Bhāvanākramaḥ prathamaḥ
[mahāyānasūtrāṇāṃ ya ādikarmikasya caryāniyamaḥ /
tamadhikṛtya saṃkṣepād bhāvanākramastvabhidhīyate //

acireṇa sarvajñatāṃ prāptukāmaiḥ saṃkṣepataḥ karuṇā, bodhicittam, pratipattiśceti triṣu sthāneṣu prayatitavyam /

buddhatvasya aśeṣadharmahetumūlaṃ karuṇaiveti jñātvā sādāveva bhāvayitavyā / yathoktam āryadharmasaṃgītisūtre- "atha khalvavalokiteśvaro bodhisattvo mahasattvo bhagavantametadavocat- na bhagavan bodhisattvena atibahuṣu dharmeṣu śikṣitavyam / eko dharmo bhagavan bodhisattvena svārādhitaḥ supratividdhaḥ kartavyaḥ / tasya sarvabuddhadharmāḥ karatalagatā bhavanti / katama ekadharmaḥ? yaduta mahākaruṇā / mahākaruṇayā bhagavan bodhisattvānāṃ sarvabuddhadharmāḥ karatalagatā bhavanti / tadyathā bhagavan yena rājñaścakravartinaścakraratnaṃ gacchati tena sarvo balakāyo gacchati, evameva bhagavan yena bodhisattvasya mahākaruṇa gacchati, tena sarve buddhadharmā gacchanti / tadyathā bhagavan jīvitendriye sati anyeṣāmindriyāṇāṃ pravṛttirbhavati, evameva bhagavan mahākaruṇāyāṃ satyāmanyeṣāṃ bodhisattvānāṃ] dharmāṇāṃ pravṛttirbhavati /" iti /

āryākṣayamatinirdeśe coktam- "punaraparam, bhadanta śāradvatīputra, bodhisattvānāṃ mahākaruṇāpyakṣayā / tat kasya hetoḥ? pūrvaṅgamatvāt / (Bhk 166) tadyathāpi nāma, bhadanta śāradvatīputra, āśvāsāḥ [praśvāsāḥ] puruṣasya jīvitendriyasya pūrvaṅgamāḥ, evameva mahāyāna-sambhāra-samudāgamāya bodhisattvasya mahākaruṇā pūrvaṅgamā" iti vistaraḥ / āryagayāśīrṣe coktam- "kimārambhā, mañjuśrīḥ, bodhisattvānāṃ caryā, kimadhiṣṭhānā ca? mañjuśrīrāha- mahākaruṇārambhā, devaputra, bodhisattvānāṃ caryā sattvādhiṣṭhānā / "iti vistaraḥ /

tathā hi tayā preryamāṇā bodhisattvāḥ svātmanirapekṣā ekāntena paropakārārthatayā atiduṣkaradīrghakālike 'pi sambhāropārjanapariśrame pravartante / tathā coktam āryaśraddhābalādhāne- "tatra [mahā]karuṇayāpi sarvasattvaparipācanārthaṃ na tat kiñcit sukhopādhānaṃ yanna parityajati / "iti / ato 'tiduṣkare pravartamāno nacireṇaiva sambhārān paripūryāvaśyameva sarvajñapadam adhigacchati / tato buddhadharmāṇāṃ karuṇaiva mūlam / mahākaruṇāparigrahādeva buddhā bhagavanto 'dhigamya sarvajñapadam aśeṣasya jagato 'rtha vikurvāṇāstiṣṭhanta iti nirvāṇāpratiṣṭhāne saiva bhagavatāṃ mahākaruṇā hetuḥ /

sā ca duḥkhitasattvālambanamanaskārabahulīkārato vṛddhim (upayāti) / sarve ca te sattvāstridhātukāvacarāstrividhaduḥkhatayā yathoyogam atyanta duḥkhitā eveti sarveṣveva sattveṣu bhāvanīyam / tathā ca ye tāvannārakāste vividhacirantanadīrghakālikadāhādiduḥkha [nadīṣu] nimagnā eva bhagavatā varṇitāḥ / tathā pretā api duḥsahatīvrakṣuttṛṣādiduḥkha[agni] (Bhk 167) pīḍābhisaṃśoṣitamūrtayastīvraduḥkham anubhavanti / yena varṣaśatenāpyaśuciṃ kheṭapiṇḍanaṃ ca bhoktuṃ na labhanta ityādi varṇitaṃ bhagavatā / tiryañco 'pi paraspara[bhakṣaṇa]krodhavadhahiṃsādibhiranekavidhaṃ duḥkhamanubhavanto dṛśyanta eva / tathā hi kecinnāsikābhedanatāḍāṇabandhanādibhiratantrīkṛtaśarīrāḥ paritaḥ paripīḍayamānāḥ kathamapyanicchanto 'pi atidurvahagurubhārodvahanaparikhinnavapuṣaḥ pariklāmyanti, tathāraṇye 'pi nivasanto 'naparādhāḥ kecit kvacit [artha]to 'nviṣya hanyante / nityaṃ ca bhayavivhalamānasastatastataḥ palāyamānāstiṣṭhantītyaparimitam eṣāṃ duḥkhaṃ dṛśyatta eva / tathā mānuṣye 'pi nārakaṃ duḥkhaṃ dṛśyata eva / atra ye caurādayo 'ṅgacchedaśūlārpaṇodbandhanādibhiḥ kāryanta eva teṣāṃ nārakameva duḥkham / ye ca dāridrayadyupahatāsteṣāṃ pretānāmiva tatkṣuttarṣāḍibhirduḥkham / ye ca bhṛtyādayaḥ parāyattīkṛtātmabhāvāḥ, ye ca balibhirākramya pīḍayante teṣāṃ tiraścāmiva tāḍanāvarodhanādi duḥkham / tathā paryeṣṭikṛtam anyo 'nyadrohopaghātādi kṛtaṃ priyaviprayogāpriyasaṃyogakṛtaṃ cāprameyameṣāṃ duḥkham / ye kvacid īśvarāḥ sukhitā iva lapyante te 'pi viparyavasānasampado vividhakudṛṣṭigahananimagnā nārakādiduḥkhānubhavahetuvividha kleśakarmāṇyupacinvantaḥ prapātasthāstarava iva duḥkhahetau [api] vartamānāḥ paramārthato duḥkhitā eva /

devā api ye tāvat kāmāvacarāste 'pi tīvrakāmāgnisandīptamānasā ākṣiptacittā ivāsvacchacetasaḥ kṣaṇamapi samādhānaṃ cetasāṃ na labhante / teṣāṃ praśamasukhadhanadaridrāṇāṃ kīdṛśaṃ nāma tat sukham? nityacyavanapatanādibhayaśokopahatāḥ kathaṃ sukhitā nāma? ye ca rūpārūpāvacarāste 'pi (Bhk 168) yadi nāma kiyatkālaṃ duḥkhaduḥkhatāṃ vyatītāstathāpyatyantaṃ kāmāvacarāṇām anuśayānām aprahāṇāt teṣāṃ punarapi nārakādivinipātasambhavād vipariṇāmaduḥkham astyeva / sarve nāma devamanuṣyāḥ kleśakarmādipāratantryāt te saṃskāraduḥkhatayā duḥkhitā eva /

tadevaṃ sakalameva jagad duḥkhagnijvālāvalīḍham ityavetya yathā mama duḥkhamapriyaṃ tathānyeṣāmapriyamiti cintayatā sarveṣveva sattveṣu kṛpā bhāvanīyā / prathamaṃ tāvad mitrapakṣeṣu pūrvoktā vividhaduḥkhānubhaveṣvanupaśyatā bhāvanīyā /

tataḥ sattvasamatayā viśeṣamapaśyatānādimati ca saṃsāre na kaścit sattvo yo na me śataśo bandhurabhūditi paricintayatā vyasteṣu bhāvanīyā / yadā mitrapakṣeṣviva vyasteṣu [api] tulyā karuṇā pravṛttā bhavati, tadā śatrupakṣe 'pi tathaiva sattvasamatādimanasikāreṇa bhāvanīyā / yadā ca śatrupakṣe 'pi mitrapakṣavat samapravṛttā bhavati, tadā kramaśo daśasu dikṣu sarvasattveṣu [api] bhāvayet / yadā ca duḥkhitabālapriyeṣviva duḥkhoddharaṇecchākārā svarasavāhinī sarvasattveṣu samapravṛttā kṛpā bhavati, tadā sā niṣpannā bhavati mahākaruṇāvyapadeśaṃ ca labhate / yathā akṣayamatisūtre ca varṇitam / ayaṃ ca kṛpābhāvanākramo bhagavatābhidharmasūtrādau varṇitaḥ /

tasyaivaṃ kṛpābhyāsabalāt sakalasattvābhyuddharaṇapratijñayānuttarasamyaksambodhiprārthanākāram ayatnata eva bodhicittamutpadyate / yathoktam āryadaśadharmasūtre- "sattvān atrāṇān aśaraṇān advīpān dṛṣṭvā karuṇāyai cittamupasthāpya yāvadanuttarāyāṃ samyaksaṃbodhau cittamutpādayati" iti / yadi nāma parasamādāpanādināpi bodhisattvasya mahāsattvasya bodhicittamutpadyate, tathāpi kṛpāvegato yat svayameva bodhisattvasya bodhicittamutpadyate (Bhk 169) tad bhagavatā āryatathāgatajñānamudrāsamādhau viśiṣṭataratvena varṇitam /

tadetad bodhicittaṃ pratipattivikalamapi saṃsāre mahāphalaṃ bhagavatā varṇitam / tathā coktaṃ maitreyavimokṣe- "tad yathāpi nāma, kulaputra, bhinnamapi vajraratnaṃ sarvam ativiśiṣṭaṃ suvarṇālaṅkāramabhibhavati, vajraratnanāma ca na vijahāti, sarvadāridrayaṃ ca vinivartayati / evameva, kulaputra, pratipattibhinnamapi sarvajñatācittotpādavajraratnaṃ sarvaśrāvakapratyekabuddhaguṇasuvarṇālaṅkāram abhibhavati / bodhicittanāma na vijahāti, saṃsārādāridrayaṃ ca vinivartayati" iti /

yo 'pi pāramitāsu sarveṇa sarvaṃ sarvathā śikṣitum asamarthaḥ, tenāpi bodhicittam utpādanīyameva, upāyaparigraheṇa mahāphalatvāt / yathā coktam āryarājāvavādakasūtre- "yāsmāt tvaṃ mahārāja, bahukṛtyo bahukaraṇiyaḥ, asahaḥ sarveṇa sarvaṃ sarvathā dānapāramitāyāṃ śikṣitum, yāvat prajñāpāramitāyāṃ śikṣitum / tasmāttarhi tvaṃ mahārāja evameva sambodhau chandaṃ śraddhāṃ prārthanāṃ praṇidhiṃ ca, gacchannapi tiṣṭhannapi niṣaṇṇo 'pi śayāno 'pi jāgradapi bhuñjāno 'pi pibannapi, satatasamitam anusmara, manasikuru bhāvaya / sarvabuddhabodhisattvārya śrāvakapratyekabuddhapṛthagjanānām ātmanaśca atītānāgatapratyutpannāni kuśalamūlāni piṇḍayitvā, anumodasva agrayā anumodanayā / anumodya ca sarvabuddhabodhisattvapratyekabuddhāryaśrāvakāṇāṃ pūjākarmāṇi niryātaya / niryātya ca sarvasattvasādhāraṇāni kuru / tataḥ sarvasattvānāṃ yāvat sarvajñatāpratilambhāya sarvabuddhadharmaparipūraṇāya dine (Bhk 170) traikālyam anuttarāyāṃ samyaksaṃbodhau pariṇāmaya / evaṃ khalu tvaṃ mahārāja, pratipanna, san rājyaṃ ca kārayiṣyasi, rājyakṛtyāni ca na hāpayisyasi, [bodhisambhārāṃśca paripūrayiṣyāsi]" / ityādi kamuktvāha- "atha khalu punastvaṃ mahārāja, samyaksambodhicittakuśalamūlavipākena anekakṛtyo deveṣu upapanno 'bhūḥ / anekakṛtyo manuṣyeṣu upapanno 'bhūḥ / sarvāsu ca devamanuṣyopapattiṣu ādhipatyaṃ kārayiṣyasi" / iti vistaraḥ /

yat punaḥ pratipattisāraṃ bodhicittaṃ tad atitarāṃ vipulaṃ phalam iti siddhim / ata eva āryavīradattaparipṛcchāyām uktam-

bodhicittād vai yat puṇyaṃ tacca rūpi bhaved yadi /
ākāśadhātuṃ sampūrya bhūyaścottaritaṃ bhavet //
gaṅgābālukasaṃkhyāni buddhakṣetrāṇi yo naraḥ /
dadyād ratnaprapūrṇāni lokanāthebhya eva hi //
yaścaikaḥ prāñjalirbhūtvā cittaṃ bodhāya nāmati /
iyaṃ viśiṣyate pūjā yasyā anto na vidyate // iti /

yathā āryagaṇḍavyūhe varṇitam- "bodhicittaṃ kulaputra! bījabhūtaṃ sarvabuddhadharmāṇām" iti vistaraḥ / tacca bodhicittaṃ dvividhaṃ praṇīdhicittaṃ prasthānacittaṃ ca / āryagaṇḍavyūhe varṇitam, tathā- "rdurlabhāste, kulaputra, sattvāḥ sattvaloke ye 'nuttarāyāṃ samyaksambodhau praṇidadhati iti / tato 'pi durlabhatamāste sattvā ye 'nuttarāṃ samyaksambodhim abhisamprasthitāḥ" iti / sakalajagato hitāya buddho bhaveyamiti prathamataraṃ prārthanākārā cetanā (Bhk 171) tatpraṇidhicittam / yataḥ prabhṛti saṃvaragrahaṇe vartamānāḥ sambhāreṣu dṛśyante tatprasthānacittam /

saṃvaraśca vijñātapratibalasaṃvarasthitāt kalyāṇamitrāt parato grāhyaḥ / asati pratirūpe grāhake buddhabodhisattvān āmukhīkṛtya yathā mañjuśrīyāmbararājabhūtena bodhicittamutpāditaṃ tathotpādanīyaḥ / evamutpāditabodhicitto bodhisattvaḥ svayameva dānādi dadāti pratipattau prayokṣyate, na hi svayamadāntaḥ parān damayatīti mattvā / na cāpi vinā pratipattyā bodhiravāpyate / yathoktam āryagayāśīrṣe- "pratipattisārāṇāṃ bodhisattvānāṃ bodhirnāpratipattisārāṇām" iti / āryasamādhirāje coktam- "tasmāt pratipattisāro bhaviṣyāmi ityevaṃ tvayā kumāra, śikṣitavyam / tat kasya hetoḥ? pratipattisārasya hi, kumāra, na durlabhā bhavatyanutarā samyaksaṃbodhiḥ" iti /

sā ca pratipattirbodhisattvasya pāramitāpramāṇasaṅgrahavastvādibhedena akṣayamatiratnameghādisūtreṣu vistareṇa varṇitā / tathā laukikaśilpādisthāneṣvapi yāvad bodhisattvena śikṣitavyam / kiṃ punarlokottareṣu dhyānādiṣu / anyathā kathaṃ sarvākāraṃ sattvārthaṃ kuryuḥ / sā ceyaṃ saṃkṣepeṇa bodhiattvasya prajñopāyarūpā pratipattirna prajñāmātraṃ nopāyamātram / yathā āryavimalakirtinirdeśe- "prajñārahita upāya upāyarahitā ca prajñā bodhisattvānāṃ bandhanam" ityuktam / upāyasahitā prajñā prajñāsahitā upāyo mokṣatvena varṇitaḥ / āryagayāśīrṣe coktam- "dvāvimau bodhisattvānāṃ saṃkṣiptau mārgau / dvābhyāṃ mārgābhyāṃ samanvāgatā bodhisattvā mahāsattvāḥ kṣipramanuttarāṃ (Bhk 172) samyaksaṃbodhim abhisambhotsyante / katamau dvau, upāyaśca prajñā ca / "iti /

tatra prajñāpāramitāṃ tyaktvā dānādipāramitāsaṅgrahavastvādikaṃ sarvameva kṣetrapariśuddhimahābhoga[bahu] parivārasampatsattvaparipākanirmāṇādikasakalābhyudayadharmasaṅgrāhakaṃ kuśalam upāya ucyante / prajñā tu tasyaiva copāyasyāviparītasvabhāvaparicchedahetuḥ / tayā hi samyagupāyaṃ vivicyāviparyasto yathāvat svaparārthānuṣṭhānād viṣamiva mantraparigṛhītaṃ bhuñjāno na saṃkliśyate / tathā coktamatraiva sutre- "upāyaḥ saṅgrahajñānam prajñā paricchedajñānam /" iti / āryaśraddhābalādhāne coktam- "upāyakauśalaṃ katamam? yat saṅgrahaḥ sarvadharmāṇāṃ / prajñā katamā? yat sarvadharmāṇām asambhadena kauśalam" iti / etau prajñopāyau dvāvapi sarvakālameva sevanīyau bhūmipraviṣṭairapi na tu prajñāmātraṃ nopāyamātram / yataḥ sarvāsveva daśasu bhūmiṣu bodhisattvasya pāramitāsamudācāraḥ paṭhito dadhabhūmikādau "na ca pariśeṣāsu na samudācarati" iti vacanāt /

aṣṭamyāṃ ca bhūmau bodhisattvasya śāntavihāriṇo buddhairvyuttthānaṃ tad virudhyeta / tacca tatastatra pāṭhād avagantavyam / [tathā coktaṃ tatraiva sūtre] "tasya khalu bho jinaputra, bodhisattvasya evamimāmacalāṃ bodhisattvabhūmimanugatasya pūrvapraṇidhānabalādhānasthitasya buddhā bhagavantastasmin dharmamukhastrotasi tathāgatajñānopasaṃhāraṃ kurvanti / evaṃ caina bruvanti- sādhu (Bhk 173) sādhu kulaputra / eṣā paramārthakṣāntirbuddhadharmānugamāya / api tu khalu punaḥ kulaputra, yā asmākaṃ daśabalacaturvaiśāradyabuddhadharmasamṛddiḥ, sā tava nāsti / tasyā buddhadharmasamṛddheḥ paryeṣaṇāya abhiyogaṃ kuru, vīryamārabhasva / etadeva kṣāntimukhaṃ monmokṣīḥ / api tu khalu punaḥ kulaputra, kiṃ cāpi tvayaivaṃ śāntavimokṣavihāro 'nuprāptaḥ, imān punaraśāntānapraśāntān bālapṛthagjanān nānākleśasamudācāraprāptān vividhavitarkopahatamānasān samanvāhara, apekṣasva / api tu khalu punaḥ kulaputra, pūrvapraṇidhānamanusmara sattvārthasaṃprāpaṇaṃ jñānamukhācintyatāṃ ca / api tu khalu punaḥ kulaputra, eṣā sarvadharmāṇāṃ dharmatā / utpādādvā tathāgatānāmanutpādādvā sthitaivaiṣā dharmatā dharmadhātusthitiḥ yadidaṃ sarvadharmaśūnyatā sarvadharmānupalabdhiḥ / naitayā tathāgatā eva kevalaṃ prabhāvyante, sarvaśrāvakapratyekabuddhā api hyetāmavikalpadharmatāmanuprāpnuvanti /

api tu khalu punaḥ kulaputra, prekṣasva tāvat tvamasmākaṃ kāyāpramāṇatāṃ ca jñānāpramāṇatāṃ ca buddhakṣetrāpramāṇatāṃ ca jñānābhinirhārāpramāṇatāṃ ca prabhāmaṇḍalāpramāṇatāṃ ca svarāṅgaviśuddhayapramāṇatāṃ ca / tathaiva tvamapyabhinirhāramutpādaya / api tu khalu punaḥ kulaputra, ekastveṣa āloko yo 'yaṃ sarvadharmānirvikalpālokaḥ / īdṛśāstu kulaputra, dharmālokāstathāgatānāmaparyantagatā aparyantakṛtā aparyantabaddhāḥ, yeṣāṃ saṃkhyā nāsti, gaṇanā, pramāṇamupaniṣadaupamyaṃ nāsti, tesāmadhigamāya abhinirhāramutpādaya / api tu khalu punaḥ kulaputra, prekṣasva tāvad daśasu dikṣu apramāṇakṣetratāṃ ca apramāṇasattvatāṃ ca apramāṇadharmavibhaktitāṃ ca / tatsarvamanugaṇaya / yathāvattayā abhinirhāramutpādaya / "iti hi bho jinaputra, te buddhā bhagavanta (Bhk 174) evaṃ bhūmyanugatasya bodhisattvasya evaṃ pramukhānyaprameyāṇyasaṃkhyeyāni jñānābhinirhāramukhānyupasaṃharanti, yairjñānābhinirhāramukhairbodhisattvo 'pramāṇajñānavibhaktito 'bhinirhārakarmābhiniṣpadayati / ' ārocayāmi te bho jinaputra, prativedayāmi / te ced buddhā bhagavantastaṃ bodhisattvamevaṃ sarvajñajñānābhinirhāramukheṣu nāvatārayeyustadevāsya parinirvāṇaṃ bhavetsarvasattvakāryapratiprasrabdhiśca /" iti vistaraḥ /

yacca āryavimalakīrtinirdeśe gayāśīrṣe coktaṃ tadapi pūrvoktaṃ virudhyate, evaṃ sāmānyenaiva tatrābhidhānāt / yat sarvadharmasaṅgrahavaipulye coktaṃ tadapi virudhyate / eva / tatroktam- "sūkṣmaṃ hi mañjuśrīḥ, saddharmapratikṣepakarmāvaraṇam / yo hi kaścinmañjuśrīḥ, tathāgatabhāṣite dharma ekasmin śobhanasaṃjñām utpādayati / ekasminnaśobhasaṃjñām utpādayati / sa saddharmaṃ pratikṣipati / tena saddharmaṃ pratikṣipatā tathāgato 'bhyākhyāto bhavati" iti vistaram uktvā āha- "yo 'yaṃ maitreya, ṣaṭpāramitāsamudāgamo bodhisattvānāṃ bodhāya taṃ te mohapuruṣā evaṃ vakṣyanti / prajñāpāramitāyāmeva bodhisattvena śikṣitavyam, kiṃ śeṣābhiḥ pāramitābhiriti / te 'nyā mupāyapāramitāṃ dūṣayitavyāṃ manyante / tat kiṃ manyase, ajita! duṣprajñaḥ sa kāśirājo 'bhūd yena kapotārtha śyenāya svamāṃsāni dattāni? maitreya āha, no hīdam, bhagavan / bhagavānāha- yāni mayā maitreya, bodhisattvacaryāṃ caratā ṣaṭpāramitāsaṃyuktāni kuśalamūlānyupacitāni / apakṛtaṃ nu taiḥ kuśalamūlaiḥ? maitreya āha- no hīdaṃ bhagavan / bhagavān āha, tvaṃ tāvad ajita, dānāpāramitāyāṃ ṣaṣṭiṃ kalpān samudāgataḥ / yāvat prajñāpāramitāyāṃ ṣaṣṭiṃ kalpān samudāgataḥ, tat te mohapuruṣā evaṃ vakṣyanti- ekanayenaiva (Bhk 175) bodhiryaduta śūnyatānayena" iti vistaraḥ / vairocanābhisambodhau coktam- 'tadetat sarvajñajñānaṃ karuṇāmūlaṃ bodhicittahetukam upāyaparyavasānam" iti / tasmādubhayaṃ sarvakālameva bodhisattvena sevanīyam /

evaṃ hi bhagavatām apratiṣṭhitanirvāṇaṃ sidhyati / tathā hi dānāderūpāyasya rūpakāyakṣetraparivārādimahābhogatāphalasampatparigrahād bhagavatāṃ na nirvāṇe 'vasthānam / prajñayā ca sakalaviparyāsaprahāṇād na saṃsāre 'vasthānaṃ viparyāsamūlatvāt saṃsārasya / anyā ca prajñopāyasvarūpayā pratipadā samāropāpavādāntavivarjanena madhyamā pratipad udbhāvitā / prajñayā samāropāntasya varjanād upāyenāpavādāntasya varjanāt / ata eva āryadharmasaṅgītāvuktam- "lakṣaṇānuvyañjanarūpakāyapariniṣpādanābhirataśca bhavati, na dharmakāyābhisamayamātrābhirataḥ" iti / punaruktam- "prajñopāyajanitastathāgatānāṃ parapratyayataḥ saṃbhavo 'nugantavyaḥ" iti /

yat punaruktam- "kolopamaṃ dharmaparyāyam ājānadbhirdharmā eva prahātavyāḥ, prāg evādharmāḥ" iti / tad viparītābhiniveśaprahāṇataḥ prahātavyā ityabhiprāyāduktam, na tu prayojanasampadanārthamapi nāśrayaṇiyam / tathā coktam- "dharmaḥ pragrahītavyo nodgrahītavyaḥ" iti / nonmārgeṇa pragrahītavya ityarthaḥ / yaccāpi kvacid dānādi sāṃsārikaphalatvena varṇitaṃ tat prajñārahitānāṃ dānādīnāṃ pūrvam uktaṃ tāvanmātrakuśalamūlasantuṣṭāṃścādhikṛtyottara kuśalamūle protsāhanārtham / anyathā [ārya-]vimalakīrtinīrdeśaḥ [ādi pūrvoktaḥ] sarva eva virudhyate / tasmāttu dvāvapi prajñopāyau sevanīyāviti sthitam /

tasmāccintāmayyā prajñayā yuktayāgamābhyāṃ pratyavekṣya bhūtameva vastusvarūpaṃ bhāvanīyam / vastūnāṃ svarūpaṃ ca paramārthato 'nutpāda evāgamato yuktitaśca niścitam /

tatrāgamato yathoktam āryadharmasaṅgītau- "anutpādaḥ satyamasatyam anye dharmāḥ" iti / etacca paramārthānukūlatvād anutpādaḥ satyamityuktam / paramārthatastu notpādo nāpyanutpādaḥ, tasy sarvyavahārātītatvāt / punaścātraiva coktam- "utpādanirodhābhiniviṣṭaḥ kulaputra, lokasanniveśaḥ, (Bhk 177) tasmāt tathāgato mahākāruṇiko lokasyottrāsapadaparihārāthaṃ vyavahāravaśād uktavān, utpadyate nirudhyate ceti na cātra kasyacid dharmasyotpādaḥ" iti / aryabuddhasaṅgītau coktam- "katamā yoniśaḥ pṛcchā, katamā yoniḥ? āha anutpādo yoniḥ, tasya pṛcchā yoniśaḥ pṛccha" / punaratraivoktam- "cakāramukhaḥ sarvadharmāścyutyutpattivigatāḥ / abhāvamukhāḥ sarvadharmāḥ, svabhāvaśūnyatām upādāya" iti / āryasatyadvayavibhāge cānutpādasamatayā sarvadharmāṇāṃ samatā bhavati / prajñāpāramitāyāṃ coktam- "rūpaṃ subhūte, rūpasvabhāvena śūnyam, yāvad vijñānaṃ vijñānasvabhāvena śūnyamiti svalakṣaṇaśūnyatām upādāya" iti / hastikakṣye coktam-

pitāputrasamāgame coktam- "sarva ete dharmāḥ sarve samāstraikālyasamatayā / atīte 'dhvani sarvadharmāḥ svabhāvarahitā yāvat pratyutpanne 'dhvani" iti / evaṃ tavad āgamataḥ pratyavekṣaṇīyam / yuktyā hi sthirīkṛtasyāgamārthasyānyairapohitam aśakyatvāt / ato yuktyāpi pratyavekṣanīyam /

iyaṃ ca yuktirbhagavato 'bhipretā śālistambādau / svataḥ parata ubhābhyām ahetośca janmaniṣedhāt /

athavā evaṃ yuktyā vicārayet / dvividhā bhāvā rūpiṇo 'rūpiṇaśca / tatrāpi tāvad rūpiṇo ghatādayaste 'ṇuśo vibhinnarūpatvād naikasvabhāvāḥ / aṇūnāṃ pūrvāparasthitānāṃ pūrvādidigbhāgatvena vibhidyamānānām asiddhāvapyaṇusaṃcayātmakatve nānekasvabhāvo yuktaḥ, na caikānekasvabhāvavyatirekeṇāparaḥ kaścid bhāvasvabhāvo 'stīti niḥsvabhāvā evāmī paramārthataḥ svapnādyupalabdharūpādivad rūpiṇo bhavāḥ / etacca bhagavataiva coktam āryalaṅkāvatāre- "goviṣāṇāṃ punarmahāmate, aṇuśo 'pi vibhidyamānaṃ nāvatiṣṭhate / punarapyaṇavo 'pi bhidyamānā aṇutvalakṣaṇena nāvatiṣṭhante" iti /

ye cārupiṇaste 'pi tathaiva vicāryumāṇā niḥsvabhāvā eva / tathā hi, bāhyasya nīlāderarthasyābhāvāt sāmarthyata eva vijñānādayo 'rūpiṇaḥ skandhā nilādirūpeṇa pratibhāsanta ityabhyupeyam / uktaṃ ca bhagavatā-

"bahirdhā nāsti vairūpaṃ svacittaṃ dṛśyate bahiḥ /" iti /

tataśca nīlādicitrākāranirbhāsatayā grāhyagrāhakākāranirbhāsatayā naikasvabhāvā (Bhk 180) amī yuktāḥ / na caikasyānekarūpatā yuktimatī, ekānekavirodhāt / ekasya kasyacit svabhāvasyāsiddhāvanekarūpatāpyayuktimatī, ekasamūharūpatvād anekasya /

athavā tatrālīkā evāmī rūpādaya ākārāḥ pratibhāsanta ityubyupagamyate, tadā vijñānam apyalīkaṃ prāpnoti / vijñānasya tatsvarūpāvyatirekāt / na hi svayaṃ prakāśamānarūpatāvyatirekeṇānyad vijñānasya rūpamasti / svayaṃ ca na nirbhāsante rūpādayaḥ / teṣāṃ ca vijñānasvarūpāpannānām alīkatve sarvameva vijñānam alīkam abhyupetaṃ syāt / tasmād "māyopamaṃ ca vijñānam" ityuktaṃ bhagavatā /

tasmād ekānekasvabhāvaśūnyatvena paramārthato 'līkā evāmī sarvabhāvā iti niścitametat / ayaṃ cārtha ukto bhagavatā laṅkāvatāre-

yathaiva darpaṇe rūpam ekatvānyatvavarjitam /
dṛśyate na ca tatrāsti tathā bhāveṣu bhavatā // iti /

ekatvānyatvavarjitam iti, ekatvānyatvarahitam ityarthaḥ / punaścoktam-

buddhayā vivicyamānānāṃ svabhāvo nāvadhāryate /
ato nirabhilāpyaste niḥsvabhāvāśca darśitāḥ // iti /

tadevaṃ cintāmayyā prajñayā niścitya bhūtamartha tasya pratyakṣīkaraṇāya bhāvanāmayīṃ prajñām utpādayet / "bahuśrutādimātrakeṇā nārthaḥ pratyakṣo bhavatīti niveditam āryaratnameghādiṣu / anubhavaśca pratipattṛṇām, na cāpi sphuṭatarajñānālokodayam antareṇa samyagāvaraṇatamo 'pahīyate / bhāvanābahulīkārataścābhūte (Bhk 181) 'pyarthe sphuṭarajñānam utpadyate / yathā aśubhādipṛthvīkṛtsnādisamāpannānāṃ [jñānodbhavatve] kimpunarbhūte / tathā ca bhāvanāyāḥ parisphuṭajñānaphalatvena sāphalyamuktam āryasamādhirāje-

tatra prathamataraṃ tāvad yoginā śamatho niṣpādanīyaścittasthirīkaraṇāya / salilavaccañcalatvāccittasya, na śamathamādhāramanteraṇa sthitirasti / na cāsamāhitena cetasā yathābhutaṃ śakyate jñātum / uktaṃ hi bhagavatā- "samāhitacitto yathābhūtaṃ prajānāti" iti / śamatho lābhādikāmanānirapekṣasya samyakpravṛttau sthirasya duḥkhādyadhivāsanaśilasyārabdhavīryasya śīghrataraṃ sampadyate / ata eva āryasaṃdhinirvocanādau dānādaya uttarottaratvena varṇitāḥ /

tadevaṃ śīlādiśamathasambhāreṣu sthito mano 'nukūladeśe sarvabuddhabodhisattveṣu praṇāmādikaṃ kṛtvā pāpadeśanāṃ puṇyānumodanāṃ vidhāya sakalajagadabhyuddharaṇāśayo mahākaruṇām evābhimukhīkṛtya kāyam ṛjuṃ praṇidhāya sukhāsanopaviṣṭaḥ paryaṅkamābhujya samādhimabhiniṣpādayet /

tatra prathamaṃ tāvad yad vastu vicārayitavyaṃ yāvatā prakāreṇa saṅkṣepataḥ sakalavastusaṅgraho bhavati tatra cittaṃ badhnīyat / saṅkṣiptaṃ (Bhk 182) punarvastu rūpyarūpibhedena dvidha bhavati / etaccādikarmikasya vikṣepadoṣaparihārārtha saṃkṣiptaṃ tāvad yuktam ālambayitum / yadā tu jitamanaskāro bhavati tadā skandhadhātvādibhedena viśodhya vistaraśo 'pyālambata eva / tathā sandhinirmocanādau yoginām aṣṭādaśaprakāraśūnyatālambanādibhedena nānāprakāram ālambanam uktam /

atraiva bhagavatā sattvānugrahād rūpyarūpyādibhedena saṃkṣepamadhyavistāraiḥ vastubhedo 'bhidharmādau nirdiṣṭaḥ / tacca vastu adhyāropāpavādaparihārāya skandhadhātvādisaṅgrahato gaṇayet / tato niścitya sarvaṃ vastusaṅgrahaṃ tatraiva punaścittaṃ prabandhena prerayet /

yada tvantarā rāgādinā cittaṃ bahirvikṣipet tadāvagamya vikṣepatām aśubhādibhāvanayā vikṣepam upaśāmya punastatraivoparyupari cittaṃ prerayet / aśubhadibhāvanākramastu granthavistarabhayānna likhitaḥ / yadā tu cittaṃ tatrānabhirataṃ paśyet, tada samādherguṇadarśanato 'bhiratiṃ tatra bhāvayet / vikṣepadoṣadarśanād aratiṃ praśamayet / atha yadā styānamiddhābhibhavād āalambanagrahaṇāprakaṭatayālīnaṃ cittaṃ bhavati tadā lokasaṃjñābhāvanayā prāmodyavastubuddhādiguṇamanasikārāt [vā] layaṃ upaśāmya punastadevālambanaṃ dṛḍhataraṃ gṛṇhīyāt /

atha yadā pūrvahasitaramitādyanusmarato 'ntarā cittam uddhataṃ paśyet, tadānityatādisaṃvegamanasikārād auddhatyaṃ praśamayet, tataḥ punastatraivālambane cittasyānabhisaṃskāravāhitāyaṃ yatnaṃ kurvīta / atha yadā layauddhatyabhyāṃ viviktatayā samapravṛttaṃ svarasavāhicittaṃ paśyet tadābhogaśithīlīkaraṇād (Bhk 183) upekṣate / yadā tu samapravṛtte satyābhogaḥ kriyate, tadā cittaṃ vikṣipet /

yadā tu tatrālambane 'nabhisaṃskāravāhi yāvadicchaṃ cittaṃ pravṛttaṃ bhavati, tadā śamatho niṣpanno veditavyaḥ / etacca sarvaśamathānāṃ sāmānyalakṣaṇam, cittaikagratāmātrasvabhāvatvāt / śamathasya / ālambanaṃ tu tasyāniyatameva / ayaṃ ca śamathamārgo bhagavatā āryaprajñāpāramitādau nirdiṣṭaḥ / yad āha- "tatra cittaṃ sthāpayati, saṃsthāpayati, avasthāpayati, upasthāpayati, damayati, śamayati, vyupaśamayati, ekotīkaroti, samādadhāti" iti navapadaiḥ /

tatra sthāpayati, ālambanena badhnāti / saṃsthāpayati, tatraivālambane prabandhena pravartayati / avasthāpayati, vikṣepam avagamya taṃ pariharati / upasthāpayati, vikṣepaṃ parihṛtya uparyupari punastatraivālambane sthāpayati / damayati, ratimutpādayati / śamayati, aratiṃ vyupaśāmayati vikṣepadoṣadarśanāt / vyupaśamayati, styānamiddhādīn vyutthitān vyupaśamayati / ekotīkaroti, ālambane 'nabhisaṃskāravāhitāyaṃ yatnaṃ karoti / samādadhāti, samaprāptaṃ cittam upekṣate samanvāharatītyarthaḥ / eṣa caiṣāṃ padānām arthaḥ pūrvācāryaiḥ maitreyeṇa ca vyākhyātaḥ /

saṃkṣepeṇa sarvasaiva samādheḥ ṣaḍ doṣā bhavanti / kauṣidyam ālambanasaṃpramoṣaḥ, layauddhatyam, anābhogaḥ, ābhogateti / teṣāṃ pratipakṣeṇāṣṭau prahāṇasaṃskārā bhavanīyāḥ / tad yathā- śraddhā, chandaḥ, vyāyāmaḥ praśrabdhiḥ, smṛtiḥ, samprajanyam, cetanā, upekṣā ceti / tatrādyāścatvāraḥ kausīdyasya pratipakṣāḥ / tathā hi- samādherguṇeṣvabhisampratyayalakṣaṇayā śraddhayā tatra yogino 'bhilāṣa utpadyate / tato 'bhilāṣād vīryamarabheta / tadvīryabalena kāyacittakarmaṇyatām (Bhk 184) āsādayati / tataḥ praśrabdhakāyacetasaḥ kausīdyam āvartate / ataḥ śraddhādayaḥ kausīdyaprahāṇāya bhāvanīyāḥ / smṛtirālambanasampramoṣasya pratipakṣaḥ / samprajanyaṃ layauddhatyayoḥ pratipakṣaḥ / tena layauddhatyayoḥ samyagupaṃlakṣaṇāt / layauddhatyāpraśamanakāle tvanābhogadoṣaḥ tatpratipakṣeṇa ca cetanā bhāvanīyā / layauddhatyapraśame sati yadā cittaṃ praśamavāhi tadābhogadoṣaḥ, tatpratipakṣastadānīmupekṣā bhāvanīyā /

ebhiraṣṭābhiḥ prahāṇasaṃskāraiḥ samanvāgataḥ samādhiḥ paramakarmaṇyo bhavati / ṛddhayādīn guṇān niṣpādayati / ata evoktaṃ sūtra- "[aṣṭa]prahāṇa [saṃskāra]samanvāgataḥ ṛddhipādaṃ bhāvayati" iti / eṣā ca cittaikāgratā uttarottarakarmaṇyatāsamprayogād ālambanādiguṇaviśeṣayogācca dhyānārūpisamāpattiḥ vimokṣādivyapadeśaṃ labhate /

tathā hi yadopekṣāvedanāsamprayuktā savitarkasavicārā sā bhavati, tadānāgamyā ucyate [prathamadhyānaprayogacittatvāt] / yadā ca kāmatṛṣṇayā pāpadharmaiśca] viviktā bhavati [vitarkavicāra]prītisukhādhyātmasamprasādaiḥ samprayuktā bhavati, tadā prathamaṃ dhyānam ucyate / ata eva prathamadhyānaṃ vitarkamātrarahitaṃ dhyānāntaramucyate / yadā vitarkavicārarahitā prathamadhyānabhūmitṛṣṇayā viviktā ca bhavati / prītisukhādhyātmasamprasādaiḥ samprayuktā bhavati, tadā dvitīyaṃ dhyānamucyate / yadā tu dvitīyadhyānabhūmitṛṣṇayā viviktā bhavati, sukhopekṣāsmṛtisamprajanyasamprayuktā bhavati, tadā tṛtīyaṃ dhyānam ucyate / yadā tṛtīyadhyānabhūmitṛṣṇayā viviktā bhavati / aduḥkhāsukhā upekṣāsmṛtyabhisamprayuktā bhavati, tadā caturthaṃ dhyānamucyate / evam arūpyasamāpattivimokṣābhibhavāyatanādiṣvālambanākārādibhedena yojyam /

tatrāyam āryalaṅkāvatāre saṃkṣepāt prajñābhāvanākramo nirdiṣṭaḥ-

cittamātraṃ samāruhya bāhyamarthaṃ na kalpayet /
tathatālambane sthitvā cittamātramatikramet //
cittamātramatikramya nirābhāsamatikramet /
nirābhāsasthito yogī mahāyānaṃ sa paśyati //
anābhogagatiḥ śāntā praṇidhānairviśodhitā /
jñānaṃ nirātmakaṃ śreṣṭhaṃ nirābhāse na paśyati // iti /

tatrāyamarthaḥ- prathamaṃ yogī ye rūpiṇo dharmā bāhyārthatayā paraiḥ parikalpitāsteṣu tāvad vicārayet / kimete vijñānād anye, āhosvid vijñānamevaitat tathā pratibhāsate, yathā svapnāvasthāyāmiti / tatra vijñānād bahiḥ paramāṇuśo vicārayet / paramāṇūṃśca bhāgaśaḥ pratyavekṣa- māṇo yogī tān arthānna samanupaśyati / tasyāsamanupaśyata evaṃ bhavati cittamātramevaitat sarvaṃ na punarbāhyo 'rthā vipadyate / tadevam-

"tathatālambane sthitvā tadapi cittamātram atikramet / "

grahakamākāramatikrameta / dvayanirābhāsa eva advayajñāne tiṣṭhedityarthaḥ /

evaṃ cittamātramatikramya tadapi dvayanirābhasaṃ yajjñānaṃ tadatikrameta / svataḥ parato bhāvānāṃ janmānupapatteḥ grāhyagrāhakayoścālīkatve tadavyatirekāt tasyāpi satyatvamayuktamiti vicārayet / tatrāpyadvayajñāne vastutvābhiniveśaṃ tyajet, advayajñānanirābhāsa eva jñāne tiṣṭhedityarthaḥ / evaṃ sati sarvadharmaniḥsvabhāvatāpratipattau sthito bhavati / tatra sthitasya paramatattvapraveśāt nirvikalpasamādhipraveśaḥ /

tathā cādvayajñānanirābhāse jñāne yadā sthito yogī tadā paramatattve sthitatvāt, mahāyānaṃ sa paśyati / etadeva tat mahāyānam ucyate yat paramatattvadarśanam / etadeva tat paramatattvadarśanaṃ yat sarvadharmān prajñācakṣuṣā nirūpayataḥ samyagjñānāvaloke satyadarśanam / tathā coktaṃ sutre- "katamaṃ paramārthadarśanam? sarvadharmāṇām adarśanam /" iti /

atredṛśamevādarśanamabhipretaṃ na tu nimīlitākṣajātyandhānāmiva pratyayavaikalyād amanasikārato vā yadadarśanam /

tato bhāvābhiniveśadiviparyāsavāsanāyā aprahīṇatvād asaṃjñisamāpattyādivyutthitasyeva punarapi bhāvābhiniveśamūlasya rāgādikleśagaṇasyotpatteramukta eva yogī bhavet / bhāvābhiniveśamūlo rāgādiḥ āryasatyadvayanirdeśādau varṇitaḥ / yatpunaruktam avikalpapraveśadhāraṇyām- "amanasikārato rūpādinimittaṃ varjayati" iti / tatrāpi prajñayā nirūpayato yo 'nupalambhaḥ sa tatrāmanasikāro 'bhipreto na manasikārābhāvamātram / na hyasaṃjñisamāpattyādiriva anādikāliko rūpādyabhiniveśo manasikāraparivarjanamātrāt prahīyate /

saṃśayā prahāṇe tu na pūrvopalabdheṣu ca rūpādiṣvabhiniveśamanasikāraparivarjanaṃ śakyaṃ kartum agnyaparivarjane dāhāparivarjanavat / tathāmī rūpādimithyāvikalpāḥ kaṇṭakādivadutkīlya na hastena cetaso 'panetavyāḥ / kiṃ tarhi saṃśayabījāpagamāt / tacca saṃśayabījaṃ yoginaḥ samādhyāloke sati prajñācakṣuṣā nirūpayatastesāṃ rūpādīnāṃ pūrvopalabdhānām upalabdhilakṣaṇaprāptānām anupalambhād, rajjoḥ sarpajñānavad, apagacchati nānyathā / tathā saṃśayabījāpagamād rūpādinimittamanasikāraḥ śakyate varjayituṃ nānyathā / anyathā hyasati samādhyāloke prajñācakṣuṣāpyanavaloke yathā andhakūpāvasthitapuruṣasyāvacarakagataghāṭādiṣviva yogino rūpādiṣvastitvasaṃśayo naiva nivarteta / tadanivṛttyā cā prahīṇatimiradoṣasyeva yo 'yukto 'līkarūpādyabhiniveśaḥ pravarteta na kenāpi nivartyeta /

tasmāt samādhihastena manaḥ sandhāya sūkṣmataraprajñāśastreṇa tatra cetasi rūpādimithyāvikalpabījam uddharet / evam satyutkhātamūlā iva (Bhk 188) taravo bhūmernirmūlatayā mithyāvikalpāḥ punaścetasi na virohanti / ata evāvaraṇaprahāṇāya śamathavipaśyanāyuganaddhavāhī mārgo bhagavatā nirdiṣṭaḥ, tayoḥ avikalpasamyagjñāne hetutvāt / tathā coktam-

śīlaṃ pratiṣṭhāya samādhilābhāḥ samādhilābhācca hi prajñābhāvanā /
prajñayā jñānaṃ bhavati viśuddhaṃ viśuddhajñānasya hi śīlasampat // iti /

tathā hi yadā śamathenālambane cittaṃ sthirīkṛtaṃ bhavati tadā prajñayā vicārayataḥ samyagjñānāloka utpadyate, tadāndhakāramivāloke prakāśayati āvaraṇam apahīyate / ata evānayoścakṣurālokayoriva samyagjñānotpādaṃ pratyanyo 'nyānuguṇyenāvasthitatvānnālokāndhakāravat parasparavirodhaḥ / na hi samādhirandhakārasvabhāvaḥ / kiṃ tarhi cittaikāgratālakṣaṇaḥ / sa ca samāhito yathābhūtaṃ prajānātīti vacanādekāntena prajñānukūla eva bhavati, na tu viruddhastasmāt syāt samāhitasya prajñayā nirūpayataḥ sarvadharmāṇāmanupalambhaḥ / sa eva paramo 'nupalambhaḥ / sā ca tādṛśī yogināmavasthānalakṣaṇā gatiranābhogā, tataḥ paraṃ dṛṣṭavyasyābhāvāt / śānteti bhāvābhāvādivikalpalakṣaṇasya prapañcasyopaśamāt /

tathā hi yadā prajñayā nirūpayan na kiñcid bhāvasvabhāvam upalabhate yogī, tadāsya naiva bhāvavikalpo bhavat / abhāvavikalpo 'pi tasya nāstyeva / yadi bhāvaḥ kadācid dṛṣṭo bhavati, evaṃ sati tanniṣedhenābhāvavikalpaḥ pravartate / yadā tu kālatraye 'pi bhāvo yoginā prajñācakṣuṣā nirūpayatā nopalabdhaḥ, tadā kathaṃ tasya pratiṣedhenābhāvavikalpaṃ kurvīta / evamanye 'pi vikalpāstadā tasya na samutpadyanta eva bhāvābhāvavikalpābhyāṃ (Bhk 189) sarvavikalpasya vyāptatvāt / vyāpakābhāve ca vyāpyasyāsambhavāt / ayamasau paramanirvikalpo yogaḥ / tatra sthitasya yoginaḥ sarvavikalpānām astaṃgamāt samyak kleśāvaraṇaṃ jñeyāvaraṇaṃ ca prahīyate / tathā hi kleśāvaraṇasyānutpannāniruddhabhāveṣu bhāvādiviparyāso mūlaṃ kāraṇam āryasatyadvayanirdeśādau varṇitaṃ bhagavatā /
anena ca yogābhyāsena sarvabhāvādivikalpānāṃ prahāṇāt sakalabhāvādiviparyāsasyāvidyāsvabhāvasya kleśāvaraṇamūlasya prahāṇam / tato mūlocchedāt kleśavaraṇaṃ samyak prahīyate / tathā coktaṃ satyadvayanirdeśe- "kathaṃ mañjuśrīḥ, kleśā vinayaṃ gacchanti, kathaṃ kleśāḥ parijñātā bhavanti? mañjuśrīrāha- paramārthato 'tyantājātānutpannābhāveṣu sarvadharmeṣu saṃvṛtyāsadviparyāsaḥ / tasmād asadviparyāsāt saṅkalpavikalpaḥ / tasmāt saṃkalpavikalpād ayoniśo manasikāraḥ / tasmād ayoniśo manasikārād ātmasamāropaḥ / tasmād ātmasamāropād dṛṣṭiparyutthānam / tasmād dṛṣṭiparyutthānāt kleśāḥ pravartante / yaḥ punaḥ devaputra! paramārthato 'tyantājātānutpannābhāvān sarvadharmān prajānāti, sa paramārthato 'viparyastaḥ / yaśca paramārthato 'viparyastaḥ so 'vikalpaḥ / yaścāvikalpaḥ sa yoniśaḥ prayuktaḥ / yaśca yoniśaḥ prayuktaḥ tasyātmasamāropo na bhavati / yasyātmasamāropo na bhavati tasya dṛṣṭiparyutthānaṃ na bhavati / yāvat paramārthato nirvāṇadṛṣṭisarva dṛṣṭiparyutthānam api na bhavati / tasyaivam anutpādavihāriṇaḥ kleśā atyantaṃ vinītā draṣṭavyāḥ / ayam ucyate kleśavinayaḥ / yadā, devaputra! kleśān nirābhāsena jñānena paramārthato 'tyantaśūnyān atyantābhāvān atyantanirnimittāt prajānāti, tadā devaputra! kleśāḥ parijñātā bhavanti / tatra (Bhk 190) yathāpi nāma, devaputra! ya āśīviṣasya gotraṃ prajānāti / sa tasyāśīviṣasya viṣaṃ śamayati / evameva devaputra! ya kleśānāṃ gotraṃ prajānāti tasya kleśāḥ praśāmyanti / devaputra āha- kataman mañjuśrīḥ! kleśānāṃ gotram / āha- yāvad eṣā paramārthato 'tyantājātānutpannābhāveṣu sarvadharmeṣu kalpanā idaṃ kleśānāṃ gotram" iti vistaraḥ /

bhāvādiviparyāsena ca sakalaviparyāsasya vyāptatvāt / tatprahāṇe sakalaviparyāsaprahāṇād jñeyāvaraṇam apyanena samyak prahīyate, viparyāsalakṣaṇatvād āvaraṇasya / jñeyāvaraṇe ca prahīṇe pratibandhābhāvād ravikiraṇavad apagatameghādyāvaraṇe nabhasi sarvatrāvyāhato yogi pratyakṣo jñānālokaḥ pravartate / tathā hi vastusvabhāvaprakāśarūpaṃ vijñānam / tacca saṃnihitam api vastu pratibandhasadbhāvānna prakāśayati / pratibandhābhāve tu sati, acintyaśaktiviśeṣalābhāt kimiti sakalam eva vastu yathāvad na prakāśayet / ataḥ saṃvṛtiparamārtharūpeṇa sakalasya vastuno yathāvat parijñānāt sarvajñatvam avāpyate / ato 'yam evāvaraṇaprahāṇo sarvajñatvādhigame ca paramo mārgaḥ /

yastu śrāvakādīnāṃ mārgastena viparyāsāprahāṇān na samyag āvaraṇadvayaṃ prahīyate / tathā coktam āryalaṅkāvatāre- "anye tu kāraṇādhīnān sarvadharmān dṛṣṭvānirvāṇe 'pi nirvāṇam iti buddhayo bhavanti / dharmanairātmyādarśanād nāsti mahāmate! mokṣa eṣām / mahāmate, śrāvakayānikābhisamayagotrasyāniryāṇe niryāṇabuddhiḥ / atra mahāmate, (Bhk 191) kudṛṣṭivyāvartanā yogaḥ karaṇīyaḥ" iti / ata eva cānyena mārgeṇa mokṣābhāvād ekam eva yānam uktaṃ bhagavatā /

kevalam [bālena bālasya] avatāraṇābhisandhinā śrāvakādimārgo deśitaḥ / tathā hi sakandha mātramevaitat, na tvātmāstīti bhāvayan śrāvakaḥ pudgalanairātmyam avatarati, vijñaptimātraṃ traidhātukamiti bhāvayan vijñānavādibāhyārthanairātmyamavatarati / anena tvasyadvayajñānasya nairātmyapraveśāt paramatattvapraviṣṭo bhavati / na tu vijñaptimātratāpraveśa eva tattvapraveśaḥ / yathoktaṃ prāk / uktaṃ ca āryalokottaraparivarte "punaraparaṃ bho jinaputra! cittamātraṃ traidhātukam avatarati, tacca cittam anantamadhyatayāvatarati" iti / antayorutpādabhaṅgalakṣaṇayoḥ sthitilakṣaṇasya ca madhyasyābhāvād anantamadhyacittam / tasmād advayajñānapraveśa eva tattvapraveśaḥ /

sā ceyaṃ yoginām avasthā kuto viśodhitā? ityāha-

"praṇidhānairviśodhitā" iti / mahākaruṇayā yat sarvasattvārthakaraṇāya bodhisattvena praṇihitam, tataḥ praṇidhānabalād uttarottaradānādikuśalābhyāsāt sā tathā viśuddhā jāta, yena sarvadharmaniḥsvabhāvatājñāne 'pi sakalasattvāpekṣā na vyāvartate yāvat saṃsāra eva ananuliptāḥ saṃsāradoṣairavatiṣṭhanta iti / kathaṃ punaranābhogā śāntetyatra kāraṇamāha-

jñānaṃ nirātmakaṃ śreṣṭhaṃ nirābhāsena paśyati / iti /

yasmād yad advayalakṣaṇaṃ jñānam advayavādināṃ śreṣṭhaṃ paramārthenābhimataṃ tadapi nirātmakaṃ niḥsvabhāvam advayanirābhāsena jñānena paśyati yogī / ato 'parasya draṣṭavyasyābhāvād anābhogā, sarvavikalpābhāvat śānteti /

atredānīṃ ko 'sau yogī vidyate, yaḥ paśyatīti cet? na paramārthataḥ kaścid ātmādiḥ svatantro 'sti, yogī nāpi kaścit paśyati / kintu saṃvṛtyā yathā rūpādīviṣayākārajñānotpādamātreṇa vijñānameva loke tathā tathā vyavahriyate devadatto yajñadattaṃ jñānena paśyatīti na tu kaścid ātmādirasti / tathātrāpi jñānamevādvayajñānanirābhāsam utpadyamānaṃ tathā vyapadiśyate nirābhāsena jñānena paśyatiti / na hi sarvadharmāṇāṃ paramārthato niḥsvabhāvatve 'pi saṃvṛtyā yogijñānam anyad vā pṛthagjñānaṃ neṣṭam / tathā coktam āryasatyadvayanirdeśe- "paramārthato 'tyantābhāvaśca saṃvṛttyā ca mārga bhāvayati" iti /

anyathā śrāvakapratyekabuddhabodhisattva [buddha]pṛthagjanādivyavasthā kathaṃ bhavet, kintu yasya saṃvṛtyāpi kāraṇaṃ nāsti sa saṃvṛtyāpi notpadyate / yathā śaśaviṣāṇādi / yasya tu [kāraṇaṃ] vidyate sa paramārthato 'līko 'pi samutpadyata eva / yathā- māyāpratibimba [pratidhvani]ādī / na ca māyādeḥ saṃvṛtyā pratītyasamutpāde paramārthato vastutvaprasaṅgaḥ, tasya vicārākṣamatvāt / ataḥ sarvameva māyopamaṃ jagat / tatra yathā kleśakarmamāyāvaśāt sattvānāṃ janmamāyā pravarteta, tathā yogināmapi puṇyajñānasambhāramāyāvaśād yogijñānamāyā pravartata eva / tathā coktam āryaprajñāpāramitāyām- "kaścit śrāvakanirmitaḥ, kaścit pratyekabuddhanirmitaḥ, kaścid bodhisattvanirmitaḥ, kaścit tathāgatanirmitaḥ, kaścit kleśanirmitaḥ kaścit karmanirmitaḥ / anena subhūte, paryāyeṇa sarvadharmā nirmitotpannāḥ" iti / ayaṃ tu viśeṣo yogināṃ pṛthagjanebhyaḥ, te hi māyākāravat tāṃ māyāṃ yathāvat parijñānāt satyato nābhiniviśante, (Bhk 193) tena te yogina ucyante / ye tāṃ bālapṛthagjanavat kautūhalaṃ styatvenābhiniviṣṭāste viparītābhiniveśad bāla ucyante iti sarvamaviruddham / tathā coktam āryadharmasaṅgītau-

māyākāro yathā kaścinnirmita-mokṣamudyataḥ /
na cāsya nirmite saṅgo jñātapūrvo yato 'sya saḥ //
tribhavaṃ nirmitaprakhyaṃ jñātvā sambodhipāragaḥ /
saṃnahyate jagaddhetorjñātapūrvaṃ jagat tathā // iti /

evamanena krameṇa tattvaṃ bhāvayet /

tatra ca layauddhatyādīn vyutthitān pūrvavat praśamayet / yadā tu sarvadharmaniḥsvabhāvatālambane ca layauddhatyādirahitam anabhisaṃskāreṇa pravṛttaṃ jñānaṃ bhavati, tadā śamathavipaśyanāyuganaddhavāhī mārgo niṣpanno bhavati / tathā yāvat śaknoti tāvad adhimuktibalena adhimukticaryābhūmau sthito bhāvayet /

tato yathecchaṃ paryaṅkamābhujya vyutthāya punarevaṃ cintayet / yadi nāmāmī dharmāḥ paramārthata eva niḥsvabhāvā apyete saṃvṛtyā sthitā eva / tathā coktam āryaratnameghe- "kathaṃ bodhisattvo nairātmyakuśalo bhavati? iha kulaputra, bodhisattvaḥ samyakprajñayā rūpaṃ pratyevakṣate, vedanāṃ saṃjñāṃ saṃskārān vijñānaṃ pratyavekṣate / sa rūpaṃ pratyavekṣamāṇo rūpasyotpādaṃ nopalabhate, virodhaṃ nopalabhate, samudayaṃ nopalabhate / evaṃ vedanāyāḥ saṃjñāyāḥ saṃskārāṇāṃ vijñānasyotpādaṃ nopalabhate, nirodhaṃ nopalabhate, samudayaṃ nopalabhate / ayaṃ ca paramārthato 'nutpādavihāriṇyāḥ prajñāyā na punarvyāvahārikeṇa svabhāvena" iti vistaraḥ / ete ca bālabuddhaya evaṃ niḥsvabhāveṣu bhāveṣu (Bhk 194) viparītābhiniveśāt saṃsāre paribhramanto vividhāni duḥkhāni pratyanubhavanti / mahākaruṇām eva āmukhīkṛtya evamanuvicintayet- tathāhaṃ kariṣyāmi yathā sarvajñatvaṃ prāpya eteṣāṃ dharmatāmavabodhayeyamiti /

tataḥ sarvabuddhabodhisattvebhyaḥ pūjāstotropahāraṃ kṛtvā āryabhadracaryāpraṇidhānamabhinirharet / tataḥ śūnyatākaruṇāgarbha eva sakaladānādipuṇyajñānasambhāropārjane pravartate / tathā coktam āryadharmasaṃgītau- "yathābhūtadarśino bodhisattvasya sattveṣu mahākaruṇā pravartate / evaṃ cāsya bhavati- idaṃ mayā samādhimukhaṃ sarvadharmayathābhūtadarśaṃ ca sarvasattvānāṃ nispādayitavyam / sa tayā mahākaruṇayā saṃcodyamāno 'dhiśīlam adhicittam adhiprajñaṃ ca śikṣātrayaṃ paripūryānuttaraṃ samyaksambodhim abhisambudhyate" iti /

ayameva prajñopāyayuganaddhabāhī bodhisattvānāṃ mārgo yat paramārthadarśane 'pi saṃvṛtiṃ nocchedayanti / saṃvṛtiṃ cānucchedayanto mahākaruṇāpūrvaṅgamā aviparyastā eva sattvārthakriyāsu pravartante / uktam āryaratnameghe- "kathaṃ bodhisattvo mahāyānakuśalo bhavati / iha bodhisattvaḥ sarvāsu śikṣāsu śikṣate, śikṣāmārgaṃ ca nopalabhate / yacca śikṣate tadapi nopalabhate / yaśca śikṣyate tamapi nopalabhate / na ca taddhetukaṃ tannidānaṃ tatpratyayam ucchedadṛṣṭau patati" iti / āryadharmasaṃgītau coktam- "katamā bodhisattvānāṃ pratipattiḥ? yat kiñcid bodhisattvānāṃ kāyakarma, yat kiñcid vākkarma, yat kiñcin manaḥkarma, tat sarvasattvāpekṣakaṃ pravartate, mahākaruṇāpūrvaṅgamatvāt / mahākaruṇādhipatyaṃ sarvasattvāhitasukhādhyāśayasamutthitam" iti / ayamevaṃ hitāśayaḥ saṃjñībhavati / sā mayā (Bhk 195) pratipattiḥ pratipattavyā sarvasattvānāṃ hitāvahā sukhāvahā / tasya skandheṣu māyāvat pratyavekṣaṇā pratipattirna ca skandhaparityāgaṃ spṛhayatīti / dhātuṣvāśīviṣavat pratyavekṣaṇā pratipattirna ca dhātuparityāgaṃ spṛhayatīti / āyataneṣu śūnyagrāmavat pratyavekṣaṇāpratipattirna cāyatanaparityāgaṃ spṛhayatīti / rūpasya phenapiṇḍavat pratyavekṣaṇā pratipattirna ca tathāgatarūpakāyaviṭhapanāṃ jahāti / vedanāyā budbudvat pratyavekṣaṇā pratipattirna ca tathāgatadhyānasamādhisamāpattisukhaniṣpadanaprayogaṃ nārabhate / saṃjñāyāṃ marīcivat pratyavekṣaṇā pratipattirna ca tathāgatajñānaniṣpādana apratipattiḥ / saṃskārāṇāṃ kadalīvat pratyavekṣaṇā pratipattirna ca buddhadharmasaṃskārāṇām apratipattiḥ / vijñānasya māyāvat pratyavekṣaṇā pratipattirna ca jñānapūrvaṅgamakāyavāṅmanaskarmaniṣpādanā pratipattiḥ" iti vistaraḥ / evam aparyanteṣu sūtrānteṣu prajñopāyarūpā pratipattiranugantavyā /

tatra yadi nāma lokottaraprajñāvasthāyām upāyasevanā na sambhavati, upāyasevanākāle tu bodhisattvasya māyākāravad aviparyastatvāt lokottarajñānāt prayogapṛṣṭhabhāvani yathāvad vastuparamārthatattvābhiniveśanī prajñāsambhavatyeveti, bhavatyeva prajñopāyayuganaddhavāhī mārgaḥ / āryakṣayamatinirdeśe ca dhyānākṣayatayā prajñopāyayuganaddhavāhī mārgo 'nugantavyaḥ / evamanena krameṇa bodhisattvasya prajñām upāyaṃ ca satataṃ satkṛtya dīrghakālābhyāsena bhāvayato dvādaśāvasthāviśeṣā bhavanti / tā evāvasthā uttarottaraguṇapratiṣṭhārthena bhūmayo vyavasthāpyante / adhimukticaryābhūmeryāvad buddhabhūmiriti /

tatra yāvat pudgaladharmanairātmyatvaṃ na sākṣātkaroti, kevalaṃ dṛḍhatarādhimuktiḥ / mārādibhirapyabhedyo yadādhimuktibalena tattvaṃ bhavayati, tadā (Bhk 196) dṛḍhādhimuktito 'dhimukticaryābhūmirvyavasthāpyate / asyāmapi bhūmau vartamāno bodhisattva pṛthagjano 'pi sarvabālavipattisamatikrānto 'saṃkhyeyasamādhidhāraṇīvimokṣābhijñādiguṇānvita āryaratnameghe paṭhyate /

asyā eva ca mṛdumadhyādhimātrādhimātratarāvasthācatuṣṭayena catvāri nirvedhabhāgīyāni vyavasthāpyante / tathā hi yadā [bāhyārtha vibhāvayatā] īṣatspaṣṭo jñānāloko bhavati tadā uṣmagatanāmakaṃ nirvedhabhāgīyaṃ bhavati / sa cātra mahāyāna ālokalabdhasamādhirucyate / yadā tu sa eva jñānaloko madhyamaspaṣṭo bhavati, tadā mūrdhanāmakanirvedhabhāgīyaṃ bhavati, vṛddhālokaśca samādhirucyate / yadā tu spaṣṭataro bāhyārthānābhāsajñānāloko jāyate, tadā vijñaptimātrāvasthānāt kṣāntināmakaṃ nirvedhabhāgīyaṃ bhavati / ekadeśapraviṣṭaśca samādhirucyate / grāhyakārānupalambhapraveśāt / yadā tu grāhyagrāhakākārarahitam advayaṃ jñānaṃ vibhāvayet tadāgradharmākhyaṃ nirvedhabhāgīyaṃ bhavati / ānantaryaśca sa samādhirucyate, tadanantarameva tattvapraveśāt / atra tāvad adhimukticaryābhūmi /

sa sūkṣmāpattiskhaliteṣu samprajanyavihārī bhavati / yāvanna śaknoti sakalalaukikaṃ samādhiṃ samāpattuṃ yathāśrutaṃ cārtham ādharttuṃ tāvad dvitīyaiva bhūmiḥ / yadā śaknoti, tadā tasyāṅgasya paripūritastṛtīyā bhūmirvyavasthāpyate / asyāṃ ca bhūmau bodhisattvasya śrutadhāraṇyā sarvalaukikasamādhyābhinirhārārthaṃ sarvaduḥkhasahanāt, kṣāntipāramitātiriktatarā bhavati / teṣāṃ samādhīnāṃ lābhād iya bhūmirapramāṇaṃ lokottaraṃ jñānāvabhāsaṃ karotīti prabhākarītyucyate /

sa pratilabdhalaukikasakalasamādhirapi yāvann śaknoti yathāpratilabdhairbodhipakṣairdharmairbahulaṃ vihartuṃ sarvasamāpattīnāṃ ca cittam upekṣituṃ tāvat tṛtīyā bhūmiḥ / yadā tu śaknoti tadā tasyāṅgasya paripūritaścaturthī bhūmirvyavasthāpyate / asyāṃ bhūmau bodhisattvasyābhīkṣṇaṃ kāyavāṅmanojalpasamatikramaṇāaya bodhipakṣairdharmairviharaṇāt, viryaparamitātiriktatarābhavati / iyaṃ ca sakalakleśendhanadāhasamarthasya bodhipakṣadharmārciṣa udgatatvād arciṣmatītyucyate /

so 'bhīkṣṇaṃ bodhipakṣadharmavihārī bhavati / yāvanna śaknoti satyāni bhāvayan saṃsārānabhimukhaṃ nirvāṇābhimukhaṃ ca ceto vyāvartayitum upāyasaṃgṛhītān (Bhk 198) bodhipakṣān dharmān bhāvayitum, tāvaccaturthī bhūmiḥ / yadā tu śaknoti tadāsyāṅgasya paripūritaḥ pañcamī bhūmirvyavasthāpyate / ata evāsyām iyam upāyasaṃgṛhītā bodhipakṣabhāvanā [paripūritena] suṣṭhu duḥkhena jīyate abhyasyatā iti sudurjayetyujyate /

asyāṃ cāryasatyākārabhāvanābahulīkārād dhyānapāramitā atiriktatarā bhavati / upayasaṃgṛhītabodhipakṣabahulavihārī ca bhavati / yāvad na śaknoti saṃsārapravṛttipratyavekṣaṇān nirvitsahayā cittasantatyānimittavihāraṃ samāpattuṃ tāvat pañcamī bhūmiḥ / yadā śaknoti tadāsyāṅgasya paripūritaḥ ṣaṣṭhī bhūmirvyavasthāpyate / asyāṃ ca bodhisattvasya pratītyasamutpādabhāvanāvihārāt prajñāpāramitātiriktatarā bhavati / ata eva prajñāpāramitāyā atiriktataratvāt sarvabuddhadharmeṣu abhimukho 'syāṃ bhūmau vartata iti kṛtvā abhimukhītyucyate /

so 'nimittavihāralābhī bhavati / yāvanna śaknoti niśchidram animittavihāraṃ samāpattum, tāvat ṣaṣṭhī bhūmiḥ / yadā śaknoti tadāsyāṅgasya paripūritaḥ saptamī bhūmirvyavasthāpyate / asyāmapi bhūmau bodhisattvaḥ sarvanimittaṃ nirnimittena pratividhyati nimittakṛtavyavahāraṃ ca na virodhayati / ato 'syām upāyapāramitātiriktatarā bhavati / iyaṃ ca bhūmiranābhogamārgopaśleṣāt suṣṭhu dūraṅgamād dūraṅgamā /

sa niśchidrānimittāvihāri bhavati / yāvanna śaknotyanābhogavāhinam animittavihāraṃ samāpattuṃ tāvat saptamī bhūmiḥ / yadā śaknoti tadāsyāṅgasya paripūrito 'ṣṭamī bhūmirvyavasthāpyate / asyāṃ ca bhūmau anābhogena kuśalapakṣayogāt praṇidhānapāramitātiriktatarā bhavati / animittābhogāprakampyatvād iyam acaletyucyate /

tasmāt prekṣavadbhiḥ sarvaguṇākareṣu bhagavatsu śraddhā utpadanīyā, tadguṇaparisādhanārthaṃ sarvaprakāreṇa prayatitavyam / trikāyadivibhāgastu granthavistarabhayānna likhyate /

nayasyānusāreṇa sūtrasya cāṭha saduktyāsya mārgasya jinaputrakāṇām /

namo mañjuśriye kumārabhūtāya /

mahāyānasūtranayānupraviśyamānānāṃ bhāvanākramaḥ saṃkṣepataḥ kathyate / iha atīśighraṃ sarvajñatāprāptukāmena prekṣāvatā tatprāpaka-hetu-pratyayebhyo 'bhiyogaḥ karaṇīyaḥ /

itthamiyaṃ sarvajñatā tu hetuṃ vinā bhavituṃ na yujyate, sarvasyāpi sarvadā sarvajñatābhāvaprasaṅgatvāt / nirapekṣabhāve tu kutrāpi pratigho na syād, yato hi sarve 'pi sarvajñā eva na bhavanti / kiṃ tarhi kasyacit kadācit kiñcinmātraṃmūtatvāt sarvaṃ hi vastu hetusāpekṣameva / sarvajñatāpi kutracit kadācit kiñcit saṃbhāvyate / sarvasminnapi kāle nāsti, sarvasmin sthāne nāsti, sarvamapi nāsti, tasmāt sā tu niyatameva hetupratyayasāpekṣā / taddhetupratyayeṣvapi abhrāntā avikalāśca sevitavyāḥ / bhrantahetvanuṣṭhāne tu atidīrghakālenāpi na iṣṭaphala-prāptiḥ / yathā-śṛṅgāt payodohavat / sakalahetusevanaṃ vināpi na phalotpādaḥ / bījādiṣu kasyacidapi abhāve aṅkurādiphalānutpādāt / tasmāt tatphalakāmenābhrāntasakalaṃ hetupratyayaṃ sevanīyam /

ke hetupratyayāḥ sarvajñatāphalasya iti? ucyate, mādṛśo jātyandhasadṛśastān darśayituṃ na śaknoti, tathāpi bhagavataivābhisaṃbuddhaya vineyajanebhyo yathoktaṃ tathaiva mayā bhagavadvacanenaiva kathyate / bhagavāṃstan avocat- "guhyādhipate! tat sarvajñajñānaṃ karuṇāmūlaṃ bodhicittahetukam upāyaparyavasānam" iti / tasmāt sarvajñatāmadhigantukāmaiḥ karuṇā-bodhicittopāyeṣu eteṣu triṣu śikṣitavyam /

karuṇayā preryamāṇā bodhisattvāḥ sarvasattvābhyuddhāraṇartham avaśyaṃ pratijñāsyanti / ataḥ svātmadṛṣṭiṃ nirākṛtya atiduṣkarāvichinna-dīrghakāla-sādhītapuṇyajñānasambhāreṣu (Bhk 202) ādareṇa pravṛttiḥ / tatra praviśya paripūrṇa puṇyajñānasambhāram avaśyaṃ sādhayati / sambhārāpariniṣpattau sarvajñatā karatalagatavad bhaviṣyati / tarhi sarvajñatāmūlaṃ tu karuṇāyā eva bhūtatvāt sā tu prathamatarameva bhavanīyā / āryadharmasaṃgītisūtre- "na bhagavan bodhisattvena atibahuṣu dharmeṣu śikṣitavyam / eko dharmo bhagavan bodhisattvena svārādhitaḥ supratibiddhaḥ kartavyaḥ / tasya sarvabuddhadharmāḥ karatalagatā bhavanti / katama ekadharmaḥ? yaduta mahākaruṇā /" iti /

mahākaruṇāparigṛhītatvād bhagavanto buddhāḥ sakalasvārthasampattilābhe 'pi sattvadhātuparyavasānaparyantaṃ tiṣṭhanti / śrāvakavad atiśānte 'pi nirvāṇanagare na praviśantiṃ / sattvān avalokya tacchāntanirvāṇanagaraṃ prajvaladayogṛhavad dūraṃ tyaktatvād bhagavatām apratiṣṭhitanirvāṇahetustu sā mahākaruṇā eva /

atra sa karuṇābhāvanākramaḥ prathamapraveśādārabhya abhidhātavyaḥ / saṃprati upekṣābhāvanayā sarvasattveṣu anurāgaṃ dveṣaṃ ca nirasya samācittatā prathamaṃ niṣpādayitavyā /

sarve sattvāḥ sukhaṃ kāmayante, duḥkhaṃ tu na kāmayante / anādimati ca saṃsāre na kaścit sattvo yo nābhūt śataśo me bandhuriti paricintaya- taścātra ko viśeṣaḥ syāt? tarhi kasmiṃścid anurāgaḥ kasmiṃścicca dveṣo bhavet, tasmān mayā sarveṣu sattveṣu cittasamataiva kāryā iti / evaṃ manasikāreṇa madhyasthapakṣata ārabhya mitre śatrau cacittasamatāmeva bhāvayet / tataḥ sarvasattveṣu cittasamatāṃ sādhayitvā maitrīṃ bhāvayet / maitrījalena cittasaṃtānaṃ siṃcayitvā vidyamānasuvarṇabhūmivat kṛtvā karuṇābījavapane sukhena atisuvistāro bhaviṣyati / tataścittasaṃtānaṃ maitryā vāsayitvā karuṇāṃ bhāvayet /

sā ca karuṇā sarvapīḍitasattvaduḥkhāvagamecchākārāsti / lokatrayasya sarvasattvānāṃ trividhaduḥkhatayā yathāyogam atyantaduḥkhitatvāt tadartha sarvasattveṣu sā bhāvanīyā / tathā ca ye tāvannākārakāste vividhacirantanadīrghakālikadāhādi-dukheḥṣu nimagnā eva bhāvato varṇitāḥ / tathā pretā api prāyo duḥsahatīvrakṣuttṛṣuduḥkhāgnyabhisaṃśoṣitamūrtayo bahuduḥkhamanubhavanti iti varṇitāḥ / tiryañco 'pi parasparabhakṣaṇakrodhavadhahiṃsādibhiranekavidhaṃ duḥkhamanubhavanto dṛśyanta eva / manuṣyā api kāmaparyeṣaṇākārpaṇyād anyo 'nyadrohopadhātakṛtaṃ priyaviprayogāpriyasaṃyogaṃ dāridrayādyutpannam aprameyaṃ duḥkhamanubhavanto dṛśyanto /

ye rāgādinānā-saṃkleśaparyaveṣṭitacittāḥ, ye ca vividhakudṛṣṭigahananimagnāste sarve 'pi duḥkhahetutvāt prapatasthā iva atiduḥkhitā eva / devā api sarvavipariṇāmaduḥkhaduḥkhitā eva / devā api ye kāmavacarāste 'pi nityacyavanapatanādibhayaśkopahatāḥ kathaṃ sukhitā nāma? saṃskāradu khaṃ tu karmakleśalakṣaṇaṃ hetuparatantrasvabhāvaṃ pratikṣaṇabhaṅgurasvabhāvalakṣaṇaṃ ca sakalajagati vyāptam / tasmāt sakalameva jagad duḥkhāgnijvālāntarapraviṣṭam avetya yathā mama duḥkham apriyam anyeṣāmapi tādṛśam iti cintayatā / aho bata! duḥkhitā mamaite priyasattvāstu kathaṃ tadduḥkhamuktāḥ syuriti svātmaduḥkhavat kṛtvā tannivāraṇecchākārayā karuṇayā samādhyavasthāyāṃ sarvacaryāsu vāpi sarvadā sarvasattvān bhāvayet / prathamaṃ tāvad mitrapakṣeṣu anubhūtapūrvoktavividhaduḥkheṣu anupaśyatā bhāvanīyā /
tataḥ sattvasamatayāviśeṣamapaśyatā 'sarve sattvāstu me bandhubhūtā eva' iti paricintayatā madhyamapakṣeṣu bhavanīyā / yadā tatra mitrapakṣeṣviva sā karuṇā tulyā pravṛttā bhavati tadā daśasu dikṣu sarvasattveṣu bhāvayet / yadā duḥkhitapriyaśiśoḥ mātṛvat svātmano 'tipriyaṃ duḥkhata uddaraṇecchākārā svarasavāhinīṃ sarvasattveṣu samapravṛttā kṛpā bhavati tadā sā niṣpannā bhavati, mahākaruṇāvyapadeśaṃ ca labhate /

prathamaṃ tāvad mitrapakṣe kṛtā maitrībhāvanā sukhasaṃyogecchākārā bhavati, kramaśaḥ vyasteṣu śatruṣu cāpi bhāvanīyā / tathābhyastā ca sā karuṇā kramaśaḥ sakalasattvābhyuddharaṇecchāṃ svarasena eva utpādayati /

ato mūlakaruṇāṃ bhāvayitvā bodhicittaṃ bhāvayet / tad bodhicittaṃ tu dvividham- saṃvṛtaṃ paramārtha ca / tatra saṃvṛtaṃ tu karuṇayā sakalasattvābhyuddharaṇaṃ pratijñāya 'jagaddhitāya buddho bhaveyam' iti, anuttarasamyaksambodhicchākāraḥ prathamaścittotpādaḥ / tathāpi śīlaparivartapradarśita-vidhivad bodhisattvaḥ saṃvarasthitānyavidvatsu cittamutpādayet /

tathā saṃvṛtabodhicittamutpādya paramārthabodhicittotpādārthaṃ prayatitavyam / tacca paramārthagocaram, vimalam, acalam, nirvātapradīpapravāhavanniṣkampam / tatsiddhistu satataṃ satkṛtya dīrghakālaṃ śamathavipaśyanāyogabhāvanākaraṇād bhaviṣyati / āryasaṃdhinirmocane yathā "maitreya! śrāvakāṇāṃ bodhisattvānāṃ tathāgatānāṃ vā ye 'pi sarve 'pi laukikalokottarakuśaladharmāḥ śamathavipaśyanāphalā veditavyā iti /" taddvayoḥ sarvasamādhisaṃgṛhītatvāt sarvayogibhiḥ sadā avaśyaṃ śamathavipaśyane sevanīye / tatraiva āryasaṃdhinirmocane bhagavatā uktam, tadyathā- "mayā śrāvakāṇāṃ bodhisattvānāṃ tathāgatānāṃ vividhasamādhayo darśitāḥ, te sarve śamathavipaśyanāsaṃgṛhītā veditavyāḥ" iti /

kevalaṃ śamathamātrabhāvanayā na yoginām āvaraṇaprahāṇam, kleśavikrāntimātrameva tāvat / prajñālokābhāve 'nuśayahānyasaṃbhavād anuśayasaṃhāro na bhaviṣyati / tasmāt tatraiva āryasaṃdhinirmocane uktam "dhyānena hi kleśānāṃ vikrāntiḥ / prajñayā tu anuśayaṃ saṃpratihanti iti" /

āryasamādhirājasūtre 'pi-

kiṃ cāpi bhāveyya samādhiloke na co vibhāveyya sa ātmasaṃjñām /
punaḥ prakupyanti kileśu tasya yathodrakasyeha samādhibhāvanā /
nairātmyadharmān yadi pratyavekṣate tān pratyavekṣya yadi bhāvayet /
sa hetu nirvāṇaphalasya prāptaye yo anyaheturna sa bhoti śāntaye // iti uktam /

bodhisattvapiṭake 'pi- "ye bodhisattvapiṭakasya etaddharmaparyāyāśravaṇe, āryavinayadharmaśravaṇaṃ ca vinā samādhimātreṇa saṃtoṣagrahaṇe tu ahaṃkāravaśād abhimāne patitāḥ janmajarārogamaraṇaśokaparidevanāduḥkhadaurmanasyakopāparimuktāḥ / ṣaḍgatisaṃsārāparimuktāḥ duḥkhaskandhato 'pi aparimuktāḥ / tān saṃdhāya tathāgatena evam uktam- parasmād anukūlaśrotā tu jarāmaraṇamukto bhaviṣyati" iti /

tasmāt sakalāvaraṇaṃ vihāya viśuddhajñānodbhavakāmena śamathe sthitvā prajñā bhāvanīyā / evam āryaratnakūṭe 'pi bhāṣitam-

śīlaṃ pratiṣṭhāya samādhilābhaḥ samādhilābhācca hi prajñābhāvanā /
prajñāyā jñānaṃ bhavati viśuddhaṃ viśuddhajñānasya hi śīlasampat // iti /

āryamahāyānaśraddhābhāvanāsūtre 'pi uktam- "kulaputra! prajñāyām anupasthitau bodhisattvānāṃ mahāyānaśraddhā mahāyāne kathamapi utpatsyate (iti) ahaṃ na vakṣyāmi / kulaputra! anena paryāyeṇāpi evaṃ bodhisattvānāṃ (Bhk 206) yā kācid mahāyānaśraddhā mahāyāne utpatsyate sā sarvā tu avikṣiptacittena dharmārthasaṃcintanāt samutpannā veditavyā / "

śamathaṃ vinā vipaśyanāmātreṇa yogicittaṃ viṣayeṣu vikṣipyate, vāyumadhyasthitapradīpavacca sthiraṃ na bhavati / ato jñānāloko 'tisphuṭo na bhavati / tasmād ubhayaṃ samaṃ sevitavyam / ataḥ āryamahāparinirvāṇasūtre 'pi uktam- "śrāvakaistu tathāgatagotraṃ na dṛśyate / samādheradhikatvāt prajñāyāśca alpatvāt bodhisattvāstu paśyanti, kintu asphuṭam, prajñātirekāt samādheścālpatvāt / tathāgatastu sarvam avalokayati śamathavipaśyanāsamānayuktatvād" iti / śamathabalena ca vāyunā akṣobhyapradīpavad vikalpavāyubhiścittaṃ na kampate / vipaśyanayā tu sakalakudṛṣṭimalaprahāṇatvād anyairabhedyā / candrapradīpasutre yathā-

akampiyaḥ śamathabalena bhoti śailopamo bhoti vipaśyanāya /

tatra ādau saṃprati tena yoginā sukhaṃ śīghraṃ ca śamatha-vipaśyanāsiddhaye śamathavipaśyanāsambhāraḥ sevanīyaḥ / tatra śamathasaṃbhāraḥ katamaḥ? anukūladeśavāsaḥ, alpecchatā, santuṣṭiḥ, kriyābāhulyaparihāraḥ, śīlaviśuddhiḥ icchādivikalpaparityāgaśca /

tatra pañcaguṇayukto hi deśo 'nukūlo jñātavyaḥ / vastrabhojanādeḥ akṛcchreṇa prāptitvāt sulabdhaḥ, durjanaśatrvādyanavasthitatvāt susthānam, nīrogabhūmitvāt subhūmiḥ, mitraśīlavatsamadṛṣṭitvāt sanmitram, divā bahujanāpūritatvād rātrau alpaśabdatvācca syuyuktam / alpecchatā katamā? cībarāderautkṛṣṭamasya ādhikyasya vā anadhyavasanam / saṃtuṣṭiḥ katamā? (Bhk 207) abaramātracivarāḍilābhena yaḥ sadā santoṣaḥ / kriyābāhulyaparihāraḥ katamaḥ? krayavikrayādiduṣkarmaparihāraḥ, gṛhastha-pravrajitānyatamātisaṃstutipariharaḥ, oṣadhinirmāṇanakṣatragaṇānādiparihāraśca /

śīlaviśuddhiḥ katamā? saṃvaradvaye 'pi prakṛti-pratikṣepasāvadyaśikṣāpadābhaṅgatā, pramādabhaṅge 'pi śīghrātiśīghraṃ paścāttāpena yathādharmācaraṇam / śrāvakasaṃvare pārājikapratividhāne 'yogyaṃ kathanaṃ yadasti tasminnapi paścāttāpaḥ, paścācca akaraṇa-manasikāraḥ / yaccittena yatkarmaṃ kṛtam, taccitte niḥsvabhāvatāpratisaṃkhyānad sarvadharmaniḥsvabhāvatābhāvanātvāt tatchīlaviśuddhireva vaktavyā / tattu āryājātaśatrukaukṛtyavinodanād avaboddhavyam / tasmāt kaukṛtyābhāvaṃ kṛtvā bhāvanāyām abhiyogaḥ karttavyaḥ /

kāmeṣvapi iha janmāntare ca bhāvino vividhadoṣān manasikṛtya teṣu vikalpaḥ pariharttavyaḥ / etāvatā saṃsārabhāvaḥ priyo 'priyo vāpi tatsarvaṃ tu vināśadharmi asthiraṃ ca / niścayena tatsarvasmin mayi ca aciraṃ viyoge bhāve sati mama tasmin katham adhyavasitādirbhaved iti bhāvanayā sarve vikalpāḥ pariharttavyāḥ /

vipaśyanā-sambhāraḥ katamaḥ? satpuruṣāśrayaḥ, bahuśrutaparyeṣaṇā, yoniśomanasikāraśca / tatra kīdṛśaṃ satpuruṣam āśrayed iti cet- yo bahuśrutaḥ prasannavāk, kāruṇiko nirvitsahaśca / tatra bahuśrutaparyeṣṭiḥ katamā? yat sādaraṃ bhagavaddvādaśāṅgadharmapravacananeyārthanītārthātiśravaṇam / ittham āryasaṃdhinirmocane- "yatheccham āryākhyānāśravaṇaṃ hi vipaśyanāvighnaḥ" iti uktam / tatraiva "vipaśyanā ca śravaṇamananābhyāmutpannaviśuddhadṛṣṭihetorūtpadyate /" ityuktam / āryānārāyaṇaparipṛcchāyām api- "śrutimati prajñāpradurbhavati / prajñāvataḥ kleśāḥ praśāmyanti /" ityuktam /

yoniśomanasikāraḥ katamaḥ? yasya nītārthasūtraneyārthasūtrādisunirṇayastādṛśe bodhisattve niḥśaṅke sati bhāvanāyām aikāntikaniścayo bhaviṣyati / anyathā saṃśayāndolitayānasthitastu śṛṅgāṭakamadhyagatamanuṣyavat kutrāpi aikāntikaniścayo na bhaviṣyati /

yoginā tu sadā matsyamāṃsādi parihṛtya apratikūlaṃ bhojanaṃ niyatamātrakaṃ bhoktavyam / tathā tena sāñcitasakalaśamathavipaśyanāsambhāreṇabodhisattvena bhāvanāyāṃ praveṣṭavyam /

tatra prathamaṃ tāvad yogī bhāvanākāle sarvam itikaraṇīyaṃ parisamāpyaṃ kṛtamūtrapurīṣaḥ kaṇṭakasvarādirahite mano 'nūkūle pradeśe sthitvā mayā sarvasattvā bodhimaṇḍe niṣpādayitavyā iti viniścayan, sakalajagadabhyuddharaṇāśayo mahākaruṇām āmukhīkṛtya daśadigavasthitān sarvabuddhabhodhisattvān pañcāṅgena praṇipatyāgrato buddhabodhisattvan paṭādau sthāpayitvā anyatra vā yathāvat tebhyaśca yathāruci pūjāstavanaṃ kṛtvā svapāpaṃ pradeśya, sakalasya jagataḥ puṇyam anumodya, mṛdutarasukhāsane vairocanabhaṭṭārakabaddhaparyaṅkena ardhaparyaṅkena vā niṣpādya nātyunmūīlite nātinimīlite nāsikāgravinyaste cakṣuṣī kṛtvā, nātinamraṃ nātistabdham ṛjukāyaṃ praṇidhāyāntarmukhāvarjitasmṛtirupaviśet / tataḥ skandhau samau sthāpayet / śiro nonnatam nāvanataṃ eka-pārśve niścalaṃ sthāpayitavyam / kiṃ tarhi nābhipraguṇā nāsikā sthāpayitavyā / dantoṣṭhaṃ mṛdu sthāpanīyam / jivhā coparidantamūle sthāpanīyā / āśvāspraśvāsāstu na saśabdā nāpi sthūlā nāpi tvaritāḥ karaṇīyāḥ / kiṃ tvasaṃlakṣyamāṇā mandaṃ mandamanābhogena yathā praviśeyurnirgaccheyurvā tathā karaṇiyam /

tatra prathamaṃ tāvat śamatho nispādayitavyaḥ, bāhyaviṣayavikṣepaśānteḥ āntarālambane satataṃ svarasavāhi prītiprasrabdhivaccitta eva sthitistu śamatha iti ucyate / tasyaiva śamathasyālambanakāle yastattva-vicāraḥ sā vipaśyanā / āryaratnameghe yathā- "śamathaścittaikāgratā / vipaśyanā bhūtapratyavekṣeti" uktam /

tatra śamathābhinirhārakāmo yogī prathamaṃ tāvat sūtrageyādisakalapravacanaṃ tu tathatāparāyaṇam, tathatāpragbhāram, tathatāpravaṇama iti sarvaṃ saṃgrāhya tatra cittam upasthāpayet / etāvatā kiyadākāreṇa sarvadharmasaṃgrahabhute skandhādau tatra cittam upasthāpayet / etāvatā yathādṛṣṭa-yathāśrutabuddhapratimāyāṃ cittaṃ sthāpitavyam / āryasamādhirāje yathā-

suvarṇavarṇena samucchrayeṇa samantaprāsādiku lokanāthaḥ /

tathā yatra icchālambanaṃ tasmin cittaṃ sthāpayitvā tatraiva uparyupari satataṃ cittaṃ sthāpayet / tatra upasthāpya cittam īdṛśamevaṃ parīkṣeta / 'kim ālambanaṃ sugṛṇhāti līyate vā athavā bāhyaviṣayavyasekād vikṣipyate iti parīkṣitavyam / tatra yadi styānamiddhābhibhavād cittaṃ līnaṃ vā layābhiśaṅkā darśane tatkāle pramodya vastuni buddhapratimādau vā alokasaṃjñāmanasikaraḥ kartavyaḥ / atha layam upaśāmya yathāpi tatraiva ālambane cittālambanam atisphuṭadarśanaṃ bhavati tathā karaṇiyam /

yadā tu jātyandhavad andhakārapraviṣṭapuruṣavad vā vinimīlitākṣavad vā cittam ālambanaṃ atisphuṭaraṃ na paśyati tadā līnaṃ veditavyam / yadā bāhyarūpādau teṣāṃ guṇakalpanayā dhāvanena, anyamanasikāreṇa vā pūrvānubhūtaviṣayecchayā cittauddhatyaṃ vā auddhatyaśaṅkādarśanaṃ vā tadā sarve saṃskārā anityā duḥkhādimanosaṃvegavastu manasi karttavyam / tataḥ vikṣepaśāntiṃ kṛtvā smṛtisamprajanyarajjunā manonāgaḥ tadālambanastambhe eva bandhitavyaḥ / yadā layauddhatye na bhavataḥ tadālambena cittapraśamavahitāṃ paśyet, tadā ābhogaśithilikaraṇād upekṣayā tatkāle yāvadicchaṃ tiṣṭhet / itthaṃ bhāvitaśamathasya taccharīrasya cittasya ca praśrabdhirbhaviṣyati / yathecchālambane cittaṃ svavaśe bhaviṣyati / tadā śamatho niṣpanno veditavyaḥ /

tataḥ śamathaṃ niṣpādya vipaśyanāṃ bhāvayet / īdṛśaṃ ca mantavyam bhagavataḥ sarvavacanaṃ tu subhaṣitam, sākṣāt paramparayā vā tattvapratyakṣavyañajanaṃ tattvaparāyaṇameva ca / tattvajñāne ālokobhdavāt tamonirāsavat sarvadṛṣṭijālaviyogo bhaviṣyati / śamathamātreṇa jñānaśuddhirna bhaviṣyati, āvaraṇa-tamonirāsaścāpi na bhaviṣyati / prajñayā ca tattvasamyagbhāvanāyāṃ jñānaviśuddhirbhaviṣyati / prajñayā eva tattvamavagamyate prajñayaiva āvaraṇaṃ samyak prahīyate / (Bhk 211) tasmānmayā śamathe sthitvā prajñayā tattvaṃ paryeṣitavyam / śamathamātreṇa saṃtoṣo na karaṇīya iti vicāraṇīyam /

kīdṛśaṃ ca tattvam iti cet? yat paramārthataḥ sarvavastupudgala dharmātmaśūnyam, tatprajñāparimitayā adhigamyate na cānyathā / āryasaṃdhinirmocane yathoktam "bhagavan! kayā pāramitayā bodhisattvaḥ dharmaniḥsvabhāvatāṃ gṛṇhīyāt? avalokiteśvara! prajñāpāramitayā gṛhyate /" iti / tasmāt śamathe sthitvā prajñāṃ bhāvayet /

tatraivaṃ yogī vicārayet, 'pudgalaḥ na skandhadhātvāyatanavyatirikta upalabhyate / na cāpi pudgalaḥ skandhādisvabhavaḥ / te skandhādayastu anityāḥ, anekasvabhāvatvāt pudgalasya ca nityaikarūpeṇa parairupakalpitatvāt / nāpi tattvānyatvābhyām anabhilāpyapudgalasya vastutvaṃ yuktam / vastusataḥ prakārāntarābhāvāt / tasmāt tadyathā bhrama eva ayaṃ lokasya yadutāhaṃ memeti vicāritavyam /

dharmanairātmyamapi evaṃ bhavanīyam / dharma iti saṃkṣepataḥ pañcaskandho dvādaśāyatanam, aṣṭādaśadhātavaśca / tatra ye ca skandhāyatanadhāturūpiṇaḥ, na te paramārthataḥ cittākāravyatiriktāḥ / tatparamāṇuśo vibhāge paramāṇavo 'pi bhāgaśaḥ svabhāvatāpratyavekṣamāṇāḥ svabhāvaniścayagrahaṇābhāvāt / tasmād anādikālikavitatharūpādyabhiniveśavaśāt svapnopalabhyamānarūpādipratibhāsavad bālānāṃ cittameva bahiḥ vicchinnamiva rūpādipratibhāsaṃ khyāti / paramārthatastatra rūpādistu na cittākāravyatirikta iti vicārayet / tad evaṃ traidhātukamidaṃ tu cittamātramiti cintayet / sa evaṃ cittameva sakaladharmaprajñaptiṃ niścitya tatra pratyavekṣya ca sarvadharmāṇāṃ svabhāvaḥ pratyavekṣito bhavatīti cittasvabhāvamapi pratyavekṣate / sa evaṃ vicārayati /

cittamapi paramārthaḥ satyaṃ bhavitum na yujyate / yadā hi alīkasvabhāvarūpādyākaropagrahaṇe cittameva citrākāraṃ pratibhāsate, tadā satyatvaṃ kutra bhavet / yathā rūpādī (Bhk 212) alīkaṃ tathā cittamapi tadavyatiriktatvād alīkameva / yathā citrākāratayā rūpādayo naikānekasvabhāvāḥ tathā cittamapi tadavyatirekeṇa anikānekasvabhāvam / tasmāt māyādisvabhāvopamameva cittam /

yathā cittamevaṃ sarvadharmā api māyāsvabhāvasadṛśā eva iti vicārayet / tena tathā prajñayā cittasvabhāve pratyevekṣamāṇe paramārthataḥ cittam abhyantare 'pi nopalabhate, bāhye 'pi nopalabhate, anubhayo 'pi nopalabhate, atītacittamapi nopalabhate, anāgatamapi nopalabhate, pratyutpannamapi nopalabhate / nāpi cittamutpādyamānaṃ kuto 'pyāgacchati, nāpi nirudhyamānaṃ kvacidapi gacchati / cittaṃ tu agrāhyam anirdeśyam, arūpam ca / anirdeśyam agrahyam arūpam ca yadasti tasya svabhāvaḥ kīdṛśaḥ? tathā āryaratnakūṭe yathoktam- "kāśyapa! cittaṃ tu parigaveṣyamāṇaṃ na labhyate / yanna labdhaṃ tanna ālambyate yacca nālambyate / tannātītam, nānāgatam, na ca pratyutpannam /" iti vistaraḥ / tad evaṃ parīkṣyamāṇe cittasya ādiṃ na samanupasyati, antaṃ na samanupaśyati madhyaṃ na samanupaśyati /

yathā ca cittam anantamadhyaṃ tathā sarvadharmānapi anantamadhyam avagacchet / tena tadevaṃ cittam anantamadhyam avagamya kimapi cittasvabhāvaṃ nopalabhate / yadapi cittaṃ parīkṣyate tadapi śūnyaṃ pratividhyati / tatpratividhyamāne cittaviṭhapanāsvabhāvaṃ rūpādisvabhāvamapi na samanupaśyati / tena tathā prajñayā sarvadharmasvabhāvasya asamanudarśanatvād rūpaṃ nityam anityaṃ vā, śūnyam aśūnyaṃ vā, sāsravam anāsravaṃ vā, utpannam anutpannaṃ vā, bhāvo 'bhāvo vetī na vikalpayati / yathā rūpaṃ na vikalpayati tathā vedanāsaṃjñāsaṃskāravijñāneṣvapi na vikalpayati / asiddhe dharmiṇi tasya viśeṣaṇānāmapi asiddhatvāt, tatra kathaṃ vikalpayet / tad evaṃ prajñayā parīkṣyamāṇo (Bhk 213) yadā yoginā kasyacid vastunaḥ svabhāvaparamārthaniścayo na gṛhyate, tadā nirvikalpasamādhau praviśati / sarvadharmaniḥsvabhāvatā api avagamyate /

yaḥ prajñayā vastusvabhāvaṃ pratyavekṣya na bhāvayan, manasikāraparihāramātraṃ bhāvayati, tasya vikalpaḥ kadāpi na nivartate, na ca niḥsvabhāvatāvabodho 'pi bhaviṣyati, prajñālokābhāvāt / evaṃ samyakpratyavekṣaṇāt samyagyathāvajjñānāgnibhāve 'raṇimanthanāgnivat kalpanāvṛkṣo dahyate iti bhagavatā uktam /

tathā uktam āryaratnameghe- "sa evam apakṣālakuśalaḥ sarvaprapañcavigamāya śūnyatābhāvanāya yogamāpadyate / sa śūnyatābhāvanabahulo yeṣu yeṣu sthāneṣu cittaṃ prasarati, cittamabhiramate, tāni tāni sthānāni svabhāvataḥ parigaveṣamāṇaḥ śūnyaṃ pratividhyati / yat cittaṃ tadapi parīkṣamāṇaḥ śūnyaṃ pratividhyati, yenāpi cittena parīkṣate tad api svabhāvataḥ śūnyaṃ parigaveṣyamāṇaṃ pratividhyati / sa evam upaparīkṣamāṇo nirnimittatāyāṃ yogamāpadyate /" iti bhavati / anena tu paryavekṣaṇapūrvagāmitāyāḥ nirnimittatāpraveśaṃ darśayati / manasikāraparihāramātram, prajñayā vastusvabhāvatāṃ ca avicārya, avikalpatāpraveśam asaṃbhāvya, atisphuṭataraṃ darśayati / tathā tayā prajñayā rūpādivastusvabhāvaṃ samyag yathāvat parīkṣya dhyāyati, rūpādau sthitvā dhyānaṃ na karoti / ihalokaparalokayormadhye sthitvā dhyānaṃ na karoti, tadrūpādyanupalambhāt / tasmād apratiṣṭhitadhyāna iti ucyate /

prajñayā skalavastusvabhāvatāṃ prativīkṣya yasmād anupalambhaṃ dhyāyati- tasmāt prajñottaradhyāyī iti ucyate / āryagaganagañja-āryaratnacūḍādiṣu yathā nirdiṣṭam /

sa evaṃ pudgaladharmanairātmyamayaṃ tattvamavatīrṇaḥ, aparasya parīkṣaṇīyasya darśanīyasya ca abhāvād uparatam, vitarka-vicāra-anabhilāpyaikarasena manasā svarasavāhinā anabhisaṃskāratastattvameva (Bhk 214) sphuṭataraṃ bhāvayan tiṣṭhet / tatra ca sthitaścittasaṃtānaṃ na vikṣipet / yadāntarā rāgādīnāṃ cittaṃ bahirdhā vikṣapet tadā vikṣepaṃ viditvā śighram aśubhabhāvanādivikṣepam upaśamya śīghraṃ tathatāyāṃ cittam uparyupari praveśayet / yadā tu tatrānabhirataṃ cittaṃ paśyet, tadā samādherguṇadarśanād abhiratiṃ tatra bhāvayet / vikṣepe ca doṣadarśanād aratiṃ praśamayet / atha styānamiddhābhibhavād yadā sphuṭapracāratayā līnaṃ cittaṃ paśyet, layābhiśaṅkitaṃ vā tadā pūrvavat pramodyavastu manasikāreṇa śīghraṃ layamupaśamayet / punaḥ tad eva tattvālambanam atidṛḍhataraṃ gṛṇhīyāt / yadi tadā pūrvahasitaramitānyanusmṛtya cittamantarā samṛddhataṃ paśyed auddhatyābhiśaṅkitaṃ vā tadā anityatādisaṃvegavastumanasikārād vikṣepaṃ śamayet / tataḥ punastatraiva tattve cittānabhisaṃskāravāhitāyāṃ yatnaṃ kurvīta /

atha yadā layauddhatyābhyāṃ viviktatayā samapravṛttaṃ svarasavāhisphuṭataraṃ tatraiva tattve cittaṃ utpādayate, tadā bhogaśithilīkaraṇād upekṣaṇiyam / yadi samapravṛtte citte sati ābhogaḥ kriyate, tadā cittaṃ vikṣepyate / līne 'pi citte sati, yadyābhogo na kriyate, tadā atilīnatvād vipaśyanārahitaṃ, cittaṃ ca jātyandhavad bhaviṣyati / tasmāccitte līne sati bhogaṃ kuvīta / samapravṛtte sati bhogaṃ na kurvīta / yadā ca vipaśyanāṃ bhāveyat prajñātiriktatarā bhavet, tadā śamathasyālpatvāt pravātasthita-pradīpavat pracalatvāccittasya na sphuṭaraṃ tattvadarśanaṃ bhavet / atastadā śamathau bhāvayitavyaḥ / śamathasyābhyadhikye 'pi prajñā bhāvayitavyā /

yadā ubhayaṃ samapravṛttaṃ tadā anabhisaṃskāreṇaiva tāvat sthātavyaṃ yāvat kāyacittapīḍā na bhavet / satyāṃ kāyādipīḍāyāṃ tadantarā sakalameva lokaṃ māyāmarīcisvapnajalacandropamapratibhāsavad dṛṣṭvā īdṛśaṃ cintanīyam / amī sattvāstu evaṃ vidhadharmagāmbhiryānavabodhatayā saṃsāre saṃkliṣṭāḥ / tato 'haṃ kariṣyāmi tāṃstāṃ dharmatām avabodhayeyuḥ, tathā kariṣyāmi' iti cintayan mahākaruṇāṃ bodhicittābhimukhīṃ kurvita / tato viśramya punarapi tathaiva sarvadharmanirābhāsaṃ samādhimavataret / citte 'tikhede sati, tathaiva viśramet / ayaṃ tu śamathavipaśyanāyuganaddhapravṛttimārgaḥ savikalpanirvikalpapratibimbam ālambate /

evaṃ yogī anena krameṇa ghaṭikām ardhapraharam ekapraharaṃ vā yāvatkālecchāparyantaṃ tattvaṃ bhāvayan tiṣṭhet / idaṃ tvarthapravicayadhyānam āryalaṅkāvatāre (Bhk 215) nirdiṣṭam / tata icchayā samādherutthātuṃ paryaṅkam abhittvaivam anuvicintayet, amī dharmāḥ sarve paramārthataḥ niḥsvabhāvāḥ santo 'pi saṃvṛtau vyavasthitā eva / tathāsati karmaphalasambandhādayaḥ kathaṃ vyavasthitāḥ syuḥ? bhagavatā coktam-

"bhāvā vidyanti saṃvṛtyā paramārthe na bhāvakāḥ /" ityuktam /

amī bālabuddhayo niḥsvabhāvavastuṣu bhāvādisamāropeṇa viparyastabuddhayo bhavanti / cirakālaṃ saṃsāracakre paribhramanti, tato 'haṃ kariṣyāmi anuttarapuṇyajñānasambhāraṃ paripūrya, tataḥ sarvajñapadaṃ prāpya tān dharmatām avabodhayeyam / evaṃ vicintayet / atha śanaiḥ paryaṅkaṃ bhittvā daśadigvyavasthitān sarvabuddhobodhisattvān praṇipatya tebhyaśca pūjāstotropahāraṃ kṛtvāryabhadracaryādimahāpraṇidhānaṃ praṇidadhīta / tataḥ śūnyatākaruṇāgarbhasakaladānādipuṇyasaṃbhāropārjane 'bhiyogaḥ karaṇīyaḥ /

tathā ca sati taddhyānasarvākāravaropetaśunyatābhinirhāraḥ syāt / āryaratnacūḍe yathoktam- "sa maitrīvarmasaṃnaddho mahākaruṇāsthāne sthitvā sarvākāravaropetaśūnyatābhinirhāradhyānaṃ karoti / tatra sarvākāravaropetaśūnyatā katamā? yā dānapagati-śīlānapagati-kṣāntyanapagati-vīryānapagati-dhyānānapagati-prajñanāpagati-upāyānapagatītyādivistaroktiriti /" bodhisattvastu sarvasattvaparipākaṃ kurvīta / kṣetrakāyabahuparivārādisaṃpattiprādurbhāvopāyadānādikuśalaṃ cāvaśyaṃ seveta /

asati ca tathā buddhānām kṣetrādisaṃpattiryoktā sā kasya phalaṃ syāt / tasmāt sarvākāravaropetaṃ tatsarvajñajñānaṃ tu dānādyupāyena paripūryamāṇatvād bhagavān tat sarvajñajñānam upāyena paryantagatam ityavocat / tasmād bodhisattvena dānādyupāyo 'pi sevitavyo na tu śūnyatā eva / āryasarvadharmavaipulye (Bhk 216) "yo 'yaṃ maitreya! ṣaṭpāramitāsamudāgamo bidhisattvānāṃ sambodhāya taṃ te mohapuruṣā evaṃ vakṣyanti, prajñāpāramitāyām evaṃ bodhisattvena śikṣitavyam, kiṃ śeṣābhiḥ pāramitābhiriti ucyante / te 'nyāḥ pāramitā dūṣayitavyā maṃsyante / tat kiṃ manyase ajita! duṣprajñaḥ sa kāśirājo 'bhūd yena kapotārthena śyenāya svamāṃsāni dattāni? maitreya āha, no hīdaṃ bhagavan / bhagavān āha- yāni mayā maitreya! bodhisattvacaryāṃ caratā ṣaṭpāramitā-pratisaṃyuktāni kuśalamūlānyupacitāni, apakṛtaṃ nu taiḥ kuśalamūlaiḥ? maitreya āha no hīdaṃ bhagavan / bhagavān āha- tvaṃ tāvad ajita! ṣaṣṭikalpāna dānāpāramitāyāṃ samudāgataḥ, ṣaṣṭikalpān śīlapāramitāyaṃ ṣaṣṭikalpān kṣāntipāramitāyāṃ ṣaṣṭikalpān viryapāramitāyāṃ ṣaṣṭikalpān dhyānapāramitāyāṃ ṣaṣṭikalpān prajñāpāramitāyāṃ samudāgataḥ / tat te mohapuruṣā evaṃ vakṣyanti / ekanayenaiva bodhiryaduta śūnyatānayeneti te caryāpariśuddhā bhavantītyādi / "

upāyarahite sati bodhisattvaḥ prajñayā eva tu śrāvakavat buddhakāryāṇi kartuṃ na śaknoti / upāyasanāthaśca samartho bhavati / āryaratnakūṭe yathoktam- "tadyathā kāśyapa! amātyasaṃgṛhītā rājānaḥ sarvakāryāṇi kurvanti, evameva upāyakauśalyasaṃgṛhītā bodhisattvasya prajñā sarvabuddhakāryāṇi karoti /" iti / bodhisattvānāṃ mārgadṛṣṭerapyanyā tīrthikānāṃ śrāvakāṇāṃ ca mārgadṛṣṭirapyanyā / evaṃ tīrthikamārgadṛṣṭistu ātmādau viparyāsayuktatvāt sarveṇa sarvaḥ prajñārahito mārgaḥ / tasmāt te muktiṃ na prāpnuvanti /

śrāvakāṇāṃ tu mahākaruṇārahitatvād upāyāyukatā / tasmāt te ekāntanirvāṇaparāyaṇāḥ bhavanti / bodhisattvamārgastu prajñopāyayukto manyate / tasmāt te apratiṣṭhitanirvāṇaparāyaṇā bhavanti / bodhisattvānāṃ mārgastu prajñopāyayukto manyate / tasmāt te apratisṭhitanirvāṇaṃ prāpnuvanti / prajñābalena tu saṃsāre na patati, upāyabalena ca nirvāṇe na patati /

tasmād āryagayāśīrṣe- "dvāvimau bodhisattvānāṃ saṃkṣiptau mārgau / katamau dvau- yaduta prajñā copāyaśca /" ityākhyātam / āryaśrīparamādye 'pi uktam- (Bhk 217) "prajñāpāramitā tu 'mātā' asti, upāyakauśalyaṃ ca 'pitā' asti / "āryavimalakīrtinirdeśasūtre 'pi- "bodhisattvānāṃ kiṃ bandhanam? kā ca muktiḥ? anupāyena bhavagatiparigraho hi bodhisattvasya bandhanam / upāyena bhavagatigamanaṃ muktiḥ / prajñārahitabhāvagatiparigraho bodhisattvasya bandhanam / prajñayā bhavagatigamanaṃ tu muktiḥ / upāyena aparigṛhītā prajñā hi bandhanam / upāyena parigṛhitā prajñā muktiḥ / prajñayāparigṛhītopāyo bandhanam / prajñayā gṛhītopāyaḥ muktiḥ iti" vistarena uktam /

bodhisattvasya prajñāmātrasevanaṃ tu śrāvakeṣṭanirvāṇapatitatvād bandhanavad bhaviṣyati / apratiṣṭhitanirvāṇena muktirna bhaviṣyati / tasmādupāyarahitā prajñā tu bodhisattvānāṃ bandhanamityucyate / tasmād vāyupīḍitena agnisevanavad bodhisattvena viparyāsavāyumātraprahāṇatvāt sopyāprajñayā śūnyatā sevitavyā, na tu śrāvakavat sākṣātkaraṇīyā / yathā āryadaśadharmasūtre coktam- "kulaputra! tadyathā yathā kaścinmanuṣyaḥ agniparicaryāṃ karoti, sa tadagnisatkāraṃ karoti, guruṃ karoti, kintu so 'yamiti mayā so 'gniḥ satkṛtya, gurūkṛtya mānitaśca iti kṛte 'pi eṣa dvābhyāṃ hastābhyāṃ parigṛhītavya iti na cintayati / tat kasmāditi cet tannidhānne mayi kāyikaduḥkhaṃ cittadaurmanasyaṃ vā sambhāvyate iti cintanāt / tathaiva ca bodhisattve 'pi nirvāṇāśayo 'pyasti, nirvāṇa-pratyakṣaṃ na karoti / tat kasya hetoriti cet? tannidhānād ahaṃ bodhiṃ nirvarteyam iti cintanād" iti /

kevalam upāyamātrasevane 'pi bodhisattvaḥ pṛthagjanabhūmeranuttīrṇatvād atyavabaddha eva bhaviṣyati / tasmāt prajñāsahitamupāyaṃ seveta / evaṃ mantraparigṛhītaviṣavad bodhisattvakleśe 'pi prajñāparigrahabalena bhāvite sati amṛtikatā / punaḥ svabhāvena abhyudayaphalaṃ dānādi yadasti tatra kimuta (Bhk 218) vaktavyam / āryaratnakuṭe coktaṃ yathā- "tadyathāpi nāma kāśyapa! mantrauṣadhaparigṛhītaṃ viṣaṃ na vinipātayati evameva bodhisattvānām kleśaḥ prajñāparigṛhitatvād api na śaknoti vinipātayitum iti / "

tasmād yena kāraṇena bodhisattva upāyabalena saṃsāramanutsṛjati tasmād nirvāṇe na patati / yasmāt prajñābalena sakalālambanaṃ prahīyate tasmāt saṃsāre na patati, tasmād apratiṣṭhitanirvāṇabuddhatvaṃ prāpyate / tasmād āryagaganagañje 'pi uktam- "tatprajñānena hi sarvakleśāḥ parivarjyante / upāyajñānena hi sarvasattvā na parityajyante /" iti / āryasaṃdhinirmocane 'pi- "ekāntasattvārthavimukhasya ekāntasaṃskārābhisaṃskāravimukhasya nānuttarā samyaksaṃbodhiruktā mayeti /" tasmād buddhatvaprātukāmena prajñopāyau ubhau sevitavyau /

tatra lokottaraprajñābhāvanāvasare, atisamāhitāvasare vā dānādyupāyasevanāsambhāvanāyāmapi tatra prayogatatpṛṣṭhalabdhaprajñayoḥ yo 'pi bhavati, tadā upāyasevanaṃ bhavatyeva / tasmāt prajñāpāyau yugapat pravartete / punaraparaṃ bodhisattvānām ayaṃ hi prajñopāyayuganaddhavāhi mārgaḥ sarvasattvāvalokitamahākaruṇayā parigṛhītatvāt lokottaramārgaḥ sevyate, utthānopāyakāle 'pi māyākāravad aviparyastameva dānādi sevyate / āryākṣayamatinirdeśe 'pi yathoktam- "tatra ko hi bodhisattvopāyaḥ? kaśca prajñābhinirhāra iti? yataḥ samādhāne sattvāvalokitamahākaruṇāvalambane cittopasthāpanā sa eva upāyaḥ / yataḥ śāntipraśāntisamāpattiḥ sā tu tatprajñā"iti vistaraḥ / māradamanaparicchede 'pi uktam- "punaraparaṃ bodhisattvānāṃ samutkarṣikaprayogastu prajñājñānena abhiyogaṃ karoti / upayajñānena sarvakuśaladharmasaṃgraho (Bhk 219) 'pi prayujyate / prajñājñānena nairātmya-asattva-ajīva-apoṣa-apudgaleṣu ca prayujyate / upāyajñānena yaḥ sarvasattvaparipāko 'pi prayojyaḥ" iti vistaraḥ / āryadharmasaṃgītisūtre 'pi-

māyākāro yathā kaścinnirmitaṃ mokṣamudyataḥ /
na cāsya nirmite saṅgo jñātapūrvo yato 'sya saḥ //
tribhavaṃ nirmitaprakhyaṃ jñātvā sambodhipāragaḥ /
saṃnahyate jagaddhetorjñātapūrva jagat tathā // iti /

bodhisattvanām prajñopāyavidhireva sādhyamadhikṛtya tatprayogasaṃsāre sthito 'pi asti, āśayanirvāṇe sthito 'pi syād ityuktam /

tādṛśyāṃ śūnyatāmahākaruṇāgarbhānuttarasamyaksaṃbuddhau pariṇatadānādyupāyabhāvanāṃ kṛtvā, paramārthabodhicittotpādārtha pūrvavat nityaṃ kāle kāle śamathavipaśyanāprayogo yathāśakti bhāvanīyaḥ / āryagocarapariśuddhisūtre- sarvāvasthāsu sattvārthakāribodhisattvānāmanuśaṃsā yathā nirdiṣṭā tathā saṃnihitasmṛtyā sarvadā upāayakauśalaṃ bhāvitavyam /

tādṛkkaruṇopāyabodhicittabhāvakaḥ sa iha janmani avaśyaṃ viśiṣṭo bhavati / tasmāt svapne nityaṃ buddhabodhisattvadarśanaṃ bhaviṣyati / susvapnāntarāṇyapi dṛśyante / devā api anumodanād rakṣāṃ kariṣyanti / pratikṣaṇamapi vipulapuṇyajñānasambhārasaṃcayo bhaviṣyati / kleśāvaraṇadauṣṭhulyamapi kṣīṇaṃ bhaviṣyati / sarvadaiva sukhasaumanasyamadhikaṃ bhaviṣyati / bahujanapriyo bhaviṣyati / śarīre 'pi rogagrasto na bhaviṣyati / paramacittakarmaṇyatāpi prāptā bhaviṣyati / tasmād abhijñatādiviśiṣṭaguṇaprāptiḥ /

atha ṛddhibalena anantalokadhātūn gatvā bhagavato buddhān pūjayati / tebhyaḥ dharmo 'pi śrūyate / maraṇasamaye 'pi avaśyameva buddhabodhisattvadarśanaṃ bhaviṣyati / janmāntare 'pi buddhabodhisattvānapagatadeśaviśiṣṭagṛhe cāpi janma bhaviṣyati / tasmād anāyāsapuṇyajñānasambhāraḥ paripūrayiṣyate / mahābhogo bahuparivāraśca bhaviṣyati / tīkṣṇaprajñayā bahujanaparipākamapi kariṣyanti / sarvajātiṣu jātismaraṇaṃ bhaviṣyati / tādṛśī aparimitānuśaṃsā sūtrāntareṣu saṃbhūtā avagantavyā /

tena tādṛkkaruṇopāyabodhicittāni ca nityam ādareṇa ciraṃbhavitāni kramaśaḥ cittasaṃtāne atipariśuddhakṣaṇotpādena paripākabhūtatvād araṇimanthanāgnivat samyagarthabhāvanāprakarṣaparyantaṃ gamanaṃ bhūtvā lokottarajñānasakalavikalpajālāpagamanaṃ niṣprapañcadharmadhātuprasphuṭāvagati, nirmalaniścalanirvātasthitapradīpavat niścalapramāṇabhūtaḥ, sarvadharmanairātmyasvabhāvaḥ tattvasākṣātkārī, darśanamārgasaṃgṛhītaḥ paramārthabodhicittasvabhāva utpadyate / tadutpādād vastuparyantatālambane praviṣṭaḥ / tathāgatagotre utpadyate, bodhisattvānapakṣālapravṛttiḥ, lokasarvagatinivṛttiḥ, bodhisattvadharmatādharmadhātvavabodhasthitiḥ, prāptabodhisattvaprathamabhūmiḥ ityanuśaṃsā tadvistaraḥ daśabhūmyādiṣu avagantavyaḥ / idaṃ tathatālambanadhyānam āryalaṅkāvatāre nirdiṣṭam / idaṃ tu bodhisattvānām niṣprapañcanirvikalpatāyāmeva praviśati /

adhimuktibhūmau tu adhimuktivaśāt pravṛttirvyavasthāpitā na tu abhisaṃskāreṇa / tajjñānaprādurbhāve tu sākṣāt praveśaḥ / tathā prathamabhūmipraveśaḥ tadanantaraṃ bhāvanāmārge lokottareṇa tatpṛṣṭhalabdhajñānena dvābhyāṃ ca prajñopāyabhāvanākrameṇa bhāvanāpraheyasaṃcitāvaraṇasya sūkṣmasūkṣmataravyavadānād uttarottaraviśiṣṭaguṇaprāptaye adhobhūmipariśodhanena tathāgatajñānaparyantaṃ praviśya, sarvajñatāsāgaram avatīrya, kāryapariniṣpattyālambanamapi prāpnoti / evaṃ krameṇa eva cittasaṃtānapariśuddhiḥ āryalaṅkāvatāre 'pi uktā / āryasaṃdhinirvocane (Bhk 221) 'pi yathoktam- "krameṇottarottarabhūmisu suvarṇavat cittaṃ vyavadāya, anuttarasaṃyaksaṃbodhiparyantam abhisaṃbudhyati" iti /

sarvajñatāsāgarapraveśe sati cintamaṇivat sakalasattvopajīviguṇaskandhayuktaḥ pūrvapraṇīdhānaphalasatkṛtaḥ, mahākaruṇāsvabhāvabhūtaḥ, anābhoganānopayayuktaḥ, aparimitanirmāṇairaśeṣajagatsarvārthākaraḥ kṛtaḥ / aśeṣaguṇasaṃpattiprakarṣaparyantabhutaḥ, savāsanādoṣaṃ sakalamalaṃ nirākṛtya, sattvadhātvantaparyantavihārī, iti prekṣāvān bhagavati buddhe sakalaguṇākare śraddhām utpādya tadguṇapariniṣpattyarthaṃ svayaṃ sarvān prayatnān kuryāt / tasmād bhagavatā evamuktam- "tadetat sarvajñajñānaṃ karuṇāmūlaṃ bodhicittahetukam upāyaparyavasānam" iti /

dūrīkṛterṣyādimalā hi santo guṇairatṛptāḥ salilairivābdhiḥ /
vivecya gṛṇhanti subhāṣitāni haṃsāḥ payo yatpayāṃsi prahṛṣṭāḥ //
pakṣapātākulaṃ tasmād dūrīkṛtaṃ mano budhaiḥ /
sarvameva grahītavyaṃ bālādapi subhāṣitam //
prakāśya yat prāpi mayā śubham asamapaddhitam /
puṇyamastu janastena prāpto madhyamapaddhitam //

ācāryakamalaśīlena madhye nibaddho bhāvanākramaḥ samāptaḥ /

bharatīyopādhyāyena prajñāvarmaṇā mahālokacakṣuṣā vandyajñānasenena cānūdya sunirṇitaḥ /

3. bhāvanākramastṛtīyaḥ

mahāyānasūtrāntanayapravṛttānāṃ saṃkṣepato bhāvanākramaḥ kathyate / tatra yadyapi bodhisattvānāmaparimito 'pramāṇādibhedene bhagavatā samadhirupadiṣṭaḥ, tathāpi śamathavipaśyanābhyāṃ sarve samādhayo vyāptā iti / sa eva śamathavipaśyanāyuganaddhavāhī mārgastāvat kathyate / uktaṃ ca bhagavatā-

nimittabandhanāj janturatho doṣṭhulabandhanāt /
vipaśyanāṃ bhāvayitvā śamathaṃ ca vimucyate // iti /

tasmāt sakalāvaraṇa-prahāṇārthina śamathavipaśyane sevanīye / śamathabalena svālambane cittam aprakampyaṃ bhavati nivātasthitapradīpavat / vipaśyanayā yathāvad dharmatattvāvagamāt samyagjñānālokaḥ samutpadyate, tataḥ sakalam āvaraṇaṃ prahīyate, andhakāravad ālokodayāt /

ata eva bhagavatā catvāryālambanavastūni yogināṃ nirdiṣṭāni / nirvikalpapratibimbakam, savikalpapratibimbakam, vastuparyantatā, kāryapariniṣpattiśca / tatra śamathena yat sarvadharmapratibimbakaṃ buddhādirūpaṃ cādhimucyālambyate tena nirvikalpapratibimbakam ucyate / tatra bhūtārthanirūpaṇāvikalpābhāvān nirvikalpakam ucyate / yathāśrutodgṛhītānāñca dharmāṇāṃ pratibimbakam adhimucyālambyata iti kṛtvā pratibimbakam ucyate / tad eva pratibimbakaṃ yadā vipaśyanayā vicārayati yogī tattvādhigamārthaṃ tadā savikalpapratibimbakam ucyate, tattvanirūpaṇavikalpasya vipaśyanālakṣaṇasya tatra samudbhavāt / tasyaiva ca pratibimbasya svabhāvaṃ nirūpayan (Bhk 224) yogī darpaṇāntargatasvamukha-pratibimbapratyavekṣaṇena svamukhagatavairūpyāṇāṃ viniścayavat, sarvadharmāṇāṃ yathāvat svabhāvāvagamāt / yadā vastu paryantatālakṣaṇāṃ tathatāṃ pratibidhyati, tadā vastuparyantatāvagamāt prathamāyāṃ bhūmau vastuparyantatālambanam ucyate / tato bhāvanāmārgeṇa pariśiṣṭāsu bhūmiṣvoṣadhirasāyanopayogād iva krameṇa viśuddhataratamakṣaṇodayād āśrayaparāvṛttau satyām, āvaraṇa-prahāṇalakṣaṇa-kāryaparisamāptiryadā bhavati tadā buddhabhūmau tad eva jñānaṃ kāryapariniṣpattyālambanam ucyate /

tad evam anena kiṃ darśitaṃ bhavati? śamathavipaśyanābhyāṃ samastavastuparyantatādhigamo bhavati / tena cāvaraṇaprahāṇalakṣaṇā kāryapariniṣpattiravāpyate / tad eva ca buddhatvam / ato buddhatvādhigamārthinā śamathavipaśyane sevanīye / yastu te na sevate tasya naiva vastuparyantatādhigamo nāpi kāryapariniṣpattiriti / tatra śamathaścittaikāgratā / vipaśyanā bhūtapratyavekṣeti saṃkṣepād āryaratnameghādau bhagavatā śamathavipaśyanayorlakṣaṇam uktam / tatra yoginā śīlaviśuddhayādau śamathavipaśyanāsaṃbhāre sthitena sarvasattveṣu mahākaruṇām utpādya, samutpādita-bodhicittena śrutacintābhāvanāyāṃ prayoktavyam /

tatra prathamaṃ tāvad yogī bhāvanā-kāle sarvam itikaraṇiyaṃ parisamāpya kṛtamūtrapurīṣaḥ kaṇṭaka-svarādirahite mano 'nukūle pradeśe sthitvā mayā sarvasattvā bodhimaṇḍe niṣpādayitavyā iti viniścayan, sakalajagadabhyuddharaṇāśayo mahākaruṇām āmukhīkṛtya, daśadigavasthitān sarvabuddhabodhisattvān pañcāṅgena praṇipatyāgrato buddhabodhisattvān pīṭhādau sthāpayitvā anyatra vā yathāvat tebhyaśca yathāruci pūjāstavanaṃ kṛtvā svapāpaṃ pradeśya, sakalasdya jagataḥ puṇyam anumodya, mṛdutarasukhāsane vairocanabhaṭṭārakabaddhaparyaṅkeṇa (Bhk 225) ardhaparyeṅkeṇa vā niṣadya nātyunmīlite nātinimīlite nāsikāgravinyaste cakṣuṣī kṛtvā, nātinamraṃ nātistabdham ṛjukāyaṃ praṇidhāyāntarmukhāvarjitasmṛtirupaviśet / tataḥ skandhau samau sthāpayet / śiro nonnataṃ nāvanatam ekapārśve niścalaṃ sthāpayitavyam / kiṃ tarhi nābhipraguṇā nāsikā sthāpayitavyā / dantoṣṭhaṃ mṛdu sthāpanīyam / jivhā copari dantamūle sthāpanīyā / āśvāsapraśvāsāstu na saśabdā nāpi śthūlā nāpi tvaritāḥ karaṇīyāḥ / kiṃ tvasaṃlakṣayamāṇāṃ mandaṃ mandamanābhogena yathā praviśeyurnirgaccheyurvā tathā karaṇiyam /

tatra prathamaṃ tāvad yogī yathādṛṣṭaśrute tathāgatavigrahe cittaṃ sthāpayitvā śamathaṃ niṣpādayet / tañca tathāgatavigraham uttaptakanakāvadātaṃ lakṣaṇānuvyañjanālaṃkṛtaṃ parṣanmaṇḍalamadhyagataṃ nānāvidhairupāyaiḥ sattvārthaṃ kurvantaṃ prābandhikena manasikāreṇa tadguṇābhilāṣaṃ samupādāya layauddhatyādīn vyupaśamayya tāvad dhyāyed yāvat sphuṭataraṃ puro 'vasthitamiva taṃ paśyet / tataḥ tasya tathāgatavigrahapratibimbakasyāgatigatiṃ nirūpayato vipaśyanāṃ bhāvayati / tataścaivaṃvidhaṃ vicintayet / yathedaṃ tathāgatavigrahapratibimbakaṃ na kutaścid āgataṃ nāpi kvacid gamiṣyati tiṣṭhadapi svabhāvaśūnyam ātmātmīyarahitaṃ tathā eva sarvadharmāḥ svabhāvaśūnyā āgatigatirahitāḥ pratibimbopamāḥ, bhāvādirūparahitā iti vicāryoparatavicāreṇa nirjalpaikarase manasā tattvaṃ bhāvayan yāvadicchaṃ tiṣṭhet / ayaṃ ca samādhiḥ pratyutpannabuddhasaṃmukhāvasthitasamādhirnirdiṣṭaḥ / asya cānuśaṃsā vistaratastatraiva sutre bodhayitavyā /

etāvatā prakāreṇa sarvadharmasaṃgraho bhavati, tatra cittam upanibadhya layauddhatyādipraśamena śamathaṃ niṣpādayet / rūpyarūpibhedena ca (Bhk 226) saṃkṣepāt sarvadharmasaṃgrahaḥ / tatra rūpaskandhasaṃgṛhītā rūpiṇaḥ / vedanādiskandhasvabhāvā arūpiṇaḥ / tatra bālā bhāvādigrahābhiniveśād viparyastadhiyaḥ saṃsāre paribhramanti / teṣāṃ viparyāsāpanayanāya, teṣu ca mahākaruṇām āmukhīkṛtya, niṣpannaśamatho yogī tattvādhigamāya tato vipaśyanāṃ bhāvayet / bhūtapratyavekṣaṇā ca vipaśyanocyate / bhutaṃ punaḥ pudgaladharmanairātmyam /

tatra pudgalanairātmyaṃ yā skandhānāmātmātmīyarahitatā / dharmanairātmyaṃ yā teṣāmeva māyopamatā / tatraivaṃ yogī nirūpayet / na tāvad rūpādivyatiriktaḥ pudgalo 'sti / tasyā pratibhāsanāt / rūpādiṣvevāhamiti pratyayotpattiśca / na cāpi rūpādiskandhasvabhāvaḥ pudgalaḥ / teṣāṃ rūpādīnāmanityānekasvabhāvatvāt / pudgalasya ca nityaikarūpeṇa parairupakalpitatvāt / nāpi tattvānyatvābhyām anabhilāpyapudgalasya vastutvaṃ yuktam / vastusataḥ prakārāntarābhāvāt / tasmād alīkavibhrama evāyaṃ lokasya yadutāhaṃ mameti niścayaṃ pratipannasya / tato rūpiṇo 'pi dharmān dharmanairātmyādhigamāya vicārayet- kim ete cittavyatirekeṇa paramārthasantaḥ sthitāḥ āhosviccittameva rūpādinirbhāsaṃ svapnāvasthāyāṃ pratibhāsavat pratibhāsata iti / sa tān paramāṇuśo nirūpayan, paramāṇūṃśca bhāgaśaḥ pratyavekṣamāṇo nopalabhate / tathā cānupalabhamānasteṣu astināstitvavikalpān nivartayati /

cittamātrañca traidhātukam avatarati nānyathā / atha coktaṃ laṅkāvatāre-

aṇuśo vibhajati dravyaṃ na caiva rūpaṃ vikalpayet /

tasyaivaṃ bhavati cittamevānādikālikavitatharūpādyabhiniveśavaśāt svapnopalabhyamānarūpādipratibhāsavad bālānāṃ bahiḥ vicchinnamiva rūpādipratibhāsaṃ khyāti / tasmāccittamātrameva traidhātukam / sa evaṃ cittameva sakaladharmaprajñaptiṃ niścitya tatra pratyavekṣya ca sarvadharmāṇāṃ svabhāvaḥ pratyavekṣito bhavatīti cittasvabhāvamapi pratyavekṣate / sa evaṃ vicārayati, cittamapi paramārthato māyāvad anutpannam / yada hi alīkasvabhāvarūpādyākāropagraheṇa cittameva citrākāraṃ pratibhāsate, tadāsyāpi rūpādivat tadavyatirekāt satyatvaṃ kutra bhavet? yathā citrākāratayā rūpādayo naikānekasvabhāvāstathā cittamapi tadavyatirekeṇa naikānekasvabhāvam / nāpi cittamutpādyamānaṃ kutaścid āgacchati / nāpi nirudhyayānaṃ kvacid gacchati / nāpi svaparobhayataḥ paramārthenāsyotpādo yuktaḥ / tasmān māyopamameva cittam / yathā cittamevaṃ sarvadharmā māyāvat paramārthato 'nutpannāḥ /

yenāpi cittena pratyavekṣate yogī tasyāpi svabhāvaṃ parīkṣamāṇo nopalabhate / tad evaṃ yatra yatrālambane yoginaścittaṃ prasaret tasya tasya svabhāvaṃ parīkṣamāṇo [tat svabhāvamapi nopalabhate] 'sau yada nopalabhate tadā sarvameva vastu vicārya kadalīskandhavad asāramavagamya, tataścittaṃ vivartayati / tato bhāvādivikalpoparatau sarvaprapañcavigatam ānimittaṃ yogaṃ pratilabhate / tathā coktam āryaratnameghe- "sa evam apakṣālakuśalaḥ sarvaprapañcavigamāya śūnyatābhāvanāyā yogamāpadyate / sa śūnyatābhāvanābahulo yeṣu yeṣu sthāneṣu cittaṃ prasarati cittamabhiramate tāni tāni sthānāni svabhāvataḥ (Bhk 228) parigaveṣamāṇaḥ śūnyaṃ pratividhyati [yat cittaṃ tadapi parīkṣamāṇaṃ śūnyaṃ pratividhyati] yenāpi cittena parīkṣate tad api svabhāvataḥ parigaveṣyamāṇaṃ śūnyaṃ pratividhyati / sa evam upaparīkṣamāṇo nirnimittatāyāṃ yogamāpadyate /" tad eva anenaivaṃ darśitaṃ bhavati / yastu nopaparīkṣate tasya nāsti nirnimittatāyāṃ praveśa iti /

sa evaṃ dharmāṇāṃ svabhāvamupaparīkṣamāṇo yada nopalabhate, tadāstīti na vikalpayati nāstīti na vikalpayati / yo 'sau nāstīti kalpyate tasya buddhau sarvadaivāpratibhāsanāt / yadi hi bhāvaḥ kadācid dṛṣṭo bhavet, tadā tasya pratiṣedhān nāstīti kalpayet / yadā kālatraye 'pi yoginā prajñayā nirūpayatā bhāvo nopalabdhaḥ tadā kasya pratiṣedhān nāstīti kalpayet / evamanye vikalpāstasya tadānīṃ na santi eva, bhāvābhāvavikalpābhyāṃ sarvasya vikalpasya vyāptatvāt / evaṃ vyāpakābhāvād byāpyasyāpyabhāvaḥ / evaṃ sati niṣprapañcanirvikalpatāmavatīrṇo bhavati, rūpādiṣu cāniśrito bhavati / prajñayā ca nirūpayataḥ sakalavastusvabhāvānupalambhāt prajñottaradhyāyī bhavati / sa evaṃ pudgaladharmanairātmyamayaṃ tattvamavatīrṇaḥ, aparasya parīkṣaṇīyasya cābhāvād, uparatavicāreṇa nirvikalpaikarasena manasā svarasavāhinā, anabhisaṃskārataḥ tad eva tattvaṃ sphuṭataram avadhārayan yogī tiṣṭheta / tatra ca sthitaścittabandhaṃ na vikṣipet /

yadāntarā cittaṃ bahirdhā vikṣiptaṃ paśyet tadā tatsvabhāvapratyevekṣaṇena vikṣepaṃ praśamayya, punastatraiva cittamuparyupari prerayet / yadā tu tatrānabhirataṃ cittaṃ paśyet, tadā samādherguṇadarśanād abhiratiṃ tatra thāvayet / vikṣepe ca doṣadarśanād aratiṃ praśamayet / atha styānamiddhābhibhavād yada pracāratayā līnaṃ cittaṃ paśyet, layābhiśaṅkitaṃ vā tadā pramodyavastu buddharūpādikamālokasaṃjñāṃ vā manasikṛtya layamupaśamayet, tatastad eva tattvaṃ dṛḍhataraṃ (Bhk 229) gṛṇhīyāt / yadā tu jātyandhavad andhakārapraviṣṭapuruṣavad vinimīlitākṣavat sphuṭataraṃ tattvaṃ nāvadhārayed yogī, tadā tasya līnaṃ cittaṃ veditavyaṃ vipaśyanārahitaṃ ca / atha yathā pūrvānubhūtaviṣayaspṛhayā cittamantarā samuddhataṃ paśyed, auddhatyābhiśaṅkitaṃ vā, tadānityatādi saṃvegavastumanasikārād auddhatyaṃ śamayet / tataḥ punaḥ tatraiva tattve cittānabhisaṃskāravāhitāyāṃ yatnaṃ kurvīta / yadā ca vikṣiptapuruṣavad vānaravad vānavasthitavṛtti cittaṃ bhavet, tad auddhatyaṃ boddhavyaṃ śamatharahitaṃ ca / atha yadā layauddhatyābhyāṃ viviktatayā samapravṛttaṃ svarasavāhi sphuṭataraṃ tatraiva tattve cittam utpādyate tadābhogaśithilīkaraṇād upekṣaṇiyam / tadā ca śamathavipaśyanāyuganaddhavāhī mārgoniṣpanno veditavyaḥ /

yadā ca vipaśyanā bhāvayet prajñātiriktatarā bhāvayet, tadā śamathasyālpatvāt pravātasthitapradipavat pracalatvāccittasya na sphuṭataraṃ tattvadarśanaṃ bhavet / atastadā śamatho bhāvayitavyaḥ / śamathasyābhyādhikye middhāvaṣṭabadhapuruṣasyeva sphuṭataraṃ tattvadarśanaṃ na syāt / tasmāt tadā prajñā bhāvayitavyā / yadā samapravṛtte dve api bhavato yuganaddhavāhibalīvardadvayavat tadānabhisaṃskāreṇaiva tāvat sthātavyaṃ yāvat kāyacittapīḍā na bhavet /

saṃkṣepataḥ sarvasyaiva samādheḥ ṣaḍ doṣā bhavanti / kausīdyam, ālambanasaṃpramoṣaḥ, layaḥ, auddhatyam, anābhogaḥ, ābhogaśceti / eṣāṃ pratipakṣeṇāṣṭau prahāṇasaṃskārā bhāvanīyāḥ / śraddhā, chandaḥ, vyāyāmaḥ, prasrabdhiḥ, smṛtiḥ, saṃprajanyam, cetanā, upekṣā ceti / tatrādyāścatvāraḥ kausīdyapratipakṣāḥ / tathā hi- samādhiguṇeṣvabhisaṃpratyayalakṣaṇayā śraddhayā yogino 'bhilāṣaḥ samutpadyate / tato 'bhilāṣavān vīryamārabhate / tato vīryārambhaṇāt kāyacittayoḥ karmaṇyatāṃ bhāvayati / tataḥ prasrabdhakāyacetasaḥ (Bhk 230) kausīdyaṃ vyāvartate / tataḥ [śraddhādayaḥ kausīdyaprahāṇāya bhavanti] tadartha te bhāvanīyāḥ / smṛtirālambana-saṃpramoṣasya pratipakṣaḥ / saṃprajanyaṃ layauddhatyayoḥ pratipakṣaḥ / tayostena samupekṣya parivarjanāt / layauddhatyāpraśamanakāle tu anābhogadoṣaḥ tatastatpratipakṣeṇa cetanā bhāvanīyā / layauddhatyapraśame sati, yadā praśamabāhi cittaṃ bhavet, tadābhogadoṣaḥ / tasya pratipakṣastadānīm upekṣā bhāvanīyā / yadi samapravṛtte citte ābhogaḥ kriyate, tadā cittaṃ vikṣipyate / līne 'pi citte sati yadyābhogo na kriyate, tadā vipaśyanārahitatvād, andhapuruṣavaccittaṃ līnaṃ syāt / tasmāt līnacittaṃ nigṛṇhīyād, uddhataṃ praśamayet, punaḥ samāprāptam upekṣeta /

tato yāvadiccha yogī tāvad anabhisaṃskāreṇaiva tattvaṃ bhāvayaṃstiṣṭhet / satyāṃ tu kāyādipīḍāyāṃ punaḥ punarantarā sakalameva lokaṃ vyavalokyamāyājala candropamapratibhāsaṃ [vata] avataret / tatha coktam avikalpapraveśe- lokottareṇa jñānenākāśasamatalān sarvadharmānpaśyati / pṛṣṭhalabdhena punarmāyāmarīcisvapno dakacandropamān paśyatīti / tad evaṃ māyopamaṃ jagad avagamya, sattveṣu mahākaruṇām āmukhīkṛtyaivam anuvicintayet / evaṃvidhaṃ dharmagāmbhoryam anavagacchanto 'mī bālabuddhaya ādiśānteṣveva dharmeṣu bhāvādisamāropaviparyastā vividhakarmakleśān upacinvanti / tataḥ saṃsāre paribhramanti, tato 'haṃ kariṣyāmi yathaitān evaṃvidhaṃ dharmāgāmbhīryam avabodhayeyam iti, tato viśramya punarapi tathaiva sarvadharmanirābhāsaṃ samādhimavataret / cittakhede sati, tathaiva viśramya punaravataret / evam anena krameṇa ghaṭikām [arthapraharam] ekapraharaṃ vā yāvantaṃ kālaṃ śaknoti tāvantaṃ kālaṃ tiṣṭhet /

tata icchayā samādheḥ utthātuṃ paryaṅkam abhittvaivam anuvicintayet / yadi nāmāmī dharmāḥ sarva eva paramārthato 'nutpannāstathāpi māyavat pratiniyatavividhahetupratyayasāmagrīvaśena vicitrā evāvicāraramaṇīyāḥ pravartante, tena nocchedadṛṣṭiprasaṅgaḥ / nāpyapavādāntasya, yataśca prajñayā vicāryamāṇā nopalabhyante, tena na śāśvatadṛṣṭiprasaṅgo nāpi samāropāntasya / tatra ye prajñācakṣurvikalatayā viparyastamatayā ātmābhiniviṣṭā vividhāni karmāṇi kurvanti te saṃsāre paribhramanti / ye punarekāntena saṃsāravimukhā mahākāruṇyavikalatayā ca na [sattvārthaṃ] dānādipāramitāḥ paripūrayanti ātmānaṃ damayanti te sattvā upāyavikalatayā śrāvakapratyekabuddhabodhau patanti /

ye tu asvabhāvaṃ jagad avagamya mahākāruṇyabalena sakalajagadabhyuddharaṇakṛtaniścayā māyākāravad aviparyastadhiyo vipulapuṇyajñānasaṃbhāraṃ samupāyanti te tathāgataṃ padaṃ prāpyāsaṃsāramaśeṣasya jagataḥ sarvākāraṃ hitasukhāni saṃpādayantaḥ tiṣṭhanti / te ca jñāna[sambhāra]balena [samasta]kleśaprahāṇān na saṃsāre patanti sarvasattvāpekṣayā ca samupārjitavipulāprameyapuṇyasaṃbhāravaśena na nirvāṇe patanti, sarvasattvopajīvyāśca bhavanti / tasmān mayā sakalasattvahitasukhādhānārthināpratiṣṭhitanirvāṇam adhigantukāmena vipulapuṇyajñāna-saṃbhāropārjane 'bhiyogaḥ [sadā] karaṇiyaḥ / tathā coktam āryatathāgataguhyasutre- "jñānasambhāraḥ sarvakleśaprahāṇāya saṃvartate / puṇyasambhāraḥ sarvasattvopajīvitāyai saṃvartate / tasmāt tarhi bhagavan bodhisattvena mahāsattvena puṇyasambhāre jñānasaṃbhāre ca sarvadābhiyogaḥ karaṇīyaḥ" iti / āryatathāgatotpattisaṃbhasūtre coktam- "sa khalu punareṣa tathāgatānāṃ (Bhk 232) saṃbhavo naikena kāraṇena bhavati / tat kasya hetoḥ? samudāgataistāvad bho jinaputrāprameyaśatasahasradaśakāraṇaistathāgatāḥ samudāgacchanti / katamairdaśabhiryadutāprameyapuṇyajñānasambhārātṛptisamudāgamakāraṇeneti" vistara / āryavimalakīrtinirdeśe coktam- "śatapuṇyanirjātāḥ sarvakuśaladharmanirjātā apramāṇakuśalamūlakarmanirjātāḥ kāyāstathāgatasyeti" vistaraḥ /

tad evaṃ kṛtvā śanaiḥ paryaṅkaṃ bhittvā daśadigvyavasthitān sarvabuddhabodhisattvān praṇipatya tebhyaśca pūjāstotropahāraṃ kṛtvāryabhadracaryādipraṇidhānaṃ pranidadhīta / tataḥ śūnyatākaruṇāgarbhānuttarasaṃbodhipariṇāmitasakaladānādipuṇyasaṃbhāropārjanābhiyukto bhavet /

yastu manyate, cittavikalpasamutthāpitaśubhāśubhakarmavaśena sattvāḥ svargādikarma phalamanubhavantaḥ saṃsāre saṃsaranti / ye punarna kiñciccintayanti nāpi kiñcit karma kurvanti te parimucyante saṃsārāt / tasmānna kiñciccintayitavyam / nāpi dānādikuśalacaryā kartavyā / kevalaṃ mūrkhajanamadhikṛtya dānādikuśalacaryā nirdiṣṭeti / tena sakalamahāyānaṃ pratikṣiptaṃ bhavet / mahāyānamūlatvācca sarvayānānāṃ tatpratikṣepeṇa sarvam eva yānaṃ pratikṣiptaṃ syāt / tathā hi 'na kiñciccintayitavyamiti' bruvata bhutapratyavekṣālakṣaṇā prajñā pratikṣiptā bhavet / bhūtapratyavekṣā-mūlatvāt samyagjñānasya tatpratikṣepā llokottarāpi prajñā pratikṣiptā bhavet / tatpratikṣepāt sarvākārajñatā pratikṣiptā bhavet / nāpi dānādicaryā kartavyeti vadatā copāyo dānādiḥ sphuṭatarameva pratikṣiptaḥ /

etāvad eva ca saṃkṣiptaṃ mahāyānaṃ yaduta prajñopāyaśca / yathoktam āryagayāśīrṣe- "dvāvimau bodhisattvānāṃ saṃkṣiptau mārgau / katamau dvau? yaduta (Bhk 233) prajñā copāyaśca /" āryatathāgataguhyasūtre coktam- "imau ca prajñopāyau bodhisattvānāṃ sarvapāramitāsaṃgrahāya saṃvartete" iti / tataśca mahāyānaṃ pratikṣipatā mahat karmāvaraṇaṃ kṛtaṃ syāt / tasmād [mahāyānaṃ pratikṣipataḥ, alpaśrutasya, ātmadṛṣṭiṃ parāmṛśataḥ,] asyānupāsitavidvajjanasyānavadhārita-tathāgata-pravacananīteḥ svayaṃ vinaṣṭasya parān api nāśayato yuktyāgamadūṣitatvāt, viṣasaṃsṛṣṭavacanaṃ saviṣabhojanamiva ātmakāmena dhīmatā dūrata eva parihartavyam /

tathā hyanena bhūtapratyavekṣāṃ pratikṣipatā dharmapravicayākhyaṃ pradhānam eva bodhyaṅgaṃ pratikṣiptaṃ syāt / vinā ca mūtapratyavekṣayā yoginaḥ katham anādikālābhyastarūpādibhāvābhiniveśasya cittaṃ nirvikalpatāṃ praviśet? sarvadharmeṣvasmṛtyamanasikāreṇa praviśatīti cet, tad ayuktam / na hi vinā bhūtapratyavekṣayānubhūyamāneṣvapi sarvadharmeṣvasmṛtiramanasikāro vā śakyate kartum / yadi ca nāmāmī dharmā mayāsmartavyā nāpi manasikartavyā ityevaṃ bhāvayannasmṛtimanasikārau teṣu bhāvayet tadā sutarām eva tena te smṛtā manasikṛtāśca syuḥ / atha smṛtimanasikārābhāvamātram asmṛtyamanasikārāvabhipretau, tadā tayorabhāvaḥ kena prakāreṇa bhavatīti etad eva vicāryate / na cābhāvaḥ kāraṇaṃ yuktam, yena tato [nirnimittāmanasikārāt] nirvikalpatā bhavet / [tanmātrato 'vikalpatāyāṃ] saṃmurcchitasyāpi smṛtimanasikārābhāvān nirvikalpatāpraveśaprasaṅgaḥ / na ca bhūtapratyavekṣāṃ vinānya upāyo 'sti yena prakāreṇāsmṛtyamanasikārau kuryāt /

satyapi cāsmṛtyamanasikārasambhave, vinā bhūtapratyavekṣayā niḥsvabhāvatā dharmāṇāṃ katham avagatā bhavet? na hi svabhāvata evaṃ dharmāḥ (Bhk 234) śūnyāḥ sthitā ityevaṃ vinā tatpratyavekṣayā tacchūnyatāprativedho bhavet / nāpi vinā śūnyatāprativedhena āvaraṇaprahāṇaṃ saṃbhavati sarvatra sarveṣāṃ muktiprasaṅgāt /
kiṃ ca tasya yogino yadi sarvadharmeṣu muṣitasmṛtitayā mūḍhatayā vā smṛtimanasikārau na pravartete, tadātyantamūḍhaḥ katham asau yogī bhavet / vinā ca bhūtapratyavekṣayā tatrāsmṛtim amanasikāraṃ cābhyastatā moha evābhyasto bhavet / tata eva samyagjñānāloko dūrīkṛtaḥ syāt / athāsau na muṣitasmṛtirnāpi mūḍhaḥ, tadā kathaṃ tatrāsmaraṇam amanasikāraṃ kartu śaknuyād vinā bhūtapratyavekṣayā / na hi smaranneva na smarati, paśyan eva na paśyatīti yuktam abhidhātum / asmṛtyamanasikārābhyāsācca kathaṃ pūrvanivāsānusmṛtyādi-buddhadharmodayo bhavet, virodhāt, na hyuṣṇaviruddhaṃ śītam āsevamānasya uṣṇasparśasaṃvedanaṃ bhavet /

kiṃ ca samādhisamāpannasya yogino yadi manovijñānam asti, tadāvaśyaṃ tena kiṃcid ālambayitavyam / na hi pṛthagjanānāṃ sahasā nirālambanaṃ jñānaṃ bhavet / atha nāsti, tadā kathaṃ niḥsvabhāvatā dharmāṇāmavagatā bhavet? kena ca pratipakṣeṇa kleśāvaraṇaṃ prahīyate? na ca caturthadhyānālābhinaḥ pṛthagjanasya cittanirodhaḥ saṃbhavati / tasmāt saddharme yāvasmṛtyamanasikārau paṭhitau tau bhūtapratyavekṣāpūrvākau draṣṭavyau / asmād bhūtapratyavekṣayāsmṛtirmanasikāraśca śakyate kartum, nānyathā / tathā hi yadā nirūpayan samyakprajñayā yogī kālatraye paramārthataḥ samutpannaṃ na kaṃcid dharma paśyati, tadā tatra kathaṃ smṛtimanasikārau kuryāt / yo hi kālatraye 'pyasattvān nānubhūtaḥ paramārthataḥ sa kathaṃ smaryeta, manasi vā kriyeta / tato 'sau sarvaprapañcopaśamaṃ nirvikalpaṃ jñānaṃ praviṣṭo bhavet / tatpraveśācca śūnyatāṃ pratividhyati tatprativedhācca prahīṇasakalakudṛṣṭijālo bhavati /

upāyayuktaḥ prajñāsevanataśca samyak saṃvṛtiparamārthasatyakuśalo bhavati / ato 'nāvaraṇajñānalābhāt sarvān eva buddhadharmān adhigacchati / tasmānna vinā bhūtapratyavekṣayā samyagjñānodayo nāpi kleśāvaraṇaprahāṇām / tathā coktaṃ mañjuśrīvikurvitasūtre- "kathaṃ dārike bodhisattvo vijitasaṃgrāmo bhavati? āha, yo mañjuśrīḥ vicāya vicāya sarvadharmān nopalabhate" iti / tasmād visphāritajñānacakṣuḥ prajñāśastreṇa kleśārīn nirjitya, nirbhayo viharan yogī, na tu kātarapuruṣa iva vinimīlitākṣaḥ / āryasamādhirāje 'pyuktam-

nairātmyadharmān yadi pratyevekṣate tān pratyavekṣya yadi bhāvayet /
sa hetu nirvāṇapahalasya prāptaye yo 'nyaheturna sa bhoti śāntaye // iti /

sutrasamuccaye coktam- "ātmanā vipaśyanāyogam anuyukto viharati parāṃśca vipaśyanāyāṃ nābhiyojayatīti mārakarmeti /" vipaśyanā ca bhūtapratyavekṣāsvabhāvā āryaratnamegha-sandhinirmocanādau, āryaratnameghe ca- "vipaśyanāṃ nirūpayato niḥsvabhāvatāprativedhad animittapraveśa uktaḥ /" āryalaṅkāvatāre coktam- "yasmāt, mahāmate, buddhayā vicāryamāṇānāṃ svasāmānyalakṣaṇaṃ bhāvānāṃ nāvadhāryate / tenocyante niḥsvabhāvāḥ sarvadharmāḥ" iti / tatra tatra sūtre yā bhagavatā nānāprakārā pratyavekṣā nirdiṣṭā sā virudhyate, yadi bhūtapratyavekṣā na kartavyā / tasmād evaṃ yuktaṃ vaktuṃ vayam alpaprajñā alpavīryāścana śaknumo bāhuśrutyaṃ paryeṣitumiti / na hi tatpratikṣepo yukto bhagavatā (Bhk 236) bahudhā bāhuśrutyasya varṇitatvāt / tat punarbrahmaparipṛcchāyām uktam- "ye tvacintyeṣu dharmeṣu [cintana]viprayuktāḥ teṣām ayoniśa iti / tatrāpi ye paramārthato 'nutpannānāṃ dharmāṇām utpādaṃ parikalpyānityaduḥkhadirūpeṇa śrāvakādivaccintāṃ prakurvanti, teṣāṃ samāropāpavādāntena cintāṃ pravartayatām ayoniśaḥ tad bhavatīti tatpratiṣedhāya yad uktaṃ na bhūtapratyavekṣāyāḥ sa pratiṣedhaḥ tasyāḥ sarvasūtreṣvanujñānāt / tathā ca tatraiva brahmaparipṛcchāyām uktam- "cittaśūro bodhisattva āha-yaścittena sarvadharmāścintayati tatra cākṣato 'nupahataḥ sa tenocyate bodhisattvaḥ" iti / tatraivoktam- "kathaṃ vīryavanto bhavanti, yada sarvajñatācittaṃ vicīyamānānopalabhante" iti / punaḥ tatraivoktam- "matimantaśca te bhaviṣyanti yoniśo dharmān pratyavekṣaṇatayeti" / punaḥ tatraivoktam- "pravicinvanti te dharmān yathā māyāmarīciketi" /

tad evaṃ yatra yatrācintyādiprapañcaḥ śrūyate, tatra tatra śrutacintāmātreṇaiva tattvādhigamaṃ ye manyante, teṣām abhimānapratiṣedhena pratyātmavedanīyatvaṃ dharmāṇāṃ pratipādayate / ayoniśaśca cittapratiṣedhaḥ kriyata iti boddhavyam, na bhūtapratyavekṣāyāḥ pratiṣedhaḥ / anyathā bahutaraṃ yuktyāgamaviruddhaṃ syāt / yathoktaṃ prāk / kiñca yad eva śrutacintāmayyā prajñayā viditaṃ tad eva bhāvanāmayyā prajñayā bhāvanīyaṃ nānyat / saṃdiṣṭa-dhāvanabhūmyaśvadhāvanavat / tasmāt bhūtapratyavekṣā kartavyā / yadi nāmāsau vikalpasvabhāvātathāpi yoniśo manasikārasvabhāvatvāt tato bhūta nirvikalpajñānodaya iti kṛtvā tajjñānārthinā sā sevanīyā / nirvikalpe ca bhutajñānāgnau (Bhk 237) samutpanne, sati, kāṣṭhadvayanigharṣasaṃjātavanhinā tatkāṣṭhadvayadāhavat sāpi paścāt tenaiva dahyata evetyuktam āryaratnakūṭe /

yaccāpyucyate- na kiṃcit kuśalādikarma kartavyam iti / tatraivaivaṃ vadatā karmakṣayān muktirityājīvaka vādābhyupagamo bhavet / na hi bhagavatpravacane karmakṣayān muktiriṣyate / kiṃ tarhi, kleśakṣayāt / anādikālopacittasya hi karmaṇo na śakyate kṣayaḥ kartu tasyānantatvāt / apāyādiṣu ca tatphalaṃ bhuñjānasyāparasyāpi karmaṇaḥ prasūteḥ kleśeṣu cāvikaleṣu tatkaraṇatayā sthiteṣu karmaṇo niroddhum aśakyatvāt / pradīpānirodhe tatprabhāyā anirodhavat / na cāpi tasya vipaśyanāpavādinaḥ kleśakṣayaḥ saṃbhavatītyukta prāk / atha kleśakṣayārtha vipaśyanā sevanīyeti manyate, tadā kleśakṣayād eva muktiḥ sidhyatīti karmakṣaye tarhi vyarthaḥ śramaḥ / akuśalakarma na kartavyam iti yuktametat, kuśalaṃ tu kimiti pratiṣidhyate / saṃsārāvāhakatvāt pratiṣidhyata iti cet, tadayuktam / yad eva ātmādiviparyāsasamutthāpitam kuśalaṃ tad eva saṃsārāvāhakaṃ bhavati / na tu bodhisattvānāṃ mahākaruṇāsamutthāpitam anuttarasaṃbodhipariṇāmitamapi / tathā āryadaśabhūmake eta eva daśakuśalakarmapathāḥ pariṇāmanādipariśuddhiviśeṣeṇa śrāvakapratyekabuddhabodhisattvabuddhatvavāhakā bhavantīti nirdiṣṭam / āryaratnakūṭe ca, sarvamahānadīnāṃ mahāsamudre praviṣṭānāṃ payaḥ skandhavad bodhisattvānāṃ nānāmukhopacitaṃ kuśalamūlaṃ sarvajñatāpariṇāmitaṃ sarvajñataikarasaṃ bhavati iti varṇitam /

yā ca buddhabodhisattvānāṃ rūpakāyakṣetrapariśuddhiḥ prabhāparivāramahābhogatādisaṃpattiḥ dānādipuṇyasambhāraphalasattvena tatra tatra sūtre varṇitā bhagavatā sāpi virudhyate / kuśalacaryāpratiṣedhe ca prātimokṣasaṃvarādirapi pratikṣiptaḥ syāt / tato vyarthameva tasya śiromuṇḍitakāṣāyadhāraṇādi prasajyeta / kuśalakarmābhisaṃskāravaimukhye ca sati saṃsāravaimukhyaṃ sattvārthakriyāvaimukhyaṃ ca sevitaṃ bhavet / tato bodhiḥ tasya dūre bhavet / uktaṃ hyāryaṃsaṃdhinirmocane- "ekāntasattvārthavimukhasya ekāntasaṃskārā bhisaṃskāravimukhasya nānuttarāsamyaksaṃbodhiruktā mayeti / "āryopāliparipṛcchādau ca- "saṃsāre vaimukhyaṃ bodhisattvānāṃ paradauḥśīlyamiti varṇitam / saṃsāraparigrahaḥ tu paramaṃ śīlam /" uktam āryavimalakīrtinirdeśe ca- "upāyād bhavati saṃsāragamanaṃ bodhisattvānāṃ mokṣaḥ / upāyarahitā ca prajñā bandhaḥ, prajñārahitaścopāyo bandhaḥ / prajñāsahita upāyo mokṣaḥ, upāyasahitā prajñā mokṣaḥ" iti varṇitam / āryagaganagañje uktam- "saṃsāraparikhedo bodhisattvānāṃ mārakarma iti /" sūtrasamuccaye ca- "asaṃskṛtaṃ ca pratyavekṣate saṃskṛtaiśca kuśalaiḥ parikhidyata iti mārakarma iti / bodhimārga prajānāti pāramitāmārga ca na paryeṣata iti mārakarmeti /" yat punaḥ tatraivoktam- "dānacittābhiniveśād yāvat prajñācittābhiniveśāṃ mārakarmeti tatra na dānādināṃ sevāpratiṣedhaḥ kiṃ tvahaṃkāramamakāracittābhiniviṣṭasya grāhyagrāhakacittābhiniviṣṭasya caupalambhikasya yo viparītābhiniveśo dānādau tasya pratiṣedhaḥ / viparītābhiniveśasamuttthāpitā hi dānādayo 'pariśuddhā bhavantīti kṛtvā mārakarmetyuktam / anyathā dhyānam api na sevanīyaṃ syāt / tathā ca kathaṃ muktiḥ bhavet?

ata evaupalambhikasya sattvanānātvasaṃjñāyā yad dānādi tad apariśuddham iti pratipādanāya āryagaganagañje 'pi- "sattvanānātva [viparītakarma]saṃjñino dānādi mārakarmetyuktam" / yaccāpi [tri]skandhapariṇāmanāyām uktam- "sarvam eva dāna-śīla-kṣānti-vīrya-dhyāna-prajñāsamatām ajānatopalambhayati, tena paryeṣṭitadānena parāmṛṣṭaśīlena śīlaṃ rakṣitam / ātmaparasaṃjñinā kṣāntirbhāvitetyādi tat pratideśayāmīti /" tatrāpyaupalambhikasya nānatvasaṃjñino viparītābhiniveśasamutthāpitā dānādayo 'pi śuddhā bhavantīti etāvanmātraṃ pratipāditam / na tu sarvathā dānādīnāṃ sevanapratiṣedhaḥ / anyathā sarvasyaiva dānāderaviśeṣeṇa pratideśanā kṛtā syāt, nopalambhaviparyāsapatitasyaiva / yaccāpi brahmaparipṛcchāyām uktam- "yāvatī caryā sarvā parikalpyā / niṣparikalpyā ca bodhirityādi /" tatrāpyutpādādivikalpacaryāyāḥ prakṛtatvāt tasyāḥ parikalpatvamuktam / animittavihāre cānabhisaṃskāravāhinaḥ sthitasya bodhisattvasya vyākaraṇaṃ bhavati, nānyasyetyetāvanmātraṃ pratipāditam / sarveṣāṃ ca dānādīnāṃ paramārthato 'nutpannatvaṃ ca paridīpitam, na tu caryā na kartavyetyabhihitam /

anyathā hi dīpaṅkarāvadāne ye buddhā bhagavatā paryupāsitā yeṣāṃ tu kalpamapi bhagavatā bhāṣamāṇena na śakyaṃ nāmaparikīrtnaṃ kathaṃ teṣāṃ bhagavatā bodhisattvāvasthāyāṃ caryāpratiṣedho na kṛtaḥ / dīpaṅkareṇāpi tadānīṃ bhagavataścaryāpratiṣedho na kṛta eva / kiṃ tu yadā śāntānimittavihāre 'ṣṭamyāṃ bhūmau sthito 'sau dṛṣṭastadāsau vyākṛto bhagavatā, tatra tasya caryā (Bhk 240) apratiṣiddhā / sā cānimittavihāraparamatā bodhisattvānām aṣṭāmyāṃ bhūmau daśabhūmikairbuddhaiḥ pratiṣiddhā 'mā bhūd etad eva teṣāṃ parinirvāṇam' iti kṛtvā yadi tu sarvathā caryā na kartavyā bhavet pūrvoktaṃ sarva virudhyeta /

yacca tatraiva brahmaparipṛcchāyām uktam- "dānaṃ ca dadāti taccāvipākābhikāṅkṣī, śīlaṃ ca rakṣati taccāsamāropitaḥ" ityādi / caturbhiḥ brahma! dharmaiḥ samanvāgatā bodhisattvā avaivarttikā bhavanti buddhadharmeṣu / katamaiścaturbhiḥ aparimitasaṃsāraparigraheṇa aparimitabuddhopasthānapūjayetyādi sarvaṃ virudhyeta / nāpi mṛdvindriyeṇaiva caryā kartavyā na tu tīkṣṇendriyeṇeti yuktaṃ vaktum / yataḥ prathamāṃ bhūmimupādāya yāvaddaśamībhūmipratiṣṭhitānāṃ bodhisattvānāṃ dānādicaryā utpadyate, na ca pariśiṣṭāsu na samudācaratīti vacanāt / nahi bhūmipraviṣṭā api mṛdvindriyāyuktāḥ / āryopaliparipṛcchāyām- "anutpattikadharmakṣāntipratiṣṭhitenaiva tyāgamahātyāgātityāgāḥ kartavyāḥ" iti varṇitam / sūtrasamuccaye ca- "ṣaṭpāramitādipratipattimān bodhisattvastathāgatarddhigatikaḥ" iti varṇitam / na ca tathāgatarddhigateranyā śīghratarā gatirasti / nāpi ṣaṭpāramitādaśabhūmivyatirekeṇānyo bodhisattvānāṃ mārgo 'sti yaḥ śīghrataravāhīsyāt / krameṇaiva ca cittasaṃtateḥ kanakaśuddhivat śuddhirbhavatīti sūtre varṇitam [āryalaṅkāvatāradaśabhūmikādau coktaṃ]- tathatāyāṃ yadā sthito bodhisattvo bhavati, tadā prathamāyāṃ bhūmau praviṣṭo bhavati / tataḥ krameṇaiva pūrvabhūmīḥ pariśodhya tathāgatabhūmiṃ praviśatīti / ato nāsti bhūmipāramitāvyatirekeṇa [yugapat] buddhatvapurapraveśe anyanmukhaṃ nāpi bhagavatā kvacit sūtrādau deśitam /

dhyāna eva ṣaṭpāramitāntargamāt tatsevanād eva sarvapāramitāḥ sevitā bhavantyato na dānādayaḥ [anyapāramitāḥ] pṛthak sevitavyā iti cet tad ayuktam / evaṃ hi buddhe gomayamaṇḍale 'pi ṣaṭpāramitāntargamān maṇḍalakam eva kartavyaṃ syānna dhyānādyāḥ / śrāvakasyāpi nirodhasamādhisamāpannasya nimittād eva asamudācārāt tadā ṣaṭpāramitāparipūriprasaṅgaḥ / tataśca na śrāvakebhyo bodhisattvānāṃ bhedaḥ pratipādito bhavet / sarvāvasthāyām eva tu bodhisattvena ṣaṭpāramitāḥ paripūrayitavyā iti saṃdarśanārthe ekaikapāramitāntarbhāvaḥ sarvapāramitānāṃ bhagavatā sandarśitaḥ / na punarekaiva pāramitā sevanīyeti / tathā coktaṃ sarvadharmavaipulye- "yo 'pyayaṃ maitreya! ṣaṭpāramitāsamudāgamo bodhisattvānāṃ saṃbodhāya taṃ te mohapuruṣā evaṃ vakṣyanti, prajñāpāramitāyām evaṃ bodhisattvena śikṣitavyam, kiṃ śeṣābhiḥ pāramitābhiriti / te 'nyāḥ pāramitā dūṣayitavyā maṃsyante / tat kiṃ manyase, ajita! duṣprajñaḥ sa kāśirājo 'bhūt, yena kapotārthena śyenāya svamāṃsāni dattāni? maitreya āha- no hīdaṃ bhagavan! bhagavān āha- yāni mayā maitreya! bodhisattvacaryāṃ caratā ṣaṭpāramitāpratisaṃyuktāni kuśalamūlānyupacitāni / apakṛtaṃ nu taiḥ kuśalamūlaiḥ? maitreya āha, no hīdaṃ bhagavan, bhagavān āha- tvaṃ tāvad ajita! ṣaṣṭikalpān dānāpāramitāyāṃ samudāgataḥ / evaṃ yāvat ṣaṣṭikalpān prajñāpāramitāyāṃ samudāgataḥ / tat te mohapuruṣā evaṃ vakṣyanti / ekanayenaiva bodhiryaduta śūnyatānayeneti te caryāpariśuddhā bhavanti" ityādi / kevalaṃ śūnyātām eva sevamānāḥ śrāvakavannirvāṇe patanti / ataḥ upāyasahitā prajñā sevanīyā /
ata evācāryanāgārjunapādaiḥ sūtrasamuccaye 'bhihitam- "na copāyakauśalarahitena bodhisattvena gambhīradharmatāyāmabhiyoktavyam" iti / atra (Bhk 242) āryavimalakīrtinirdeśādijñāpakastairūpanyastaḥ, na cācāryanāgārjunapādīyaṃ vacanam / yuktayāgamopetaṃ tyaktvā bhagavadvacanaṃ ca parityajya anyasya mūrkhajanasya vacanaṃ prekṣāvatā grahītum ayuktam / āryaratnakūṭe ca- "sakaladānādikuśalopetatayā sarvākāravaropetaśūnyatā sevanīyetyuktaṃ na tu kevalā /" āryaratnakūṭe coktam- tadyathā kāśyapāmātyasaṃgṛhītā rājānaḥ sarvakāryāṇi kurvanti evam eva upāyakauśalyasaṃgṛhītā bodhisattvasya prajñā sarvabuddhakāryāṇi karoti /

ata eva kevalāṃ śūnyatāṃ sevamānasya mā bhūnnirvāṇapraveśa iti / bhagavatā āryatathāgataguhyasūtre" coktam- "naikāntanirālambanaṃ cittamātrasevanaṃ kartavyam api tu upāyakauśalyam api sevanīyam iti pradarśanārtham uktam- tadyathāpi nāma, kulaputra! agnirupādānād jvalati / anupādānaḥ śāmyati / evam evārambaṇataścittaṃ jvalati, anārambaṇaṃ śāmyati / tatropāyakuśalo bodhisattvaḥ prajñāpāramitāpariśuddhārambaṇopaśamam api jānāti / kuśalamūlārambaṇaṃ ca na śāmyati / kleśārambaṇaṃ ca notthāpayati / pāramitārambaṇaṃ cotthāpayati / śūnyatārambaṇaṃ ca pratyavekṣate sarvasattvamahākaruṇārambaṇaṃ ca prekṣate iti hi kulaputra! upāyakuśalaḥ prajñāpāramitāpariśuddho bodhisattvo 'nārambane vaśitāṃ pratilabhate" iti vistaram uktvā punaśca vadatyevaṃ hi- "nāsti tat kiṃcid ārambaṇaṃ bodhisattvasya yat sarvajñajñānābhinirhārāya na saṃtiṣṭhate / yasya bodhisattvasya sarvārambāṇāni bodhipariṇāmitāni, ayaṃ bodhisattva upāyakuśala sarvadharmān bodhyanugatān paśyati / tadyathāpi nāma kulaputra, nāsti tat trisāhasramahāsāhasre lokadhātau yat sattvānām upabhogāya na syāt / (Bhk 243) evam eva, kulaputra nāsti tat kiṃcid ārambaṇaṃ yad upāyakuśalo bodhisattvo bodhāya copakārībhūtaṃ na paśyati" iti vistaraḥ / evam anantasūtrānteṣu bodhisattvānāṃ prajñopāyapratipattirnirdiṣṭā / tatra yadi nāma svayaṃ na śakyate dānādidpuṇyasaṃbhāravīryam ārabdhuṃ tathāpi anyeṣām evam upadeśo dātuṃ na yuktaśceti svaparadrohaḥ kṛtaḥ syāt /

tad evaṃ yuktyāgamābhyāṃ pratipāditaṃ yathā bodhisattvenāvaśyaṃ bhūtapratyavekṣā kartavyā sakaladānādipuṇyasambhāraścopārjayitavyaḥ / tataḥ prekṣāvatālpaśrutānām ābhimānikānāṃ vacanaṃ viṣam ivāvadhūyāryanāgārjunādividvajjanavacanāmṛtanugatena sakalasattveṣu mahakāruṇām upajanayya māyākāravad aviparyastenānuttarasaṃbodhipariṇāmitasakaladānādikuśalacaryāyām aśeṣajagaduddharaṇe cābhiyuktne abhāvitavyam / yathoktam āryadharmasaṃgītau-

māyākāro yathā kaścin nirmitaṃ moktumudyataḥ /
na cāsya nirmite saṅgo jñātapūrvo yato 'sya saḥ //
tribhavaṃ nirmitaprakhyaṃ jñātvā saṃbodhipāragaḥ /
sannahyanti jagaddhetoḥ jñātapūrve jage tathā // iti tasyaivaṃ /

prajñām upāyaṃ ca satataṃ satkṛtyābhyasyataḥ krameṇa [cittaṃ] saṃtatiparipākād uttarottaraviśuddhataratamakṣaṇodayād bhūtārthabhāvanāprakarṣaparyantagamena sakalakalpanājālarahitaṃ sphuṭataraṃ dharmadhātvadhigamaṃ vimalaṃ niścalanivātadīpavallokottarajñānam utpadyate / tadā ca vastuparyantatālambanam pratilabdhaṃ bhavati / darśanamārgaṃ ca praviṣṭo bhavati / prathamā ca bhūmiḥ prāptā bhavati / tatastaduttarā bhūmīḥ pariśodhayan krameṇa kanakavad aśeṣāvaraṇāpagame sati asaktam apratihataṃ jñānaṃ pratilabhya buddhabhūmim aśeṣaguṇādhārāṃ prāpto bhavati / kāryapariniṣpattiṃ cālambanaṃ pratilabhate / tasmād buddhatvādhigamārthinā madhyamapaddhatau tāvad abhiyogaḥ karaṇīya iti /

prakāśya yat prāpi mayā śubham asamapaddhitam /
puṇyamastu janastena prāpto madhyamapaddhitam //
dūrīkṛterṣyādimalā hi santo guṇairatṛptāḥ salilairivābdhiḥ /
vivecya gṛṇhanti subhāṣitāni haṃsāḥ payo yatpayasi prahṛṣṭāḥ //

pakṣapātākulaṃ tasmād dūrīkṛtaṃ mano budhaiḥ /
sarvameva grahītavyaṃ bālādapi subhāṣitam //
