakaṃ vidhātuṃ śakyate; "trivṛtāyūpa"mityatreva lākṣaṇikatvāpatteḥ /
traiguṇyarūpaśakyārthasyaiva grahaṇāpattestatrātideśenaiva stotrīyānavakaprāpteśca vidhivaiyarthyācca tatra trivṛtpadavaiyarthyāpatteranivāraṇāt /
ataḥ stotrīyānavake iva traiguṇye 'pi śaktiḥ /
evaṃ mānavavākye 'pi stotrīyānavakavat lokaprasiddhatraiguṇyaparatvameva //
(trivṛcchabdasya stotrīyānavakavācitve ākṛtyadhikaraṇavirodhaparihārau) naca stotrīyānavakavācitve ākṛtyadhikaraṇavirodhaḥ; yatra viśeṣaṇamātre śaktau kalpitāyāṃ tadavinābhāvāt viśeṣyapratītiryujyate tasyākṛtyadhikaraṇanyāyaviṣayatve 'pi putrāvinābhāvābhāvena snuṣādiśabdānāṃ putrabhāryādiviśiṣṭavācitvasyevehāpi viśiṣṭavācakatvasya svīkāre tadvirodhābhāvāt //
(caruśabdārthanirṇayaḥ) caruśabdasyāpi vākyaśeṣabalāt samānaviṣayatvānurodhena odane rūḍhisvīkārāt, aikāntikasaṃbandhāllokaprasiddhasthālyāṃ lakṣaṇaiveti nānekārthatvam /
ataeveha śaktāvavadhāritāyāṃ yatra na vākyaśeṣaḥ--- "yathā sauryaṃ caru"mityādau tatrāpi lākṣaṇikārthagrahaṇe mānābhāvādodanasyaiva grahaṇam /
yadyapi yājñikaiḥ kapāle kaṭāhe vā śrapitasya carutvānabhyupagamāt sthālīsthaudana eva ca prayogāt sthālīsthaudanaparatve ākṛtyadhikaraṇanyāyena sthālīmātravācitvameva yuktam /
ataeva aikāntikasaṃbandhādodana eva lakṣaṇeti prāpnoti; tathāpi arthavādānurodhena gauṇārthasyaivagrahaṇe siddhe śyenopamānenopamitayāgaparatayā nirṇītaśyenaśabdena yāgasya gauṇyāpi vṛttyā grahaṇe siddhe tatprābalyāt "samānamitaracchayenene" tyādau tadgrahaṇasyeva sauryamityādāvapi tasyaiva yuktaṃ grahaṇam /

api tasya sthālīmantareṇānupapatterarthākṣepepi sthālīsthaudanavācitvānaṅgīkāreṇākṛtyadhikaraṇanyāyā- viṣayatayā sthālīvācyatāyāḥ aprasakteśca /
yadyapi caruśabde yājñikaprasiddhyā lokaprasiddherbādhādeva nirṇayassaṃbhavatīti na vākyaśeṣamātranirṇeyābhiprāyatvam; tathāpi kvācitkayājñikaprasiddhereva lākṣaṇikatvopapattyā bahutaratatprasiddhibādhāyogāt vākyaśeṣasyaiva yājñikaprasiddhimūlatvenāṅgīkāryatve "taddhetoreve"ti nyāyena nirṇāyakatvam iti dhyeyam //

vastutastu --- aśvavālaśabdasya gauṇatvābhyupagame gauṇatāyāḥ padāntarasāmānādhikaraṇyasāpekṣatvena asāmarthyāpatteḥ āśvavāla iti taddhitānutpattiprasaṃgāt naiva gauṇatvam, apitu vaidikaprasiddhyā balīyasyāvayavārthaprasiddhibādhāt aśvakarṇaśabda ivakāśeṣu rūḍhyavagamādiha śakyārthasyaiva grahaṇe 'pi avayavayogenāpi śaktyavadhāraṇāt nānārthatvameva /
etena --- arthavāda eva kāśapadaṃ keśarūpavālalakṣaṇārthamastu, kṛtaṃ śakyāntarakalpanena iti --- nirastam; 'te vālāḥ kāśatāṃ prāptā' ityananvayāpatteḥ //

sā na yuktā; smṛtyadhikaraṇe vedātiriktavidyāsthānamātrasya vedamūlakatayā prāmāṇyasya sādhitatvena tadviruddhatvāt /
atassiddhānte sūtradvayena svaraniyamavākyaśeṣābhidhānena vedavailakṣaṇyapratipādanāt svataḥprāmāṇyanirākaraṇapratīteḥ pūrvapakṣe svātantryeṇa prāmāṇyamabhyupetya smṛtyadhikaraṇasādhitavedamūlakatvahetukaprāmāṇyākṣepeṇa pūrvapakṣamupavarṇya tasyaiveha siddhānte nirākaraṇadvārā smṛtyadhikaraṇasādhitasya sthirīkaraṇena bhāṣyagatapramāṇāpramāṇaśabdayoḥ svātantryāsvātantryavyākhyāyāṃ ākṣepahetossarvatrāviśeṣeṇa smṛtyādiṣvapi tadākṣepasamādhānayossaṃbhavāt kalpasūtrapadaṃ bhāṣyagataṃ upalakṣaṇamabhipretya mlecchācārāṇāṃ keṣāñcidanāditvena śiṣṭācāratulyatayā svatantryaprāmāṇye 'bhihite ihāpi vedatvena vedatulyatayā vā svataḥ prāmāṇyopapatternaiṣāṃ vedamūlatvaṃ tadvirodhena vā nāprāmāṇyaṃ yuktamityanantarādhikaraṇavyutpāditaprāmāṇyopajīvanena smṛtivirodhādhikaraṇadvayākṣepādākṣepikīṃ saṃgatiṃ spaṣṭatvādapradarśyaivodāharaṇāni darśayati --- sarvasmṛtīnāmiti //
(kalpānāṃ sūtrāṇāṃ ca smṛtyadhikaraṇaviṣayatvena tadākṣepaparādhikaraṇaviṣayatvayogena kalpasūtrayoḥ lakṣaṇādinirūpaṇam) na kevalaṃ smṛtyadhikaraṇe manvādismṛtimātramudāharaṇaṃ, yena tāvanmātraviṣaya evāyamākṣepo bhavet, apitu vedātiriktānāṃ sarveṣāmevodāharaṇatvāt kalpasūtrādiviṣayasyāpi tasyākṣepaṃ sūcayitumāha --- kalpasūtrāṇāṃ veti //
kalpāśca sūtrāṇi ceti vigrahaḥ /
kalpā nāma prayogaṃ kalpayantīti vyutpattyā siddharūpaprayogapratipādakā granthā bodhāyanavārāhamāśakādipraṇītāḥ, sūtrāṇi tu sūcayantīti vyutpattyā ṛcaṃ pādagrahaṇaṃ etattīrthamityācakṣate ityādisvaparibhāṣāsvasaṃjñābhiryutāni prayogaviśeṣonnāyakalakṣaṇapratipādakā āśvalāyanabaijāvāpakātyāyanādikṛtā granthā iti bhedaḥ /
taduktaṃ vārtike --- "siddharūpaḥ prayogo yaiḥ karmaṇāmanugamyate /
tatkalpā lakṣaṇārthāni sūtrāṇīti pracakṣate" iti //
anyatrāpi ---
"laghūni sūcitārthāni svalpākṣarapadāni ca /
sarvatassārabhūtāni sūtrāṇyāhurmanīṣiṇaḥ" iti //
(śākyādigranthānāṃ kalpasūtrādhikaraṇaviṣayatvopapādanam) śākyādīti //
yadyapi smṛtyadhikaraṇe śākyādigranthānāṃ na prāmāṇyaṃ sādhitaṃ, yenākṣepaviṣayatocyeta; tathāpi virodhādhikaraṇe vārtikakṛtā teṣāṃ vedamūlatvāsaṃbhavenāprāmāṇyasya pratipāditatvādihākṣepasādhitahetoḥ svātantryasyāprāmāṇyākṣepe 'pi pravṛtteḥ siddhāntānupayoge 'pi vicāraviṣayatvamupapadyate iti bhāvaḥ //
atra sarvatra vāśabdo na pakṣāntaradyotakaḥ, kintu anāsthādyotakaḥ san sarveṣūdāharaṇatvajñāpaka eva

(vedatvena vedatulyatvena vā lāghavāt kalpasūtrāṇāṃ prāmāṇyapūrvapakṣaḥ) ata eva vārtike "evametāni catvāryapi vidyāsthānānī"tyuktam /

yathaiva smṛtyadhikaraṇe bhrāntyādimūlatvakalpanāto vedamūlatvakalpanāyā laghubhūtatvāt vedamūlatvamevāśritam, tathaiva dṛḍhataraśiṣṭatraivarṇikaparigraheṇa avaśyavaktavye prāmāṇye vedamūlatvakalpanāpekṣayāpi apauruṣeyatvakalpanāyā laghubhūtatvāttadeva yuktamāśrayitum ityapauruṣeyatvasāmyāt manvādinibandhanāni, vedāḥ, dharmamūlatvāt, vidhivadityanumānena vedatvam /
yadātu tāni avedāḥ, vedamudrārahitatvādvedatvenābhiyuktaprasiddhyabhāvādvā kāvyavaditi satpratipakṣānumānaparāhatatvamupanyasyeta; tadā vedatulyatvaṃ vetyarthaḥ //
(pratyakṣavedārthasaṃgrāhakatvena praṇayanavaiyarthyāpattyā vedatvena prāmāṇyanirūpaṇam) kiñca manvādismṛtīnāṃ tirohitaprāyavedārthanibandhanatvāt kathañcidarthavattve 'pi kalpasūtrāṇāṃ vispaṣṭaṃ sakalajanapratyakṣavedārthopanibandhanāt praṇayanānarthakyāpatteḥ śākhāntaravadevāpauruṣeyatvena vedatvaṃ yuktam /
nahi sakalajanapratyakṣavedavākyārthaviṣayamarthaṃ vadatāmeṣāṃ puruṣaiḥ praṇayanaṃ saṃbhavati /
tathātve vāmīṣāṃ vidhāyakopasthānamātreṇa caritārthatvāt dharmapramājanakatvānupapatterdharmamūlasmaraṇānupapatteriti bhāvaḥ

(anādibrahmayajñavidhiviṣayatvena smṛtīnāṃ svataḥpramāṇadharmādharmapramitijanakatvena śākyādignthānāṃ ca prāmāṇyanirūpaṇam) nityabrahmayajñeti //
"aharahaḥ svādhyāyamadhīyīte"tyupakramya "yadṛco 'dhīte yadyajūṃṣi yadbrāhmaṇānītihāsānpurāṇāni kalpāni"ti nityo 'nādisiddho brahmayajñavidhiḥ /
nahi kalpādīnāmādhunikatve sa upapadyata ityarthaḥ //
yadyapi na śākyādigranthānāṃ nityabrahmayajñavidhiviṣayatvam; tathāpi śākyādigranthebhyo dharmādharmāvagateḥ svasaṃvedyatvāttasyāśca svataḥprāmāṇyasya tarkapāde sthāpitatvādāptoktatvalakṣaṇaguṇābhāve 'pi prāmāṇyāvighātaḥ /
naca --- mīmāṃsakaiḥ prāmāṇyānabhyupagame 'pi śākyaiḥ parataḥprāmāṇyābhyupagamāt āptoktatvalakṣaṇaguṇābhāve kathaṃ prāmāṇyopapattiḥ? "utpādādvā tathāgatānāmanutpādādvā sthitaivaiṣāṃ dharmanityate"ti śākyena pravāhanityatvena kūṭasthanityatvena vā dharmanityatvasyoktatvāt, tatra nityatvasya ca tatpratipādakāgamanityatvamantareṇānupapatteḥ nityānāṃ cāgamānāṃ asvatastve prāmāṇyānirvāhāt svatastvābhyupagame 'pi apasiddhāntānāpatteḥ /
evaṃ satyapi yadi svakartṛkatvamabhyupagamyeta, tadā kartṛdoṣeṇa prāmāṇyāvagatirbādhyetāpi, natu tadabhyupagamo yuktaḥ; gauravāt /
evañca yadyapi vedamūlakatve nirākṛte vedatvaṃ vedatulyatvaṃ vā dūreṇāpāstam; tathāpi "śākyādiścoraḥ svāgamaprāmāṇyagrāmaṃ pratyakṣādimūlatvenānyadvāreṇa praveṣṭumudyato 'tīndriyārthadarśanāsāmarthyavedamārgabāhyatvalakṣaṇanyāyadaṇḍapāṇibhirmīmāṃsakaiḥ vārito varaṃ na praviśet, saṃprati tu mīmāṃsakānumatenāpauruṣeyatvena mahāpathenaiva prakaṭaṃ praveṣṭuṃ icchatī"ti vārtikoktarītyā saṃbhavatyevāprāmāṇyākṣepeṇa svātantryeṇa prāmāṇyamiti bhāvaḥ //
(ṣaḍaṅgavedatvanirūpaṇaprakāraḥ) aṅgānāntu vedatve spaṣṭameva hetumāha --- aṅgānāntviti //
"mantrabrāhmaṇayorvedanāmadheyaṃ ṣaḍaṅgameka" eti gautamasmṛteḥ spaṣṭameva vedatvamityarthaḥ /
apauruṣeyatve bodhāyanabauddhamāśakādisamākhyānupapattiṃ kāṭhakādisamākhyāvadupapattyā pariharati
--- buddheti //
etādṛśasamākhyāmūlikaivaiṣu lokānāṃ pauruṣeyatvabhrāntirityarthaḥ //
(dṛḍhakartṛsmaraṇena smṛtyādipauruṣeyatvavyavasthāpanam) dṛśyābhāvasādhakasya dṛśyādarśanasyeveha kartrabhāvasādhakasyasmartavyāsmaraṇasyābhāvena vedavadakartṛkatvānupapatteḥ pauruṣeyatve 'pi prāmāṇyasya lāghavamātreṇa tatsādhane kālidāsādivākyeṣvapi tadāpatteḥ tasya prāmāṇyopaṣṭambhakatvena svataḥpramāṇatvābhāvācca nāpauruṣeyatvasiddhyā vedatvaṃ vedatulyatvaṃ vetyabhipretya siddhāntamāha --- dṛḍheti //
ataśca smartavyāsmaraṇahetunā vedāpauruṣeyatve nyāyataḥ svaravākyaśeṣādimudrādibhiśca siddhe kāṭhakādisamākhyāyāḥ tadanurodhena pravacananimittatvāṅgīkāre 'pīha kartrabhāvasādhakapramāṇābhāvena pratyuta tatsādhakapramāṇasattvena pravacananimittatvena na tattatsamākhyā netuṃ yuktā /
evaṃ satyapi yadi traivarṇikānāṃ dharmatvasmaraṇaṃ apauruṣeyatvaṃ vinā nopapadyeta, tataḥ kalpyetāpi tat, tattu vedamūlatvenāpyupapannataramityabhipretyopasaṃharati --- tasmāditi //
<B1> prayojanaṃ kalpādīnāṃ vedatve tattulyatve vā yatra pratyakṣaśrutivirodhastatra vikalpaḥ /
yatra vā pratyakṣaśrutivirodhābhāve 'pi nyāyobhāsopanyāsapūrvakaṃ vacanaṃ, tatrāpi vacanatvādeva tadanuṣṭhānaṃ, nyāyopanyāsastu hetvadhikaraṇanyāyenārthavādaḥ /

siddhānte tu pratyakṣaśrutivirodhe sannyāyavirodhe ca yāvanmūlaśrutidarśanamananuṣṭhānalakṣaṇamaprāmāṇyam /
śrutidarśanottarantu vikalpaḥ /
yatra tu nyāyopanyāsarahitaṃ mīmāṃsānyāyaviruddhañca smṛtervacanaṃ tatra śrutimūlakatvasambhavena vacanavirodhe nyāyasyaivābhāsatvāttadartha evānuṣṭheya iti /
atra sarvatrodāharaṇāni mūloktodāharaṇadūṣaṇāni cāsmatkṛte kaustubhe draṣṭavyāni // 9 // <B2> (nityabrahmayajñavidhiviṣayatvādiprāptavedatulyatvādinirākaraṇam) yā tu nityabrahmayajñavidhiviṣayatvānupapattiḥ, tāṃ pariharati --- nityeti //
yathaiva vrīhitvajātimādāya nityasaṃyogavirodhaparihāraḥ, tathā sarvagrantheṣu vākyatvavatkalpyatvajātyanaṅgīkāre 'pi kḷpidhātvarthānusāreṇa vedārthaprakalpakatvopādhinaivañjātīyakānāṃ granthānāṃ sarvakālaṃ keṣāñcitsaṃbhavena pravāhanityatayā nityasaṃyogāvirodhopapatterna doṣa ityarthaḥ /
yattu aṅgānāṃ vedatvasmaraṇaṃ, tadekagrahaṇādeva pūrvapakṣatvapratīteḥ "mantrabrāhmaṇayoḥ vedanāmadheyami"tyatraikagrahaṇābhāvena siddhāntatvapratīteḥ asanmūlakamityāha --- ekagrahaṇāttviti //
(kalpasūtrapraṇayanasārthakyopapādanam) yattu praṇayanavaiyarthyāpādanaṃ, tannānāśākhāgatānāmekādaśakapālatvādīnāṃ samuccitānāṃ ca prayojādyanumantraṇamantrādīnāṃ śākhāntarīyavākyādhīnabādhopasaṃhāraparisaṃkhyāpadārthalakṣaṇāpūrvatādijñānārthatvāda yuktam /
upasaṃhārasya mīmāṃsābhijñaiḥ svaśākhāmātrādhyāyibhiḥkvacidudāharaṇaviśeṣe jñātuṃ śakyatve 'pi sarvodāharaṇeṣu jñātumaśakyatvāt tattadarthasmṛtivikṣepakārthavādatyāgena saṃpratyanuṣṭhānasya kartumaśakyatvācca praṇayanasārthakyopapatteḥ pariharaṇīyam /
prakṛte śākhāntaravadadhyetṛbhedābhāvāttulyādhyetṛkatvāttvanmata eva vidhyantarānarthakyamityabhyāsāt karmāntaratvāpatteratīva gauravam /
mama tu pratyakṣavidhivihitārthānuvādakatve 'pi anuṣṭhānasaukaryārthaṃ kalpādinopasthāpanamarthavaditi /
naca --- evaṃ ekaikasyāṃ śākhāyāṃ pañcaṣaṭsaṃkhyākakalpasūtrāmnānavaiyarthyam, ekenaiva tadupasthāpanasiddheḥ iti ---vācyam; svādhyāyādhyayanavidhau svapadopādānāt pāraṃparyāgataikaśākhādhyayananiyamasyeva "bahvalpaṃ vāsvagṛhyoktaṃ yasya yāvatprakīrtitaṃ /
tasya tāvati śāstrārthe kṛte sarvaḥ kṛto bhavedi"ti śākhāntarādhikaraṇagatasarvāṅgopasaṃhārānukalpavidhāvapi svapadopādānena gṛhyapadopalakṣita- kalpasūtrādīnāmapi pāraṃparyāgataikagṛhyasūtrādhyayananiyamasyāpi pratīteranekakalpasūtrādyadhyayanasyāprasaktyānekairupasthāpanena sārthakyopapatteḥ; nahyuttarādhikaraṇe kalpasūtrādīnāṃ parigrahavyavasthāpi nirasiṣyate 'pitu tadarthavyavasthaiva /
ataśca yānyāśvalāyanakātyāyanasūtrādīni tāni tattaccaraṇaireva paṭhanīyānītyevaṃparigrahavyavasthayā netaravaiyarthyamiti bhāvaḥ /
yadapi dharmapramājanakatvāsaṃbhavaḥ ityuktaṃ, tatra yatraiṣāṃ mūlabhūtā śrutirna pratyakṣā, tatra laukikavākyavat dharmapramājanakatvābhāve 'pi mūlabhūtaśrutyupasthāpakatvena dharmapramāprayojakatvopapatterbhāktameva prāmāṇyamiti smṛtyadhikaraṇa eva pratipādanānnirasanīyam /
yatra mūlabhūtā śrutiḥ pratyakṣā, tatrāpi tattātparyāvadhāraṇasya kalpasūtrādyadhīnatvāt tātparyaviṣayībhūtārthaviṣayapramājanakatvāt tadupapattiriti kaustubhe draṣṭavyam //
(śākyādigranthāprāmāṇyavyavasthāpanam) evaṃ vedamūlakatvena kalpādīnāṃ prāmāṇye sādhite 'pi śākyādigranthānāmapi samānanyāyātprāmāmye bhrāntiṃ prasaktāṃ pūrvahetunaiva nirasyati --- śākyādigranthānāṃ tviti /
tadasaṃbhavāditi //
vedāprāmāṇyavādibhireva tatprāmāṇyāṅgīkāreṇa vedamūlakatvasyāsaṃbhavādityarthaḥ /
(kalpasūtrādhikaraṇapūrvapakṣaprayojanāni) nanu kalpādīnāṃ siddhānte vedamūlakatvena prāmāṇyāṅgīkāre kiṃ vicāraprayojanamityapekṣāyāmāha --- prayojanamiti //
yatra pratyakṣeti //
yathā "audumbarīṃ spṛṣṭvodgāyet" iti śrutyāveṣṭanaviṣayakasūtrasya virodho bhāṣyakāramate, yathāvā "puroḍāśaṃ paryagnikarotī"ti kalpasūtravacanānāṃ virodhastatretyarthaḥ /
yatraveti --- yathā "anyatra tadarthavādavacanādi"ti pañcamādhyāyagatāśvalāyanavacane "suṣiro vā etarhi paśuryarhivapāmutkhidati yadvrīhimayaḥ puroḍāśo bhavatyapidhānāya" ityartha vādāvagatachidrāpidhānārthatvasyāgnīṣomīyapaśupuroḍāśe 'vagateḥ tasya ca savanīye 'tideśaprāptasyāpyakaraṇaṃ "anusavanaṃ savanīyāḥ puroḍāśā nirupyante vrīhitvācchidratāyā" ityarthavādāvagatachidrāpidhānarūpaphalakasavanīyaireva tatkāryasya siddhernyāyābhāsopanyāsapūrvakaṃ pratipāditaṃ tadvacanamityarthaḥ //

dvādaśādhyāye
"chidrāpidhānārthatvāt puroḍāśo na syāt anyeṣāmevamarthatvā"dityadhikaraṇe pūrvoktarītyā paśupuroḍāśasyākaraṇaṃ "puroḍāśena mādhyandine savane" iti liṅgāt vikalpena vā karaṇamiti pūrvapakṣaṃ prāpayyachidrāpidhānapratipādanasyārthavādamātratvāt daśame devatāsaṃskārārthatvasya sādhitatvānnityatvena kartavya eveti siddhāntitam /
atra mīmāṃsā sannyāyaḥ /
tadvirodha ityarthaḥ //
mīmāṃsānyāyaviruddhañceti //
yathā navame agniṣṭuti subrahmaṇyānigadagatānāṃ harivadvādipadānāṃ nyāyenānūhaḥ sādhitaḥ, tadviruddhaṃ "agna āgaccha rohitāśva bṛhadbhāno dhūmaketo jātavedo vicarṣaṇa" ityūhitapāṭhabodhakaṃ chandogasūtrakāravacanam /
yathāvā
"tathā yūpasya vedi" rititārtīyādhikaraṇe "ardhamantarvedi minotī"ti vacanena yūpārdhoddeśenāntarvedideśāṅgatvena vihiter'thādyūpārdhasya bahirvedideśe prāpte bahirvedītyayamanuvāda iti pūrvapakṣaṃ prāpayyāsaṃskṛtadeśa evāntarvedibarhirvedipadābhyāṃ lakṣayitvā vidhīyata iti siddhāntitam /
tatra pūrvapakṣe yūpāṅgatvādyūpavṛddhau paśvekādaśinyāmaṅgavṛddherāvaśyakatvātpratiyūpaṃ vedivṛddhirityetanmūlaṃ prastutotkarṣaṃ prakṛtyāpastaṃbairāmnātaṃ "yāvadyūpaṃ vedimuddhantī"ti kalpasūtrakāravacanaṃ siddhāntanyāyaviruddham /
yathāvā dvādaśādhikaraṇe daikṣai śrute
"jāghanyā patnīssaṃyājayantī"ti vākye paśvanuniṣpannajāghanyāḥ pratipattyapekṣatvāt tatpratipattyarthatayā patnīsaṃyājānāṃ vidhānam /
tataścātideśaprāptatayā paśvaikādaśinyāṃ sarvāsāmapi jāghanīnāṃ saṃskāryatvānurodhena sarvābhiḥ patnīsaṃyājāḥ kāryā iti jāghanīsamuccayapūrvapakṣaṃ prāpayya ājyena saha vikalpena prāptāyā jāghanyā niyamārthatvena vidhānopapattau na patnīsaṃyājādīnāṃ aprākṛtakāryārthatvaṃ kalpanīyam /
tataśca arthakarmatve sati jāghanyā upādeyatvena vivakṣitaikatvādyayā kayācidekayā tayā patnīsaṃyājā iti siddhāntitam /
ataśca mīmāṃsānyāyaviruddham
"jāghanībhiḥ patnīḥ saṃyājayantī"ti bahuvacanāntajāghanīpadaghaṭitaṃ kalpasūtrakāravacanamityarthaḥ /
yattu --- śāstradīpikāyāṃ etādṛśavacanānāṃ nyāyopanyāsarahitānāmapi mīmāṃsānyāyavirodhe sarvathāprāmāṇyamuktam, tannyāyavirodhābhāve śrutimūlakatvābhāvāniścayāteṣu bahutvādismaraṇasya śrutimūlatvopapatterupekṣaṇīyamitivyaktaṅkaustubhe //
atreti grantho vyākhyātacaraḥ

iti ṣaṣṭhaṃ kalpasūtrādhikaraṇam //
(avasarasaṃgatyā mūlabhūtavedagataviśeṣavicārapratijñā) evaṃ tāvatsamṛtīnāmācārāṇāṃ ātmatuṣṭeśca vedamūlakatvena prāmāṇye dṛḍhīkṛte avasaraprāptatvāt keṣucitsmṛtyācāreṣu mūlabhūtavedagato viśeṣaḥ tattadadhyetrācaritradhikārānadhikāravicāraphalībhūtaścintyate /
evamavasarasaṅgatimathaśabdena sūcayan viṣayaṃ darśayati --- atha yatreti //
(smṛtyādipadopalakṣaṇatānirūpaṇam) smṛtiṣviti padaṃ purāṇamānavetihāsavyatiriktadharmaśāstragṛhyopalakṣaṇaṃ /
tathā gautamīyachandogapade apyupalakṣaṇe /
yathā gautamīyā smṛtiśchandogaireva paṭhyate tathā gobhilīyamapi; tathā vāsiṣṭhaṃ bahvṛcaireva, śaṅkhalikhitaṃ vājasaneyibhireva, āpastambabodhāyanīye taittirīyaireva, teṣāmapi pāṭhavyavasthayā vicāraviṣayatvāt /
holākādīti
//
(holākādītyādipadārthaḥ) ādipadadvayena yathā holākācāraḥ prācyaireva, evaṃ vasantotsavaḥ, tathā svasvakulāgatakarañjārkādisthāvarapūjādyācāro āhnīnaibukasaṃjño dākṣiṇātyaireva, tathā "jyeṣṭhāyāṃ paurṇamāsyāṃ balīvardānabhyarcya dhāvayantī" tyudvṛṣabhayajña udīcyaireva /
tathā ayamevotsavo bhādrapadāmāvāsyāyāṃ dākṣiṇātyaireva /
tathā mātṛgaṇapūjācāraḥ pratīcyaireva iti vyavasthayā teṣāmapi vicāraviṣayatvāt /
evaṃ kvaciddeśaviśeṣe kaiścidevaṃ kiñcitkriyate teṣāmapyupalakṣaṇam //

yathā dvijānāmevāhitāgnitvāt śūdrādestadabhāvādagnihotrādiṣu kartṛviśeṣajñānaṃ sāmarthyāt /
yathāvā patitaṣaṇḍhādīnāṃ niṣedhādaniṣiddheṣveva patitaṣaṇḍharūpakartṛviśeṣajñānaṃ niṣedhavaśāt /
yathāvā rājasūye rājarūpakartṛviśeṣajñānaṃ rājarūpopapadādbhavati

sāca yadyapi pīlvādivarṇake yavavarāhādhikaraṇe bhāṣyamatenābhiyuktācārāt śāstrasthācārasya balavatvaṃ sādhitamitīhāpi smṛtyadhikaraṇasādhitasmṛtiprāmāṇyena sādhitaprāmāṇyakavyākaraṇānugṛhītācārabalīyastvāt nodetītyetadarthaṃ prathamato mūlabhūtavyākaraṇaprāmāṇyaṃ sādhitamapi na saṃbhavatītyetadavaśyaṃ sādhanīyameva darśayati --- smṛtyadhikaraṇeti //
(smṛtyadhikaraṇākṣepenaitadadhikaraṇapravṛttinirūpaṇam) samūlatve tatprāmāṇyāttadanugatā eva gavādayaḥ śabdā jyotiṣṭomādikarmaṇi prayoktavyāḥ, natu tadananugatā gāvyādayo 'pi /

atra prakāśakārā itthaṃ tallakṣaṇārthamāhuḥ--- harikārikāyām --- "anapabhraṣṭatānādiryadvābhyudayayogyatā /
vyākriyāvyañjanīyā vā jātiḥ kāpīha sādhutā" /
iti nirvacanaṃ tredhākṛtam /

tatrādṛṣṭasādhanatvapakṣau vihāya haradattena --- "anidaṃprathamāḥ śabdāḥ sādhavaḥ parikīrtitāḥ /
ta eva śaktivaikalyapramādālasatādibhiḥ /
anyathoccaritāḥ puṃbhiḥ apaśabdā udāhṛtāḥ /

" iti prathamapakṣasyaiva vistareṇokteḥ sa evādṛtaḥ pārthasārathinā /
tatra yadyapi anāditvamātraṃ sādhutvanirvacanamatra pratīyate; tathāpi anapabhraṣṭaviśeṣitaṃ tat draṣṭavyam /
tadeva 'manādiranapabhraṣṭatā sādhutvami'ti tadgranthe 'ntye upasaṃhārāt, harikārikāyāmapi viśeṣaṇaviśeṣyabhāvadarśanāccetarayo 'ranapabhraṣṭatānādiri'tyatra vāśabdaprayogācca /
tatra yadyanapabhraṣṭatvamātramucyeta tadā ṭighubhādisaṃjñāsvativyāptiḥ /

ato yadarthapratyāyakatvamanādi sa tatrārthe sādhuriti yuktam lakṣaṇamiti //
(anādivācakatvamityatra na viśeṣaṇaviśeṣyabhāvaḥ kintu lakṣaṇadvayamiti nirūpaṇam) atredamavadheyam --- yadyarthapratyāyakatvaṃ śaktyocyate, tadā gaṅgāgnipadayoḥ tīramāṇavakayorasādhutvāpattiḥ /
naca asmanmate śakyārthasyaiva tīrādyupasthāpakatvāt gaṅgādipadānāṃ tīrādipravāhavācakatvenaiva tīrādau sādhutvamiti prakāśakāroktaṃ yuktam; tatra yadi śakyārthapratyāyakatvameva vācyam, tāvatāpi anādipadopādānavaiyarthyam; ṭighubhādisaṃjñāsu śakterevābhāvena śakyārthapratyāyakatvamātreṇa nirākaraṇopapatteḥ, sādiśaktisvīkāre ca sādhutvasyāpyāpatteśca /

yattu ṭerityādīnāṃ śabdānukāratvāṅgīkāreṇa sādhutvamaṅgīkṛtya śabdaparatver'thaparatvābhāvāt śabdasyaiva lopādikāryānvayāpattimāśaṅkya śabdaparasyaiva lakṣaṇayār'thaparatvaṃ yaduktam, tatsvayameva pūrvaṃ sādhutvānaṅgīkārāt pūrvāparaviruddhatvāt śabdaparatvasyāpi anāditvābhāvādvedokta "helaya" ityādiśabdānāṃ anukaraṇatvāṅgīkāreṇa sādhutvena svayamaṅgīkṛtānāṃ anādyarthapratyāyakatvābhāvācca lakṣaṇasyāvyāpteścāyuktam /
vastutastu --- vṛttigrahābhāve ṭighubhādīnāṃ arthabodhakatvānupapattervṛttāvapi ca lakṣaṇāgauṇyoḥśakyapūrvakatvenāsaṃbhavātsaṃketatvena ca gāvyādiśabdavacchabdopasthāpanena śaktibhrameṇa vā bodhakatvānupapatteravaśyakalpyāyāṃ śaktau śabdaviṣayaśaktisvīkāreṇa arthaparatvameva yuktamiti tatrānādyarthapratyāyakatvābhāvāt durupapādameva sādhutvamityanādipadopādānaṃ vyarthameva /

diriti bhinnaṃ lakṣaṇam, aparaṃ ca anapabhraṣṭateti lakṣaṇam, na tu viśeṣaṇaviśeṣyabhāvaḥ /
ataeva śāstradīpikāyāṃ "sarvakālavṛttitvameva cānāditvaṃ sādhutvam /
taccāvicchinnapāraṃparyādabhiyuktasmaraṇena sulabhami"tyuktamiti mūlagranthavirodho 'pītyabhipretya harikārikāgatānapabhraṣṭatāpadasya yayāśrutārthaparatvamevāṅgīkṛtya dvitīyaṃ lakṣaṇamāha
--- anapabhraṣṭatva veti //
karaṇāpāṭavādijanyāpabhraṃśarahitatvamityarthaḥ //
(dvitīyalakṣaṇāsvārasyena tṛtīyaṃ tadasvārasyena tṛtīyaṃ ca lakṣaṇaṃ nirvakti) idamapi humādyanarthakavarṇeṣvativyāptam, ato lakṣaṇāntaramāha --- vyākaraṇeti //
atrāpi na gavādiśabdeṣvevānugatāgāvyādiśabdebhyo vyāvṛttā sādhutvaṃ nāma jātiḥ saṃbhavati; loke gavādiśabdamātravṛttisādhuśabdaprayogābhāvena tadaṅgīkāre mānābhāvāt /
kiñca vyākaraṇānugataśabdamātravṛttitvena tatsvīkāre vacantītyasyāpi sādhutvāpattiḥ /
yatra prayujyamānatve sati vyākaraṇānugatatvaṃ tatra sādhutvajātisvīkāre gavādipadasyānekakramikavarṇasamudāyātmakatvena yaugapadyāsaṃbhavāt "anārabdhe tu gośabde gośabdatvaṃ kathaṃ bhavedi"ti nyāyena padatvādijāteriva sādhutvādijāterapyasaṃbhava evetyayuktaṃ lakṣaṇaṃ matvā nyāyasudhākāroktaṃ lakṣaṇāntaramāha --- pramitavṛttyeti //
(vṛttitvādinirvacanāsaṃbhavena vṛttīyalakṣaṇe prakāśakṛto dūṣaṇaparihārau) yattu atra prakāśakāraiḥ na śaktyādyanugataṃ vṛttitvaṃ nāma kiñcit śakyate nirvaktumiti dūṣaṇaṃ dattam, tat śaktilakṣaṇāgauṇīṣu vṛttipadasya śāstrakāraiḥ saṃketitasyaiva laghunopāyena lakṣaṇe praveśānnirvacane prayojanābhāvādayuktam /
yadapi ādhunikasaṃketitanāmasu vṛttitvābhāvāllakṣaṇasyāvyāptiriti teṣāṃ dūṣaṇam, tat "dvādaśe 'hani pitā nāma kuryādi"ti sāmānyavidhinā putratvopādhinā sarveṣāṃ devadattaśabdādīnāṃ saṃketakaraṇena śakteḥ pramitatvādayuktam //
uktañca hariṇā --- "puntrādināmakaraṇe gṛhyeṣu niyamaśrute /
anādiśaktitā saṃjñāsvapi naiva virudhyate /

teṣāmanāditāsaṃjñāsvapītipāṭhaḥ /
tasmāt teṣāmapyanāditāṅgīkārādarthapratyāyanarūpakāryānurodhenāvaśyaka eva śaktisvīkāra iti na doṣaḥ //
ṭighubhādisaṃjñāsvapi pūrvoktarītyār'thaparāṇāṃ sādiśaktisvīkārāt nāvyāptiḥ /
apaśabdānāṃ tu tattacchabdopasthāpanena arthapratyāyanāt vṛttyanaṅgīkārānnāpyativyāptiriti yuktaṃ lakṣaṇamityarthaḥ //
(vacantītyādīnāṃ sādhutvaparihāropāyaḥ) atra śaktibhrameṇārthapratyāyake 'paśabde 'tiprasaṃgavāraṇāya pramitapadopādāne 'pi yatra yaḥ śabdaḥ prayujyate, tasyaiva tādṛśārthapratyāyakatvamityapi niveśanīyam; itarathā ghaṭaśabdasya paṭe sādhutāpatteḥ /
tataśca etādṛśasādhutvasya vyākaraṇānugatatvameva śaktinirṇayadvārābhivyañjakam /
vacantītyādau vyākaraṇānugatatvasya
"nahi vacirantiparaḥ prayujyate" iti kātyāyanena niṣedhakaraṇenābhāvānna sādhutvamiti sādhutvāsādhutvopalakṣaṇenaikasyā eva śaktinirṇāyakatvānna ghaṭakalaśādivadvinigamanāviraha iti bhāvaḥ //
(āśaṅkānirāsapūrvakaṃsādhubhireva bhāṣeteti niyamasvarūpatadvyāvartyāṃśādinirūpaṇam) nanu --- atra kīdṛśo niyamo vivakṣitaḥ, kiṃ sādhubhirbhāṣetaivetyevaṃ kriyāviṣayako vā ? uta yadbhāṣitavyaṃ tatsādhubhireveti sādhanaviṣayo vā? /

akṣinikocādāvaprayogāt, kintu śabdavyāpārasādhyaṃ arthapratipādanam, tatra ca vācakasya sādhuśabdasyaiva prāpteratyantāvācakāsādhuprayogāprasakteḥ kathañcidasādhuprāptyā tanniyamakaraṇe 'kṣinikocāderapi kathañcitprāptyā nivṛttyāpattiriti --- cet, parihṛtametadācāryaiḥ /
svābhiprāyaprakāśanadvārār'thaprakāśanamātramatra bhāṣetetyanena lakṣaṇayocyate, yadi śabdavyāpāradvārār'thajñāpanarūpaṃ bhāṣaṇamucyeta, tadā sādhuvyatiriktopāyāprasaktyā sādhuniyamo 'narthako bhavet, iha tu svābhiprāyaprakāśanadvārār'thajñāpanarūpaṃ bhāṣaṇamuddiśya sādhuniyamavidhau ca na maune doṣaḥ /
tatroddeśyābhāvādeva vidhyapravṛttermaunavyāvartanāt yatrāpi bhojanādau vaidhaṃ maunaṃ, tatrāpi etadvidhipravṛttyākṣinikocādivyāvartanāt hastasaṃjñādinā śākāderjñāpanavāraṇādi na kāryam /
athavā --- sāmānyaviśeṣanyāyānmaunavidhinaiva sādhubhāṣaṇavidherbādhāttatphalī- bhūtākṣinikocādivyāvṛtterapi bādhānna śiṣṭācāravirodho 'pi /
nahyetādṛśe bhāṣaṇe 'sādūnāmaprasaktirasti /
atastadvyāvṛttyā yukto niyama iti /
prakārāntaramapi vārtike upapāditaṃ tatraiva draṣṭavyam /
ato yuktameva sādhuprayoganiyamamūlabhūtaśrutikalpanam //

tasmāt brāhmaṇena na mlecchitavai mleccho ha vā eṣa yadapaśabda" iti śrutau paṭhyamānāyāṃ vidhyarthe vihitena tavaipratyayena mlecchitavyamityarthāvagamāt pratyakṣata evāpabhāṣaṇaniṣedhācca sādhubhāṣaṇaniyamavidhiḥ pratīyate /
naca mlecchaśabdaḥ pārasikīśabdaviṣayaḥ; upakramopasaṃhārasthārthavādaparyālocanayāpaśabdamātraviṣayatvapratīteḥ /
upakrame ca "he araya" iti prayojye rephasthāne lakāraprayogeṇa "haihe prayoge haihayoḥ" ityetatsūtravihitaplutāprayogeṇa "plutapragṛhyā aci nityam" iti vihitaprakṛtibhāvābhāvācca "hetalaḥ" ityasurakṛtanividapaśabdabhāṣaṇasya parābhavarūpāniṣṭahetutvāvagaterata evāpaśabdatvenaivopasaṃhārapratīterna mlecchabhāṣāparatvamiti bhāvaḥ //

jyotiṣṭome pratinidhitayāpi apaśabdaniṣedhopapādanaṃ ca)
nanu kathaṃ kratvarthatayāpaśabdabhāṣaṇaniṣedhaḥ? apaśabdabhāṣaṇasya puruṣārthatvena tadviṣayakaniṣedhasya niṣedhyasamānārthakatvasya yuktatvāt, ityata āha --- ayañceti //
"nānṛtaṃ vadaidi"ti prakaraṇāt jyotiṣṭomāṅgam /
"strayupāyamāṃsabhakṣādi puruṣārthamapi śritaḥ /
pratiṣedhaḥ kratoraṅgamiṣṭaḥ prakaraṇāśrayāt" itivārtikoktarītyā yadarthā kriyā tadartho niṣedha iti niyamasyautsargikatvāt na doṣa ityarthaḥ /
na kevalaṃ jyotiṣṭoma eva tanniṣedho 'pitu yajñamātra ityāha

so 'nantamāpnoti phalaṃ paratra ce"ti caraṇatrayavihitasya puruṣārthasya sādhuniyamasyaucityena stutyarthaṃ

etacca "āhitāgnirapaśabdaṃ prayujya sārasvatīmiṣṭiṃ nirvapedi"ti prāyaścittavidhyanyathānupapatti- kalpitāpaśabdaniṣedhasyāpyupalakṣaṇam /
tatrāpyāhitāgnipadopādānāt tatsādhyakratumātraprasaktāpaśabdaprayoge prāyaścittavidhānāt niṣedhasya yajñamātraparatvamavasīyate

(puruṣārthatayāpaśabdabhāṣaṇaniṣedha iti prakāśakāramataṃ tatkhaṇḍanaṃ ca) yattu --- etasya yajñātiriktavyavahāre puruṣārthatayāpaśabdabhāṣaṇaniṣedhaparatvaṃ prakāśakārā varṇayanti, tasya dūṣaṇaṃ kaustubhe draṣṭavyam /
ataeva "anyatrāniyama" iti bhāṣyakārīyaṃ vacanaṃ āhitāgnīnāmapi vyavahārakāle harināmakīrtanādapaśabdabhāṣaṇācāro 'nugṛhīto bhavatītyalaṃ vistareṇa //
(satyaṃ vadet, nānṛtaṃ vadedityanayoḥ prayoganiyamamūlatvamitiśāstradīpikātadvyākhyānayoḥ siddhāntakhaṇḍanam) yattu --- samyaktvāsamyaktvavācisatyānṛtapadopādānāt "satyaṃ vadet" "nānṛtaṃ vadet" ityanayoreva śrutismṛtiṣu śrūyamāṇayorvidhiniṣedhayoḥ prayoganiyamāṃśe mūlatvopapatterekopalakṣaṇāsaṃbhavena mūlakalpanānirāse na yukta iti vārtike pakṣāntaramāha --- tadeva śāstradīpikāyāmanusṛtam, tadvadedityasyārthābhidhānārthakatvavacchabdoccāraṇaparatvādanṛtapadasyāpyarthaviṣaye satyatvaparatvāt śabdaviṣaye vāpabhraṣṭatvaparatvāt sakṛcchrutasya anekārthaparatvāyogenobhayaniṣedhakatvāyogāt pratyuta "eṣa ha vai satyaṃ vadan satye juhotyastamite juhoti udite prātaḥ prātaranṛtaṃ te vadanti purodayājjuhvati ye 'gnihotrami"tyādiśrutiparyālocanayār'thaparatvāvasāyācchabdaparatvānupapattergāvyādi śabdasya ca śiṣṭairagarhitatvātprauḍhivādamātramiti rāṇake eva vyaktam /
yattu --- somanāthena satyatvaṃ nāma vṛttyābādhitārthabodhakatvam /
tacca gauriyamiti śabde arthasya gorabādhitatvādarthaviṣayaṃ satyatvam, gośabdasya śaktyā pratipādakatvāt śabdaviṣayasatyatvamityubhayamapi niruktarūpeṇa ekasyaiva satyaśabdasyārthaḥ /
gāvyastītyatra tu arthābādhe 'pi vṛtterabhāvācchabdānṛtatvaṃ, arthabādhasthaletu pratipādakatvasadbhāve 'pyarthasyābādhitatvābhāvānnātiprasaṅga ityubhayaṃ niruktabodhakatvābhāvenaikasyaivānṛtaśabdasyārtho 'taḥ satyānṛtaśabdayoḥ nānekārthatāpattiḥ---
ityuktam; tadekarūpeṇāpi pratipāditārthadvayasya yugapadvadanakriyānvayāyogāt kriyāpade anekārthakalpanayā āvṛttyāpatteranivāraṇadupekṣyam //
(apaśabdabhāṣaṇaniṣedhasya kratvarthatopasaṃhāraḥ) evañca "na mlecchabhāṣāṃ śikṣeta" ityādiniṣedhaiḥ mlecchabhāṣāyāḥ puruṣārthatayā sarvatra niṣedhepyapaśabdarūpānyabhāṣāniṣedhasya sarvathā kratvarthatayaivāvagateḥ vyavahārakāle taduccāraṇānnaiva pratyavāya iti siddham //
(yajamānasaṃskāradvārā sākṣādvā kratvapūrve sādhuprayoganiyamāpūrvasyopayogaḥ) evaṃ tāvat jyotiṣṭomaprakaraṇagataniṣedhasya prakaraṇātkratvarthatve prāpte 'pi jañjabhyamānānuvacananyāyena jyotiṣṭomāpūrvasādhanībhūtabrāhmaṇapadopāttayajamānasaṃskāratvāvagateḥ tatra ca yajamānasyaiva tārtīyanyāyena kartṛtvena saṃskāryatvāt tadarthāpattyā kalpitasādhuniyamavidhivihitasādhuniyamādṛṣṭasya kratvarthatvāt tajjanyaphalādhānayogyatāsaṃpādanadvārā kratvapūrve upayogāt na vaiyarthyam /

"yājñe karmaṇī"ti mahābhāṣyakāravacanāt yajñamātrāpūrve 'pi upayogānna vaiyarthyam /
etāvāṃstu viśeṣaḥ--- mahābhāṣyakāravacane kratuyuktapuruṣavācakapadopādānābhāvāttatsaṃskāratve pramāṇābhāvādanṛtavadana- varjanasyaiva śuddhakratudharmatvāttatkṛtavaiguṇyaparihārārthaṃ ṛtvigyajamānasādhāraṇyena karmāṅgabhūtavrīhyādipadārthavyavahārārthaṃ laukikaśabde prayoktavye vyākaraṇānugataśabdaniyamāttajjanyaṃ yadavaghātādiniyamajanyādṛṣṭavat śuddhakratvarthaṃ apūrvaṃ tadaṅgabhūtavrīhyādiniṣṭhameva kalpyate iti //
(kratvarthatvavatsaṃyogapṛthaktvanyāyena puruṣārthatvamapīti nirūpaṇam) etāvatāca kratvarthatvena niyamādṛṣṭavaiyarthye parihṛte saṃyogapṛthaktvanyāyena puruṣārthatāṅgīkaraṇamityapiśabdābhyāṃ sūcayan tadvaiyarthyaṃ parihartumāha --- sādhuprayoganiyamāditi //
"ekaḥ śabdaḥ suprayuktaḥ" ityanārabhyādhītavākyena phalasaṃbandhasyāpi bodhanāt tādṛśaphalasyāpūrvaṃ vināniṣpatteḥ tatra ca jyotiṣṭomasādhyaphalopabhogalakṣaṇakāryopayogitvādvapanādineva phalādhānayogyatārūpasaṃskārasya sādhuniyamena niṣpatterupayogānna vaiyarthyamityarthaḥ //
(ekaḥ śabda iti vākyārthasya prakṛtānuguṇasya saṃpādanaprakāraḥ) atra ca suprayukta ityasya agre śāstrānvaya ityapi paṭhati /
tena śāstraśabdena rūḍhyā vidyāsthānavācinā vyākaraṇasyaivābhidhānāt vyākaraṇaśāstrānugatasādhuśabdabhāṣaṇaniyamasya svargasādhanatvāvagateḥ puruṣārthatā avasīyate /
tathāca rāgaprāptaprayogāśritaḥ sādhuniyamo bhojanāśritaḥ prāṅmukhatvaniyama āyuṣyaphala iva svargaphale vidhīyate /
tasya cājñātasya śabdasya prayogāśritatvāsaṃbhavādarthaprāptavyākaraṇotthajñānakarmatvasyānuvādakameva samyagjñāta iti padam /
evañcātra prayogāśritādeva phalokteḥ jñānamātrādeva dharma iti pakṣo bhāṣyādyukto 'pi abhyupetyavādenaiva neyaḥ //
(sādhuśabdānāṃ prayogāśritānāmeva phalasādhanatvaṃ na jñānamātrādityasya sopapattikamupapādanam) ataeva jñānasya sādhuniyamārthatvena parārthatvājjñānaphalapratipādakānāṃ vacanānāṃ "yo 'śvamedhena yajate ya u cainamevaṃ vede" tivatparṇamayīnyāyenārthavādatvameva /
etena --- śāstrotthajñānapūrvakaprayogasyaiva dharmahetutvābhidhānaṃ vyākaraṇavārtikakārīyaṃ --- nirastam; prayogasya rāgaprāptatvena avidheyatvena phalasaṃbandhāsaṃbhavāt /
naca bhāṣaṇasyāpyarthajñānārthatvena parārthatvādapāpaślokaśravaṇavat "svarge loke" ityasyāpi arthavādamātratvaṃ śaṅkyam; anārabhyavihitasya bhāṣaṇasya kratvarthatve pramāṇābhāvena dṛṣṭārthavyavahārahetutvena śuddhapuruṣārthatvāvagateḥ phalākāṅkṣāyāṃ "phalamātreyo nirdeśādi"ti nyāyena phalapratipādakatvopapatteḥ iti bhāvaḥ //
(rāgaprāptasya sādhuprayogasyāśrayatvenānvetuṃ yogyasyopasthāpakapramāṇanirūpaṇam) nanu evaṃ dṛṣṭārthasya rāgaprāptasya bhojanasyādhikārākhyaprakaraṇena diṅyimāśrayatvasaṃbhave 'pi iha tadabhāve upasthitimātreṇāśrayatve kriyāntarāṇāmapyāśrayatvāpattyā suprayukta iti nityavadanuvādānupapattiriti śaṅkāṃ pariharati --- rāgaprāptasyāpīti //

(gavādaya eva sādhava ityatrānādiprayogaparaṃparāyā eva mūlatvanirūpaṇam) anādiprayogaparaṃparaiveti //
sādhutvāśrayāṇāṃ śabdānāṃ śrotrapratyakṣasiddhatvāt teṣāṃ pramāṇyaniścaya eva kevalaṃ vyākaraṇādhīna iti tatrāpi vyākaraṇāntaramūlakatvādupapannamevānādisādhusvarūpaniyamajñānam; caturdaśamahāvidyāsthānāntargatatvena kalpādivatpravāhanityatāyā vyākaraṇe 'pi svīkartuṃ yuktatvāt /
anyathā tatrāpi nityabrahmayajñavidhiviṣayatvānupapatteḥ /
ata eva taittirīyagate
"prayājānūyājeṣu vibhaktiḥ kuryā" diti brāhmaṇe vibhaktikaraṇamupapadyate /
nacaivaṃ smṛtyantaramūlakatve 'ndhaparaṃparāpattiḥ;
adṛṣṭasādhanatvasyāṣṭakādau pratyakṣāviṣayatvena andhaparaṃparāprāptāvapi "brāhmaṇyāṃ brāhmaṇājjāto brāhmaṇa" iti smṛtyuktābhivyañjakajñānasahakṛtacakṣurgrāhyatvena brāhmaṇapratyakṣasyevehāpi pūrvapūrvavyākaraṇāvagataprakṛtipratyayādyabhivyañjakābhyāsajanitasaṃskārasahakṛtenārthajñānānyathānupapatti- sahakṛtena ca śrotreṇādyayāvatsādhuśabdapratyakṣopapattestadaprasakteḥ /
ato "gavādaya eva sādhava" iti svarūpaniyame 'nādiprayogaparaṃparaiva mūlamiti bhāvaḥ /
ato vedāvagatasamya
ksādhuśabdaprayogātmakadharmāṅgatvena vyākaraṇaprakriyeti kartavyatayopayujyate iti siddhaṃ vyākaraṇaprāmāṇyamupasaṃharati --- ata iti //
etadupapādanapūrvakaṃ nyāyaviruddhatvena darśitaṃ kaustubhe draṣṭavyam /
śrutiviruddhaṃ ceti //
(kalerḍhak vāmadevāḍḍyaḍyau ityanvākhyānayorarthavādaviruddhayoḥ sarvaveṣṭanavadananuṣṭhānalakṣaṇāprāmāṇyanirūpaṇam) "dṛṣṭaṃ sāme"tyadhikāre "kalerḍhak" "vāmadevādḍyaḍyā"- viti sūtrābhyāṃ kalinā vāmadevena varṣiṇā dṛṣṭaṃ sometyarthe kāleya - vāmadevyaśabdayoḥ sādhutvānvākhyānaṃ kriyamāṇaṃ śrutiviruddham; "yadakālayattatkāleyasya kāleyatva" mityarthavāde sukhasvīkārarūpakālaprāptinimittatvasya kāleyaśabde 'bhidhānāt /
tathā "āpo vai ṛtviyamārcchantyāsāṃ vāyuḥ pṛṣṭhe vyavartata tato vāmaṃ vasu sannyabhavat tanmitrāvaruṇau paryapaśyatāṃ tāvabrūtāṃ vāmaṃ martyā idaṃ devebhyo 'jani tasmādvāmadevyaṃ" ityarthavāde vāmadevya iti samabhivyāhṛtapadadvayoccāraṇakriyānimittatvasya vāmadevyapade 'bhidhānāt /
ataḥ tat yāvatmūlabhūtaśrutidarśanamananuṣṭhānalakṣaṇāprāmāṇyaviṣayaṃ bhavatu sarvaveṣṭanasmṛtivannatvetāvatā sarvasyāprāmāṇyamityarthaḥ /
prayojanaṃ pūrvottarapakṣotthaṃ prāgeva darśitam //

yathā saro rasa iti kramāt, brahma brāhmaṇeti nyūnātiriktatvāt, sthūlapṛṣatītyatra karmadhārayabahuvrīhyoḥ svarāt antodāttatvādyudāttatvarūpāt, pacate dakṣiṇāṃ dehi bhojanārthaṃ pacate ityatra vyadhikaraṇapadasannidhirūpādvākyāt, yātaḥ punarāyāti yāto devadattayajñadattau ityatra samānādhikaraṇapadasannidhirūpaśrutyā, aśva iti agama ityarthe vyākaraṇasmṛtyā; tadamijñasya padabhedānubhavāt /
yatra tu nārthabhedapratītistatra satyapi dharmabhede dṛḍhatarapratyamijñābalenaikatvāvadhāraṇānna padānyatvaṃ lokavedayoriti yuktā ādyā cintā /

lokavedādhikaraṇaṃ tu tadupoddhātatvena madhye saṃgatamityevaṃ saṅgatiṃ sūcayitumākṛtyadhikaraṇacintāṃ prathamato darśayati --- vācaketi //
prasaṅgādityapavādasaṃgaterapi upalakṣaṇam /
pūrvaṃ vyākaraṇaprāmāṇyasya sādhitasyeha kātyāyanenokte vyaktivācitvāṃśe 'pi prasaktasyāpavādakaraṇenāpi tadupapatteḥ /
ata eva pratipadādhikaraṇādirūpopodghātasya prakṛtamanupakramyaiva kṛtasyeveha na karaṇam; asaṅgatiprasaṅgāt /
tatratvadhyāyāditvānnānantarasaṃgatyapekṣeti viśeṣaḥ /
athavā --- tatra "bhāvārthāḥ karmaśabdā" iti bhāvārthādhikaraṇasūtraṃ na kathañcidapi pratipadādhikaraṇe 'pi śakyaṃ yojayitumiti sūcayituṃ prakṛtamanupakramyārambha iti viśeṣaḥ //
(dravyaguṇakriyāvācakānāṃ sarveṣāmapyudāharaṇatvanirūpaṇam) ghaṭatvādijātiriti //
nahyetāvatā dravyavācakānāmevodāharaṇatvamiti bhramitavyam; dravyatvāvāntaravyāpyaghaṭatvādijātivat guṇatvāvāntaravyāpyaśuklatvādijāterapyaṅgīkāre bādhakābhāvāt /
karmatvāvāntarajātīnāṃ ca jyotiṣṭomatvādīnāṃ śabdāntarādipramāṇagamyatvenābhyāsādhikaraṇe sādhayiṣyamāṇatvāt teṣāmapi guṇakriyāśabdānāmudāharaṇatvopapatteḥ /
evamākhyāte 'pi prakṛtipratyayayoḥ dhātvarthabhāvanāvācitve sādhite 'pi tadgatajātyupadhyanyataradharmavācitvam,
athavā --- tadupalakṣitavyaktivācitvamiti vicārasaṃbhavādudāharaṇatvaṃ draṣṭavyam //
(lokavedaśabdayoranyatve 'pi ākṛtyadhikaraṇanāvaśyakatāśaṅkāsamādhānābhyāṃ lokavedādhikaraṇāvaśyakatānirūpaṇam) ākṛtyadhikaraṇavicāropodghātaṃ darśayati --- tadarthañceti //
śabdānāmityetadarthānāmapyupalakṣaṇam //
vede phaliṣyatīti //
yadi anyaḥ śabdo bhavettadā laukikaprayogasyārthapratyāyanārthatvena yathākathañcit tātparyādevānyatarārthāvagateḥ saṃbhavena naiva tadviśeṣavācyatvavicārasya prayojanam /
vede yadyapi prayojanamīdṛśaṃ saṃbhavati /
pūrvapakṣe "yadāhavanīye juhotī"tyatra juhoteritarahomavyaktau padavadāhavanīyasyāpi saṃbandhaḥ śrutyaiva prāpyeteti sāmānyaśāstrasya bādhāprasaktervikalpaḥ prāpyeta, yadātvetadadhikaraṇasiddhāntayukttyā juhoterhematvajātivācitvenākṣepādvyaktibhānaṃ, tadā sāmānyaśāstreṇa sādhāraṇyenākṣepāt vyaktibhānepi yāvaddūrasthā padahomavyaktereva "pade juhotī" tyatra juhotinā sāhityākṣepātsāmānyaśāstrabādhānna vikalpaḥ iti; tathāpi "yūpaṃ chinattī"tyādau lokaprasiddhacchedanādipadasamabhivyāhāreṇa yūpapadaśaktigrahepyanyatra vede śaktigrahopāyābhāvāt naitatprayojanaṃ saṃbhavatītyekatve śabdānāṃ sādhite etaccintāphalamiti bhāvaḥ //
(āhavanīyapadavākyayoḥ sāvakāśaniravakāśanyāyaviṣayatvopapādanena vyaktivācitve 'pyupapattinirūpaṇenoktacintāprayojanāntaranirūpaṇam) yadyapi etadāhavanīyabādhābādharūpaṃ prayojanamākare 'bhihitam; tathāpi anyatra vyaktivācitvapakṣe 'pi "yat kiñcitprācīnamagnīṣomīyāttenopāṃśu carantī"ti vākyena sarvanāmopasthāpitatahyaktiviśeṣe vihitasyāpyupāṃśutvasya "mandraṃ prāyaṇīyāyāmi"ti vihitamandrasvareṇa niravakāśatayā bādhasyevehāpi sāvakāśaniravakāśanyāyena tadbādhasiddherayuktamiti kaustubhe draṣṭavyam //
ataeva prayojanāntaraṃ svayaṃ vakṣyate

(ekatvetu itituśabdaprayojanam) nanvekatve 'pi phalopāyayorvedalokaviṣayatayā bhinnaviṣayatvādekāṅgavaikalyāparihāra ityāśaṅkā loke tattatpuruṣagatoccāraṇabhedavadvede 'pi uccāraṇamātrasya bhede 'pi śabdasvarūpabhedābhāvādayukteti tuśabdena sūcitam /
pūrvapakṣamāha --- tatreti //
(varṇābhede 'pi svarādibhedāt padabhedanirūpaṇam) nanu --- tarkapāde "saṃkhyābhāvādi"ti sūtre balavatpratyabhijñānādeva gakārādiśabdabhedaḥ sādhitaḥ, tenaiva tadghaṭitapadābhedo 'pi siddha evetyāśaṅkāṃ jarā rājetyādau varṇābhedasya vidyamānatve 'pi tadabhedāprayojakatvena nirasitumabhyupetyavādena varṇābhedepītyuktam /
tataśca tatra yathā dharmabheda eva padabhedaprayojakaḥ, tathehāpītyarthaḥ /
dharmabhedameva darśayati --- svara iti //
vaidikeṣu niyataḥ svaraḥ /
"devāsa" ityādau chāndaso varṇāgamaḥ /
"tmanādeve"ṣvityādau ātmanetyākāralopaḥ /
"udgrābhaṃ ca nigrābhaṃ ce"tyādau hakārasya bhakārarūpo vikāraḥ /
chāndogyabahvṛcabrāhmaṇayoḥ svarābhāvāt gavādiśabdeṣu cāgamābhāvāt vyāpakaṃ dharmabhedamāha --- anadhyāyādīti //
anadhyāyapadaṃ svādhyāyasyāpyupalakṣaṇam /
svādhyāyo nāma vihitakāle traivarṇikaiḥ upanītairadhyayanam /
anadhyayanaṃ ca niṣiddhakāle śūdrādibhiranupanītaiśca anadhyayanam vaidikeṣu na laukikeṣviti dharmabheda ityarthaḥ /
yadyapi pāṇininā veda iva loke 'pi svarānuśāsanaṃ kṛtam; tathāpi śiṣṭairloke svaraniyamasyānādarādvacantīvāprayogādeva svaraniyamo 'nāvaśyaka iti dhyeyam /
ādipadena guruśuśrūṣopāsābhivādanādeḥ saṃgrahaḥ /
padānyatve saṃjñādhikaraṇanyāyenārthabhedasyotsargataḥ prāptimabhipretyapadānyatvamātramupasaṃharati --- padānāmanyatvamiti //
(padāvadhāraṇopāyānitivārtikārthānusaṃdhānena siddhāntopakramanirūpaṇam) atra ca siddhānte nārthābhedatadbhedau yadyapi padābhedatadbhedaprayojakatvenābhimatau; śākhāntaravākyayorarthābhede 'pi bhedāt, akṣādipader'thabhede 'pi padabhedābhāvāt, ator'thabhedapratītyanukūlo yatra dharmabhedaḥ tatra padabheda iti kathanasya nopayogaḥ; tathāpi siddhānte pratyabhijñānāpratyabhijñānayoreva bhedābhedayormukhyahetutvam /
tatparicāyakatayā prāyikatvena arthābhedatadbhedāvupayujyete, tatpratipattistu dharmabhedādityabhipretya padabhedaprayojakaṃ darśayituṃ "padāvadhāramopāyān bahūnicchanti sūrayaḥ /
kramanyūnātiriktatvasvaravākyaśrutismṛtīr"iti vākyādhikaraṇagatakārikārthamāha
--- yatreti //
(krameṇa tadudāharaṇanirdeśaḥ) krameṇodāharaṇāni darśayati --- yatheti //
vilakṣaṇānupūrvīrūpakramādityarthaḥ /
sthūlapṛṣatīmityatreti //
atra samāsabhedenārthadvayasaṃdehe svararūpadharmabhedenārthabhedaniścayāt padabhedaḥ //
(sthūlapṛṣatītyatra svarabhedādarthabhedastataḥ padabhedasya ca nirūpaṇam) tathāhi --- "sthūlapṛṣatīmanaḍvāhīmālabheta" ityatra karmadhārayapakṣe ata ityanuvartamāne "samāsasye"tyanena sūtreṇautsargikāntodāttatve vihite "anudāttaṃ padamekavarjami"ti sūtreṇa pūrveṣāṃ caturṇāmanudāttaḥ syāt, tadānīṃ ca pṛṣatīśabdena matvarthalakṣaṇayā tatraiva bindumattvānvayavat sthūlatvasyāpi tatraivānvayāt sthūlā bindumatī ca gauḥ yāgasādhanamityarthaḥ sidhyati /
bahuvrīhau tu "bahuvrīhau prakṛtyā pūrvapada"miti sūtrāntareṇa viśeṣasūtreṇa sāmānyavihitāntodāttatvabādhena pūrvapadasya prakṛtisvaravidhānāt sthūlaśabdagatalakārottarayakāre udāttasvarasya prāpteḥ sthaulyasya pṛṣatsvevānvayāt sthūlabindumatī svataḥ sthūlā vā gauryāgasādhanamiti arthassidhyatīti sandehe lakārottarākārodāttatvapāṭhāt bahuvrīhyanusārisvareṇa arthabhedaniścayātpadabheda ityarthaḥ //
(karmadhārayapakṣe prākṛtachāgajātibādhaprayojananirūpaṇaparaprakāśakārakhaṇḍanam) yattu --- atra prakāśakāraiḥ karmadhārayapakṣe prākṛtacchāgajātibādhaḥ, bahuvrīhipakṣe sthalabindumattārūpaguṇamātravidhānānna tadbādha iti prayojanabhedo 'pyuktaḥ /
sa sthūlapṛṣatīmanaḍvāhīmityevaṃ anaḍvāhīpadayuktasyaiva vākyasya mahābhāṣye nyāyasudhāyāṃ ca pāṭhāt ubhayapakṣe 'pyanaḍvāhīvidhānāvaśyakatvena chāgajātibādhopapatteḥ ayukta iti kaustubhe vyaktam //
(vākyāt padabhedodāharaṇam) vākyāditi //
dehītipadasamabhivyāhārādādyavākyena caturthyantanāmapadatvanirṇayaḥ /
uttaratra bhojanārthamitipadasamabhivyāhārāt tiṅantapadanirṇayastena tatra samabhivyāhārarūpadharmabhedena arthabhedāt padabheda ityarthaḥ //
(śrutipadārthanirūpaṇapūrvakatadudāharaṇanirdeśaḥ) nyāyasudhākāradarśitaṃ śrutipadasyārthamāha --- samānādhikaraṇeti //
yāti ityākhyātapadasāmānādhikaraṇyarūpa- dharmabhedena kartṛniṣṭhaprathamāntatvena nāmatvanirṇayenārthabhedātpadabhedaḥ /
evaṃ dvivacanāntadevadattayajñadattapadasāmānādhikaraṇyarūpa- dharmabhedena yāta ityākhyātaprathamapuruṣadvivacanāntatvanirṇayenārthabhedātpadabheda ityarthaḥ

(smṛtyā padabhedodāharaṇam) aśva iti //
aśvastvaṃ devadattetyatra ṭu o śvi gativṛddhyoriti śvidhātorluṅi "cliluṅi" iti cli "jṝstambhvi" tyādinā cleraṅādeśe "śvayatera" ityanenekārasyākārādeśe 'ḍāgame kṛte madhyamapuruṣaikavacananiścayasya vyākaraṇasmṛtyāvagateḥ aśvatvajātimadvācitvena lokato nirṇītāśvarūpārthāpekṣayā bhinnārthapratīteraśvavācakapadādbhedaḥ smṛtyetyarthaḥ /
yadyapi aśvastvaṃ devadattetyatra samānādhikaraṇapadasamabhivyāhārarūpaśrutyāpyaśvajātīyavācakāśvapadādbhedaḥ sidhyati; tathāpi tasya gauṇyā vṛttyāpyupapatteḥ madhyamapuruṣaikavacanāntatvena padabhedaniścayaḥ smṛtyadhīna eveti bhāvaḥ //
(lokavadayoḥ padabhedopāyābhāvanirūpaṇam) evaṃ padabhedāvagatyupāyān pradarśya tadvyatirekaṃ prakṛte darśayati --- devā devāsa ityādau dṛḍhatarapratyabhijñābādhakānāṃ pūrvoktānāmabhāve pratyabhijñābalāt na padānyatvamityarthaḥ /
upodghātamupasaṃharati

(niyogena vikalpenetyādivārtikādyuktānantapakṣaparityāgena śāstradīpikādṛtapakṣatrayaparityāgena ca jātivyaktipakṣadvayamātreṇopakrame nimittanirūpaṇam) tatra yadyapi "niyogena vikalpena dve vā saha samuccite /
saṃbandhaḥ samudāyo vā viśiṣṭā vaikayetarā /
gaurityuccārite sapta vastūni pratibhānti naḥ /
jātirvyaktiśca saṃbandhaḥ samūho liṅgakārake /
saṃkhyā ca saptamī teṣāmaṣṭapakṣīdvayordvayo" rityādinā vārtike 'neke pakṣā uktāḥ /
tatsakalamapi
"iha pakṣasahastrāṇāṃ militā saptaviṃśatiḥ /
śatāniṣaṭcatuṣṣaṣṭiścāparāvastusaptake" ityādinā nyāyasudhāyāṃ kṛtaṃ, tathāpi ākṛtiviśiṣṭavyaktivācitvapakṣanirāsenaiva teṣāṃ sunirasyatvādupādānāśakteśca śāstradīpikāyām ākṛtirvā vyaktirvā ākṛtiviśiṣṭavyaktirveti pakṣatrayaṃ prādhānyena darśitam /
tatra vyaktivācitvapakṣa evākṛtiviśiṣṭavyaktivācitvasaṃbhavasya svayamupapādanīyatvāt tṛtīyapakṣasyāpi vyarthatāṃ manvāno yathābhāṣyaṃ pakṣadvayameva pradhānamabhipretya yadarthamupodghātastadarthaṃ darśayan pūrvopanyastatvāt saṃśayamapradarśyaiva pūrvapakṣamārabhate

ataśca lāghavāt vyaktāveva śaktirjātiviśiṣṭavyaktau vā natu jātāveveti prāpte ---

ghaṭaśaktigrahatvena kāraṇatāyāṃ śakternaiyāyikamate riśvarecchārūpāyā mīmāṃsakamate padārthāntararūpāyā vā kāraṇatāghaṭakatvāttajjñānādeva viśiṣṭaśābdabodhodayaḥ iti vācyam, nacedamanubhavasiddham; tattvena jñānābhāve 'pi tathāvidhabodhasyānubhavasiddhatvāt, ato na svātantryeṇa kāraṇatvanityarthaḥ /

tathātvevā paṭavyaktāvapi ghaṭaśabdaprayogāpattiḥ, iti
--- cet, ghaṭatvasāmānyamupalakṣaṇīkṛtya yā evamākṛtikā gotvajātiviśiṣṭā sā gaurdevadattagauḥ ityukte devadattapadānabhidheyasyāpiśuklavastratvasya devadattapadaśaktigrahopalakṣaṇatvavadihāpi anabhidheyasyāpi gotvāderupalakṣaṇatvopapatteḥ //
(tuṣyaturdujananyāyena pakṣāntaradhāvanam) yadātvabhidheyasyaiva dharmitāvacchedakatvamiti niyamaḥ, tadā sandehakoṭāvanupanyastamapi vārtikoktatvātpakṣāntaramāha --- jātiviśiṣṭeti //
(vyaktiśaktivādasya śaktyānantyādidoṣaiḥ khaṇḍanam) na vyaktivācitvam; anantavyaktiśaktikalpanāpatteḥ /
ekaikavyaktigatajātirūpopalakṣaṇaikye 'pi saindhavādipade lavaṇāśvatvādinā śaktibhedasyevehāpi ghaṭatvasya śakyatāvacchedakatvābhāvena tattadvyaktitvasyaiva tadavacchedakatvena tadbhedasyānivāryatvāt /
athaikavyaktivācitvaṃ, tadāpi ghaṭatvasyātiprasaktatvena śakyatāvacchedakatvānupapatteḥ tadvyaktitvasyaiva śakyatāvacchedatvena tadvyaktiviṣayakasmaraṇābhāve ghaṭapadādanyavyaktibodhānāpattiḥ /
yadā tu pūrvoktavidhayā tadvyaktitvaṃ dharmitāvacchedakīkṛtya śakyatvasabandhena ghaṭapaṭhavattāniścayasya kāraṇatvaṃ kalpyate, yadyapi ca śaktyānantyam; tathāpi phalamukhatvānna doṣaḥ, tadā tadvyaktitvasya śakyatāvacchedakatvenaikavyaktiśaktigrahe 'pi śakteḥ saṃbandhavidhayā bhānāṅgīkārāttatvena rūpeṇāsmaraṇe 'pi kṣatyabhāvaḥ, tathā ghaṭatvasyātiprasaktasyāpi tadvyaktimātreṇa dharmitāvacchedakatvāṅgīkāro nānupapanna ityucyeta, tatrāha --- ghaṭatvam iti //

ato na ghaṭatvatvāvacchinnaṃ ghaṭatvaṃ śakyatvasaṃbandhena ghaṭapadavadityākārakaṃ jñānaṃ kāraṇaṃ, api tu ghaṭapadaṃ śaktatvasambandhena ghaṭatvavadityākārakameva; jāteḥ svarūpeṇaiva prakāratvopapattau ghaṭatvatvasyāpraveśāt /
naca samavāyenaiva jāteḥ svarūpeṇa prakāratā na saṃbandhāntareṇetyatra pramāṇamasti; parairapi tathānabhyugamācca /
ataśca kāryakāraṇabhāve 'pi lāghavāt ghaṭatva eva śaktiḥ /
śakyānantyādi ca nāsmanmate /
ataḥ prathamopasthitatvājjātāveva śaktiḥ /
evamaruṇādiśabdeṣvapi guṇa eva guṇatve vā, na tu tadviśiṣṭadravye /
kathaṃ tarhi vyaktibodhaḥ? abhedāt uktavidhakāraṇasya jātiguṇaviśiṣṭavyaktiśābdatva eva kāryatāvacchedakatvasvīkārādvopapatteḥ /
vastutastu --- jātiguṇaśabdatvameva lāghavena kāryatāvacchedakam /
vyaktistu tṛtīyāntasthale paśunā yajeta aruṇayā krīṇāti ityādau naiva padādbhāsate; jātiguṇayoreva dravyaparicchedadvārā karaṇatvopapatteḥ /
liṅgasaṃkhyayorapi pāśādhikaraṇanyāyena sāmānādhikaraṇyena pārṣṭhiko jātiguṇasaṃbandhaḥ /
ataḥ saṃbandhavidhayaiva tatra dravyabodhaḥ /
dvitīyāntādisthale tujātiguṇayoḥ karmatvādyanvayāsaṃbhavādvyakterlakṣaṇayā bodhaḥ, tasyā eva karmatvādyanvayaḥ /
liṅgasaṅkhyādyanvayaśca sākṣātsambandhenaiva, sāmānādhikaraṇyañca vyaktidvārakamiti sarvaṃ sustham /

prayojanaṃ pūrvapakṣe rathantarādiśabdānāṃ ṛgvācitvādrathantaramuttarayorgāyati ityādau uttarāpadalakṣitottarākārye yonividhānaṃ, siddhānte tu gītyatideśa uttarāsviti vakṣyate // 12 // iti śrīkhaṇḍadevaviracitāyāṃ bhāṭṭadīpikāyāṃ prathamasyādhyāyasya tṛtīyaḥ pādaḥ // 3 // <B2> (guṇe guṇatvevetipakṣadvayopapattiḥ) guṇaeveti //
yadā jagatītalavarttyaruṇaguṇopyeka eva, tadā guṇa eva yadāruṇaguṇānāṃ bhedaḥ, tadānekavṛttijāteḥ saṃbhavāt guṇatve vā śaktirityarthaḥ //
(jātivyaktyorabhedena vyaktibodhopapattyādikam) abhedāditi //
yathaiva hi paṭe paṭatvaṃ iha śuklatvamiti pratītyāyutasiddhayorbhedastathā ayaṃ gaurayaṃ śukla ityādipratītyābhedasyāpi tayossiddhiḥ /
nacaivaṃ vyaktyabhede jāteranityatāpattiḥ; jātyātmanā nityatve 'pi vyaktyātmanānityatvasyāsmākamapīṣṭatvāt /
ataśca ghaṭādipadānāṃ jātivācitve 'pi vyaktyabhedājjāterjātyaiva vyaktipratītisiddhiḥ /
nacaivamabhede vyakterapi vācyatāpatteradhikaraṇavaiyarthyam; vyaktervācyatve 'pi bhedābhedāṅgīkāreṇa na vyaktyātmanā tat, apitu jātyātmatmanetyetatpratipādanārthamadhikaraṇasārthakyāt /
tadetannyāyasudhāyāṃ mukhyatvenopapāditaṃ pakṣamavalaṃbyoktam
//
(jātiśaktijñānasyaiva jātyādiviśiṣṭaśābdatvaṅkāryatāvacchedakamitikalpāntaram) ye tu abhedāṅgīkāre 'pi śaktijñānarūpakāraṇasya jātiśābdabodhatvavat vyaktiśābdabodhatvasya pṛthakkāryatāvacchedakatvasvīkāre jātivyaktibodhasya ca kramikatvānanubhavāt kramikatvāṅgīkāre ca vaiśiṣṭyabodhābhāvena nirvikalpakarūpatāpatteḥ pūrvoktaghaṭatvavattājñānasya kāraṇasya ghaṭatvaviśiṣṭaśābdabodhatvaṃ kāryatāvacchedakamaṅgīkṛtyaivaṃ ekayaiva jātiśaktyorubhayorbodha iti vadanti, tanmatena pakṣāntaramāha --- uktavidheti //
(dvitīyakalpāsvarasanirūpaṇapūrvakasvamatāvataraṇam) asmiṃśca mate viśeṣyabhūtavyaktereva karaṇatvādidvārā kriyānvayāpattyā viśeṣaṇībhūtayorjātiguṇayostadanāpattiriti saptadaśaśarāve carau nirvāpe jaghanyamuṣṭilopena catussaṃkhyānugraho na sidhyet; jaghanyasyāpi pradhānatvena muṣṭyanugrahasyaiva nyāyyatvādityasvarasāt pakṣāntaraṃ svamatatvenāha --- vastutastviti //
(svamate vyaktibodhopapattiprakāraḥ, ekavacānteṣu bahuvacanādyanteṣuca) sāmānādhikaraṇyeneti //
karaṇatvopapatterityasyānuṣaṅgeṇa tadyojyam /
tathāca liṅgasaṃkhyayorapi samānapadopāttatvapratyāsattyā sāmānādhikaraṇyasaṃbandhena karaṇatva evānvayaḥ /
pārṣṭhiko jātiguṇasaṃbandha ityarthaḥ /
nanu --- vyaktiparicchedakatayā pratīyamānayorliṅgasaṃkhyayoranurodhena prātipadike vyaktilakṣaṇaivāstvityāśaṅkānirākaraṇāya pāśādhikaraṇanyāyenetyuktam /
tasyāyamarthaḥ //
yathā guṇabhūtabahutvānvayānurodhena mukhyabhūtapāśaprātipadikotkarṣo vikṛtau pāśamantre nāṅgīkṛtaḥ, tathānaiva lakṣaṇā yuktā --- iti /
yatra tu pārṣṭhiko 'pi dvitvabahutvānvayo jātau bādhitaḥ, tatrāgatyā lakṣitavyaktyaiva so 'ṅgīkriyatām /
prakṛte tu ekavacanānte yukta eva jātiguṇābhyāṃ sa iti bhāvaḥ //
(dvitīyāntādisthale lakṣaṇayā vyaktibodhopapādanam) dvitīyāntādisthaletviti //
ādipadena saṃpradānatvādikārakāntarasaṃgrahaḥ /
naca yugapadvṛttidvayavirodhaḥ; śakyārthasya padāntarārthānvayapramiteḥ prāgeva gaṅgāpadasya pravāhopasthityanantaraṃ lakṣaṇāvadihāpi tadaṅgīkāreṇa tasyāprasakteḥ /

ataeva --- anvayapramottaraṃ tasyaiva padasya vṛttyantareṇārthapratyāyakatva eva saḥ iti dhyeyam /
naca kramikabodhadvayāṅgīkaraṇe vaiśiṣṭyabodhābhāvena nirvikalpakarūpatvāpattiḥ;
iṣṭāpatteriti bhāvaḥ /
sāmānādhikaraṇyaṃ ceti //
liṅgasaṃkhyayoḥ samānābhidhānaśrutyā sāmānādhikaraṇyasaṃbandhenakarmatvādyanvaye sāmānādhikaraṇyamekavṛttitvena jñeyamityarthaḥ //
(jātiviśiṣṭavyaktivācyatvanirāsaḥ) evañca lakṣaṇayaiva gauḥ śukla ityādi sāmānādhikaraṇyānupapattiḥ pariharaṇīyeti draṣṭavyam /
ākṛtiviśiṣṭavyaktivācitvapakṣastvāvaśyake jātivācyatve vyaktivācitvasyāpi kalpanāyāṃ gauravāpattyā nirasanīyaḥ /
prayojanamiti //
ṛgvācitvapakṣe ṛco ṛgantare vidhānānupapattyottarāpadena kāryalakṣaṇayā tatsthānāpattyā vidhānaṃ pūrvapakṣe /
siddhānte tu gīteḥ ṛgantare 'pi saṃbhavānna lakṣaṇā kintu tasyātideśa iti yatsaptame vicārayiṣyate tadetadadhikaraṇaprayojanamityarthaḥ //
(prakāśakāranirūpitapūrvapakṣasiddhāntaprayojananirasanapūrvakasvābhimataprayojananirūpaṇam) yattu --- prakāśakāraiḥ "vrīhīn prokṣati" "dadhnā juhotī" tyādau pūrvapakṣe sarvavrīhihomavyaktīnāṃ abhidhānāt tatra śrutyā prokṣaṇadadhyāderviniyogāt prakaraṇasannidhibādhena laukikavrīhiṣvapi prokṣaṇaṃ homāntare ca dadhi syāt pūrvapakṣe, siddhānte tu śabdārthabhūtāyā vrīhitvahomatvajāteḥ prākṛtavrīhihomayorapi paryāptisattvāt prakaraṇasannidhyanugrahe 'pi na kācicchrutipīḍeti prakṛteṣveveti /
tat siddhānte 'pi prakṛtavrīhihomātiriktavyaktiṣvapi tajjātiparyāptisattvenānivāraṇāt sarvaiśca vyavahārāsaṃbhavenānarthakyaparihārārthaṃ prakaraṇādyālocanāvaśyakatvena tena prakṛtātiriktānāṃ nivāraṇavat pūrvapakṣe 'pi tatsaṃbhavena viśeṣābhāvāt dvitīyādisthale lakṣaṇayā sarvavyaktibhānasyopapādanīyatvena doṣatādavasthyāccāyuktamityupekṣitaṃ pūjyapādaiḥ
