iti śāstrārambhasūtreṇa pramāṇasvarūpasādhanaphalaiḥ sābhāsairvicarayiṣyamāṇaḥ sakalo dharmādharmaprameyarūpaḥ śāstrārthaḥ pratijñāto maharṣiṇā jaimininā /
(vivāre vaidhatvopapādanam) śāstrārambhamūlaṃ ca "svādhyāyo 'dhyetavyaḥ" (tai.ā.16) ityadhyayanavidhiḥ ; tatrādhyayanarūpakaraṇavidhānādvicāramantareṇa arthajñānānutpatteḥ vicārarūpetikartavyatānuṣṭhānākṣepeṇa tatkartavyatābodhanāt tasyāśrca tatpratipādakaśāstrābhāve '- saṃbhavāt śāstrārambhatadadhyayanakartavyatābodhanarūpaphalasyāpyarthato vidhānāt /

tyādisūtrārthanirūpaṇapūrvakaṃ svatantrameva prathamapādārthaṃ saṃgṛhṇantaḥ āditaḥ ṭippaṇamārabhyata iti pratijñāyāpi arthavādapādamārabhyaiva ṭippaṇamāracayantaśca śaṃbhubhaṭṭāḥ prathamapādavyākhyeyaṃ bhāṭṭadīpikāgranthaṃ khaṇḍadevācāryakṛtaṃ avidyamānamabhiprayanti /
tadatra maisūranagaramudrāpitabhāṭṭadīpikāpustake prathamapādabhāṭṭadīpikāpi prakāśitā yaddarīdṛśyate, yacca tadanusārīdānīntanānāṃ mānyamānyānāṃ mahāmahopādhyāyānāṃ śrīmatāṃ rāmasubrahmaṇyaśāstriṇāṃ bhāṭṭakalpatarunāmakaṃ ekaṃ prathamapādabhāṭṭadīpikāvyākhyānamapyupalabhyate, tatra svatantraṃ kenacanānyena kalpitā bhāṭṭadīpikaiva sā na khaṇḍadevācāryakṛtā seti bahavo manyante /
kalkattānagaramudrāpitabhāṭṭadīpikāpustake dvitīyapādata evārambho 'pi teṣāṃ matamupodbalayati /
mantrādhikaraṇaṃ niyamaparisaṃkhyādividhilakṣaṇādigranthoḥyaḥ kalkattānagaramudrāpitabhāṭṭadīpikāpustake upalabhyate, sa mākiṃ ekapuṭaparimitaḥ prācīnatālapatramayeṣvapi asmābhirupalabdheṣu mantrādhikaraṇa evopalabhyamānaḥ prathamapāde samuddhṛtya kenāpi prakāśita iti te varṇayanti /
tatra kiṃ prathamapādātsamuddhṛtya mantrādhikaraṇe ghaṭanaṃ, uta mantrādhikaraṇāt prathame pāde iti śaṅkā tu mantrādhikaraṇa eva pūrvatanānāṃ khaṇḍadevācāryapriyāntevāsināṃ śaṃbhubhaṭṭānāṃ teṣāṃ vivaraṇaṃ dṛśyate iti nātrāvasaraṃ labhate /
anyāni ca yāni dvitīyapādata ārabhyaiva khaṇḍadevācāryaiḥ bhāṭṭadīpikā viracitā, prathamapādasya tu tatastataḥ khaṇḍadevācāryavākyagrahaṇena svatantrameva kasyakasyāpi vākyasya racanayā ca kenāpyadhunātanena pūrvatanena vā kalpitānyaiveyaṃ maisūranagaramudrāpitā prathamapādabhāṭṭadīpiketyatra nimittāni teṣāmabhimatāni, tāni asyaiva pustakasya prakāśayiṣyamāṇasya bhūmikāyāṃ sūcayiṣyāma iti vistarabhayāduparamyate /
<B2> (adhyayanānantaryavivakṣāyā gurukulanivṛttimātrabādhaphalakatvam) tataśrca sāṅgavedādhyanena vicāraśāstrādhyayanapūrvakānuṣṭhānopayogidharmādharmaparicchedarūpapadārthajñānaphalaṃ sādhyedityarthakādhyayanavidheḥ kḷptadṛṣṭārthatvanirvāhāya adhdhnāvyavadhānarūpānarntayamapi vicārasya siddhyati /
etatparyantamapi tātparyakalpanāyāḥ "adhītya snāyādi" ti smṛtibādhaḥ phalam, itarathā adhyayanānantaraṃ samāvartanamātrānuṣṭhāne 'dhyayanavidhibodhitādhyayanasyādṛṣṭārthatvāpatteḥ /
yadyapi vā snānaniyatanivṛttirūpasnānopalakṣitasakabrahmacāridharmanivṛtteradhyayanānantarye smṛtyā pratipādyate ; tathāpi gurukulanivṛttyaṃśa eva tadbādhaḥ, tasyaiva vicāravirodhitvāt /
taduktaṃ vārtike - "snānopalakṣitā chātranivṛttirguruveśmanaḥ /
virodhitvena bādhyeta natu madhvādibhakṣaṇam //
tasmādgurukul.e tiṣṭhenmadhumāṃsādyavarjayan /
jijñāsetāviruddhatvāddharmamityavagamyate" iti //
(adhyayanānantaraṃ samāvartanopapādanam tatra prayogakārāṇāṃ vicārānantarameva samāvartanamiti siddhāntakhaṇḍanaṃ ca)
tathāca sāṅgavedādhyayanānantaramapi gurukulaṃ vasataivetarabrahmacāridharmanivṛttirūpasamāvartane kṛte 'pi dharmādharmarūpavicāraśāstrādhyayanaṃ kāryam, natu gurukulavāsasyāpi nivṛttyādhyayanānantaraṃ sarvatyāga ityarthe 'viruddhe sati yatprayogakārakṛtā- "adhītya snāyādi" ti smṛtiradhyayanavidheḥ dṛṣṭārthāvabodhaphalakatve saṃbhavati svargakalpanānupapatteḥ samāvartane adhyayananānantaryakramasya vidhātumaśakyatvādadhyayane snānnapūrvakālamātreṇopapannā ; itarathā "vedamanūcyācāryo 'ntevāsinamanuśāsti" ityādinā 'tathā teṣu vartethāḥ' ityantena granthena taittirīye vedādhyayanānte vedārthetikartavyatopadeśānupapatteḥ /
ato 'dhyayanānantaraṃ dharmajijñāsaivocitā na snānam - ityuktam, tadapāstam ; samāvartanānantarameva kriyamāṇasya śāstravicārasya adyāvadhi śiṣṭasaṃpradāyasiddhasyāpalāpaprasaṅgāt, upanayanādhyayanabrahmacaryādiniyamavidhibalādevādhyayanasya snānapūrvakālatvasiddhau sarvabrahmacāridharmāṇāṃ madhye adhyayanarūpakarmānantaryasya samāvartane kathamapyaprāptasya vidhānābhāvena 'adhītya snāyāditi' smṛtivaiyarthyaprasaṅgācca, adhyayanavidhidṛṣṭārthatvānurodhena kalpyamānasyādhyayanadharmavicārayoḥ parasparānantaryasya vedādhyayanasamāptidina eva samāvartanānantaraṃ śāstrārambhe 'pi dṛṣṭārthatvāhanirupapannatvenādhyayanasnānayoḥ kramabādhe pramāṇābhāvācca, tavāpi vedādhyayanasamāptyanantaraṃ viśiṣṭagurvādyalābhe vyavadhānasaṃbhavādāvaśyakagaṇapatyādipūjanenāvyavadhāne bādhasyāvaśyakatvenāvyavahitatvā- aṃśatyāgenānantaryamātrabodhasyaiva viruddhavyāpārāntaranivṛttitātparyakatayā varṇanīyatvenāviruddhasamāvartanānuṣṭhāne tadbādhābhāvāt, pratyuta bhikṣācaryādervicāravirodhitvena tannivṛttestadupakārakatvācca /
ataeva bādhakasatve 'vyavahitatvāṃśatyāgenādhyayanahetutvāsaṃbhavamabhipretyāthaśabdabalādeva snānavidhibādhaḥ prakāśakāraiḥ śrutipadādyadhikaraṇe sādhitaḥ /
tasmāt yena vinādhyayanavidhervicāretikartavyatākārthajñānarūpadṛṣṭaphalahānistāvanmātrameva snānavidhyuktaṃ bādhanīyam /
tacca gurukulavāsanivṛttirūpaṃ vicāravirodhīti tadevādhyayanānantarye vidadhatā vidhinā bādhyate, natu tadatiriktaṃ vidhinā vihitaṃ padārthatayā'camanādivat prabalaṃ snānamātramapītyeva kalpanaṃ nirastadoṣaṃ sādhu /
tamimamadhyayanavidhinā śrutyarthābhyāṃ siddhamarthe mūlīkṛtyaiva maharṣiṇā 'athāto dharmajijñāsā' iti sūtreṇārabdhaṃ śāstram //
(jijñāsāsūtrārthavarṇanam) sūtrārthastu - atha sāṅgavedādhyayanānantaram /
yatastanmātreṇa vicāramantarā tatphalamanuṣṭhānopayogiparicchedarūpaṃ dharmādharmarūpārthajñānaṃ na jāyate, ataḥ adhyayanasyārthajñānarūpadṛṣṭaprayojanakatvāddhetoḥ tādṛśadharmādharmajñānecchajña kartavyā, icchāviṣayastādṛśajñānaṃ kartavyam
iti yāvat /
vicāraṃ cāntareṇa tatkartavyatānupapatteḥ pramāṇasvarūpasādhanaphalaiḥ tadvicāraḥ kartavya ityartha iti //
(dharmāya jijñāseti tādarthyavivakṣāprayojananirūpaṇena dharmajijñāsetyatra ṣaṣṭhīsamāsapratiṣṭhāpanam) atraca dharmajijñāseti pade dharmāya jijñāseti tādarthyākhyasaṃbandhaviśeṣaparatayā ṣaṣṭhī vyākhyātā bhāṣyakārādibhiḥ /
tatra viṣayitvārthakaṣaṣṭhīparatāṃ vihāya tādarthyaparatvavyākhyāne prayojanaṃ vicārasya dharmānuṣṭhānopayogitvajñāpanameva /
tathāca dharmānuṣṭhānāyāyaṃ vicāraḥ kartavya iti cārthikam, natu tādarthyacaturthīsamāsapradarśanaparam ; vārtikakāramate kadācidaśrvaghāsādipade iva tatsaṃbhave 'pi mahābhāṣyakāreṇa tanmatapratyākhyāne aśrvaghāsādiśabde 'pi ṣaṣṭhīsamāsāśrayaṇātṛ tadvadevehāpi tadaucityāt /
ataeva - bhaṭṭapādaiḥ dharmāya jijñāseti bhāṣyakāravacanaṃ ṣaṣṭhīsamāsalabdhārthikārthapradarśanaparam, natu vigrahapradarśanaparam ; tasya jñātumicchediti nigamavākye ṣaṣṭhīsamāsavibhāvanāt iti - vyākhyātam /
ataḥ ṣaṣṭhīsamāsa eva yukta iti dhyeyam //
(jijñāsāpadārtha.ḥ) jijñāsāpade ca vicāralakṣaṇā /
athavā - vicārakartavyatāyā arthādeva siddheḥ śrutipadādyadhikaraṇe vārtikoktarītyā naiva lakṣaṇā, kintu yathāśrutaparameveti dhyeyam //

idaṃ ca sūtraṃ adhyayanavidhyarthasiddhādhyayanānantarye vicāre athaśabdena bodhyat tasya śrautakramasidyartham ; yatra hi pāṭhādeva hṛdayādyavadānānāmānantaryakramasiddhiḥ, tatrāthaśabdasyānuvādyatve 'pi pramāṇāntarāvadhṛtayoḥ padārthayorvidhinā vidhānābhāve 'thaśabdasyānantaryarūpakramavidhāyatavena prakṛte 'pi svādhyāyavidhinādhyayanasya vicārasya ca karmānuṣṭhānopayogitvena prāptatvāt sūtrasthāthaśabdena kramamātravidhiparatvapratīteḥ /
sūcitaṃ cedaṃ pañcame vārtikatantraratrayoḥ

(keṣāñcinmatena vedārtho dharmapadārtha iti vivecanena smṛtyādivicārasyāpi pratijñāviṣayatvopapādanam) atra ca - vedārthajñānārthameva vedādhyayanānantaraṃ vicārakartavyatokteḥ vedārthatvenaiva vedārtho jijñāsyaḥ, natu dharmatvena, sūtrasthaṃ dharmapadaṃ vedārthamātraparamiti - kecidāhuḥ //
naca - asmin mate vedādhyayanasya vedārthavicārahetutve 'pi na smṛtyādyarthavicārahetutvaṃ yathā, tathā svādhyāyapadopāttaikaśākhadhyayanasyāpi na śākhāntarārthavicārahetutvaṃ saṃbhavatīti kathamadhyayanasya kṛtsnavedārthavicārahetutvam ? iti - vācyam ; adhyayanavidhervicārākṣepakatvavadekaśākhāprayogavidhyarthanirṇayasya śākhāntarīyāṅgatvabodhakavākyavicāradhīnatvena tadvicārākṣepaparyantaphalakatavāṅgīkāreṇa taddhetutvopatteḥ /
ata eva śrautānāmiva smārtācāraprāptāṅgānāmapyācaraṇaṃ kurvatāṃ prayogavidhīnāmarthajñānanirṇayāya adhyayanavidhinā smṛtyādivicāro 'pyanuṣṭhāpyata iti tasyāpi pratijñāviṣayatvaṃ yuktameva /
ato yuktaiva vedārthatvena tasya vicāraviṣayatā - iti //
(svasiddhāntena dharmapadārthavivecanādikam) vastutastu - vedārthavicārasya pravṛttinivṛttyupayogābhāve niṣprayojanatvālloke ca prekṣāvatāṃ sukhaprāptiduḥkhanivṛttyarthināṃ tajjanakadharmādharmāṇāṃ ca kṣaṇānācaraṇādarśanāt tatvena tadvicāra eva kartavyatavenopadiśyate iti yuktam ; ataeva smārtācāraprāptadharmavicāro 'pi agre kariṣyamāṇo nāsaṅgato bhavati /
naca - athaśabdena vedādhyayanānantaryokteḥ sa eva mukhyaḥ, anyastu prasaṅgata iti - yuktam ; athaśabdasya pūrvavṛttāpekṣaṇe 'pi smṛtyadhyayanāpekṣayāpyupapatteḥ vedādhyayanānantaryavācitve mānābhāvāt /
ataeva sūtre dharmajijñāsetyeva pratijñātam /
yadyapi ca na kṛtsnavedādhyayanasya dharmādharmavicārahetutvam, upaniṣadadhyayanasya taddhetutvābhāvāt ; tathāpi cikīrṣitavicāraikadeśe hetutvenāpyānantarye upapadyate eveti na bādhakam

(dharmapadasyādharmādyupalakṣaṇatvam) setreca yadyapi dharmajijñāsetyevoktam ; tathāpi dharmapatipādakavedādhyayanasya dharmavicāraprayojanaṃ vinā niṣphalatavāpattyā dharmavicārahetutvāt kṛtsnavedāntargataniṣedhādhyayanarūpakāraṇopalakṣaṇatve dharmapadamadharmādīnāmapyupalakṣaṇaṃ draṣṭavyam /
itarathā dharmamātrasyaiva vicāraviṣayatve vidhisannihitārthavādādīnāṃ vidhyekavākyatayā dharmavicāropayogitvasaṃbhavena tadadhyayanasya dṛṣṭārthatvasyeva niṣedhābhyanujñādyabhāve tadadhyayanasyādṛṣṭārthatvasyevāpatteḥ /
upalakṣakadharmaśabdasyeva sādhāraṇyena prayoge prayojanaṃ tu bahuviṣayasaṃkṣepatayā āvaśyakatvaṃ dharmavicārasyeti jñāpanameva /
abhyanujñāvidhiviṣayaḥ kvaciddharmādharmavyatirekapradarśanārthe vicāraryemāṇo 'pi nāsaṅgata ityeva yuktam /
ataeva jijñāsā sūtre pratijñā, tatra pramāṇamātranirūpaṇasya prathamādhyāyārthatvaṃ, dvādaśādhyāyānāṃ ca jijñāsāsūtraparikaratvaṃ cābhipretya 'so 'rodī' ditayādiniṣedhārthavādānāṃ prathamādhyāye 'dharmaprāmāṇyavicāraḥ, ṣaṣṭhādhyāyādau ca 'na kalañjaṃ bhakṣayet' ityādivākyārthādharmavicāro 'pi kṛto nāsaṃgataḥ /
etadabhiprāyeṇaiva tatra dvādaśalakṣaṇyāṃ dharmādharmau jaimininā vicāritau ityuktam - pūjyapādairbhāṭṭarahasye //
(adharmajijñāsetyakārapraśrleṣakhaṇḍanamaṇḍane) yattu - adharmavicārasyāthasūtrapratijñāviṣayatvopapattaye adharmajijñāsetyakārapraśrleṣaḥ śāstradīpīkāyāmetatsūtravyākhyāne kṛtaḥ, sa vākyāvṛttidoṣāpatterayuktaḥ ; vākyāvṛttirūpavākyadoṣāpekṣayā padagatalakṣaṇāṅgīkārasya 'jātaputraḥ kṛṣṇakeśa' ityādyādhānavākye sarvairapyuktatvācca //
astu vā sūtre vākyāvṛtteralaṅkārarūpatvenāduṣṭatvādakārapraśrleṣeṇādharmasyāpi tadviṣayatvam /

(dharmapratispardhitayādharmasya vicāryatvamitibhāṭṭālaṅkāramatakhaṇḍanam) yadapi - bhāṭṭālaṅkārakṛtā adharmasya kvaciddharmapratispardhitayā nirūpaṇīyatve 'pi śāstraviṣayatvaṃ dharmasyaiva - ityuktam, tadvidhisannihitapaṭhitānāṃ 'vāyurvai kṣepiṣṭhe' tyarthavādānāṃ yathā dharmapramāṇyavicāraḥ, tathaiva niṣedhasannidhipaṭhitānāṃ so 'rodīdityādīnāmadharmapramāṇyavicārasyāpi bhāṣyakārādibhi; pradarśitatvāt pratispardhitvasya durvacatvāccāyuktam /
nahyabhede bhedābhāvarūpatayā bhedapratispardhitatvasyevādharme dharmābhāvarūpatayā tadyujyate ; tathātve bhojanādau dharmatvābhāvena adharmatvāpatteḥ, tasmāddharmādharmau tulyatayaiva prathamasūtre pratijñātau svarūpapramāṇaphalaiḥ sābhāsairuttaratra śāstre vicāryete ityeva samyak //
(dharmo yāgādiriti nirūpaṇam) dharmādharmapadasya kāṇādamate yadyapyapūrvābhidhāyitvam ; 'dharmaḥ kṣarati kīrtanāt' ityādāvapi tathaiva vyavahāradarśanāt, tathāca yadyapi apūrvasya pratyadhyāyaṃ vicārābhāvena na śāstrapratijñāviṣayatvaṃ tadvicārasya yujyate; tathāpi yāgādikarma kurvati tatrāpūrvajñānaśūnyairapi dhārmikapadaprayogāt ' dharme cara' iti śrutau bhagavatādiṣu ca 'dharmastvanuṣṭhitaḥ puṃsāṃ viṣvaksenakathāsu yaḥ /
notpādayedyadi ratiṃ śrama eva hi kevalam' ityādau 'ijyācāradayāhiṃsādānasvādhyāyakarmaṇām /
ayaṃ tu paramo dharmo yadyogenātmadarśanam' iti smṛtau 'eṣāṃ madhye 'yaṃ paramo brāhmaṇa' ityatra ṣaṣṭhyantapadanirdiṣṭānāṃ brāhmaṇatvavadijyādīnāṃ dharmatvapratīteradṛṣṭe cavihitaniṣiddharmādharmarūpapadārthajanyatvasaṃbandhena lakṣaṇayāpi prayogopapatternādṛṣṭavāci dharmādharmapadam, apitu tajjanakavihitāniṣiddhakriyāguṇadravyādiṣveva śaktamiti kriyādirūpameva vicārapratijñāviṣayaḥ prādhānyena /

ataeva codanānirdiṣṭo yaḥ pramāṇaparigrahaḥ saprakāraḥ sa ādyena lakṣaṇena prapañcita iti bṛhaṭṭīkāyām /
'siddhapramāṇabhāvasya dharme vedasya sarvaśaḥ /
vidhyarthavādamantrāṇāmupayogo 'dhunocyate' iti vārtike 'pi tathaiva dṛśyate /
tena codanaiva pramāṇamiti niyame 'pi arthavādapramāṇanirūpaṇamagre nāsaṃgatamiti - manyante, teṣāṃ matarītyā dharmādharmalakṣaṇe vedasyaiva pramāṇatvena niveśaḥ susthira eva /
ato mantrārthavādādikalpyavidhividheye vedapramāṇakatvāddharmatvalābhaḥ

(codanāyāḥ sādhyasādhanetikartavyatābodhakapadasamudāyaparatvamiti pārthasārathimiśramatanirūpaṇam) yeṣāṃ tu mate - jijñāsāsūtre dharmādharmaviṣayapramāṇamātre pratijñāte 'pi 'codanāsūtre codanā copadeśaśrca vidhiśrcaikārthavācinaḥ' iti pramāṇatvamiha prasiddhamuktevaha dharme prati codanāyā ityādyanekabhāṣyavārtikasvārasyāt avayavavyutpattivaśācca vidhyuddeśāparaparyāyasādhyādiviśiṣṭakriyāpratipādakapadasamūhātmakavākyaparatvameva, saiva pramāṇamityeva ca niyamaḥ, pravartakatvaparyāptyadhikaraṇamantrārthavādanāmadheyopetavidhivākyavācitve kathañcidarthavādanirūpaṇasyādyalakṣaṇasaṃgatatve 'pi tadbahirbhūtasmṛtyādivicārasyāsaṅgatatvāpatteḥ /
naca tavāpi codanātiriktasyāpi pramāṇasya nirūpaṇena codanaiveti niyamavyākopaḥ ; niyamānāṃ tulyakakṣyavyudāsaphalatvaprasiddherarthavādasmṛtyādīnāṃ ca taccheṣatvena tanmūlatvena ca pramāṇasya codanātulyakatvābhāvāt /
ataeva iti kartavyatāsthānīyasyārthavādasmṛtyādeḥ codanaprāmāṇyapratijñayaiva prāmāṇyasya pratijñātatvātsamastasyādyalakṣaṇasya codanāsūtraparikaratvamācāryairuktam 'codanāsūtranirdiṣṭo ya' ityādinā /
tacca praśastatvādemantropakṛtenānena kamraṇā svargādi sādhayedityevaṃrūpāyāṃ dharmapramāyāṃ codanayā janyamānāyāṃ padārthasmārakatayā nāmadheyānāṃ karaṇaviśeṣanirdhārakatayā sahakāribhūtānāṃ smṛtyādīnāṃ copasthāpakatayā codanāprāmāṇyapratijñāviṣayatvaṃ parigrahaśabdopādānātpratīyateṃ nahyetāvatā codanāprāmāṇyapratipādanameva ; anupapatteḥ /
saṃbhāvitamātrasya tu tathātve sarvasmin adhyāye tasyaiva karaṇāt prabhṛttinivṛttisadbhāvāt sa upapadyate / tasmāt jijñāsāsūtre yāvaddharmādharmapramāṇajātamupakṣiptaṃ, tatra tryaṃśabhāvanāviṣayapravartanāpratipādakapadasamudāyamātravacanaṃ codanāśabdamaṅgīkṛtya tasyaiva pradhānabhūtasya dharmādharmaprāmāṇyaṃ codanāsūtre pratijñātaṃ, tadeva prathamapāde kātsnaryena nirūpitam /
codanātiriktānāmarthavādīnāṃ vedabhāgādīnāṃ smṛtyādīnāṃ cāpradhānabhūtānāmapauruṣeyavedatulyatvātparigrahadāḍhyārcca saṃbhāvitatvāt jijñāsitaṃ prathamasūtrapratijñātaṃ prāmāṇyaṃ nirūpyate prasaṃgeneti pārthasārathimiśrābhipretameva yuktam - iti //
(uktamatakhaṇḍanena pūrvoktamatavyavasthāpanam) teṣāṃ mate vidhyuddeśāparaparyāyarūpeva codanā tallakṣaṇaghaṭikā /
ataeva vidhitātparyaviṣayībhūteṣṭasādhanātākatvamityādyeva tallakṣaṇaṃ sādhanikaiḥ kriyate /
tathāpi laukikacodanāviṣayībhūteṣṭasādhanatāke 'tivyāptivāraṇāya avaśyopādīyamāne vaidikapade lāghavādvidhipadaṃ vihāya vedapadameva kevalaṃ dātumucitam /
yadyapi vā laukikaliṅādiprayoge 'jñātajñāpakatavābhāvāt na vidhitvamiti vidhipadenaiva tadvāraṇam ; tathāpi mantrārthavādamūlakeṣṭasādhanatābodhaviṣaye arthavādānāmeva pramāṇatvāt tatsādhāraṇyalābhāya vedapadameva praveśanīyamityabhipretya vedaghaṭitameva lakṣaṇaṃ pūjyapādairbhāṭṭarahasye uktam - vedabodhitaśreyaḥ sādhanatākatvaṃ dharmatvam - vedabodhitāniṣṭasādhanatākatvamadharmatvam - iti

(dalaprayojananirūpaṇapūrvakaṃ bhāṭṭarahasyoktadharmalakṣaṇasya lakṣyeṣu samanvayaḥ) asti cedaṃ jyotiṣṭomakalañjalabhakṣaṇādau ; tayoriṣṭāniṣṭasādhanatvasya vedabodhitatvāt /
vedabodhitatvaṃ brahmasvarganarakādāvapi ityuttaradalam ; teṣāmiṣṭaniṣṭarūpatavena tatsādhanatvābhāvāt /
annaviṣabhakṣaṇādau tṛptimaraṇarūpeṣāniṣṭasādhanatavasatavāttadvāraṇāyādyam; tatsādhanatvasya lokata evāvagatatvāt /
vedabodhitatvaṃ ca vedajanyājñātajñānarūpabādhipratītiviṣayatvaṃ, tenā 'gnirhimasya bheṣajam' 'tarati śokamātmavit' ityādivākyajanyaśokaśabdavācyāvidyānivṛttisādhane ātmajñāne himanivṛttijanake cāgnau nātivyāptiḥ ; tatsādhanatvasya pramāṇāntarajñātatvāt /
etādṛśājñātajñāpanatvalābhārthameva vedabodhitatvaṃ vedātiriktapramāṇena svātantreṇābodhyatve sati vedabodhyatvamityādinā tatraiva vivṛtaṃ pujyapādeḥ /
ataeva ajñātatvamapi svānupajīvimānāntarakṛtaṃ draṣṭavyam /
tena pratyakṣadṛṣṭaśrutimūlakasmṛtyādibodhyeṣṭasādhanatāke nāvyāptiḥ, āpātapratipanneṣṭāniṣṭasādhanatvasyāpi vedabodhitatvāt tatrātivyāptivāraṇāyābādhiteti /
vedapadaṃ ca na pārāyaṇavidhāviva mantrabrāhmaṇagranthaparam ; asaṃbhavāpatteḥ, nāpi tadantargatavākyābhiprāyam ; liṅgādikalyāśrutavākayapratipādye tadanāpatteḥ , apitvapauruṣeyavākyaparam /
naca - brāhmaṇo 'pi jagatkāraṇatvena śreyaḥ sādhanatvāt tasya ca 'yatove' tyādivedaikagamyatavena tatrāpūrvalakṣaṇasyātivyāptiriti - vācyam ; lakṣaṇe tacchreyastavāvacchinnakāryatānirūpitakāraṇatāśālitvasya vivakṣitatvāt /
śreyaḥ padaṃ cātra svayaṃprathitaphalaparam, ato na krūtūpakāraphalamādāya prayājādyaṅgeṣu homādinivṛttiphalamādāya dravyadevatādau cātivyāptiḥ /
'nānṛtaṃ vadet' iti kratuprakaraṇagataniṣedhena narakarūpāniṣṭajanakatvābodhe 'pi kratuvaiguṇyajanakatvabodhamātreṇāpi anṛtavadanādāvadharmatvamupapadyata iti na tatrāvyāptiḥ /
aṅgeṣu dharmatvābhāvavyavahāraśrca bhāṣye ko dharmaḥ ? kāni sādhanāni ? iti svarūpajijñāsataḥ pṛthaksādhanajijñāsayā spaṣṭaṃ pratīyate /
vājapeyānuṣṭhānaṃ jānatāṃ tadanuṣṭhātari dhārmiko 'yamiti vyavahārastu pradhānabhūtavājapeyadharmatvasya sādhane upacārāt, vājapeyānuṣṭhānamajānatāṃ tadekadeśānuṣṭhātari tadyavahārastu vihitakriyātvasādṛśyāllākṣaṇikaeva; avayavini prayujyamānasya śabdasyāvayave 'pi loke bahuśaḥ prayogadarśanāt /
vivāhārthānṛtavadanavidhinā ca niṣedhātikramanimittidoṣājanakatvamātrameva bodhyate, natviṣṭajanakatvamiti dharmalakṣaṇābhāvānna tatrātiprasaṅgaḥ /
'nātirātre ṣoḍaśinaṃ gṛhṇāti' iti niṣedhena ca grahaṇavidhyavirodhāyāniṣṭasādhanatavānākṣepādetada bhāve 'pītarāṅgaiḥ ṛtūpakārasiddherevākṣepānna ṣoḍaśigrahaṇasya niṣedhyatve 'pyadharmatvam //
(ātmajñānadharmatvasamarthanam) yadvā - 'ityācāradayāhiṃsādānasvādhyāyakarmaṇāt /
ayaṃ tu paramo dharmo yadyogenātmadarśanam' ityevamādāvātmajñāne 'pi dharmaśabdaprayogāt śravaṇamananididhyāsanādisahakṛtātmadarśanasyānādyanirvacanīyabhāvarūpājñānanivṛttijanakatvasya kenāpi pramāṇenājñātatvātyogajanyātmajñānasyaiva viśiṣṭaveṣeṇa paramadharmatvokteḥ jñāne 'pi dharmatvameveti yuktam //
naca - 'tarati śokamātmavit' ityādyupaniṣadvākyānāṃ arthavādarūpatve 'pi tatkalpyādātmajñānaṃ sādhayedityādyātmajñānavidherutpattipratīteḥ kathamabādhitatvam? iti - vācyam ; tathāvidhavāvākyānāmarthavādarūpatave 'pi tatkalpyādātmajñānaṃ sādhayedityādyātmajñānavidherutpattipratīterabādhitatvāt /

tadvidhiviṣayasyātmajñānasya phalajijñāsāyāṃ 'tarati śokamātmavi' dityārthavādikaśokāparaparyāyānādyavidyānivṛttirūpaphalapratīterapyabādhitatvāt lakṣaṇasaṃbhavena dharmatvopapatteḥ /
asti ca śravaṇādividhiprāyapāṭhe 'ātmā vā are draṣṭavyaḥ' iti spaṣṭo vidhiriti na tatkalpanākleśo 'pi /
naca jñāne pramāṇavastuparatantratvena vidhyanupapattiḥ ; jñānasya svato 'vidheyatve 'pi kālākāśādīnāṃ āśrayāviṣṭatveneva tadalukūlamanaḥ praṇidhānādivyāpārāviṣṭatvena vidheyatavopapatteḥ /
itarathā śravaṇādīnāmapyantato jñānarūpatvena tatrāpi śrotavya ityādividhyanupapatteḥ /
etena - jñāne vidhyanupapatteḥ draṣṭavya iti tavyapratyayasyārhārthatvamaṅgīkṛtya vihitaniṣiddhatvābhāvenātmajñānasya dharmādharmabahirbhūtatvameva /
ataeva karmopāsanākāṇḍadvayāt jñānakāṇḍaṃ bhinnam /
'ayaṃ tu paramo dharma' ityatra darśanaśabdaḥ karaṇalyuḍantaḥ /
tathāca savikalpasamādhyantena yogenātmajñānasādhanabhūto nirvikalpasamādhirevātmadarśanapadenocrūte iti tasyaiva dharmatvam, nātmajñānasya /
bhāvalyuḍantatvā'grahe tu sarvakarmaphalānāṃ jñānaphale antarbhāvāt jñānasya paramardhatvoktiḥ praśaṃsārūpaiveti kasyaciduktaṃ - apāstam ; anādyavidyāvāsitāntaḥ karaṇānāṃ saṃsāranimagnānāṃ kathamapyātmajñānavārtāmapyakurvatāṃ narāṇāmātmajñānavidhāyakaparatayopadeśaparatve saṃbhavati
nirarthakaprāyārhārthakatvakalpanāyā anyāyyatavāt, upāsanānāṃ dharmatve 'pi vicāryatāvacchedakakiñcidrūpabhedamādāya karmakāṇḍādbhedasyeva jñānasya dharmatve 'pi karmopāsanākāṇḍadvayādbhedasyopapatteśrca, svarasataḥ pratīyamānātmajñajñanarūpaphalaparatvamapahāya darśanapadasya karaṇalyuḍantatvakalpanayā sādhanaparatvakalpane nimittābhāvācca, nirvikalpasamādhyantayogasya yogaśabdārthatvāttadekadeśe pramāṇabhāvācca /
nahi hāsyādivyaṅgyārthajñāpanābhāve 'eṣāmayaṃ paramo brāhmaṇaḥ' itivākyamabrāhmaṇe śūdrādau prayujyate /
prakṛteṣīṇāṃ vyaṅgyārthajñāpane tātparyābhāvāt, pratyuta paramo brāhmaṇaḥ ityanena itarasya brāhmaṇatvoktaya ṣaṣṭhyantanirdiṣṭānāṃ brāhmaṇatvapratītivat asminvākye 'pi jñānasya dharmatvoktyā ijyādīnāṃ dharmatvapratītereva hetoryāgādikriyāṇāṃ dharmatvasya bhāṭṭālaṅkāraiḥ prasādhanācca /
ato yuktamevātmajñānasya dharmatvam

(nityanaimittikānāmapi pāpakṣayasādhanatvena dharmatvasamanvayaḥ /
tatra nyāyasudhākṛnmatopapādanaṃ ca) naca - nitayanaimittikakarmavidhiṣu phalāśravaṇāt kathameteṣāṃ pūrvoktalakṣaṇaviṣayatvena dharmatvam ? iti - vācyam; tatrāpi sarvāśaktyadhikaraṇe miśrādyupapāditarītyā 'pūrvo sandhyāṃ japaṃstiṣṭhanaiśameno vyapohati' ityādismṛtibhyo, 'yadrātryā pāpamakārṣam' ityādimantreśrcapāpakṣayarūpaphalakalpanāvaśyaṃbhāvena pūrvoktalakṣaṇasatvena dharmatvopapatteḥ /
yadyapi nyāyasudhākṛto naitanmatam, yathoktaṃ yāvajjīvādhikaraṇe tena - 'saṃdhyopāsanamātrāddhi sarvapāpakṣaye sati /
agnihotrādyanuṣṭhāne kaḥ pravarteta buddhimān ? /
ekasya tu kṣaye kasyetyavagantuṃ na śakyate ' iti ; tathāpi tena svakāle kriyamāṇānāṃ nityādīnāmakaraṇajanyadoṣābhāvaphalakatavasya tatkāle 'nyakaraṇasya vā pāpajanakatvena tatkṣayasya phalatvenābhyupagamāt uktasmṛtimantrebhyaśrcātikrānte 'pi kāle vihitākaraṇotpannadoṣanāśāya kartavyatavābhyupagamāt saṃbhavatyeva tanmate 'pi teṣāṃ uktavidhaṃ dharmatvam //
(dadhyādidravyāṇāṃ dharmatvamiva rajatādīnāmadharmatvamiti vyavasthāpanam) evañca yathaiva 'dadhnendriyakāmasya' 'yadi varṣukaḥ parjanyaḥ syānnīcaiḥ sado minuyāt' 'ṣaṣṭhe annādyakāmasye' tyādividhibodhitatattacchreyaḥ sādhanatākeṣu dravyaguṇakālādiṣu pūrvoktalakṣaṇasattvāddharmatvam, tathaiva 'barhiṣi rajataṃ na deyaṃ' ityādiniṣedhabodhitāniṣṭasādhanatākarajatādidravyeṣu adharmatvamapi yuktameva //
nacātra niṣedhavākyena dakṣiṇādānāsādhanatvamātrameva budhyate, natvaniṣṭasādhanatvamapi, tathātve 'bhyupetyāniṣṭaṃ rajatadātuḥ ṛtuvaiguṇyānāpatteriti kasrūcidbhāntasyoktaṃ yuktam ; pratyakṣato dakṣiṇādānasādhanatvenāvagate rajate prastare yajamānābhedasyeva vidhiśatairapi tadasādhanatābodhasya kartumaśakyatvāt /
nahyatra puruṣārthaniṣedhavat narakasādhanatvaṃ niṣedhavaiyarthyaparihārāyākṣipyate ; barhiḥ padopādānavaiyarthyāpatteḥ, kintu ṛtuprakaraṇe 'nānṛtaṃ vadet' iti niṣedhavat ṛtuvaiguṇyajanakatvameva, tadyadi dakṣiṇādānakriyāmātre bodhyate, tadā suvarṇādidānasyāpi vaiguṇyajanakatavāpattiḥ /
tathāca yathāśraddhaṃ dakṣiṇāṃ dadātīti vidhiprāpte yajñasaṃbandhidāne dakṣiṇātvena prāptarajatakaraṇatvameva ṛtuvaiguṇyajanakamityevamākṣipyate home dadhikaraṇatvasyendriyaphalajanakatvavat /
etāvataiva ca dadhyādau
dharmatvavrūvahāre sarvasaṃpratipanne sati kena vā viśeṣeṇa rajatādidravye nādharmatvaṃ vadatīti viśeṣamālocayantu sudhiyaḥ /
tasmādetadabhiprāyeṇaiva 'nahi phalārthaguṇānuṣṭhātṝṇāṃ yajñe rajatādyanuṭhātṝṇāṃ ca dhārmiko 'dhārmika iti vyavahārabhāva' ityuktaṃ bhāṭṭarahasye pūjyapādaiḥ /
ataeva niṣedhāvagatāniṣṭasādhanatākasya rajatasya 'so 'rodīt' ityarthavādenāprāśastyaṃ bodhyate /
etādṛśajñāpakābhave ca viśiṣṭakriyāyā eva niṣedhādaniṣṭajanakatvaṃ yathā kaljabhakṣaṇādāvityuktam

(adharmalakṣaṇasyāvidyādvaitavāsanādāvativyāptinirasanam) yadyapi adharmalakṣaṇaṃ 'asūryā nāma te lokā andhena tamasā vṛtāḥ /
tāṃste pretyābhigacchanti ye kecātmahano janāḥ' ityādyupaniṣadvākyabodhitāniṣṭasādhanatāke avidyādvaitavāsanādāvativyāptam ; tathāpi tasyātmajñajñanapraśaṃsāparasya lakṣaṇayā ātmajñānaprāśastyaparatvena āpātapratītaśakyārthajñānasya lakṣaṇottarabādhādabādhitapratītiviṣayāniṣṭasādhanatākatvā bhāvānnātivyāptiḥ /
yadi tvetādṛśanindayā dvaitavāsanāṃ tyajet taddoṣaparihārārthamiti vidhiḥ kalpyeta, yatadā tatra tyāgasya vihitatvāddharmatvameveti nānupapattiḥ /
ato yuktameva vedabodhitaśreyassādhanatākatvaṃ dharmatvaṃ, tadbodhitāniṣṭasādhanatākatvamadharmatvamityevaṃ lakṣaṇadvayam //
(dharmalakṣaṇe vedabodhitatvapariṣkāraḥ) atredamavadheyam - yadi vedabodhitatvaṃ vedajanyābādhitapratītiviṣayatvaṃ, tadyadi śābdabodharūpapratītimādāya, tadā vidheyasya svargādipadasamabhivyāhārādyāgasvargasādhyasādhanabhāvasya śābdabodhaviṣatve 'pi niṣedhasthale bhavanmate aniṣṭādivācakāpadasamabhivyāhārābhāve aniṣṭasādhanatvasya ākṣepādeva bodhasvīkārāt niṣedhyagatāniṣṭasādhanatvasya kathaṃ vedajanyaśābdabodharūpapratītiviṣayatvam ? yadi vedaprayojyapratītiviṣayatvam, tadā kathaṃ tadbrahmasvarganarakādāvapītyuktaṃ yenottaradalaṃ kṛtamiti bhāṭṭarahasye pūjyapādoktaṃ ghaṭate /
ato dharmalakṣaṇāvairūpyādadharmalakṣaṇamapi vedaprayojyānumitiviṣayāniṣṭasādhanatākatvamityeva kartu yuktam /
ātmajñāne 'pi yadi 'ātmā vā are draṣṭavyaḥ śrotavyaḥ' iti vidhiḥ, tadā tadvidhiprayojyānumitiviṣayājñānanivṛttirūpeṣṭasādhanātvāvidhātānnāvyāptiḥ /
yadā tu na tasya vidhitvamiti, tadā ātmajñānasya māstu dharmatvam /
'ayaṃ tu paramo dharma' ityatra kriyārūpāyāgasyeva dharmatvaṃ vivakṣitam, natvātmajñānasyetyapi śakyaṃ vaktumiti na doṣaḥ

(śyenadharmatvapakṣaḥ) ubhayavidhalakṣaṇasyāpi ca śyene sattvāddharmatvameva /
adharmatvaṃ tu śyenaphalasya hiṃsātmakābhicārasyaiveti caturthe vyaktīkariṣyate //
(aniṣedhyatvena śyenadharmatvasya balavadaniṣṭānubandhitvena tadadharmatvasya copapādanam) yattu bhāṭṭālaṅkārakṛtā - balavadaniṣṭānanubandhitvamapi dharmatvalakṣaṇe praveśya śyenasya vihitatvāt kathaṃ na hiṃsyāditiniṣedhaviṣayatvābhāve balavadaniṣṭānubandhitvamityāśaṅkya vairimaraṇaṃ mayā kartavyamiti saṃkalpasya rāgataḥ prāptasya vidhyaṃsuspṛṣṭasya niṣedhyatvāt, athavā - śyenaphalasya vairimaraṇānukūlavyāpārasya dṛṣṭopāyeneva śyenādinānuṣṭhātṛjanasya niṣedhātikramasattvāt tadupapatterityuktvā nacāsyādharmapadavācyatāpattiḥ ; aniṣṭānubandhitve 'pi svarūpeṇa niṣedhyatvābhavāt, niṣedhyasyaivādharmatvāt, yaditu svayamaniṣedhye 'pi paramparayāniṣṭānubandhinyadharmapadaṃ prayujyate loke, tadā bhavatu śyenāderadharmatvam - ityuktam //
(abhicāraniṣedhyatavopapādanaṃ śyenādharmatvapakṣakhaṇḍanaṃ ca) tatra vairimaraṇaṃ mayā kartavyamiti saṃkalpasya vidhyasaṃspṛṣṭatvamuktam, saṃkalpasya śyenācaraṇapūrvabhāvitvena karmaṇo vihitatve tatpūrvabhāvinaḥ tasyāpi karmavidhāyakaśastreṇa śāstrāntareṇa vā vidherāvaśyakatvāt, vidheyatvābhāve 'pivā karmāvinābhūtatvenāvarjanīyatvācca, itarathā agnīṣomīyādipaśuhiṃsāyāmapi paśumāraṇaṃ mayā kartavyamitiya saṃkalpasya niṣedhyatvena balavadaniṣṭānubandhitvāpatteḥ /
saṃkalpasya niṣedhaviṣayatvena śyene vihite balavadaniṣṭānubandhitvasya saṃbhavadvṛttikatvācca /
dṛṣṭopāye niṣedhaviṣayatve 'pi vihite śyene niṣedhātikramasya vaktumaśakyatavācca /
svarūpeṇa niṣedhyatvābhāvenādharmatvābhāve svarūpeṇa vihitatvena dharmatvāṅgīkāre bādhakābhāvādbalavadaniṣṭānanubandhitvapraveśe prayojanābhāvācca /
naca - paraṃparayāniṣṭānubandhitvādadharmatvamevāstu iti - vācyam ; kāsyakarmaṇāṃ kāmanāparityāgena vividiṣādyarthamupayogasyeva śyenasyāpyabhicārūpaphalāṃśaparityāgena vividiṣādyarthopayogasya dharmatvaphalasya sattvāt, śyenādau sarvathā balavadaniṣṭānanubandhitvābhāve kimapi pravṛttikāraṇābhāvāttadviṣayapravṛtteranupapatteśrca //
ata.ḥ śyenasya dharmasya sata eva paraṃparayāniṣānubandhitvenādharmatvaṃ vācyam /
tasmātparaṃparayaniṣṭānubandhitvenādharmatvasyāyuktatvāddharmalakṣaṇe cabalavadaniṣānanubadhitvapraveśe prayojanābhāvācca śyenādau dharmatvameva /
adharmatvaṃ tu śyenaphalasya hiṃsātmakābhicārasyaivetyeva yuktam /
samarthitaṃ caitadeva codanāsūtre śāstradīpikāyām //
(vacanāntarānusāreṇa śyenādharmatvasyāpi upapādanam) kathaṃ tarhi ' vrātyānāṃ yājanaṃ kṛtvā pareṣāmantyakarma ca /
abhicāramahīnaṃ ca tribhiḥ kṛcchrairviśudyati' iti prāyaśrcittāmnānaṃ śiṣṭānāṃ vigarhaṇaṃ copapadyate ? 'parasyotsādanārthe yattāmasaṃ tadudāhṛtaṃ' ityādivacanālocanena tāmasatavanindonnītaniṣedhabalena sākṣādeva narakasādhanatvāvagamenādharmatvasyāpi sattvāttadupapatteḥ

(śyenanindāyā nahinindānyāyaviṣayatvābhāvaḥ) naca - uditānuditahomaviṣayapratyakṣavidhivirodhāpatteriva sannidhipaṭhitānāmapi nindonnītaniṣedhakalpanameva na saṃbhavati iti - vācyam ; tatra nahinindānyāyena vidheyastutyarthatayā virodhaparihārasaṃbhave 'pi prakṛte trividhakarmopadeśaprastāvāt parasparastutyabhāvena nindāvaiyarthyāpattorniṣedhakalpanasyāvaśyakatvāt /
tathā yajñādīnāmapi sattvādiguṇabhedena trividhatvapratipādanaṃ iha rājasatāmasatābudyā kathaṃ tu nāma parityajet ? sāttvikānevānutiṣṭhet ityevamarthamāheti bhāṣyakāraiḥ 'parihārastvapi sarvasye' ti śrlokāvataraṇikāyāṃ niṣedhavidhikalpanasya anumoditatvācca, ānarthakyapratihatānāṃ viparītaṃ balābalam iti nyāyena smārtasyāpi prābalyācca, nindonnītatiṣedhakalpane tāmasyāpi karmaṇo vihitatvāt sarvadā śiṣṭānāmanuṣṭheyatvāpatteśrca /
itarathā tāmasayajñādīnāmapi niṣedhaviṣayatvānāpatteḥ, vihitasyeva kamraṇaḥ trividhatvokeḥ, tāmasatvakathanasya śyenādiviṣayatvasyaivākāmena vaktavyatavācchayenādau tadapravṛttervaktumaśakyatvācca //
naca - idaṃ bhagavadvacastrīvidhatayā traividhyakathanaparameva pūrvaprastavāt dṛśyate, 'vidhihīnamasṛṣṭhānnaṃ mantrahīnamadakṣiṇam /
śraddhāvirahitaṃ yajñaṃ tāmasaṃ paricakṣate' ityādinā pākayajñādīnāṃ tāmasatve kāraṇāntarābhidhānāt kathaṃ tadvacanasya śyenādiyāgaviṣayatvaṃ yuktam ? iti - vācyam ; kathañcitsāttvikāditrividhavihitakramopadeśamātre bhagavattātparye 'pi parasparāsaṃkīrṇalakṣaṇakaraṇe tātparyābhāvena tamomātrasya niyantumaśakyatvāt, anyathā vidhihīnāmantrakajapatapodānahomānāmatāmasatvāpatteḥ, yajñagatatāmasatvakāraṇaṃ vinānuṣṭhitābhicārārthayajñasya tāmasatvānāpatteśrca /
tapasastāmasatvakāraṇasya parapīḍājanakatvasya tapasīva tathāvidhayajñadānādāvapi sattve bhagavatāpi tāmasatvābhāvasya durupapādyatvācca, 'yaḥ svargye lokavidviṣṭaṃ dharmamapyācarennatu' ityādispaṣṭaniṣedhairapi svargātiriktādṛṣṭamātraphalakalokavidviṣadharmasādhanasya yāgadānahomatapaādirūpasya narakasādhanatvāvagamāt /
etenābhicārajanakaśyenādāviva yatrāpi sākṣā 'dvairimaraṇakāmo yajete' tyevamabhicārarūpayāgasyaiva vidhistatra vihitatvena hiṃsāniṣedhāpravṛtteḥ paraṃparayāpi cāniṣṭānutpādakasya dharmasyāpi yāgasyādharmatvamupapādanīyam //
naca - parasyotasādanārthamiti vākaye karaṇalyuḍantotsādanaśabdena parotsādanānukūlapvyāpārokteḥ tadarthakarmaṇaḥ śyenādereva tāmasatvaṃ pratīyate, natu sākṣādabhicārarūpasya yāgasyeti kathaṃ tāmasatvena nindāviṣayatvam ? iti - vācyam, abhicārajanakaśyenādestāmasatvakathane arthāreva sākṣādabhicārarūpasya karmaṇastāmasatvasya kaimutikanyāyasiddhatvāt /
ataeva tulyayogakṣematayā ninditayorubhayorabhicāratajjanakakarmaṇorabhicāramahīnañcetyatrābhicārapadena saṃgrahaḥ kriyate //
nac.ātrābhicārapadaṃ laukikābhicāraparam ; vihitayajñadānāhīnāntyakarmasamabhivyāhāreṇa vihitābhicāraparatvasyaivāvagateḥ /
astu vā ubhayavidhābhicāraparaṃ, tāvatāpi nakṣatiḥ /
ata upādhirūpayordharmatvādharmatvayoḥ mahābhāratīyayuddhe ivaikaśyenādāvaṅgīkāre bādhakābhāvāt vidhisārthakyāya narakanyūnatvasya ca kalpanādyuktameva pūrvoktadharmādharmalakṣaṇānusāri dharmatvamadharmatvaṃ ca śyenādāviti dik //
(vedāprāmāṇyanirāsaḥ) etādṛśapūrvoktalakṣaṇābhyāṃ dharmādharmasvarūpe siddhe tatpramāṇaṃ tāvat 'vedo 'khilo dharmamūlam' iti vacanādveda eveti pūrvoktalakṣaṇayorna vedabodhitatvāsaṃbhavaḥ /
vedasya ca svato 'pauruṣeyatvena nirdeṣatvādabādhitārthapratījijanakatvamapi nāsaṃbhavati /
bādhitārthapratītijanakatvamaprāmāṇyam /
tacca dvedhā /
sākṣāt kāraṇadoṣajñānādvā /
vedajanyajñāne sākhādanyathātvaṃ jñāne tāvannastyeva /
taddhi abodhakatvādadhigatabodhakatvāt bodhyasya tathābhūtvāvādvā /
tatra na tāvadabodhakatvaṃ vede vaktuṃ śakyam ; ākāṅkṣādiyuktebhyo gṛhītasaṃgatikebhyo vaidikapadebhyo vākyārthabodhasyānubhavasiddhatvāt /
nāpyadhigatārthabodhakatvam ; yāgādisvargasādhyasādhanabhāve pratyakṣādiviṣayatvābhāvasya pratyakṣasūtra eva nirākaraṇāt /
bodhasya tathābhūtatvābhāvo hi dveghā syāt artha kriyākārakatvādiguṇajanyajñānaviṣayatvādisādhakābhāvādbādhakamānādvā, tatra na tāvadādyaḥ, viṣayāthārthyenotpannasya jñānasyārthakriyākāritvādiguṇāpekṣayāṃ prayojanābhāvāt, atathābhūtasyāpi svapnārthasyārthakriyājanakatvadarśanena tathābhūtasyātathābhūtatvaprayojakatve vyabhicārācca /
bādhakaṃ mānamapi mithyā taditi jñānaṃ, duṣṭakaraṇajñāpitatvaṃ vā /
naca vedārthamithyātvapratyayaḥ saṃbhavati, svargaphalavidhiṣu kṣaṇikakarmaṇaḥ ākamuṣmikaphalakatvānupapattepūrvāvāntaravyāpārāṅgīkāreṇa nirastatvāt, citrādiṣu cānantaraphalānupalambhasya tadarthasatyatve 'pi cāturthikanyāyena aihikāmuṣmikatvena bādhakābhāvāt, kārīrīphalasya tu aihikasvabhāvasyāpi vaiguṇyādanantaramanupalambhasaṃbhave tatrāpi bādhakābhāvāt

(vedāpauruṣeyatvasya tatpauruṣeyatvānumāne pramāṇāntaramūlatvādinā sopādhitvānirūpaṇapūrvakaṃ vyavasthāpanam) duṣṭakaraṇajñāpitatvamapi na saṃbhavati ; yataḥ śabde svataḥ kasyāpi doṣasyāsaṃbhavāt puruṣadoṣa eva bhramādistaddheturvācyaḥ, saca padatadarthasaṃbandhasya puruṣakṛtatve tadāśritasya bhramādeḥ tadbodhādhīnapadārthajñānahetukavākyārthapramāṇe 'pi saṃkrāntitaḥ syāt, vedasyaiva vā pauruṣeyatave /
tatra padapadārthasaṃbandhasya tāvatpratipādyapratipādakabhāvarūpasyābhidhānakriyāgabhrasyāpi padārthasaṃbandhaḥ sarvo 'nyasmātpratipadyate, mahyavahāravaditi nyāyena svarūpato jñāpitatvāt pravāhānāditvānna pauruṣeyatvam /
tathā vedasyāpi vedārthasyālaukikatvena tadviṣayasya vākyasya samūlasya kartṛjñānasyāsaṃbhavānna pauruṣeyatvam /
yadi vedasyāpi pauruṣeyatvaṃ tadā yogamahimnā sarvajñānāṃ svabhāvataḥ sarvajñasyeśrvarasya ca jñānaprāmāṇyāviśeṣeṇa tadubhayavacaso viśeṣasya vaktumaśakyatavena manvādismṛtitulyatavameva syāt //
nanu - vedaḥ pauruṣeyaḥ, vākyatavāt,kālidāsādivākyavat, ityanumānāt kāṭhakādisamākhyādarśanāt 'trayo vedā ajāyante' ti śruteśrca vedasya kathaṃ na pauruṣeyatvam ? yuktañcaitat ; anyathā mantrārthavādasiddhapralayasya satvena tadānīmadhyetṝṇāṃ vedasyāpi nāśāt mantrārthavādādhigamāsaṃbhavenetarapadārthavat jñānāsaṃbhāvāpatteḥ, ata itarasṛṣṭivadvedasyāpi puruṣakartṛkatvameva /
ataeva vaktrā yatpratītimuddiśya yadvākyamuccaritaṃ, tasya tatparatvamiti lokasiddhatātparyasyāpi pauruṣevākye saṃbhavena upakramopasaṃhārādervedavākyagatatātparyanirṇāyakakalpanamapi nāpadyate, saturāṃ ca śabdajñānapramāṇyasyāptavākyādhīnatvena śabdotthajñānasyāprāmāṇyānāpattiśrca /
samākhyānasya ca siddhāntyabhimatapravacananimittatvenopādane tasya kupuruṣasādhāraṇyena asādhāraṇavyapadeśānupapattistadavasthaipava /
ataḥ pauruṣeya eva vedaḥ, tathātve 'pi 'tadvidāṃ ca smṛtiśīle' ityuktatvādvedavitpraṇītavaiṣamyamātreṇaiva smṛtitulyatvānāpattiḥ iti - cet, na; pauruṣeyatve pauruṣeyavākyaprāmāṇya tatkartṛpratyayādhīnasiddhikatvādavaśyasmartavyarūpakarturniyamenāsmaraṇāttadabhāvapratīteḥ /
naca chandogaprasiddhasya yonigranthasya kartṛsmareṇa pauruṣeyatvāpattiḥ ; tasya pauruṣeyatave sāmna uttaramūhagranthasrū pāṭhenaiva prāptyā 'yadyonyāṃ' taduttarayorgāyatī' tivacanaveyarthyāpattyaivāpauruṣeyatavasiddheḥ /
vākyatvahetukānumānamapi pramāṇāntaramūlatvena sopādhikamityaprayojakam ; pauruṣeyavākye tathaiva sattvāt, vedārthasya pratyakṣāgrāhyatvāt /
'trayo vedā ajāyante' tyādi tu 'uccaircā kriyate upāṃśu yajuṣā uccaiḥ sāmne' ti vidhiśeṣatvenārthavādarūpatvanna svārthe pramām /
yadi caite vidhayaḥ kartrapekṣāḥ syuḥkh tataḥ svargakāmavidhyapekṣitasvargasvarūpabodhakārthavādavadidamapi svārthe pramāṇaṃ bhavet vidhyapekṣitakartṛpratipādakatvena, natvetadasti /
etena mantrārthavādebhyaḥ sṛṣṭipralayasiddhirnirastā; teṣāmapi vidhyantaraśeṣatvena svārthe prāmāṇyābhāvāt, kāṭhakādisamākhyāyā api kaṭhādiṣu viśeṣavṛttipravacanātiśayena kenāpyupapatteḥ, kaṭhaiḥ paramparayādhīyamānatvena vā tatsaṃbhavācca /
naca mānavādisamākhyānāmapi pravacananimittatvāpattyā smṛtyāderapi tathātvāpattiḥ, ādyantanāmāvalismaraṇarūpadṛḍhakartṛsmaraṇena tāsāṃ kartṛparatvāt /
ataeva 'vāsiṣṭhasrū ārṣa viśrvāmitrasyār''ṣe' iti prativākyaṃ kartṛsmaraṇamapi ṛṣidarśanādismaraṇāt sṛṣṭyādau tatra vauyadarśanamātreṇaivopapannamiti na vasiṣṭhādikartṛkatvavādinā etādṛśayogeneva kāṭhakādisamākhyānāpamupapādanīyatavācca, kartrajanyatave 'pi yatpratītyartha yadvākyaṃ tatparaṃ taditi tādarthyarūpatātpaṣasya vede'pyupapannatvena tadanupapattyāpādanasyāyuktatavācca, prāmāṇyaghaṭitayāvatpadārthānāṃ arthāvabodhakatvānadhigatārthabodhakatvādirūpāṇāṃ vede 'pi saṃbhavenā'ptavākyajanyatvābhāve 'pi tadupapatteśca /
astuvā arthavādādipramāṇakam sṛṣṭipralayādikaṃ vedādināśaśrca ; tathāpi saṃsārasyānāditvenaikakalpasamutthitaṃ vedaṃ kalpāntarer iśrvaraḥ sarvajñatvādupadiśatītyeva kalpanālaghavenopapattau pratikalpaṃ racanākalpanāgauravasyānnayāyyatavena neśrvarakartṛkatvakalpanaṃ yuktam /
saṃsārasya sāditve hi abhinavānupūrvīviracanamavaśyaṃ yuktam /
saṃsārasya sāditve hi abhinavānupūrvīviracanamavaśyaṃ abhyupeyaṃ syāt /
naca tatsaṃbhavati ; sṛṣṭeḥ pūrva vedābhāvāt vedaikasamadhigamyadharmādharmābhāve tadanuṣṭhānābhāvāt kalpāntarotpannaprāṇināṃ sukhaduḥkhotpattyanupapatteḥ, vākyaracanasya janyajñānapūrvakatvadarśanena riśrvare janyajñānakalpanāprasaṃgāpatteśrca, nityajñānasya vedaprāmāṇyādhīnasiddhitvenetaretarāśrayāt, 'sati vedaprāmāṇye tadbodhitanityajñānavattvena riśrvarasya tatkartṛtvaṃ, tatkartṛtvena ca vedaprāmāṇyamiti /
etena - kṣityādikaṃ sakartṛkaṃ, kāryatvāt, ityanumānena nityajñānavadīśrvarasiddhau tadīyajñānamūlakatvena vedasya prāmāṇyam iti - parāstam ; tāvatāpyanityajñānavata eva kṣityādikartṛsiddhau tadīyajñānasyāpi mūlapramāṇaṃ vinā prāmāṇyāsiddheḥ /
ataeva ' yasya niḥśrvasitaṃ vadā' iti śrutirapi niḥśrvāsavadaprayatnasiddhatvaṃ vadati; vedasya cāsmaryamāṇakartṛkatvenājanyatvasyeva pratīteḥ /
ānupūrvīviśeṣaviśiṣṭavarṇātmakasya vedasya varṇasvarūpeṇa nityatve 'pi ānupūrvīviśeṣasyoccāraṇasāmagrī janyatvenānityatvam /
sagakāle ca tajjātīyānupūrvī kācidastīti kāryarūpeṇānāditvenaiva nityatvaṃ, na gaganādivat svarūpeṇānāditvenetyarthe siddhe kathamapyaprāmāṇyakāraṇābhāve svata eva nirdeṣādabādhitapratītyutpattisaṃbhavādyuktameva pūrvoktaṃ dharmādharmalakṣaṇadvayam //
