kuśalamarīcitoyākārapratibhāsamavagāhanāya paryeṣante | trividhaṃ karma- kāyikaṃ vācikaṃ mānasikañca | kāyikamapi trividhaṃ kuśalamakuśalamavyākṛtañca | evaṃ vācikamānasike vistareṇohye | karmaiva saṃkleśaḥ karmasaṃkleśaḥ saṃkleśakaratvāt saṃkleśahetutvācca | kleśasaṃkleśajani[ta]tvā[t] yasya saṃkleśakaratvamavagantavyaṃ, janmakleśahetutvāt saṃkleśahetutvaṃ | janma utpattiḥ prādurbhāva ityanarthāntaraṃ | janmaiva saṃkleśaḥ janmasaṃkleśaḥ janmasaṃkleśaphalatvāt saṃkleśahetutvācca | yataḥ karmasaṃkleśād rāgiṇāṃ janma vītarāgajanmādarśanāt | ataḥ kleśakarma saṃkleśakarma saṃkleśaphalatvāt kleśasaṃkleśahetutvācca janmasaṃkleśa ityucyate | ata eva nirdeśo nālpīyān na ca bhūyān ratnatrayavat | adhunā tripadyeva bahuvrīhiḥ | prahīṇāḥ [paritya]ktāḥ apanītāstiraskṛtāḥ aśeṣāḥ nikhilā vāsanāsahitāḥ saṃkleśā kleśa[karma]janmākhyāyena [buddhena] bhagavatā, sa bhavati prahīṇāśeṣasaṃkleśaḥ | anena buddhasya bhagavataḥ prahāṇasaṃpadaṃ darśayati | nanu [prahīṇa]saṃkleśa ityeva vaktavyaṃ, kimaśeṣagrahaṇena? naitadasti | yadi prahīṇasaṃkleśa ityevocyate, tadā śrāvakapratyekabuddh[ānāmapi] grahaṇaṃ prāpnoti | te 'pi prahīṇasaṃkleśā bhavanti kliṣṭājñānātyantābhāvāt, na tu prahīṇāśeṣasaṃkleśāḥ akliṣṭā [jñānātyantābhā]vāt | tathāpyeṣāṃ pratyekajinaśrāvakāṇāṃ balavaiśā[ra]dyādiṣu (SŚ 3) tathāgatadharmeṣu anekaloka[dhātuga]teṣu deśeṣu atītānāgatabhedabhinneṣu ca na bhavatyevākliṣṭamajñānaṃ | [kiṃ punaḥ] saṃjānīṣe tvaṃ sāriputra, tathāgatasya śīlaskandhaṃ samādhiskandhaṃ prajñāskandhaṃ vimuktiskandhaṃ vimuktijñāna[darśana]skandhamiti pṛṣṭenoktaṃ- no bhadanteti sūtrāt āryamahāmaudgalyāyanasya svamātṛjanmadeśāparijñānāt ā[rya]sāriputreṇa ca pravrajyāpekṣapuruṣapratyākhyānāt mayūracandrakādiniṣpattikarmaviśeṣāparijñānācceti | ato mābhūt teṣāṃ grahaṇaṃ | jñeyaṃ boddhavyaṃ parijñātavyamityanarthāntaraṃ | niścayena dhīyante avatiṣṭhante asmin bhāvā iti nidhirādhāraḥ | ambhasāṃ vāriṇāṃ nidhirambhonidhiḥ | loke hi ambhonidhiśabdo bāhyavastuni prasiddhaḥ | iha tu tatsādharmyāt yathā mahāsamudro gambhīratvāt atiduruttaratvāccāmbhonidhirucyate, evaṃ jñeyamapi duṣparijñānāt samastānāvedyatvena duravagāhayatvāt ambhonidhiḥ | jñeyamevāmbhonidhiḥ jñeyāmbhonidhiḥ | pāraṃ gacchatīti jñeyāmbho[ni]dhipāragaḥ pārāvāragamanavat | anenāpi jñānasaṃpadaṃ daśabalasya darśayati | prahīṇāśeṣasaṃkleśaścāsau jñeyāmbhonidhipāragaśceti prahīṇāśeṣasaṃkleśajñeyāmbho[ni]dhipāragaḥ | atastaṃ prahīṇāśeṣasaṃkleśajñeyāmbhoni[dhi]pāragaṃ | tamīdṛgviśiṣṭaṃ buddhaṃ bhagavantaṃ praṇamya kāyavāṅmanobhiriti śeṣaḥ | samānakartṛkayoḥ kriyayoḥ pūrvakāle 'yaṃ ktvā vidhīyate prāṇamyeti | yathā snātvā bhuṃkta iti | ataḥ pṛcchayate kaṃ praṇamya kiṃ kariṣyasītyāha- śrāmaṇerāṇāmācāraḥ saṃgrahīṣyate | tatra śrāmaṇamuccaṃ nirvāṇapuramīranti gacchantīti śrāmaṇerāḥ | (SŚ 4) athavā śrāmaṇyamamalo mārgaḥ tamīranti gacchantīti śrāmaṇerāḥ | śrāmaṇānāmerā dāsā iti kecit | teṣāṃ kiṃ? ācāraḥ saṃgrahīṣyate | ācaraṇamācāraḥ akuśalaparivarjanaṃ kuśalabhajanaṃ ceti yo 'rthaḥ | nanu ca evaṃ sati granthasyācāratvaṃ na prāpnoti kriyārūpatvāt | naiṣa doṣaḥ | ācārapratipādako 'pi grantha ācāra ucyata iti upacārāt jātakamālāvat kaṃsavadhavat | ācarantyasminniti kṛtvā ācāraśabdena śrīghanācārasaṃgraha evākhyāyate | saṃgrahīṣyata iti saṃgrahaḥ | kariṣyate āripsata iti yāvat | mayeti vākyaśeṣaḥ | anyathā uttamapuruṣeṇaiva nirdeśamakariṣyat, ācāraṃ saṃgrahīṣyāmīti | saṃkṣepato 'smin śloke buddhasya bhagavataḥ prahāṇasaṃpat jñānasaṃpat, trailokya śāstṛtvaṃ, aviparītaśāsanakāraṇañca paridīpitaṃ prahīṇāśeṣasaṃkleśaśabdena jñeyāmbhonidhipāragaśabdena ca | yataḥ prahīṇāśeṣasaṃkleśatvaṃ prahāṇasaṃpadaṃ nātivartate, jñeyāmbhonidhipāragatvaṃ ca jñānasaṃpadaṃ | prahāṇajñānasaṃpajjñāne yo yuktaḥ, sa trailokya gururbhavati yathābhūtaśāstāceti |

prahāṇajñānasaṃpattī trailokya ekaśāstṛtā |
samyakśāsanahetuśca ślokenābhihitaṃ kramāt ||

śaraṇaṃ bhavediti vistaraḥ | nanu cācāraḥ saṃgrahīṣyata iti anantarābhidhānādācāraḥ saṃgrahītavyaḥ kasmāt śaraṇagamanādikamucyate? yadyapyetacchrāmaṇerāṇāmityanantaraṃ prakṛtaṃ śrāmaṇerāṇāmācāraḥ saṃgrahīṣyata iti | te ca śrāmaṇerā daśaśikṣā padaparigṛhītā eva prādhānyenābhipretāḥ, na gṛhiṇaḥ | sa eṣa śrāmaṇeramāvaḥ teṣāṃ śrāmaṇerāṇāṃ kathaṃ bhavati, yena śrāmaṇerabhāvena samanvāgatānāmācāraḥ saṃgrahīṣyata iti | ato yathoddeśaḥ tathā nirdeśa iti nyāyāt śrāmaṇerabhāva eva tāvadādau vaktavya ityāha | śaraṇaṃ gatavāniti ślokaḥ | tatra trāṇārthaḥ śaraṇārthaḥ | ata evāha bhagavān-

bahavaḥ śaraṇaṃ yānti parvatāṃśca vanāni ca |
ārāmacaityavṛkṣāṃśca manuṣyā bhayatarjitāḥ ||

iti gāthāvacanāt | gatavāniti prayātavān | buddhamiti | yathā dinakarakarodayādāpāditasakalakarṇikārapramuditadvirephavṛndaparipīyamānakamalaṣaṇḍo buddha ityucyate, evaṃ bhagavānapi bhūtabhāvisāṃpratikādhvanirmuktajñeyabuddhervikāśanāt mohasaṃkocāpagamāt buddha ityucyate | tathā cāha-

trailokye cādhvanirmukte jñeye vikāśanāddhiyaḥ |
vibuddhapratibuddhādvā mohasaṃkocaghātakaḥ || iti |

athavā yaḥ puruṣo vyapanītanidraḥ suptotthito vibuddha ityucyate | evaṃ bhagavānapi saṃsāramahāśayanādutthitaḥ ajñānanidrāpagamāt bauddhasya jñānasya sākṣātkaraṇādbuddha ityucyate | tathā cāha-

ajñānanidrācchedāttatvajñānasamudbhavāt |
yo vibuddhaḥ sa vai buddho vibuddhapuruṣo yathā || iti |

ajñānatimirapaṭalaparyavanaddhanetrān prāṇino bodhayatīti buddhaḥ, anuttareṇa jñānena budhyate vā śivamiti buddhaḥ | sa ca trividhena dharmasāmbhogikena nairmāṇikena ca vyavasthita iti anyatra śāstrāntare nirdiṣṭamiti granthagauravaparihārārthamiti iha nābhidhīyate | dharmamiti | svalakṣaṇadhāra[ṇa]svabhāvāt, na dhvaṃsyata iti vā dharmaḥ | sa ca dvividhaḥ- adhigamasvabhāvaḥ āgamasvabhāvaśceti | tatrādhigamo bodhipakṣā dharmā anantā anavadyā[ś]ca | āgamaḥ sūtravinayābhidharmā iti | eṣa dvividhaḥ dharmaḥ | saṃghamiti | catvāraḥ pratipannakāḥ catvāraḥ phalāptāḥ abhedyatvena saṃghagatatvāt aṣṭau mahāpuruṣapudgalāḥ saṃgha ityucyante | katame punaste aṣṭau? yaduta strotāpattiphalasākṣātkriyāyai pratipannakaḥ strotāpannakaḥ, sakṛdāgāmiphalasākṣātkriyāyai pratipannakaḥ sakṛdāgāmī, anāgāmiphalasākṣātkriyāyai pratipannakaḥ anāgāmī, arhatphalasākṣātkriyāyai pratipannakaḥ arhanniti | tathā cāha-

buddhe dharme tathā saṃghe mārakoṭiśatairapi |
bhettuṃ na śakyate yasmāt tasmāt saṃgho 'bhidhī(ya)te || iti |

atastaṃ buddhaṃ dharma saṃghaṃ śaraṇaṃ yo ga[ta]vāniti yāvadeṣaḥ śrāmaṇero munermata (SŚ 7) iti anena padena saṃbandhanīyaḥ | kadācid bhayādināpi śaraṇaṃ gacchatītyata āha | bhaktitaḥ prasādavegenetyarthaḥ | atha kimarthamādau pañcaśikṣāpadāni na grāhyante śaraṇagama[nā]didānataḥ | yo hi tasya śaraṇaṃ gacchati, sa tasyājñāṃ paripālayati nānyaḥ | ato yadi na pañcaśikṣāpadāni ādau na grāhyante na trīṇi śaraṇagamanādīni pradīyante, tadā mumukṣuṇā śikṣāpadaparipālanaṃ pratyavajñaiva syāt | ato mābhūdavajñetyādau śaraṇagamanapradānataḥ | śikṣāpañcakamādāyeti | śikṣaṇaṃ śikṣā | pravṛttinivṛttyātmake śīle vā pratipattirācaraṇaṃ samādānataḥ śīle sammukhīkaraṇamiti yo 'rthaḥ | śikṣaiva pañcakaṃ śikṣāpañcakaṃ, evaṃ śikṣāpañca[kā]nītyarthaḥ | kārikābandhānuguṇyācca śikṣāpañcakamityuktaṃ | kāni punaḥ śikṣāpadāni? prāṇātipāta-adattādānakāmamithyācāramṛṣāvādasurāmaireyamadyasthānakebhyo viramaṇaṃ | ādāyeti gṛhītvā | kiṃ yo 'nupravrajito jinaṃ? ya iti yaḥ puruṣaḥ | anupravrajita iti paścāt pravrajitaḥ | kaṃ pratītyāha | jinaṃ | jitakleśatvājjinaḥ | jitātmapāpakā dharmāstenopagaḥ | jinoktamiti śratervacanāt | buddhaṃ bhagavantaṃ pravrajitaṃ anupravrajāmīti yo vācamudīrayatītyarthaḥ ||

yāvajjīvaṃ vadhasteyamityādi | yāvajjīvamityanena kālāvadhi darśayati vadhaḥ prāṇātipātaḥ, steyaṃ cauryaṃ, maithunaṃ abrahmacaryaṃ, anṛtavākyaṃ mṛṣāvādaḥ | vadhaśca steyañca maithunaṃ cānṛtavākyaṃ ceti vadhasteyamaithunānṛtavākyaṃ | ataḥ kiṃ tasya, kiṃ virata iti paurastyena padena saṃbandhaḥ | kimetasmādeva yo virataḥ saṃvarī bhaṇyate? netyāha | kiṃ tarhi madyapānācca | surāmaireyamadyapānāccetyarthaḥ | (SŚ 8) atha surāmaireyamadyapānamiti ko 'rthaḥ? surānnāsavaḥ | maireyaṃ dravyāsavaḥ | te ca kadācit aprāptamadyasadbhāve bhavata iti | ato madyagrahaṇaṃ | pūgaphalakodravādayo madayantīti surāmaireyagrahaṇaṃ | mahoccairityādi | śerate 'sminnidrāṃ prayātīti śayanaṃ | āsyate 'sminniti upaviśanti āsanaṃ | mahoccaiśca śayanañcāsanañca mahoccaiḥ śayanāsanaṃ | ataḥ tasmāduccaśayanamahāśayanayoryo 'rthaḥ |

nṛtyāderityādi | nartanaṃ nṛtyaṃ | bāhuvikṣepānnartanaṃ nṛtyaṃ | dvayordordaṇḍayoryadutkṣipya nartanaṃ nṛtyamucyate | tathā vakṣyate bāhuvikṣepakaṃ nṛtyamiti | ādiśabdena gītavāditrayorgrahaṇaṃ | tena nṛtyādiriti nṛtyagītavāditrādityarthaḥ | uccaiḥ svareṇa gāyanaṃ gītaṃ | vīṇāveṇumṛdaṅgādivāditravādanaṃ vāditramucyate | gandhamālyā[dyā]diti | gandhyata iti gandho ta ityarthaḥ | upayogo 'tra mālāyāṃ hitaṃ mālyaṃ campakāśokādikusumaṃ | ādau bhavamādyaṃ | ādyaśabdena vilepanasya grahaṇaṃ | tena gandhamālyavilepanādityarthaḥ | haritālādivarṇena vadanamrakṣaṇaṃ vilepanaṃ | vibhūṣaṇārtha vilepanaṃ vilepanamiti kṛtvā | vikālāśanata iti | atra sūryodayādāramya yāvat keśamātrāna tītako madhyāhnakālaśabdenābhidhīyate | vigataḥ sa īdṛgvidhaḥ kālo yasyāparāhṇādeḥ sa vikālaḥ | tasmin kāle 'śanaṃ bhojanaṃ | tasmādvikālāśanādityarthaḥ | tatheti | tathāśabdena yo virataḥ iti saṃbadhyate | rukmarūpyagrahācceti | rukmaṃ suvarṇa, rūpyaṃ rajataṃ, tayorgrahaṇaṃ rūkmarūpyagrahaṇa | ataḥ tasmājjātarūpaparajatapratigrahaṇāditi yāvat | eṣaḥ śrāmaṇero munermata iti | yaḥ prāṇātipā[tā]dvirataḥ yāvajjātarūparaja taparigrahāt sa eṣaḥ śrāmaṇero (SŚ 9) munermataḥ | buddhasya bhagavata iṣṭo 'bhipreta iti yāvat | yadyapi sarve buddhā bhagavantaḥ kāyavākcittamaunato muniriti sāmānyavācinā muniśabdenābhidhīyante, tathāpi bhagavataḥ śākyamunergrahaṇaṃ veditavyaṃ | tat śāsanapratipannatvādasmadādīnāṃ anyadīyaśāsanāntardhānācca | ślokabandhavaiguṇyāt śākyamunermata iti noktaṃ | śākyaśabdalopaṃ vā kṛtvā idaṃ nirdiṣṭaṃ mu narmata iti | yathā satyabhāmābhāmeti | saṃkṣepatastaduktaṃ bhavati- ratnatraye śaraṇaṃ gatvā pañcaśikṣāpadāni parigṛhyabuddha bhagavantaṃ pravrajitamanupravrajāmīti vācamuccārya prāṇātipātādvirato yāvat jātarūparajataparigrahācca sa eṣa śrāmaṇero munermataḥ | abhipreta iti | āha cātra-

pūrvaṃ triśaraṇa datvā pañcaśikṣāpadā[ni] ca |
keśānapanayet paścāt snāpayecca vratārthinaṃ ||

kāṣāyamaṃśukaṃ dadyāt anupravrājayettataḥ |
daśaśikṣāpadānīti prāhurvinayavedinaḥ ||

idānīṃ śrāmaṇerabhāvopāyaḥ nirdiśyate | eṣāṃ śrāmaṇerāṇāmācārasaṃgrahamārabhate | sakalena śarīreṇetyādi | tatra śīryante 'sminnaṅgānīti śarīraṃ | tacca kaścit pradeśo 'pi saṃbhavati ityataḥ sakalagrahaṇaṃ | tena sakalena śarīreṇa sarveṇa prakāreṇa kāyenetyarthaḥ | śarīrānyatareṇa veti | hastapādamastakādisamudāyasyānyatareṇa hastādinetyarthaḥ | śarīrāvayavena hastapādādinā gṛhītaṃ śarīrapratibaddhaṃ | śarīravyatiriktena latālaguḍenetyarthaḥ | na hanyānna mārayet | kamityāha | prāṇinaṃ | prāṇonāma vāyuḥ, so 'syāstīti prāṇī | sa ca kiṃ viśiṣṭa eva? pañcaśākhādi nirvṛttaḥ parigṛhayate | ataḥ kalalādiśātane saṃvaratyāgo na bhavati | prāṇiśabdena ca manuṣyagatiparyāyaḥ eva gṛhayate na prāṇimātraṃ, sajantukasalilādiparibhoge duṣkṛtavacanāt | jātivācī vāyaṃ śabdaḥ | tena strīpuruṣapaṇḍakaṃ pañcaśākhādi[nir]vṛttaṃ mārayataḥ syādeva saṃvaratyāgaḥ | anena ślokena kāyiko vikramaḥ pratiṣiddho bhavati ||

vācikavikramapratiṣedhapadamāha | mṛtyorvarṇamityādi | mṛtyurjīvitendriyanirodhaḥ | tasya varṇaḥ praśaṃsā, taṃ na bhāṣeta | na vadedityarthaḥ | kṛtapuṇyo bhavān, udyānayātrā tava paralokagamanamiti śrutvā kaścidātmāna hanyāt | tadidānīṃ atra duṣkṛtapūrvakaḥ saṃvaratyāga iti pratiṣidhyate | mṛtyorvarṇa na bhāṣayet, śastrahāraṃ na caiṣayediti | śastraṃ harati vahatīti vā śastrahāro vadhyaghātakaḥ | tatra paryeṣayet | vadhakena māraṇābhiprāyeṇa | cittena manasā | māraṇāya māraṇārthaṃ | na niyojayediti ||

pūrvoktaparyāyavyatirekai ranyairapi prayogairmārayataḥ saṃvaratyāgo bhavatīti pratipādayannāha | virekavamanālepeti vistaraḥ | tatra virekaṃ grastanaṃ, vamanaṃ chardanaṃ | ālepena varṇānyathātve sati vinaśyati | viṣaṃ jātimaṃ kṛtrimañca, śastraṃ kuliśādi | virekaśca vamanaṃ cālepanaṃ cetyādi dvandvaḥ | teṣāmabhisaṃskaraṇamabhisaṃskṛtiḥ | tāṃ na kuryāt | kimartha? prāṇighātāya manuṣyavadhārthaṃ | na ca garbhasya śā[ta]namiti | garbhaśātanaṃ na kuryādityarthaḥ | kecit garbhaśātananimittaṃ virekādikaṃ na kuryāditi nimittasaptamīṃ varṇayanti ||

vadhakenāpi cittena bhrāntyā mārayataḥ saṃvaratyāgo na bhavatī ti darśayannāha | madhyapaścātpurogeṣviti vistaraḥ | madhye paścāt puro gacchantīti madhyapaścātpurogāḥ | atasteṣu madhyapaścātpurogeṣu manuṣyeṣu gacchatsu yatraiva vadhakaṃ manaḥ yasminneva puruṣe vadhakacittaṃ tameva puruṣaṃ dhnato mārayataḥ | asyeti śrāmaṇerasya | hiṃsā prāṇivadhaḥ | nānyaṃ tasmātpuruṣādanyaṃ puruṣaṃ bhrāntyā mārayataḥ asya hiṃsā na bhavatītyarthaḥ | ka evamāha | ityato bravīti | āha sarvavit | sarvaṃ vettīti sarvavit, bhagavān buddhaḥ | sa evamāhetyanenāptāgamaṃ darśayati ||

anyadapi prayogāntaraṃ na kāryaṃ māraṇāyeti darśayannāha | kūṭetyādi | kūṭamiti pāśaṃ varṇayanti | avamārthamiti pāśayantraṃ | avaṣṭambhamiti yantrameva, yena sahasākramya hanyāt | avapayamiti avapātaṃ varṇayanti | mantribhiḥ mantraprabhāvena mṛtake piśācādipraveśanaṃ vetālaḥ | kūṭādīnāmabhisaṃskaraṇamabhisaṃskṛtiḥ |
tāmavapayañca kiṃ na kuryāt? māraṇāya śarīriṇāṃ sattvānāṃ | anyathā tu na doṣaḥ |

kūṭakaṃ pāśamityāhuḥ avamārthaṃ pāśayantrakaṃ |

viṣamanadīpratāraṇamapi tartuṃ na kalpayati tamiti darśayitumāha | bhujagetyādi | bhujābhyāṃ gacchatīti bhujagaḥ sapaḥ | āvarto vegī | bhujagaścāvartakaśceti dvandvaḥ | teṣāṃ bhayaṃ | yatra yasyā nadyāḥ tīrthe bhayaṃ bhavet tattīrthaṃ na prakāśayet ||

kiñca rājñā vā yatra ghātyate tanmārgaṃ na prakāśayediti daṇḍādidānapratiṣedhopāyena paraṃ ghātayituṃ na kṣamata iti darśayitumāha | kiñcidbhūpataya ityādi | bhūḥ pṛthvī, tāṃ pālayatīti bhapatiḥ rājā | bhūpataye rājñe kiñcidapi mā dāstvaṃ | kiñcidapi dravyaṃ mā dāsyasītyarthaḥ | varaṃ jīvitaṃ tyajeti | jīvitaparityāgaṃ varaṃ kuru tvamityarthaḥ | ityevaṃ samucitaṃ pratyāyādānārtha pratibaddhasya puruṣa syāntike 'yuktaṃ ayuktarūpaṃ vacanaṃ na vadedityeke | bhadantaparahitaghoṣastvāha | ā | samantāt sarvatra kārye niyuktaḥ ityāyuktaḥ vyāpṛtaka ucyate, tenāyuktena baddhaḥ saṃruddha yo 'nyaḥ puruṣaḥ tasmin baddhāyukte puruṣe ityevaṃ na vadet | varaṃ mriyasva mā tvaṃ kiñcit dravyaṃ rājñe dehīti | anyathā hi yaḥ saruddho vyāpṛtakaḥ tasmin baddhāyukta ityevaṃ na vadedityarthaḥ pūrvavat | anyathā varaṃ mriyasva mā tvaṃ kiñcidayuktāya dehi ityuktaṃ syāt | na bhūpataya iti niyuktairnānyasya puruṣasya baddhatvāt ||

sabhayaṃ layanaṃ vadhakacittenopadeṣṭuṃ na kalpata iti darśayannāha | bhujagetyādi | atra vihāraśabdena layanamevocyate viharantyasminniti kṛtvā | tenāyaṃ vākyārtho jāyate
| (SŚ 14) yasmin layane sarpādibhayaṃ bhavati tadvadhakābhi prāyeṇāgantukāyabhikṣave noddiśet | ya uddiśati tasya duṣkṛtaṃ bhavati asati maraṇe, maraṇe tu saṃvaratyāgo bhavati ||

marjārādivyapadeśenāpi śatru mārayannayatirbhavatīti pratipādayitumāha | vyāghrādivyapadeśenetyādi | yaḥ śrāmaṇeraḥ śaṭhajātīyaḥ vyāghraṃ hanmīti vyapadeśaṃ kṛtvā śatruṃ hanyāt sa vihārād ghaṭṭanīyaḥ | āśu śīghraṃ | asau cellakairnirdvāraṇīyaḥ | vairiṇi mṛte satīti boddhavyaṃ ||

adhārmikakriyākāramapi pratiṣedhayati tathā kāryamityādinā | tathā kartavyaṃ yathā na jovedekāpyariḥ śatruriti | evamarīn śatrūn | yatiḥ | adharmyā na kriyā, adhārmikakriyākāro na kāryaḥ | saṃsmṛtya krakacopama iti | krakacena karayantreṇa upamā yasmin mṛte tadevamucyate | tattu saṃsmṛtya kiṃ? adhārmikakriyākāro na kārya iti saṃbandhaḥ |

paraprayogeṇāpi mārayannayatirbhavatīti darśayati | vadhā ityādi | eko dvau trayo vāpi ye śrāmaṇerā vadhīkṛtā māraṇābhiprāyato | yugapadekakālaṃ | tat prayoga iti | ghātayituṃ | śrāmaṇerasya prayogeṇa manuṣyaṃ mārayati, te vihārānnāśayitavyāḥ ||

(SŚ 15)
ebhiraṅgairmanuṣyavadho bhavatīti darśayan parāṃścodayannāha | upakrama ityādi | tatra śastrādigrahaṇamupakramaḥ | manuṣyo 'yamiti saṃjñā nṛsaṃjñā | kadācidupakramaṃ karoti nṛsaṃjñānavati na tvasau manuṣya ityāha | nara iti | yadyasau manuṣyo bhavati | kadācidetāni trīṇyaṅgāni saṃbhavanti, na vadhakacetaneti | ato vadhakacetanāvacanaṃ | kadācidupakramaḥ prajñāyate, nṛsaṃjñā vadhakace[ta]nāvān ca naro bhavate, na tu jīvitādvyaparopayatīti | ata āha | jīvitasya kṣayaśceti | tadupakrama ityekamaṅgaṃ, nṛsaṃjñā ceti dvitīyamaṅgaṃ, nara iti tṛtīyamaṅgaṃ, vadhakacetaneti caturthamaṅgaṃ, jīvitakṣayaśceti pañca[mama]ṅgaṃ ityetāni pañcāṅgāni nṛghātane manuṣyavadhe veditavyāni | kecittu mandadhiyaḥ prāhuḥ | nare vadhakacetaneti saptamyantaṃ paṭhanti | teṣāṃ pañcāṅgāni na siddhyanti nare vadhakacetanetyasya padasyaikāṅgatvāt | vinayaśca tairvilopito bhavati | eṣa hi vinaye nirdeśaḥ | prāṇī ca bhavati, prāṇisaṃjñī ca bhavati, vadhakacittañca pratyupasthitaṃ bhavati, upakramañca karoti, jīvitā dravyaparopito bhavati iyatā prāṇātipātī bhavati | atra ca prāṇī bhavati ityādi sarvaḥ prathamānto nirdeśaḥ | tathā kārikāntareṇāpi upakrama iti nṛsaṃjñāvadhakacetaneti prathamāntanirdeśaḥ kṛtaḥ | tasmāt prathamānta eva nirdeśaḥ avagantavyaḥ ||

viṣaśastrādiprayogeṇāpi mārayituṃ na nirdiśyata iti darśayannāha | śrāmaṇeretyādi | yadviṣaśastrādi yatinā prayuktaṃ narasya nāśāya, yadi tenaiva prayogeṇa naro mriyate tadāsau prayoktāsaṃvarī saṃvarādbhraśyate | athānyadīyena tadā neti anenāsyāpattirbhavatīti kathayati ||

(SŚ 16)
avakrītādirityādi | eṣa yatiḥ kenacidavakrīto bhavati | yo bhṛtako vā sa vinayānabhijñatvāt, vinayajño 'pi cānusmaraṇāt | ādiśabdena dveṣābhibhavāt | avakrītādeḥ saṃvaratyāgo [na] bhavatīti matvā naraṃ mārayet | mārayan saṃvarakṣobhalābhī bhavati | nonmattādikaḥ | unmattavikṣiptacetasastu śrāmaṇerā mārayanto na dauḥ śīlyabhājo bhavanti smṛterabhāvāt |

sattvapīḍākriyāyāḥ kāraṇamāha | kāyetyādinā | kaṃ ruṇaddhīti karuṇā | tasyāṃ bhavāḥ kāruṇikāḥ | tathā hi paraduḥkhaduḥkhino buddhā bhagavantaḥ, taiḥ kāruṇikaiḥ maitraṃ kāyakarma maitraṃ vākkarma maitraṃ manaḥ karma prāṇiṣu sattveṣu sarvadā sarvasmin kāle kartavyaṃ yatinā śrāmaṇereṇeti | evamuktamabhihitaṃ | yasmāt yataḥ kāraṇāt | asmādanantaroktāddhetoḥ kimityāha | na sattvān pīḍayediti ślokaḥ | sattvānāṃ pīḍāṃ na kuryāt | kairityāha | dārurajjvayaścarmabandhanaiḥ | tatra dāru kāṣṭhaṃ | rajju guṇamayī kriyā | ayo lohaḥ | carma vadadhrī | teṣāṃ bandhanāni atastaiḥ | analo 'gniḥ | jalañcānalaśca jalānalau | tatra nimajjajjalaṃ jalānalapraveśaḥ | anu tyaktaṃtasya tyajanaṃ anutyāgaḥ | ādiśabdena viṣabhakṣaṇādikaṃ grāhayati | jalānalapraveśaścānutyāgaśceti dvandvaḥ | tasminna niyojayet ||

kṛmigorūpetyādi | kṛmigīrūpādīnāṃ vihiṃsanaṃ mithyājīvaśca karṣaṇe sati yasmāt kāraṇāt bhavati tasmāddhetoḥ karṣaṇa dūrādeva tyajet ||

(SŚ 17)
nāṅkayedomahiṣyādi | gomahiṣyādirnāṅkayitavyo, na cāsya gomahiṣyādernāsikāṃ vedhayet, na ca vetrādinā tāḍayet ||

uddiśyetyādi | śrāmaṇeramuddiśya matsyādikaṃ jīvitādvyaparopayet | vyaparopya tasya māṃsena yadvyañjanaṃ kṛtaṃ tat bhakṣayato yateḥ śrāmaṇerasya yasmānnighṛṇaṃ niṣkṛpaṃ cittaṃ jāyate | ataḥ kadācit uddiśya kṛtaṃ bhakṣayan lobhānalenāpūryamāṇaḥ prāṇivadhamapi kuryāt iti hiṃsā yasya saṃbhāvyate | tasmāduddiśya kṛtaṃ na bhakṣaṇīyamityabhiprāyaḥ ||

taduddiśya kṛtaṃ kathaṃ boddhavyamityāha | jñeyaṃ tu tribhirākārairityādi | abhrāntimatā nirīkṣitena śrutena śaṅkitena vā taduddiśya kṛtaṃ boddhavyaṃ | eṣāmeva padānāṃ lakṣaṇaṃ cikīrṣurāha | īkṣitaṃ yat svayaṃ dṛṣṭamityādi | ātmanāyaddṛṣṭaṃ tadīkṣitamucyate | pratyāyitenāvisaṃvādakena tu yaduktaṃ tat śrutamucyate ||

āśaṅkāmadhikṛtyāha | gṛhābaddhetyādi | gṛhābaddhā ye pakṣimṛgaśūkarādayaḥ teṣāṃ yat pakṣaśṛṅgādi [tad]darśanāt- kimete mṛgapakṣiśūkarādayo mamoddiśya hatā na veti āśaṅkā utpadyate | satyāmāśaṅkāyāṃ dānapatiḥ praṣṭavyaḥ- kimete mamoddiśya hatā na veti | pṛṣṭo dātetyādi | yadidaṃ dānapatiḥ pṛṣṭaḥ sannevaṃ vadet- tvannimittaṃ tavārthe 'mī mṛgādayo hatā iti | evaṃ sati tasmin gṛhe na bhuñjīta | uddiśya kṛtatvāttasyeti bhāvaḥ | virataḥ prāṇināṃ vadhādityanena gṛhītaśikṣasyāyaṃ pratiṣedho netarasyeti darśayati | śyenakādihatā vetyādi | atha sa dānapatirevaṃ (SŚ 18) kuryāt | śyenakādibhiramī hatā mṛtāḥ pakṣiṇo hatāḥ | śāliyavamudbhakṣaṇādvā mṛtāḥ | mātāpitroryajñasya kṛte hatā ityevaṃ sati doṣāsti nāśnatāṃ | evaṃ dātari bruvāṇe sati bhuñjānānāṃ na kaściddoṣo bhavatītyarthaḥ ||

ekaṃ śrīghanamuddiśyetyādi | yadyekaṃ śrāmaṇeramārabhya kṛtaṃ matsyādikaṃ māsaṃ vyañjanaṃ tadanyeṣāmapi śrāmaṇerāṇāṃ yatīnāṃ bhogāya na kalpate | bhikṣubhikṣuṇyopāsakopāsikānāṃ samuddiśya kṛtañca yattadapi paribhogāya na kalpate |

nādeyādi jalamityādi | nadyāmbhavaṃ nādeyaṃ | kiṃ tat? jalaṃ | ādiśabdena tāḍāgādīnāṃ grahaṇaṃ | kīdṛśaṃ? sajantukaṃ saprāṇakaṃ | tat saprāṇakamiti jānannapi na pibet | ko na pibedityāha | vratī | jānanniti vacanāt | ajñāne na doṣaḥ | nātra jantuśabdena matsyādayaḥ parigṛhyante teṣāṃ vivecanakṣamatvāt | kintu jantavo 'tra matāḥ sūkṣmāḥ | jantavaḥ prāṇinaḥ | sūkṣmāḥ adṛśyāḥ | atrāsmin śikṣāpadematāḥ abhipretāḥ | yathā katama ityāha | trasikormiṅkarādayaḥ | urmikara ityevamādaya iti yāvat | atha kimarthamiyaṃ kārikā pṛthak vyavasthāpyate? yāvatā vṛkṣasekagurusnānaṃ kuryānnāśuddhavāriṇā ityasyāṃ kārikāyāṃ saprāṇakena vṛkṣasekādipratiṣedhādayamapi kāryo 'vagata eva | yatra hi sekaḥ pratiṣidhyate sutarāṃ tatra pānapratiṣedhaḥ | satyametadanusaṅgato na mukhyataḥ | na atra mukhākāreṇa māraṇābhiprāyo 'sti pātukāmatāyāḥ prādhānyāt | ataḥ pṛthageva sthāpitā iyaṃ kārikā | kiñcārthotpattivaśānna (SŚ 19) likhitetyadoṣaḥ arthotpattiprabhāvatvādvinayasyeti kṛtvā |

vārītyādi | jalaṃ pāvayituṃ dharmakaraṅkaṃ khallakasahitaṃ sthāpayet | antaśo 'gatyā kośo 'pyadhiṣṭheya iti adhiṣṭhātavya ityarthaḥ | kasya kośo 'dhiṣṭhātavyaḥ ityāha | suvāsasaḥ | satpaṭasyetyarthaḥ | kimartha? vighātaparihārārtha | duṣkṛtaparihāraṃ cetyadhyāhāryaṃ ||

divyanetretyādi | divi bhavaṃ divyaṃ | kiṃ tat? netraṃ cakṣuḥ | divye netre yasya sa divyanetraḥ | andhaḥ cakṣurindriyarahitaḥ | divyanetrasyāndhasya śrāmaṇerasya neṣṭaṃ nābhihitaṃ | kiṃ tanneṣṭamityāha | jalapratyavekṣaṇaṃ | yuktaṃ tāvat andhasya jalapratyavekṣaṇapratiṣedhaḥ sāmarthyābhāvāt | atha divyanetrasya kasmāt pratiṣedhaḥ? sa hi pṛthivyāśritānapi prāṇakān sūkṣmāntarakārūpikān paśyati | ata āha śaṅkāparihārārthadivyacakṣuṣaḥ pratiṣedhaḥ | bhadantaḥ prajñāsiṃha āha- divyacakṣuṣaḥ kumataya ityucyante | tathāvidharūpatvāt | pṛthagjanānāṃ pratyavekṣaṇaṃ na syāt | ataḥ pratiṣedhakaraṇamiti | nanu cāndhasya jalapratyavekṣā sāmarthyābhāvādeva na bhaviṣyati, kimanena pratiṣedhena prayojanaṃ? prasannākṣasya darśanasaṃbhavāt pratiṣedhamiti vinayavido varṇayanti ||

kena tarhi jalaṃ pratyavekṣaṇīyamityāha | hastetyādi | hastasyāṅguṣṭhāgre āvartā sūkṣmarekhā tāṃ draṣṭuṃ śīlaṃ yasya sa [ta]thoktaḥ, tasya na nivāryate | anivāryamiti yāvat | anenaiva timirikāṇāṃ pratiṣe[dha]yanti ||

tena hastapaścimakāvartadarśinā kiyantaṃ kālaṃ pratyavekṣaṇīyamiti āha | (SŚ 20) locanasyetyādi | locanasyākṣṇorvibhramo mā bhūditi kṛtvā ciraṃ bahukālaṃ na [pa]śyet na nirīkṣayet | neti pratiṣedhaḥ | taditi jalaṃ | cirapratiṣedhādeva pratyavekṣaṇī[yaṃ] ityāha | kalpamātraṃ na vai kuryādityādi | māyā paravañcanā | śāṭhayañcittakauṭilyaṃ yena tathābhūtaṃ nāviṣkaroti asphuṭaṃ pratipadya | māyā ca śāṭhayañca māyāśāṭhaye | ataḥ tābhyāṃ samanvitaḥ | saṃkalpamātrakaraṇāya nāsyaivaṃ pratyavekṣaṇīyaṃ | kālaniyamastarhi kartavyaḥ ityāha | yenāntareṇetyādi | yāvat kālāntareṇa ṣaṣṭyabdaḥ ṣaṣṭivarṣaḥ kuñjaro hastī paribhramyate | śakaṭaṃ vā vaṃśapūrṇaṃ yāvatā kālena kālāntareṇa bhramati, sa īdṛgvidhakāla ityarthaḥ | salilekṣaṇe jalapratyavekṣaṇe veditavyaḥ ||

ūrdhvetyādi | ūrdhvā ca adharā ca madhyamā ca ūrdhvādhomadhyamāḥ | tistraḥ kiṃ? bhūmayaḥ | kasya? salilasya | śuddhimāyāti yā yā bhūriti | āsāṃ tisṛṇāmapi bhūmīnāṃ madhye yā yā bhūḥ śuddhimāyāti niḥ prāṇakā bhavati, kāryaṃ kuryāttayā | tayā bhūmyeti saṃbandhaḥ ||

yatra ityādi | yasyāṃ nadyāṃ puṣkariṇyāṃ vā, sthūlā mahāntaḥ prāṇakā karatalahatāḥ hastena hatāḥ santaḥ adhaḥ sthalaṃ yānti tatra jalaṃ grahītavyaṃ, na cet srāvayitavyamiti | cecchabdo yadyarthe | yadi karatalāhatāḥ santaḥ prāṇino 'dho [na] yānti tadā srāvayitavyaṃ tadudakaṃ | kayā? pañcāṅgulikayā | pañcabhiraṅgulībhiḥ ityarthaḥ | bhaveyuru[da]kamityādi | yasminnudake prāṇinaḥ kare lagnā uttiṣṭhanti na tatra pāṇipādāsyavastrādikaṃ kṣālayedyatiriti | āsyaṃ mukhaṃ | sugamatvānna vibhaktaṃ ||

kule ityādi || kule yaḥ śrāmaṇeraḥ bhojanāya nimantritaḥ, tena tatra gatvā praṣṭavyaṃ- kimatra jalaṃ srāvitaṃ na veti | neti cet, saṃjñiko (SŚ 21) vācyaḥ- srāvayeti | yadi pṛṣṭaḥ san dānapatiḥ bravīti na srāvitamiti, tadā saṃjñiko vācyaḥ | saṃjñāsyāstīti saṃjñikaḥ, sa viśiṣṭa eva gṛhyate | yaḥ srāvaṇāya kuśalaḥ sa vaktavyaḥ | kimiti | etatsaprāṇakaṃ jalaṃ srāvayeti | itaro na tu | yaḥ stha[vi]rataraḥ parisrāvayituṃ na jānāti, sa srāvayeti na vaktavyaḥ | yaḥ vakti, tasya duṣkṛtaṃ syāt |

yadi tathaiko 'pi srāvaṇāya kuśalo na bhavati, tadā kiṃ kartavyaṃ ityāha | kintu snāvyamiti vistaraḥ | srāvyāt parisrāvaṇāt | sajantukajalamātmīyapātre muktvā kutaḥ punaretadudakamānītamiti pṛṣṭaṃ yataḥ puṣkariṇyāderānītaṃ tatraiva muñcetsvayamiti | mā bhūdanyatra kṣāraṃ nīramupaghātakṛtaṃ prāṇināmiti tatraivetyāha | saptāhaṃ vetyādi | athavā yatra sapta divasān pānīyamavatiṣṭhati tatra tat saprāṇakamudakaṃ moktavyaṃ | athavā vihāre kaṭāhādau tatra sthāpayet | kīdṛgvidha ityāha | tadaśuṣyati | tat pānīyaṃ tatra śoṣaṃ nopaiti | tasminnaśuṣyati kaṭāhādau sthāpayet | kecittadaśuṣyati tatra pānīyāśoṣaṇaṃ nimittamiti nimittasaptamīṃ varṇayanti | pravṛṣṭetyādi | athavā sutarāṃ deve vṛṣṭe | kīdṛśe? svacchanīraughavāhini | svacchamanāvilaṃ, nīraughaṃ jalaughaṃ voḍhuṃ śīlaṃ yasyeti bhāvaḥ | svacchanīraughavāhī | tasminnīdṛgvidhe vṛṣṭe sati tāni [sa]prāṇakāni jalāni nimnagānāṃ patiṃ mahāsamudrapātaṅgacchateti uktvā visarjayet | athaitat sarva na bhavati | dūragatodakamudakapānamasti | tadā tat saprāṇakaṃ jalaṃ kiṃ kartavyamityāha | sudīrghaityādi | dīrghātipramāṇatalikādhobhāgaḥ | vaktraṃ mukhaṃ dīrghaṃ yasyā rajjudvayena ca (SŚ 22) baddhā ghaṭikā sā evamucyate | tayā dūragatādhvagena udake kūpe adhastāttadudakaṃ muñcet ||

adhvagena kathaṃ jale pratipattavyaṃ ityāha | ghaṭikātritayamiti | tisro ghaṭikāḥ pratyavekṣya mārgageṇa udapānataḥ kūpāt jalaṃ pātavyaṃ | kiṃ pariśuddhāsvapi? netyāha | kiṃ tarhi sarvāstāḥ pariśuddhāścet peyaṃ? cecchabdo yadyarthe | yadi tāstisro ghaṭikāḥ pariśuddhā bhavanti, pratyavekṣamāṇāstadānena mārgageṇa pātavyaṃ | tat srāvyamanyatheti | kathamanyathā? yadi tāstisro ghaṭikā na śudhyanti, tadā sajantukaṃ jalaṃ srāvayitavyamiti | ghaṭikātritayaṃ vīkṣyeti | ghaṭikā tritayasthamudakaṃ | stokastokena salilaṃ pratyavekṣyetyeke | sakṛdeka eva | ekaikasyāḥ stokastokaṃ pratyavekṣyetyapare | etadeva tu yujyate, yatopyūrdhvādhomadhyamāstisraḥ salilasyāpi bhūmayaḥ iti kārikāyāṃ stokaṃ pratyavekṣitavyamiti yuktaṃ na ca tatra sarvaṃ śikṣāpadañcedaṃ, nādeyādi jalaṃ jānanniti vacanāt | tasmāt ghaṭikāpi stokameva pratyavekṣitumanujñāyate | tadvadihāpi | atha tamaśakyatvāt tatra stokaṃ | iha tu śakyatvāt sarvamiti | evaṃ tarhyaśakyatvāt tatrāpratyavekṣaṇamevāstu | athāśakyaṃ stokena cittaviśuddhirvidhīyate, śakye 'pi kasmānnaivaṃ sarvaṃ śikṣāpadaṃ cedaṃ, nādeyādijalaṃ jānanniti vacanāt | tasmāt pṛṣṭe 'pi stokameva pratyavekṣaṇīyaṃ | ghaṭipañcaghaṭikāṃ vīkṣyeti kecit paṭhanti | teṣāmanyārthatvāt pāṭho nābhyupeyaḥ | amutra tu vidhiḥ |

adhvagavyatirekeṇa ghaṭikāstu ṣaṭ pañca vā |

evaṃ tarhyātmanaḥ saprāṇakajalapānapratiṣedhāt pareṣāñca dānapratiṣedhāt vṛkṣādīnāmacetanānāṃ saprāṇakenodakena sekānnadānaṃ na nirudhyate | bāhyaparibhogyāścet tadāśaṅkāṃ nivṛtyarthamāha | vṛkṣasekamityādi | apariśuddhena jalena vṛkṣaseko na dātavyaḥ | (SŚ 24) upādhyāyācāryāṇāmapi snānaṃ na kāryamiti anena bāhyabhogo nivāritaḥ ||

kiṃ punarjalameva saprāṇakamokṛtaṃ dātraṃ vakraṃ na kuryāt, āhosvidanyadapi? anyadapītyāha | mastukāñjika iti vistaraḥ | mastuśabdena dadhimastūcyate | kāñjiko dhānyāmburityeko 'rthaḥ | sauvīraṃ bahubhirauṣadhidravyaiḥ kriyate ambuviśeṣaiḥ | maṇḍo 'nnavikāraḥ | daṇḍāhataṃ mathitaṃ | tadevamādikaṃ saprāṇakaṃ yatirna pibet, na parasmai dadyāt, bhuvi pṛthivyāṃ na tyajet |

samatkuṇa ityādi | saha matkuṇairvattate yacchayanaṃ tadātape na śoṣa yat | hime kardame śotavāriṇi uṣṇavāriṇi vā [na] kṣipet | anena sattvapīḍākaraṇamātramapi pratiṣedhayati ||

navakarmetyādi | caityārāmavihārādīnāṃ navakarma sajantukenodakena na yatiḥ kuryāt | sāmarthyāt srāvayitvā kāryamityuktaṃ bhavati | srāvayitvā tadudakaṃ dināntaṃ na sakalaṃ divasaṃ trikoṇakaṃ khallakaṃ dhāryaṃ dhārayitavyamityarthaḥ | kintu kālena kālaṃ parisrāvaṇaṃ moktavyaṃ prāṇakānāṃ pīḍāparihārārthaṃ duṣkṛtaparihārārthañceti ||

atha pareṇa srāvayatā kathaṃ pratipattavyamityāha | bhṛtakaṃ śikṣayedevamityādi | yatiḥ karmakaramevaṃ śikṣayet | kimiti | vadhāna tvaṃ trikoṇakamiti | bhṛtaka, khallakaṃ bandha, kūpādevamudakamutkṣipya evaṃ srāvaya, evaṃ vimocaya khallakamiti ||

yadi srāvyamāṇamapi tadudakaṃ saprāṇakaṃ bhavati, tadā kiṃ kartavyamityāha | (SŚ 25) trikoṇasaptakenetyādi | yadyekapuṭakhallakena srāvyamāṇaṃ tadudakaṃ na śudhyati, tadā yāvatsaptapuṭake[na] khallakena srāvyaṃ tadambhaḥ pānīyaṃ | athaivamapi na śudhyati, tadā pratikūpikā kāryā | yadi sā na śudhyeta, tadā navakarma tyaktvā deśāntaraṃ gantavya | tasmāt pradeśādanyasmin pradeśe gantavyamiti yāvat |

kadā tarhi navakarma kārayitavyamityāha | abhūtvā saṃbhavantīti vistaraḥ | ete hi kuṇarūpiṇaḥ prāṇakāḥ abhūtvā saṃbhavanti, bhūtvā ca paścādvinaśyanti | yadā tāvadamī prāṇakā bhūtvā bhavāntaraṃ janmāntaraṃ yānti, tadā navakarma kārayitavyaṃ | kena? yathokta vidhikāriṇā | yathoktamācāravidhiṃ kartuṃ śīlamasyeti yathoktavidhikārī | teneti saṃbandhaḥ ||

satpaṭetyādi | śobhanaḥ paṭaḥ satpaṭaḥ | tenābaddhaṃ yanmañcapīṭhasaṃsthānaṃ dhāraṇapātrakaṃ, tasmāt | kīdṛśāt? ucchīdañcaturāṅgulāt | ucchīdanti uchrayeṇa catvāryaṅgulāni yasya mañcādeḥ tasmāt nadyādau salilaṃ grahītavyaṃ | ālokya pratyavekṣya | navakarmaṇi navakarmanimittaṃ | etaduktaṃ bhavati- nadītaḍāgādiṣu mañcapīṭhasaṃsthānaṃ dhāraṇapātraṃ ghanena paṭenāveṣṭaya madhye tu upalādikaṃ datvā udake nimajya caturāṅgulamucchritaṃ kṛtvā tadantargatamudakaṃ pratyavekṣya jalakāryaṃ kāryamiti ||

chidrakarṇadvayetyādi | chidrite kāṣṭhamaye karṇadvaye āsaktaṃ baddhaṃ yatsūtraṃ, tacchidrakarṇadvayāsaktasūtraṃ | tena baddhaṃ dvidaṇḍake daṇḍakadvaye yaddhāraṇapātrakaṃ tattathoktaṃ | (SŚ 26) tadīdṛgvidhaṃ dhāraṇapātrakaṃ trikoṇakasya khallakasya bahirheṣṭhaṃ dadhyāt ||

kṛpāparītacitteneti vistaraḥ | kṛpayā karuṇayā parītaḥ samantāt idaṃ gṛhīta cittaṃ yasya yateḥ sa tathoktaḥ | tena kṛpāvatā śrīghanena svādu mṛṣṭaṃ vāri pānīyaṃ sajantukaṃ saprāṇakaṃ kṣārembhasi kṣārīye jale na moktavyaṃ notsraṣṭavyaṃ | yastu niṣkṛpo muñcati tasya duṣkṛtaṃ bhavati | anāpatmṛṣṭasaṃjñinaḥ | yastu kṣārīye jale mṛṣṭasaṃjñī mṛṣṭābhiprāyastasya anāpat | na āpadanāpat | duṣkṛtaṃ na bhavatītyarthaḥ ||

tatra sakalena śarīreṇetyārabhya yāvadavakrītādirityetaiḥ kārikāntarairduṣkṛta pūrvakaḥ saṃvaratyāga uktaḥ | śeṣaistu duṣkṛtānyudāhṛtāni |

nṛkāyaṃ cetanopetamatrāste vadhacetanaḥ |
ghātakavadhavijñānaḥ kathaṃ nojjhati saṃvaraḥ ||

uktāḥ ṣoḍaśāṣṭau pariṣkārāḥ | kiyatpramāṇa[ma]sya punaḥ dravyasyāpaharaṇātsaṃvaratyāgo bhavatītyāha | kārṣāpaṇacaturbhāgamiti vistaraḥ | kārṣāpaṇaśabdenātra ekonnaviṃśatiḥ kapardakapaṇāḥ parigṛhyante | tasya yaścaturtho bhāgaḥ kākinīnyūnāḥ pañca māṣakāḥ, tān haran | athavā tadarghaṃ tanmūlyaṃ dhanaṃ śāṭakādi[s]teyacittaḥ cauryābhiprāyaḥ śrāmaṇeraḥ haran sthānāt cyāvayan svīkurvan anyairyatibhirlaghu (SŚ 29) śīghraṃ nāśanīyo, gṛhītvā nirdvārayitavya ityarthaḥ ||

uktaṃ dravyasya pramāṇaṃ | kutaḥ punaḥ sthānāttaddravyamapaharannaśrāmaṇero bhavatītyāha | yadi vāṭeti vistaraḥ | caturvāṭāntarāvasthite hastini hriyamāṇe yadi tatra vṛhaddvārā vāṭā bhavanti, tadā caturbhiḥ pādaiścyute gaje ayatiḥ bhavati | atha saṃvṛtā dvārā, tadā niṣkrānte sati dvipahṛtsyāt | dvābhyāṃ pibatīti dvipo hastī | taṃ haratīti dvipahṛt, hasticauro bhavedityarthaḥ | evamanayā kārikayā sthānadvayaṃ pratipādita vistīrṇadvāre pādau sthānamityekaṃ, saṃvṛtadvāre vāṭeti dvitīyaṃ ||

gulphetyādi | gulphaṃ pādasya parva | tatrābaddhaṃ yadikṣudaṇḍādi, tasmin | kīdṛgvidhe? dūrākṛṣṭe dūranīte | tadutkṣipte uddhṛte | kutaḥ? mahītalāt pṛthivītaḥ | kiṃ saṃvarabhaṅgaḥ, saṃvaratyāgo bhavatīti yāvat | pañjarād gajavadvije iti | yathā vṛhaddvāravāṭāyāṃ gajasya pādacyutimātreṇa saṃvaratyāga uktaḥ svalpadvārāyāñca niṣkrānte sati, evaṃ pañjare 'pi vṛhaddvāre pādacyutimātreṇa svalpadvāre niṣkrānte pakṣiṇi sati yatiḥ dvijahṛtsyāditi | asyāñca kārikāyāṃ sthānacatuṣṭayaṃ nirdiṣṭaṃ | gulphopanibandhanaṃ sthānaṃ, vṛhaddvāre pañjare pādau sthānaṃ, svalpadvāre pañjaraḥ, ubhayāpaharaṇe saṃyogasthānaṃ ||

deśādityādi | kaścidyatirito deśādanyaddeśāntaraṃ gacchati, saṃdeśaṃ kasyacinnayati | tatra yadyekasmādaṅgādanyasminnaṅge śirasi vā tatsaṃdeśadraviṇaṃ (SŚ 30) dravyaṃ sañcārayet stainyacittena saṃvaradhūtaṃ samāpnute, ayatirbhavatītyarthaḥ | tadevamanayā kārikayā śarīrāṅgāni sthānamuktaṃ ||

mṛto 'sau yasyetyādi | yasmin pudgalāyaṇādhitame dravyamamukena pudgalenāsau mṛta ityevaṃ manyatānyasmādadhvagāt brahmacāriṇaḥ sakāśācchratvā sīmānte sthātuṃ śīlaṃ yasya tasmai bhāgamadatvā gṛhṇan yatirayatirbhavet, aśrāmaṇero bhavatīti yāvat | atrāpi śarīrāṅgameva sthānaṃ ||

atha mṛtasya śrāmaṇerasya taddravyaṃ tatkasya prāpnotītyāha | yadvittamityādi || mṛtasya yaterathavārhataḥ parinirvṛtasya yaddravyaṃ tatsarvamupādhyāyasya prāpnotītyevaṃ jagaumuniḥ, bhagavānāhetyarthaḥ |

harturityādi | ete hastino vistīrṇapradeśe caranti | tattu kaścidvratī hastinaṃ haret | tatra harturiṣṭāmabhipretāṃ diśaṃ yadi hastī yāyāt, tasmin harturneturabhipretāṃ diśaṃ yāte hastini | vratinaśca svakaṃ ruddhāṃ satyāṃ | kariṇaṃ hastinaṃ pātīti karipo hastya'varohakaḥ | tasmin karipe | kīdṛgvidhe? hṛtasaṃjñini | hṛto hastī mameti saṃjñā yasya tasmin hṛtasaṃjñini karipe sati asau hartā vratī cauraḥ syādaśrāmaṇero bhavatīti | anayā kārikayā pādacatuṣṭayaṃ (SŚ 31) sthānaṃ | anabhimatā dik, upacāraḥ, paripanthi cittaṃ ceti catvāri sthānāni nirdiṣṭāni ||

pūjācīvaretyādi | pūjārtha cīvaramālā pūjācīvaramālā | tasyā antadvayaṃ, tasya mocanaṃ muktirapanayanaṃ | tayā antadvayaṃ muktvā cīvaramālāyāḥ | avanau pṛthivyāṃ yā cyutiḥ pātaḥ asyāḥ cyutau satyāṃ bhraśyate | kutaḥ? saṃvarāt | saṃvarīti śeṣaḥ | bodhivṛkṣādapi aṃśukaṃ vastraṃ gṛhṇan ayatirbhavati | anena ślokena sthānatrayaṃ pratipāditaṃ | ubhayānta[yo]rbandhaḥ, manasā paraparigraho, vastraṃ ceti | tatra kīlakabaddhāyāṃ cīvaramālāyāṃ ubhayāntasthānaṃ | yadā anyonyāparijñānādubhau corayataścīvaramālāyā antadvayaṃ muñcatastadā parasparaparigrahaḥ sthānaṃ | khaṇḍacchede tu tadeva vastraṃ sthānaṃ ||

kṣiptetyādi || kṣiptāni prakīrṇāni mauktikahārādīni yasmin mahākule tadevamucyate | tatra gato yatiḥ sahāye jāte sati tasyaiva sahāyasya hastāyāṃ prasevikāyāṃ tataḥ kulāt prakīrṇamauktikahārādi gṛhītvā nyasati | tannyastaṃ tenaiva sahāyena hārayan kiṃ saṃvaracyutiriti vakṣyate | jaṭālenetyādi | athavā jaṭālena lomaśena śunā kurkureṇa tanmahākulāt taṃ mauktikahārādikaṃ hārayan upalāpya vatsaṃ tṛṇādinā gokāyapotakaṃ haran kiṃ saṃvaracyutiḥ? kiṃ punaḥ (SŚ 32) pādacyutimātreṇaiva saṃvaratyāgo bhavati? netyāha | upacārastaistyaktaścet saṃvaracyutiḥ | yadi taiḥ sahāyakurkuravatsairupacārastyakto bhavet, tadā yateḥ saṃvaratyāgo bhavati | upacāravyatikramaścātra darśanaśravaṇavyatikramaḥ ||

rātrāvityādi | yatiḥ kaścinniśi gośakaṭāśvādīnbadhnāti | etān ete gāvo hariṣyantīti atra pūrvavadādiśet, yaduta cyutasaṃvaro bhavatīti | tadevamādibhistisṛbhiḥ kārikābhirupacāraścittaṃ ca śakaṭādiṣu tatsaṃjñitvaṃ mamatvalābhaśca sthānamuktaṃ ||

ṛjuka ityādi | eṣa kaścidyatiḥ hāramapaharati | tatra yadi praguṇaḥ kīlako bhavati, kaṭhinañca bandhanaṃ bhavati, tadā utkṣipyamāṇameva [ba]ndhanaṃ kīlakasthānaṃ muñcatīti niranubandhasthānāccyāvitamityāha | utkṣepaṇe ca cauraḥ syāditi | atha kuṭilaḥ kīlako bhavatīti bandhanañca śithilaṃ bhavati, na tāvat aśrāmaṇero bhavati | vakratvena kīlakasya śithilatvena bandhasya kīlakasthānānatikramaṃ darśayati | tataśca niranubandhasthānāt cyāvitamiti nāśrāmaṇeraḥ | yadā tu sarveṇa sarvaṃ bandhanamuktaṃ bhavati, tadā ayatirbhavati ||

chidrayitvetyādi | ghaṭasya chidraṃ kṛtvā sarpirghṛtaṃ, kṣaudraṃ madhu, tailaṃ tilatailādi, jalaṃ nādeyādi haran yatiryadi pūrārpyataṅgataṃ bhavet, dhārā ca vicchinnā bhavettadā saṃvarakṣobhamāpnute, ayatirbhavatītyarthaḥ | avicchinnāyāṃ tu dhārāyāṃ yadi śrāmaṇyāpekṣayā nivartate, tadā na bhavatīti vinayavido varṇayanti |

vaṇṭayamāṇa ityādi | dvayorbhrātroḥ gṛhe vibhajyamāne, labdhumicchā lipsālābhābhilāṣaḥ, tayā lipsayā ekasya bhrāturbhāgāt yadi bālamātramapi bhūmi haret tadā kṣatasaṃvarī bhavati | tadatrāśayaḥ sthānamuktaṃ |

atha kiṃ cauragṛhītaṃ pātrādi tyaktāśayasya śanaiḥ punargṛhītuṃ labhyate? netyāha taskaretyādi | taskareṇa caureṇa upāttaṃ gṛhītaṃ yatpātrādi taṃ nirāśaḥ san yatiḥ punarbhūyaḥ ādadat gṛhṇan saṃvarād bhraśyata iti | saṃvaraṇaṃ savaraḥ | akuśalaśrotasa āvaraṇaṃ | tato hīyate | itarastu anyaktāśaḥ punargṛhṇan nāpadaṃ prāpnoti, ayatirnabhavatītyarthaḥ | kiṃ punastattaskaropāttaṃ pātrādi gopālādidattaṃ gṛhītuṃ labhyate? temityāha | mitretyādi | yadi taccauragṛhītaṃ pātraṃ mitrabhāvena labdhaṃ bhavet mahatā vā kārpaṇyena gopālādibhirvā dattaṃ syāt, tadā ādadānasya yaternāpattiriṣyate, duṣkṛtamapi na bhavatītyarthaḥ ||

yadi caurāḥ pātracīvaraṃ gṛhītvā na dadate, tadā kathaṃ pratipattavyamityāha | bhayetyādi | pātrasya cīvarasya ca muktaye teṣāṃ caurāṇāṃ bhayopadarśanaṃ kārya | yatra tu rājani teṣāṃ malimlucāṃ bandhanādikaṃ bhavati, tatra gatvā na vaktavya mebhiścauraiḥ vayaṃ muṣitā iti ||

niṣkāsayasītyādi | etau yatī kriyākāraṃ kurvāṇāvanyonyaṃ prayājayataḥ | upādhyāyācāryāṇāṃ yatpātracīvaraṃ tvaṃ niṣkāsayasi tadāvayostava ca mama ca | tadityevamuktvā yadyeko 'pi yatistatpātracīvaramapaharet, tadā dvāvapi tau vratinau taskarau bhavataḥ | svadravyetyādi | etau yatī svadravyaṃ stainyacittenāpaharataḥ | tatra ubhayabhāgādekasya yateḥ bhāgārdhena ekopya'yatirbhavati, dvitīyopītarapudgalaniṣkāsitārdheneti ||

atha yadā bahavaḥ śrāmaṇerāḥ saṃbhūya kākinīnyūnān pañca māṣakānapahareyustadā kiṃ te saṃvariṇo bhavantyuta neti? asaṃvariṇa eva bhavantyekābhiprāyatvāt (SŚ 34) sarve dvāri sthitacellakavat | dāsyāma ityādi | ete yataya ekābhiprāyā mahallakena saha kriyākāraṃ kurvata | mahallaka, samaṃ tava bhāgaṃ dāsyāmaḥ, kevalaṃ dvāre tiṣṭha vaya caurikāṃ kariṣyāma iti | evaṃ pratijānanāsya | uktaṃ karotītyuktakṛt | tasyoktakṛto mahallakasya tulyāpattiḥ | kaiḥ sahetyāha | cauracellakaṃḥ | sāpi cauro bhavedityarthaḥ ||

uṣitvetyādi | kaścidāgantuko yatiḥ uṣitvā, nivāsaṃ kalpayitvā pātracīvaraṃ vismṛtya gacchati | tasminnāgantuke gate āgatyāgatya yo yatiḥ tatpātracīvara gāpayetsa caurā bhavati | evamāvāsikāḥ sarvetyādi | amunānantaroktena prayogeṇa yadi sarve āvāsikāstadāgantukasya pātramapa[ha]reyustadā sava kṣatasaṃvarā bhavanti | yasya tu tatpātracīvaraṃ, sa yadi saṃsmṛtya nayati na kilviṣī | kilviṣamucyate pāpaṃ | tadasyāstī[ti] kilviṣo | na kilviṣī anāpattikaḥ syāditi yāvat |

anyasyetyādi | yaḥ śrāmaṇeraḥ steyacittenānyasya yateḥ pātramanyena yatinā ānāyayati, sa doṣavān bhavati, ayatirbhavatītyarthaḥ | yastvānetā tasyaivaṃvidhā buddhiretatpātraṃ asyaivānāyayituryaterityevaṃ sati na doṣo, [a]yaṃ na doṣabhāg bhavati stainyacittābhāvāt | ye tu sahānīya yatirvratīti paṭhanti, teṣāṃ vinā sahaśabdena (SŚ 35) tṛtīyaryava sahārthasya dyātitatvāt sahaśabdagrahaṇamatiricyate | na vā sahārtha iyaṃ tṛtīyā kartari vighānāt | yattadośca saṃbandhitvāt tacchabdaprayogo hīyate | tasmādya anī[ya] yatirvratītyeva pāṭhaḥ |

yāvata pūjetyādi | yāvat munerbuddhasya bhagavataḥ pūjā kriyate tāvat saṃghasyāpi pūjāsatkāraḥ pravartate ityevaṃ matvā yaḥ sāṃghikaṃ lābhaṃ stainyacittena stūpāya dadāti, staupikaṃ vā lābhaṃ saṃghāya dadāti sa kṣatasaṃvaro bhavatyayatirbhavatītyarthaḥ | nanu ca yāḥ kāścitsaṃpadaḥ sarvāstā bhagavantamāgamyati | yonisomanasikāreṇa stainyacittāsaṃbhavaḥ | naitadasti | etadeva hi vidāraṇaṃ stainyacittasyotthāpakaṃ yathā kāruṇyena salilamapaharata iti | kutastasyādattādānaṃ siddhyate?

kiṃ punaḥ sāṃghikātkośāt stūpasyoddhārakaṃ gṛhītuṃ labhyate? nemityāha | likhitveti vistaraḥ | savārikairvā pakṣavārike māsavārāvārikairvā sāṃghikātkośāt likhitvoddhārakaṃ grahītavyaṃ | mithaḥ parasparaṃ | stūpāt saṃghasya grahītavyaṃ | saṃghācca stūpasyetyarthaḥ | taiśca vārikaiḥ karmādānaparisamāptau vaktavyaṃ- iyat hiraṇyaṃ suvarṇādi staupikāt kāśādagṛhītaṃ sāṃghikācca iyaditi | noktakṛto 'nyatheti | kathamanyathā? yadi vinā likhitvoddhārakaṃ gṛhṇanti, māsaniṣkāse ca na vadanti, tadā noktakṛto bhavanti | uktaṃ na kurvantīti noktakṛto, duṣkṛte prāpnuvantītyarthaḥ ||

svāṃśetyādi | tatrāṃśo bhāgo 'vayava ityanarthāntaraṃ | svakīryo 'śaḥ svāṃśaḥ | tena mukto yaḥ parakīryo 'śaḥ taṃ haratīti svāṃśamuktaharaḥ, ātmabhāgavyatiriktabhāgahara ityarthaḥ | etau yatī ekatra kule lābhaṃ labhete | tayordvayormadhye yaḥ parabhāgaharaḥ śrāmaṇeraḥ sa cauro bhavati | viśvāsaṃ tu punardāsyāmīti ca kṛtvā gṛhṇan nāpadaṃ prāpnoti | labhase tvamityādi | etau yatī kriyākāra kurvāte | yaṃ tvaṃ lābhaṃ labhase ahañca yaṃ lābha labhe tadāvayostava ca mama ca vaditvaivaṃ kriyākāraṃ kṛtvā samutpanne lābhe sati yastaṃ kriyākāraṃ bhinati tatordhena taskaro bhavati, dvitīyasya yaterbhāgeṇāśrāmaṇero bhavatītyarthaḥ ||

dakṣiṇādeśanepyevamityādi | yathā dvayoḥ kulopakayorekasya kriyākāraṃ bhindataḥ saṃvaracyutiruktā, eva dakṣiṇādeśane 'pi draṣṭavya | dakṣiṇādeśanañca dānagāthāpāṭhaḥ | dvayośca pāṃśukūlikayormadhye pāṃśukūle samutpanne sati yaḥ kriyākāraṃ bhinatti sa cyutasaṃvaro bhavati ||

prāṅnirdiṣṭaḥ sāṃghiko lābhaḥ stūpāya na dātavyaḥ staupikaśca saṃghāyeti | anyasmai sutarāṃ dātuṃ na labhyata ityabhiniveśatyājanārthaṃ vidhiṃ darśayannāha | upakārītyādi | upakartu śīlaṃ yeṣāṃ te upakāriṇo, viparyayādanupakāriṇaḥ | tebhyaḥ sāṃghikamannapānādi dātavyaṃ | ke punaste ityāha | vihārasvāmi rājādayaḥ upakāriṇaḥ, caurādayo 'nupakāriṇa iti yathākramaṃ ubhau boddhavyo ||

śrīghanebhyopītyādi | yadi cellakāḥ sāṃghike vihāre ālepanaṃ saṃmārja[nā]dikaṃ kurvanti tadā tebhyaḥ saṃghataḥ pādāsyaṅsa pūrvāhṇikādi dātavyamanyathā neti | apiśabdena na kevalamupakāryapakāriṇo jñātavyāḥ śrīghanebhyo 'pyevaṃvidhakarmakāribhya iti (SŚ 37) darśayati | nanu ca śrāmaṇerasya pravraji[ta]tvādvināpi vihāralepanādikaraṇena sāṃghikānnapānaparibhogo labhyata eva | tatkimarthamucyate śrīghanebhyo 'pīti | idameva āśaṃvayamāne kṛte tricīvareṇa vibhūṣitasya hi bhikṣoḥ sāṃghikānnapānaparibhogo 'nujñāto bhagavatā sūtre, na śrāmaṇarasya ato vighā[nā]ntaramāha bhagavān- śrīghanebhyo 'pīti | na vā vinaye tarko 'vatārayitavyaḥ yatkiñcidetaditi ||

sīmāntasthāyina ityādi | sīmāntarāle syātuṃ śolaṃ yasya yatestasmai bhikṣusahitāya bhikṣūṇāyupasyātakāriṇe taṇḍulādikaṃ datvā dārakaprasyavyājena taṇḍulādikaṃ yatirgṛhṇīyāt | kecitugṛhṇāyāttaṇḍulādi netyante nakāraṃ paṭhanti | sīmāntasthāyine adatveti vātrākāraḥ praśliṣṭāstāti matvaivaṃ vyāvakṣate | sīmāntapātine yataye taṇḍulādikamadatvā dārakaprasthavyapadeśena taṇḍulādi na grāhyamiti tadatrobhayasmin pāṭhe na doṣaḥ ||

atyaktāśa ityādi | atyaktā pātrādi pratyāśā yena sa tathoktaḥ | svapātracīvaraṃ naṣṭamiti | na kenacidapahṛtaṃ kintu kathañcit pramādācchoritaṃ | taddṛṣṭvāyatirutpādayedgṛhṇoyāt | matvaivamiti | kathamevaṃ matvā? atyaktāśasya matvā naṣṭaṃ pātracīvaraṃ gṛhītuṃ labhyate, netarasya | evaṃ gṛddho yatiḥ kīdṛśa ityāha naṣṭapātrādiḥ | naṣṭāni pātrādīni yasya sa evamucyate | āśāṃ naiva tyajediti | (SŚ 38) yatraiva naṣṭapātrādi lapsye, tatraiva grahīṣyāmītyevaṃ prajño bhavedityarthaḥ | yastu nirāśībhūtaḥ pātra cīvaraṃ naṣṭaṃ gṛhṇāti, tasya duṣkṛtaṃ bhavati, na saṃvaratyāgo | na hi tena caurāt praticaurikā kṛtānapahṛtatvāddravyasya |

lābhārthaṃ kriyākāraprasaṃgenoddeśādikriyākārātikrame 'pi duṣkṛtaṃ darśayitumāha | svādhyāyetyādi | ete śrāmaṇerā saṃghaśīlakaṃ kṛtvā kriyākāraṃ kurvanti | svādhyāyamadhyayanamuddeśaṃ vā kariṣyāma ityevaṃ kriyākāraṃ kṛtvā ye kriyākāraṃ na pratipālayanti, te jinoditalaṃghinaḥ | jinena buddhena bhagavatā ya uditaḥ ukto vinayastaṃ laṃghituṃ śīlaṃ yeṣāṃ te jinoditalaṃghino, duṣkṛtaṃ prāpnuvantītyarthaḥ | tadanena sarvatraivaṃ dhārmika kriyākārātikrame duṣkṛtaṃ bhavatītyākhyātaṃ bhavati ||

patāketyādi | yatinā dhvajāpatākādilakṣaṇaḥ stūpato na grahītavyaḥ | nirgranthastūpagrahaṇaṃ copalakṣaṇārthaṃ | tena paṇḍarabhikṣustūpāderapi gṛhṇataḥ syādeva duṣkṛtaṃ, na tu saṃvaratyāgaḥ svāmino 'bhāvāt | yatra tu stūpe devalakaḥ āste tasmādgṛhṇataḥ syādeva saṃvaratyāgaḥ | anilena vātena tu uddhṛtaṃ kaṃpitaṃ pātitaṃ ca yatpatākādi tatpāṃśukalamiti kṛtvā gahītavyaṃ ||

śulkakṛtyamityādi | śulkaśabdena rājakulapratyāyotpattisthānamucyate | yasya ghaṭṭa iti prākṛtajanapratītiḥ | tatra kṛtya prayojanaṃ | kintu tasmāt sthānāducitadānāpradānārtha yatparadravyanayanaṃ tadarthaṃ pareṣāṃ dravyaṃ yatiḥ svayaṃ na nayet, nāpi pareṇa nāyayet | śulkaṃ yatpradānaṃ tasya ca mokṣārthamupāyaṃ nopadiśet- amunā mārgeṇa gaccha, tataste śulkapradānaṃ na bhavati | ratnaṃ datvetyādi | kaścicchaṭhakajātīyo vaṇi[ja]kaḥ śulkapradānamuktaye śulkātprāgyatibhyo yathāvṛddhikayā ratnaṃ datvā paścāt (SŚ 39) śulkakarayayativāhyakṛtākaṇḍikayā tadratnaṃ mārgayatoti ca | yatayaḥ prāktasyābhiprāyaṃ na jānantīti bāddhavyaṃ, anyathā hi saṃvaratyāgaḥ syāt | tasmin aparijñāte tairyatibhiḥ- evaṃ nāma tvaṃ mohapuruṣa, asmākaṃ visaṃvādayasītyevaṃ suṣṭhuparibhāṣya tadratnaṃ tasyaiva vaṇijā dātavyaṃ | nāsti śulkamityādi | munerbuddhasya bhagavataḥ śulkaṃ nāsti | vratamasti yeṣāṃ te vratinaḥ | paribhogāyedaṃ pāribhogikaṃ | tasmin pāribhogike dravye muneriva vratināṃ śulka nāsti | anyatrāstītyuktaṃ bhavati | ata evāha | krayavikrayakṛddadyāditi | krayavikrayaṃ karotīti krayavikrayakṛdyatiḥ śulkaṃ prayacchet |

varṣāvāsiketyādi | yatra grāme nagare vā yaḥ śrāmaṇero varṣāmupagataḥ, tasya tatra varṣāvāsikalābho dātavyaḥ | jīvitasya brahmacaryasya ca yayoḥ śrāmaṇerayornāśaḥ tayorapi varṣāvāsikalābhā dātavyaḥ | tenaitaduktaṃ bhavati- jīvitāntarāyabhayabhītaṃ brahmacaryāntarāyabhayabhītaṃ muktvā anyeṣāmavarṣoṣitānāṃ varṣāvāsikalābho na dātavyaḥ | prākprāgupagatairityādi | ye śrāmaṇerāḥ prāk śrāvaṇamāsasya pratipadi varṣāmupagatāstaiḥ prāgevāśvinamāsasya pratipadamārabhya varṣāvāsikayācanā kartavyā | ye tu paścāt bhādrapadamāsasya pratipadi varṣāmupagatāstaiḥ paścādeva kārtikamāse | yadi sarvaḥ saṃvaḥ prayamāyāmupagacchati tadā saṃghavaśena paścādupagatairapi yugapadeva varṣāvāsikalābho yācanīyaḥ ||

punargṛhṇātītyādi | tatra vastu pūrṇaviśavaṣatvaṃ | vākpravyāhāro viśiṣṭārthadyotakaḥ | karma kriyā karmeti kṛtvā, kriyate vā aneneti | karmaśabdenopasaṃpatkarmaivābhidhīyate | tena hi karmaṇā sa pudgalo bhikṣuḥ kriyate | vastu karma ca vastukarmaṇo, (SŚ 40) tayorjugupsā nindā, tayā yaḥ pudgalo bhikṣubhāvaṃ parityajya punardīkṣāṃ pravrajyāṃ gṛhṇāti, tasmai api yataye varṣoṣitaiḥ saha samo lābho dātavyaḥ | anye tvanyathā vyācakṣante | triśaraṇayācanāmārabhya yāvata kāṣāyaparidhānamidaṃ vastu, buddhaṃ bhagavantaṃ pravrajitamanupravrajāmīti idaṃ karma viśiṣṭārthadyotakatvātkriyākarmeti kṛtvā | vastu ca karma ca vastukarmaṇī, tayorjugupsā nindā, tayā yaḥ pudgalaḥ śrāmaṇerabhāvaṃ parityajya punardīkṣāṃ pravrajyāṃ gṛhṇāti, tasmai api yataye varṣoṣitaiḥ saha samo lābho dātavyaḥ | ka evamāhetyato bravīti ityāha sarvavit, bhagavānāhetyarthaḥ ||

avarṣoṣitetyādi | tatra traimāsānadhiṣṭhānādavarṣoṣitaḥ | vibhrānto yaḥ pravrajyāpapravrajitaḥ | kutsitā dṛṣṭiryasyeti kudṛṣṭiḥ, mithyādṛṣṭika ityarthaḥ | mithyādṛṣṭiśca nāstikapravṛttiḥ- nāsti mātā, nāsti pitā, nāsti sukṛtaduṣkṛtānāṃ karmaṇāṃ phalavipāka iti | jīvitendriyanirodhāt mṛtakaḥ | deśāntaragato 'nyadyatra deśagamanāt | ityete pañca pudgalāḥ lābhaṃ nārhanti ||

amuṣmai deyamityādi | amukasmai bhikṣave dātavyoyaṃ madīyo lābha ityevaṃ lābhe samutpanne sati yadi kaścidyatiḥ mriyate tadā niyatamavaśyaṃ tasmai vikalpitabhikṣave sa lābho deya iti bhagavatoktaṃ | deśāntaretyādi | ito deśāttraimāsamadhiṣṭhāyānyatra deśāntaragatasya yateḥ lābhaḥ kalpe mandire kalpakuṭayāṃ sthāpayitabyaḥ | yadā cāvarṣoṣitavibhrāntakudṛṣṭayastrayaḥ pudgalāḥ saṃghasyānartha kurvanti, tadā tebhyaḥ prāśyādi na sāṃghikamannapānādi dātavyaṃ budhaiḥ | nanuca lābhaṃ nārhanti pañcaketyuktaṃ (SŚ 41) tatkimarthamidamucyate- amuṣmai deyamityādi kārikādvayaṃ? satyametat | kintu yadā avikalpo mriyate, anutpanne ca lābhe gacchati, avarṣoṣitavibhrāntakudṛṣṭayaśca trayaḥ pudgalāḥ yadānarthaṃ vā kurvanti, tadaite pañca pudgalā lābhaṃ nārhanti, viparyayādarhantīti vyabhicārasaṃbhavādadoṣaḥ ||

ācchādamityādi | ete yatayaḥ kule varṣāmupagatā bhavanti | tatra yadi dānapati sāmānyenaivaṃ vadet- ācchādaṃ dāsyāmi, cīvaraṃ dāsyāmi, cīvaramūlyaṃ dāsyāmi, ācchādamūlyaṃ dāsyāmītyebhiścaturbhiḥ śabdairutpadyate yo lābhaḥ sa samukhībhūtānāṃ prāpnoti, netareṣāṃ | varṣāvāsiketyādi | varṣoṣitānāmācchādaṃ dāsyā[mi], cīvaraṃ, ācchādakrayaṃ, cīvarakrayaṃ caitaiścaturbhiśca śabdairyo lābhaḥ samupajāyate, sa varṣoṣitānāṃ prāpnoti | yadi dāyakastadvarṣāvāsikaṃ lābha avarṣoṣitānāmapi dadāti, tadā dāyakasyecchayā gṛhṇato na doṣaḥ ||

yāmika ityādi | yasmin divase bhagavānutpannaḥ anuttarāñca samyaksaṃbodhimabhisaṃbuddhaḥ tatra yo maho yā pūjā, sa jātisaṃbodhyādimahaḥ | tata utpanno yo lābhaḥ saṃghasya sa evamucyate | mṛtapariṣkāraśca kṣudrapariṣkāraścetyādi dvandvaḥ | kālikaḥ yāmikaḥ yāvajjīvikaḥ sāptāhikaḥ mṛtapariṣkāraḥ kṣudrapariṣkāraḥ naityakaḥ akālacīvaraṃ kuṭīpratiṣṭhā jātisaṃbodhyādimahodbhavaśceti yo 'yaṃ daśaprakāro lābhaḥ sa saṃmukhībhūtānāṃ prāpnoti ||

anādheyamityādi | sāṃghikaṃ yacchayanāsanaṃ tadanādheyaṃ, pratibandhatvena na dātavyamityarthaḥ | na vikretavyaṃ, na ca paudvalikaṃ kṛtvā paribhoktavyaṃ | ye tu śrāmaṇerāḥ (SŚ 42) sāṃghikaṃ śayanāsanaṃ pratibandhakatvena dadati, vikrīṇīte, paudgalikatvena vā paribhuñjateraṃ teṣāṃ duṣkṛtaṃ bhavati ||

cāturdiśāyetyādi | kaściddānapatiḥ kiñciddravyānta, kadāciccāturdiśāyāryasaghāya dadāti, buddhāya vā bhagavate, saṃmukhībhūtāya vā saṃghāya tatsarvaṃ yatistatra tatropanāmayet | yaccāturdiśāya dattaṃ taccāturdiśāyaivopanāmayitavyamityeṣā dik ||

tūṣṇīṃ datvetyādi | kaściddānapatiḥ vihāramāgatya muktāphalādika datvā tūṣṇīṃ bhūto gacchet | tasmin tūṣṇīṃ datvā gate dānapatau sati buddhāya bhagavate muktā phalādi dātavyaṃ, yacchayanāsanaṃ taccāturdiśāya | saṃmukhībhūtāya tu saṃghāya vastrādikaṃ dātavyamiti ||

katibhiraṅgaiḥ samanvāgato 'dattādānaṃ gṛhṇan aśrāmaṇero bhavati? āha | pṛthudravyamityādi | pṛthuvistīrṇaṃ | kiṃ taddravyaṃ? kākinīnyūnaṃ māṣakapañcakaṃ | svakīyamapi kadācittadbhavatītyāha | paropāttamiti | kadāciddravyaṃ paropāttamapi sat yatiḥ paropāttasaṃjñā na bhavatītyata āha | tatsaṃjñī paropāttasaṃjñītyarthaḥ | kadācidetatsarvaṃ bhava[ti], na tu steyacetanetyataḥ steyacetaneti vacanaṃ | stainyacittaṃ copasthitaṃ bhavatātyarthaḥ | kadācidetadaṅgacatuṣṭayaṃ saṃbhavadapi sat taddravya sthānānna cyāvitaṃ syādityata āha | sthānacyutiśceti |

pañcabhiraṅgaiḥ samanvāgato yatiradattamādadāno 'pi na cyutasaṃvaro bhavati | katamaiḥ pañcabhirityāha | dattasvaketyādi | dattasaṃjñā svakasaṃjñā aparopāttasaṃjñā ca vidyate yasya yateḥ sa yathokto yatiḥ | anyo 'pi ca svāṃśāttāvatkālikatvena ca gṛhṇan na saṃvaraṃ saṃvarī jahāti |

ādāyādattamityādi | ādāyeti gṛhītvā | adattaṃ pu[naḥ] dravyaṃ utpluyedvadhvā khamākāśaṃ gatvā | diśānāṃ catuṣṭayaṃ dikcatuṣṭayamityarthaḥ | āśāśabdasya dikparyāyatvāt | tatraiveti | yasmāt pratyāgataḥ punarbhūyastatropaviṣṭaḥ | san kṣatasaṃvaro bhavati, ayatirbhavatītyarthaḥ |

avakrītādiriti vistaraḥ | kaścidyatiḥ kenacitkrīto bhavati, bhṛtako vā sa ajñānāt smṛtisaṃpramoṣātkalpikasaṃjñayā vā paradravyaṃ gṛhṇan kṣatasaṃvaro bhavati | unmattavikṣiptacetasastu yatayaḥ parasvamādadānā api santonāpattibhājo bhavanti stainyacittābhāvāt ||

tatra kālikamityārabhya yāvaddakṣiṇādeśanepyevamityebhirvākyaiḥ saṃvaratyāga uktaḥ | upakāryapakārimya ityārabhya yāvat tūṣṇīṃ datvetyādibhirvākyaiḥ duṣkṛtānyudāhṛtāni | śeṣaistu pāñcāṅganiyama iti |

bhājanasthaṃ guru dravyaṃ cauryabuddhayā yatirnayan |
yojanāni daśaikañca syānna vā śrīghanaḥ ||

maithunaviratiśikṣāpadalakṣaṇaṃ labdhvāvakāśamadhikṛtyāha | nṛstrītyādi | nā ca strī ca paṇḍakaśceti nṛstrīpaṇḍakāsteṣāṃ yāni viṇmūtravaktrāṇi, teṣāṃ yat randhraṃ vivaraṃ chidraṃ, tasmin aṅgajātaṃ puruṣendriyaṃ tilamātramapi prakṣipya yaḥ śrāmaṇeraḥ svādaṃ nigamayet sa kṣatasaṃvarā bhavati, ayatibhavatītyarthaḥ ||

manuṣyagativyatirikteṣvapi strīpuruṣapaṇḍakeṣu maithunamadhyācarataḥ saṃvaratyāgo bhavatīti darśayannāha | mānuṣāmānuṣāste tviti vistaraḥ | atra kārikāpāṭhe vivādaḥ | tatraike mānuṣāmānuṣāste tu tiryañca[śca] narādaya iti pāṭha matvaivaṃ vyācakṣate | āha | narādaya ityādiśabdena strīpaṇḍakayorgrahaṇaṃ | tena narādaya iti | nṛstrīpaṇḍakā ityarthaḥ | manuṣyagatiparyāpannāḥ, amanuṣyagatiparyāpannāstiryaggatiparyāpannāśca nṛstrīpaṇḍakā jāgranto mṛtāḥ suptāśca maithunāśrayā avagantavyā iti | apare punarmānuṣā[mānuṣā]ste tu tiryañcaścāmarādaya iti pāṭhaṃ matvaivaṃ bruva[te] | mānuṣāmānuṣāste tviti | tacchabdenānantaraprayuktā nṛstrīpaṇḍakāḥ parigṛhyante tacchabdasyānantarābhidhāyitvāt | tu śabda evakārārthe | ta eva nṛstrīpaṇḍakā manuṣyagatiparigṛhītāḥ amanuṣyagatiparigṛhītāḥ tiryaggatiparigṛhītāśca pratyekaṃ jāgranto mṛtāḥ suptāśca maithunāśrayā jñeyāḥ | amarādaya ityamarā devāḥ ādiśabdenānyāmapi gati grāhayati | ato devāsuranarakapretagatisaṃgṛhīteṣvapi strīpuruṣapaṇḍakeṣu maithunamadhyācarataḥ saṃvaratyāgo bhavati | eta eva tu yujyate | anyathā hi narādaya ityanena nṛstrītareṣāṃ grahaṇe siddhe tviti tacchabdagrahaṇamatiricyate | (SŚ 45) atha mataṃ- tacchabdena ta eva mānuṣāmānuṣāḥ saṃbadhyanta ityasaṃbaddhametat | na hi pratyakṣāpātteṣu śabdeṣu tacchabdaḥ prayujyata sūribhiranavasthāprasaṅgāt | na cāpi tacchabdena viṇmūtravaktrarandhrasya saṃbandha iti pāryate vaktuṃ, randhraśabdasya napuṃsakaliṅgatvāt ekavacananirdeśāt, iha ca te tviti puṃliṅgena bahuvacanena nirdeśāt | atha mataṃ- viṇmatravaktrarandhraviśeṣā iti vyākhyāsyāma iti | yathā hi viṇmūtravaktrarandhraviśeṣāḥ strīpuruṣapaṇḍakāḥ manuṣyāmanuṣyatiryagga[ti]parigṛhītā maithunāśrayā jñeyā ityapūrvāyaṃ kriyākāra[ka]saṃbandhaḥ narādīnāmiti saṃbandhaṣaṣṭhayabhāvāt anyasyāśca gateḥ parigrahaṇāt | tasmādamarādaya ityeva pāṭhaḥ | evaṃ vicārite kecidatra bruvata narādaya ityapi pāṭhe ādiśabdena strīpaṇḍakayoranya[syā]śca gateḥ parigraho bhaviṣyati | ko 'tra virodha iti ||

atra na sarvā tiryagyonirabhipretā sūkṣmaudārikatvena maithunākṣamatvāt | kintu viśiṣṭaiveti darśayannāha | hastinīmāditaḥ kṛtveti vistaraḥ | hastinījāteḥ prabhṛti yāvat kukkuṭā jātiḥ | atrāntarāle yānyonyāpekṣayākṣudrikā maṃhato jātiḥ tāṃ tāṃ gacchan tasyāṃ tasyā jātau maithunamācaran vratāccyavate, aśrāmaṇerā bhavatītyarthaḥ | ata evādinirdeśāt hastinījāteyānyā mahattarā jātiḥ, kukkuṭājāteśca yānyā (SŚ 46) svalpatarā tasyāṃ vipratipadyamānasya na saṃvaratyāgaḥ, kintu duṣkṛtaṃ syāditi ||

yatirna kevalaṃ maithunamadhyācaritaṃ na kṣamate strīdarśanādyapi na kṣamata iti pratipāda[ya]nnāha | raktaḥ sanniti vistaraḥ | yatiḥ saṃraktaḥ san striyaṃ na paśyet, na ca tasyāḥ śabdamākarṇayet | nirvastraśca san nirvastrāṃ striyaṃ nopeyāt, na gacchet, na ca puruṣendriyaṃ nirbhujet | etasyātra vidhikaraṇātsarvatra duṣkṛtaṃ bhavati ||

kiṃ punaḥ pāṭitāyāmapi maithunamadhyācarataḥ saṃvaratyāgo bhavati? bhavatītyāha bhittidvayetyādi | strīndriyādhiṣṭhānasaṃjñitāṃ koṭarikāṃ vātātapādinā śuṣkāṃ śastreṇavā pṛthak pṛthak kṛtāṃ tattailādibhiḥ klinnāṃ saṃyojyaikīkṛtya yaḥ śrāmaṇero vipratipadyate sa nāśayitavyaḥ | saṃgrahe sati | yadi sā koṭarikā sagrahamupayāti, tadā doṣo 'nyadā neti ||

adha ūrdhvamityādi | kācitstrī trikhaṇḍīkṛtā bhavati | tasyā adhaḥ khaṇḍe upari khaṇḍe ca vinīlādhmātikāñcavratī na vrajet | yā cāsthisaṅkalā pūyarudhirādibhiramyaktā tāmapi na yāyāt | sitāsthisaṅkaleti vistaraḥ | sitā śuklā yā asthisaṅkalā, śailamayī yā śilāyāṃ nidhātā dārumayī yā kāṣṭhamayī, pustamayī yā lepakṛtā | tāṃ sitāsthisaṅkalāṃ yāvatpustamayīṃ striyaṃ na gacchet | mithunaṃ strīpuruṣayoryugmaṃ, tatra utpadyate yaḥ sukhaviśeṣaḥ tanmaithunaṃ | tasmātsadā sarvakālaṃ yo virata iti yativiśeṣaṇaṃ ||

dhyānetyādi | gataḥ prāptaḥ | dhyānamiddhagatastaṃ dhyānasamāpannaṃ nidrayābhibhūtaṃ ca vibuddhamapi śayitaṃ surāpānādinā mattaṃ mahābhūtavaiṣamyādinā vā vikṣiptacittaṃ rukṣayā vā vedanayā tunnaṃ vyathitaṃ yati yā kācitstrī balādgṛhītvā yateraṅgajātaṃ ātmīye 'ṅgajāte prakṣipet | tasmin balato 'bhiniṣīdati mātṛgrāme kimityāha | ādimadhyetyādi | ādāvaṃgajātapraveśakāle, madhye paryavasāne ca ya āsvāda nigamayet | yatiḥ kīdṛkṣaḥ? tato dhyānāvyutyitaḥ | sa vihārād ghaṭṭayitavyaḥ | āsvādanābhāve tu neti | etaccādhimātramadhyamṛdurāgiṇaṃ pudgalamadhikṛtyoktamityavaseyaṃ |

yaduktamādimadhyāvasāneṣa svādayediti tatra keyamāsvādanā nāmetyāha | nānetyādi | nānā prakārāṇāṃ vyañjanānāṃ rasānāṃ nānāvidhena yadupetaṃ samanvitaṃ śāliḥbhaktaṃ tasya paribhogaḥ tadvadāsvādanā draṣṭavyā | yathā śauṇḍasya mattavālakasya tailava[t] svacchasyānnāsavasya surāyāḥ pānāsvādastadvat maithunāsvādo 'vaseyaḥ | anye anyathā vyācakṣate śuṇḍiṣu bhavaḥ śauṇḍaḥ | kaḥ punarasau? annāsavaḥ | kīdṛśaḥ? tailācchaḥ | tailava[t] svaccho yaḥ śoṇḍo 'nnāsavaḥ, tasya pānamabhyavaharaṇaṃ | tadvat kiṃ? āsvādanā jñeyeti | anāsvādaḥ punaḥ kīdṛśa ityāha | anāsvādā yuvagrīvetyādi | yathā yūnastaruṇasya grīvāyāṃ mṛtakukkurabandhaḥ | yathā ca sukumārasya puṃsaḥ (SŚ 48) pradīptalohasparśastadvadanāsvādo vijñeyaḥ | dhyāyantyaneneti dhyānaṃ, prajñānaṃtītyarthaḥ | taccāṅgabhedāccaturvidhaṃ bhavati | prathamadvitīyatṛtīyacaturthadhyānabhedena | siddhaṃ kāyasaṃdhāraṇāsamarthaścittābhisaṃkṣepo, nidreti yo 'rthaḥ | te dhyānamiddhe iti |

avakrītetyādi | asyārthaḥ pūrvaśikṣāpadānusāreṇāvaseyaḥ ||

rāgāmanuṣyetyādi | rañjanaṃ rāgaḥ, rañjayate vāneneti cittamiti rāgaḥ | tena rāgādinā praguṇībhūtaṃ yadaṃgajātaṃ tacchukranirmokṣārthaṃ na kadācidapi spṛśet | kairna spṛśedityāha | pṛthivyādidhātubhiḥ |

tiryaksaṃyogetyādi | tiryakmaithunādhyācāradarśanāt prāmādikaḥ strīpuruṣa darśanācca, tīvrarāgāditayā yadi śukrasya muktirbhavet tadā yatirmānasaṃ vigarhedvirūpakaṃ mayā kṛtaṃ na punarevaṃ kariṣyāmīti |

majjetyādi | majjājātaṃ majjajaṃ śukraṃ, tasya kṣaraṇamapagamaḥ | yasya yateḥ svapne śukravinirmuktirbhavati, tasya doṣo na bhavati | kathaṃ punarbhavatītyāha | kāraṇamāha | svapnetyādi | pañcasvapnā vinaye uktāḥ | satyasvapno yathā bodhisattvena dṛṣṭaḥ, alīkasvapno yathā dṛṣṭaḥ tathā na bhavatya'līkaṃ mṛṣeti kṛtvā, acīrṇasvapno yatsatatakaraṇīyaṃ vastu dṛśyate, anantasvapno yaḥ sakalāṃrātriṃ dṛśyatena paricchidyate, svapnasvapno yaḥ svapna evānyaḥ svapno dṛśyate | tadukta bhavati- yasya yateḥ svapne śukranirmokṣo bhavati, tasya manāgapi doṣo na bhavatyalīkatvātsvapnasya | anyathā hya'nāśvāsikaṃ brahmacaryaṃ syāt svapne 'pi maithunādhyācāreṇāpattiprasaṅgāt ||

rāgetyādi | rāgeṇāviṣṭaṃ parigṛhītaṃ yaccittaṃ tena rāgāviṣṭena cetasā yatirnārīṃ striyaṃ śrīghano na spṛśet | puṃnapuṃsakamiti | puruṣaṃ paṇḍakaṃ cetyarthaḥ | śeṣaṃ sugamaṃ |

(SŚ 49)
stanakakṣetyādi | stanau kakṣe ca oṣṭhau ca nābhiśca ūrū ca pārśve ca kukṣiśca malabhramaśceti dvandvaḥ | atastān stanakakṣauṣṭhanābhyūrupārśvakukṣimalabhramān yatiḥ saṃraktaḥ san na nindet, na nindāṃ kuryāt | na ca saṃstuyānna ca praśaṃsedityarthaḥ, aśobhanau tava payodharau śobhanau vā yāvadaṅgajāta iti | katamāsāṃ tu tān stanakakṣādīnna ninde[di]tyāha | strīṇāmiti | malabhramaśabdenātra strīṇāmaṅgajātamucyate ||

yadyadvadedityādi | yat yadvacanaṃ striyāḥ antike striyaṃ śrīghanaḥ maithunādhyācāraṃ kartukāmaḥ puruṣo bravroti yathā yatheti yena yena prakāreṇa [tat]tadvacanaṃ yatiḥ striyaṃ na vadet tathā tatheti tena tena prakāreṇetyarthaḥ ||

agretyādi | yoṣicchabdena mātṛgrāmo vidhīyate | yā strī māṃ paricarenmama paricaryāṃ kuryāt | kutaḥ? rahaḥ, rahasītyarthaḥ | sā agrā bhavati, śreṣṭhā bhavati | vyādhihīneti vyādhirahitā | yaśasvinīti yaśaḥ samanvitā, kīrtiyuktā | lābhinī ca bhavati | keṣāmityāha | āyurādīnāṃ | ādiśabdena varṇabalasaukhyādīnāṃ grahaṇaṃ | ityādi na vaco brūyādityādi | agrā bhavati sā yoṣidityevamādikaṃ vācaṃ na vadet | ka ityāha | śrīghanaḥ | kīdṛkṣa ityāha | rāgāgnipluṣṭamānasaḥ | rāga evāgniḥ rāgāgnirdahanātmakatvāt, tena pluṣṭaṃ dagdhaṃ mānasaṃ ceto yasya sa evamucyate | kasyāgrato na vade[di]tyāha | purastācchrīghanaḥ strīṇāmityādi | strīṇāmagnataḥ, puruṣasya paṇḍakasya cetyarthaḥ ||

(SŚ 50)
strīpuruṣayoḥ saṃyogārthaṃ dautyaṃ kartuṃ na labhyata iti darśayitumāha | vivāhāvāhayorityādi | tatra vivāho dārikāparigrahaḥ | anyena paribhuktasya mātṛgna masya saṃgrahaṇamāvāhaḥ vivāhaścāvāhaśca vivāhāvāhau | atastayorvivāhāvāhayoḥ | vivāhanimittaṃ saṃgrahanimittañca dautyakarma na kuryāt | ka ityāha | śrāmaṇerakaḥ | śrāmaṇera eva śrāmaṇerakaḥ | kecittu kutsāyāṃ kanaṃ vidadhati | kutsitaḥ śrāmaṇeraḥ śrāmaṇeraka iti | taiḥ kutsārtho darśanīyaḥ- kathaṃ kutsitosau yatiriti? dautyakarmakaraṇāditi cet, na pratiṣedho 'yaṃ vartate- na kuryāditi | yaśca na kurute, sa kathaṃ kutsāmāsādayati | tasmātsvārtha evāyaṃ kaneṣṭavyaḥ | na kevalaṃ vivāhāvāhanimittaṃ dautyaṃ na kuryāttatkṣaṇamaithunādhyācāranimittamapi na kurvātāpiśabdaḥ sūcayati | dāpayeyamityādi | tatra samutpannakarmaphalasatyaratnādisaṃpratyayaḥ śrāddhaḥ | tasmai śrāddhāyopāsakadārakāya imāṃ śrāddhāṃ upāsakadārikāṃ dāpayeyamiti | evamarthasaṃsyandanāsūtraṃ yatirbhāṣittuṃ na ghaṭate ||

bījārthamityādi | garbhotpādanimittaṃ vratī gavādikaṃ na dadyāt | etānevāśvādīn bījārthaṃ parebhyaḥ kadācidapi na prārthayet ||

(SŚ 51)
tulyametāsvityādi | bahavaḥ striyo yasya taṃ bahustrīkaṃ puruṣaṃ yatiḥ naivaṃ vadet- kimiti ekayā striyā sārdhaṃ mā tvaṃ tiṣṭha, kintu paripāṭayā sarvāḥ striyo vaseti ||

sphuṭārthāyāṃ śrīghanācārasaṃgrahaṭīkāyāṃ maithunaviratiśikṣāpadaṃ tṛtīyaṃ ||

mṛṣāvādaviratiśikṣāpadamadhikṛtyāha | pratyekabuddhetyādi | tatrātmārthaṃmekaṃ prati buddha iti pratyekabuddhaḥ | samyagaviparītaṃ samantāt jñeyaṃ buddhā iti saṃbuddhāḥ | teṣāṃ śiṣyāstacchiṣyāḥ | tacchabdenātra saṃbuddhā eva parigṛhyante, na pratyekabuddhā tacchabdasyānantarābhidhāyitvāt | pratyeka buddhāśca saṃbuddhāśca tacchiṣyāśceti vigrahaḥ | teṣāṃ yat jñānaṃ darśanañca tat mamāsti, mama saṃvidyata iti | asaṃvidyamānamapi santaṃ yaḥ śrāmaṇero mṛṣā vakti sa nāśanīyo 'śrāmaṇeratvena dhārayitavya ityarthaḥ | kiṃ punarabhimānādapi yo bravīti so 'pi nāśyaḥ? netyāha | anyatrābhimānataḥ | anyatraśabdo varjanārthe vartate | anyatra bhīṣmadroṇābhyāṃ sarve yodhāḥ parāṅmukhā iti anyatraśabdasya varjanārthe prayogadarśanāt | aprāpte uttaraviśeṣādhigame prāpto mayeti manyamānasya yā cittasyonnatiḥ sobhimānaḥ | tasmādabhimānādyo jñānaṃ darśanañca pra[ti]jānīte tasya saṃvaratyāgo na bhavati prāptasaṃjñitvāt |

yaduktaṃ jñānadarśanaṃ mamāstīti bruvan mithyā nāśya iti tatra katarajjñānaṃ katamacca darśanamiti na jñāyate | ato jñānadarśanaṃ tayorlakṣaṇamadhikṛtyāha | jñānaṃ satyābhisaṃbodhirityādi | satyāni catvāri duḥkhasamudayanirodhamārgākhyāni | tatra duḥkhasatyaṃ pañcopādānaskandhāḥ | samudayasatyaṃ paunarbhavikī tṛṣṇā | nirodhasatyaṃ yadasyāḥ paunarbhavikyāḥ tṛṣṇāyāḥ prahāṇaṃ | mārgasatyaṃ ayamevāryāṣṭāṅgo mārgaḥ tadyathā samyagdṛṣṭiḥ, samyaksaṃkalpaḥ, samyagvāk, samyakkarmāntaḥ, samyagājīvaḥ, samyagvyāyāmaḥ, samyaksmṛtiḥ, samyaksamādhiśca | tatra bodhanaṃ bodhiravagamaḥ avabodhaḥ parijñānaṃ bodhijñānārthatvāt | abhītyayamupasarga ābhimukhye (SŚ 53) vartate, samītya'viparītatve | tenāyaṃ vākyārtho jāyate- duḥkhādīnāmāryasatyānāṃ nirvāṇābhimukhā samyagaviparītā yā bodhistajjñānamucyate | abhijñāḥ pañca darśanamiti | abhijñānamabhijñājñānamityarthaḥ | tatra pañcābhijñāḥ | divyaṃ cakṣuryenātidūrasūkṣmavyavahitāni rūpāṇi paśyati karatalāvasthitamivāmalakaṃ, divyaṃ śroto yena dūrāsannāḥ śabdā śrūyante devamanuṣyāṇāmantaśaḥ kuntapipīlikasyāpi, paracittajñānaṃ yena parakīyān cittacaittān jānāti- sarāgaṃ cittaṃ sarāgamityādi, pūrvanivāsānusmṛtikṣānaṃ yenātmanaḥ pareṣāṃ cābhinivṛttajātiparaṃparāḥ smarati- amutrāhaṃ evannāmā evaṃgotrāka ityādi, āstravakṣayajñānaṃ yenātmano jānāti- kṣīṇā me jātiruṣitaṃ brahmacaryaṃ yāvannāparamitthatvamiti | etāḥ paṃcābhijñā darśanabhityucyante ||

upalakṣaṇārthame[ta]jjñānadarśanagrahaṇamiti pratipādayannāha | dharmānvayādiketyādi | dharmatattvālambanaṃ jñānaṃ dharmajñānaṃ yena kleśān prajahāti | yatparasantānānugamaṃ jñānaṃ pratyātmavedyamutpadyate yairanyaiḥ kleśaprahāṇaṃ kṛtaṃ, ye pi sāṃprataṃ kurvanti kariṣyanti vā tepīdṛśameva jñānamadhigatavantau'dhigacchanti adhigamiṣyantītyetadanvayajñānaṃ | ādiśabdena saṃvṛtajñānādīn grāhayati |

dharmajñānānvayajñānaṃ sāṃvṛtaṃ pa[ra]cittavit |
sādhyaṃ naimittikaṃ jñānaṃ praṇidhākhyañca saptamaṃ ||

(SŚ 54)
iti saptānāṃ jñānānāṃ ślokaḥ | dharmajñānādīnāmaṅgīkaraṇe anyaṃ pūrvokto na yogya iti saṃvaratyāgo bhavatīti ||

āryamlecchetyādi | āryaśabdenātrāryadeśajāḥ puruṣāḥ parigṛhyante na prahīṇakleśāḥ mlecchaśabdena ca śavarādayaḥ | teṣāṃ yadvacanaṃ tena lekhena deśāntarasthasya lipyā saṃmukhameva likhitvā | hastamudrayeti aṅgulīvinyāsena | hastyavikāreṇetyabhinayena yaḥ śrāmaṇero jñānadarśanādikaṃ pratijānīte, tadapi [jñāna]darśanādikaṃ mṛṣeti boddhavyaṃ | lekhādiṣvaparān bodhayataḥ saṃvaratyāgo na bhavati vākpravyāhārābhāvāt ||

vṛkṣamūletyādi || ahamekākyadvitīyo vṛkṣamūle viharāmi śūnye ca mandire gṛhe ahaṃ rame, mama ca yaccittaṃ tadekāgraṃ samāhitamityevamādi atīndriyaṃ vastu yatinā na vācyaṃ ||

atiprasaṅganivṛttyarthamāha || buddhādīnāmiti | varṇoguṇaḥ, sa bahudhā tathā gatasya loke khyāpayitavyaḥ svaparārthasaṃpādakatvāt | ityapi sa bhagavān daśabhirbalaiḥ samanvāgataścaturbhiḥ vaiśāradyaiḥ tribhiḥ smṛtyupasthānaiḥ mahākaruṇayā ceti | ādigrahaṇena dharmasaṃghayorapi | ātmanastu guṇaḥ kenacidapi prakāreṇa na vaktavyaḥ | kathañcaneti kathañcidityarthaḥ | pṛṣṭastu san yatiḥ parakīyaṃ guṇaṃ saṃvidyamānaṃ vadettatrāpi tasya guṇavataḥ pudgalasya saṃmukhaṃ na vadet ||

yadāha brūyāttatsaṃmukhaṃ na tu [iti] vistareṇānadhigatasvabhāvamṛṣāvādalakṣaṇaṃ pratipādayitumanā cāryānāryavyavahārānupanyasati | dṛṣṭamityādinā | tatra dṛṣṭaṃ yaccakṣurvijñānenānubhūtaṃ śrutaṃ yacchotravijñātaṃ, mataṃ yadghrāṇajihvākāya vijñānaiḥ vijñātaṃ yanmanovijñānenetyeke | apare punarāhuḥ- dṛṣṭaṃ yat pañcabhirindriyaiḥ paricchinnaṃ, śrutaṃ yatparata āgamitaṃ, mataṃ yatsvayamupapattito 'vadhāritaṃ, vijñātaṃ yanmanasā pratyātmavedyenākāreṇa paricchannaṃ | tasmin dṛṣṭe dṛṣṭamiti vadet yāvadvijñātaṃmiti | vaiparītyena gadanmithyābhidhāyaka iti | viparītasya bhāvo vaiparītyaṃ tena anāryavyavahāreṇetyarthaḥ | anāryavyavahārāśca punaradṛṣṭe dṛṣṭavādikādayaḥ | gadanniti vadan | mithyābhidhāyaka iti mṛṣāvādī syādityartha ||

surāmaireyavyatiriktamanyadapi madanīyaṃ vastu paribhoktuṃ na labhyata iti darśayannāha | kodravānnamityādi | kodravabhaktaṃ yatirnaṃ bhuñjīta, na ca tasya kodravasya (SŚ 60) palāle svapet | madayedityādi | yaccānyatsurāmaireyavyatiriktaṃ madyavarṇagandharasaṃ pītaṃ sanmadayenmadaṃ janayet, tadapi na pātavyaṃ | pibato duṣkṛtaṃ bhavati | ata eva madanīyaṃ pūgaphalādi jñātvā na bhakṣaṇīyaṃ ||

surāmaireyamadyaṃ vai pibeddadyācca cellakaḥ |

tatrāpi jināṣṭāṅgulapramāṇe 'pi mañce pīṭhe vā vinā pratyāstaraṇenopaviṣṭuṃ [na] labhyata iti darśayitumāha | sāṃghike śayane dadyādityādi | saṃghasyeda sāṃghikaṃ śayanāsanaṃ | tatra pratyāstaraṇaṃ yatiḥ prayacchet | tacca pratyāstaraṇa na tṛṇapatrādika mabhipretaṃ, kintu viṣṭaretyāha | vastretyādi | sūkṣmasya vastrasya tripuṭaṃ ghanasya vastrasya dvipuṭaṃ kambalasya ekapuṭaṃ pratyāstaraṇamiṣṭaṃ, abhipretamityartha | kramāditi yathākramaṃ, pratyāstaraṇasya tridvayekapuṭabhedo 'vaseya ityarthaḥ ||

atirekaprāmāṇike sāṃghike śayanāsane yathā pratipattavyaṃ tathā darśanannāha | nyasya garteṣu tatpādāniti vistaraḥ | tacchabdena sāṃghikaśayanāsana mabhisaṃvadhyate | tena tatpādāniti sāṃghikaśayanāsanapādān | kīdṛśān? atirekapramāṇakān, jināṣṭāṅgulapramāṇādadhikapramāṇānityarthaḥ | nyasya prakṣipya | kutretyāha | garteṣu | athavā suṣirapratipādeṣu prakṣipya | kiṃ evaṃ vratī niṣeveta sāṃghikaṃ śayanāsanaṃ? śayanāsanamiti vakṣyate | ṭaṃkitvā kīlakeṣu veti | athavā caturṣu kīlakeṣu tānatirekapramāṇakān pādān ṭaṃkitvā badhvā kiṃ kartavyamiti na jñāyate kriyākāra[ka]saṃbandhasya parisamāptatvāt | ata āha evaṃ vetyādi | amunānantaroktena krameṇa sāṃghikaṃ śayanāsanaṃ bhajeta | ikṣuyavagodhūmādīnāṃ (SŚ 63) rakṣārthaṃ yaddīrghapādaḥ mañcaḥ kriyate, tatrādhvago yatiḥ svapet | ādiśabdāt gṛhiśayyāsanasya grahaṇaṃ vedyaṃ | tatrāpi gṛhiṇāṃ śayanāsane yatinā na pādau lambīyayitavyau- mā bhūjjanāvadhyānamiti ||

pravrajyāṃ prasāṇīkṛtya yathāvṛddhikayā sāṃghikaṃ vihāramuddeṣṭavyamiti darśayannāha | alpaṃ ce[di]tyādi | yadi bahavaḥ śrāmaṇerā bhavanti vihārāśca stokāstadā ekaikaṃ vi[hā]raṃ dvādaśebhyaḥ śrāmaṇerebhyo dātavyaṃ | athaivamapi bahavoyatayo bhavanti, tadā antato 'gatyā nirmuṣṭakaṃ hastamekaikasmai śrāmaṇerāya dātavyaṃ | bahutve tu viparyayāditi | kathaṃ viparyayāt? yadi bahavo vihārā bhavanti yatayaśca [stokāḥ], tadā ekaismai api śrāmaṇerāya bahavo vihārā dātavyāḥ | tatra vihāraśabdena layanamevocyate viharantyasminniti kṛtvā ||

stokaṃ cedityādi | yadi stokaṃ śayanāsanaṃ bhavati yatayaśca bahavaḥ, tadā tatra yo vṛddhaḥ sa mañce svapet | yastu navakaḥ sa pīṭhe svapet | athaivamapi sarveṣāṃ na bhavati, tadā yāvadvṛkṣamūle vṛddhena svaptavyaṃ, navakena tvabhyavakāśaka ityevaṃ yathāvṛddhikayā sāṃghikaṃ śayanāsanamuddeṣṭavyaṃ | kiṃ punaḥ sarvakālamebetyāha | antarvarṣāsu no sthāpya ityādi | antarvarṣākāle yatinā yathāvṛddhikayānyaḥ sabrahmacārī nopasthāpayitavyaḥ | ya upasthā[pa]yati tasya duṣkṛtaṃ bhavati ||

atha kimarthaṃ śayanāsanamuddiśyata ityāha | saṃskāretyādi | chinnagranthyādikaraṇaṃ saṃskāraḥ | tatra svātmāvasthitiḥ paribhogaḥ | paripālanaṃ saṃrakṣaṇaṃ | evamarthaṃ sāṃghika śayanāsanamuddiśyate na vyasanitayeti darśayati ||

kiṃ punaḥ sarvāṇyeva layanānyuddeṣṭavyāni? netyāha | kiṃ tarhi hīnamadhyetyādi | yadi bhūyāṃsi layanāni santi saṃvariṇaścālpīyānsastadā āgantukānāṃ bhikṣūṇāmavasthitaye layanatrayaṃ sthāpayitavyaṃ kīdṛśamityāha | hīnamadhyottamaṃ | yadyāgantukā āgacchanti, [ta]dā vṛddhādyāgantukebhyastaduddiśeddaharakramāt | teṣāṃ trayāṇāṃ layanānāṃ madhye yaduttamaṃ layanaṃ tadvṛddhāyāgantukabhikṣave uddeṣṭavyaṃ yanmadhyaṃ tattato navakāya, yaddhīnaṃ tatsarvanavakāyeti ||

kimarthaṃ punarbhagavānuccaśayanamahāśayanapratiṣedhaṃ cakāretyāha | śayanāsanamatyucceti vistaraḥ | yasmādatīvoccaṃ śayanāsanaṃ yateḥ śrāmaṇerasya madakaraṃ, auddhatyakaraṃ, lākāvadhyānasya ca hetukāraṇaṃ, tasmātkāraṇād bhagavatoccaśayanamahāśayanaṃ pratiṣiddhamiti | jināṣṭāṅgulapramāṇādatirekapramāṇikatvāduccaśayanaṃ, mahāśayanañca rukmarūpyamayatvāditi ||

nṛttagītavāditra[viśokadarśanavirati]śikṣāpadamadhikṛtyāha | bāhuvikṣepakamityādi | dvayorbāhvorvikṣepaṇa sphoraṇaṃ kṛtvā yannartanaṃ tannṛttamucyate | etaccanṛttamunmattatvamiti bhagavānavocat | yaccoccaiḥ svareṇa gītametadāryāṇāṃ samunmūlitākhilākuśalamūlānāmajñānapaṭalapāṭanapaṭūnāṃ ruditaṃ kranditamiti | yasmādbhagavānavadat tasmātkāraṇāt vīṇāvaṃśamṛdaṅgādivāditraṃ yatirna vādayet | yasmin krīḍāsthāne utsavādike gatvā vigataśokāḥ syuḥ strīpuruṣāstatkrīḍāsthānaṃ vigataśokaṃ yatirna yāyāt | yastu śrāmaṇero hṛṣṭaḥ san nṛ[tya]ti gāyati vāditraṃ vādagrati, tasya duṣkṛtaṃ bhavati ||

gandhamālyavilepanaviratiśikṣāpadamadhikṛtyāha | candanetyādi | yatiścandanādikaṃ gandhaṃ dhā[ra]yet | kīdṛśo yatirityāha | vyādhiḥ saṃjāto yasyeti vyādhito, glāna ityarthaḥ | kasya vacanena dhārayedityāha | bhiṣagāderityāha | vaidyopadeśāt | katamena vidhinetyāha | datvetyādi | pūrvaṃ munaye buddhāya bhagavate candanādikaṃ gandhaṃ datvā paścādātmanā dhārayet | svasthastu yatiḥ kadācidapi candanādikaṃ gandhaṃ na dhārayet ||

na tiṣṭhedityādi | sati prakaṭe deśe candanādyanuliptagātro yatiḥ glāno 'pi sanna tiṣṭhet | yadi bahirnirgantukāmo bhavati, tadā kṣālayitvā bahirvrajet | anenaiva vidhānena dhārayetkusumasrajamiti | kusumaṃ puṣpaṃ, srak mālā, tena kusumasrajamiti, puṣpamālāmityarthaḥ | kiṃ dhārayet? anenaiva vidhāneneti | pūrvaṃ tāvadbuddhāya dadyāt paścādātmanā dhārayediti | kīdṛśena glānena sragmālā dhārayitavyetyāha | netraduḥkhetyādi | netraduḥkhena śiraḥśūlena pūtanāgraheṇa ca rujituṃ śīlaṃ yasya yateḥ sa tathoktaḥ | tasya śīrṣaṃ kusumamālayā veṣṭayet | na ca puṣpamālāyāḥ mekhalāṃ lambayet ||

haritāletyādi | haritālādicūrṇena sugandhinā vā tailena varṇārthaṃ rūpaniṣpattyarthaṃ yatiḥ vadanādikaṃ gātraṃ na marṣayet ||

kimarthaṃ punarbhagavatā nṛttādi pratiṣiddhamityāha | yaterapratirūpatvādityādi | yasmānnṛttagītavāditraviśokadarśanaṃ gandhamālyavilepanadhāraṇañca yaterapratirūparāgakaraṃ auddhatyakaraṃ janānāñca kopakāraṇamavadhyā[na]karaṃ tasmājjinairbuddhairbhagavadbhirgarhitaṃ ninditaṃ ||

prasaṅgenānyadapi pratiṣedhayati | na darpaṇa ityādinā | ādarśe tailabhājane jalabhājane vā mukhaṃ na nirīkṣeta | kṛtagaṇḍāditvena śirovyathena śirovedhaduḥkhena gadena vyādhinā ca ya āturo glānaḥ taṃ muktvā anyena nirīkṣaṇīyaṃ | kiñca vibhūṣaṇāyetyādi | yatiḥ maṇḍanārthamātmano mukhaṃ tailena nābhyañjayedantaśaḥ pānīyenāpi | śirorogetyādi | śirasi rogo vyādhiḥ, āsyaṃ mukhañca sphuṭitaṃ yasya yateḥ sa tathoktaḥ | tasmādṛte anyeneti yāvat | na kuṅkumetyādi | yatiścandanakuṅkumādicūrṇena vadanaṃ mukhaṃ na maṇḍayet | piṭakasya tu śamanārthaṃ tilakalāpaprabhṛtibhiḥ lepa iṣṭo 'bhipreta iti yāvat | yastu yatiḥ śaithilikatvādinā yathoktaṃ vidhiṃ na saṃpādayati, tasya duṣkṛtaṃ bhavati ||

kīdṛśaṃ punastūditādityakāle bhoktavyamityāha | sakturodanetyādi | pañcabhojanāni kālikānisaktubhaktakulmāṣamatsyamāṃsākhyāni | kadācidetāni pañcabhojanāni saptāhikādisammiśrāṇyapi bhavantītyāha | yāvajjīviketyādi | yāvajjīvikena pippalyādinā tailādinā pānakaiśca yatparivarjitaṃ tatkālikaṃ | kiṃ punaretadeva pañcavidhaṃ bhojanaṃ kālikamutānyadapi? anyadapītyāha | yatkiñcidadyate dantairiti | anena kharaviśadaṃ vastvabhidhīyate | galake vā praveśyata ityanena nāsikayāpi yatpīyate tadapi galakenevābhyavahriyata iti, tasyāpi pratiṣedhaḥ kṛto bhavati | anyathā hi vikāle kṣīrapānamadoṣāya syāt | kukṣiviṣṭaśabdenobhayapadābhihitaṃ vastvabhidhīyate | kukṣerupastambhakaṃ paripūrakaṃ karotīti kukṣiviṣṭabhaṃkṛt yade[ta]tsarvaṃ tatkāle ādyādityodite, madhyāhnādarvāgyatirbhakṣayedityarthaḥ ||

vikāle tu yadbhoktuṃ labhyate, taddarśayannāha | saktvādyāmiṣanirmuktamityādi | saktukulmāṣādibhirāmiṣaiḥ parityaktaṃ | kīdṛśaṃ? nīrajaṃrajorahitaṃ kardamādikaṃ | deve varṣati yā śilā patati, tadvarṣopalakaṃ aśnīyāt, bhakṣayet | pātumicchā pipāsā pānābhilāṣaḥ, tenārtaḥ san himaṃ yatiḥ pibediti śeṣaḥ |

kathaṃ punaḥ kalpikodakaṃ grāhyamityenaṃ vikalpya avasarīkartumāha | kalpyavārigrahamityādi | kalpikasya vāriṇo grahaṇaṃ kalpavārigrahaḥ, tasmin | kalpikodakagrahaṇa (SŚ 70) nimittamiti yāvat | yāvatā kālena dvau hastau prakṣālyamānau sarudhirau bhavataḥ, tāvantaṃ kālaṃ tau na prakṣālayitavyau | nāpyaṅgulī prakṣāla[ne] kalpikodakaṃ grāhyaṃ | māyetyādi | māyayā śāṭhyena | yukto yatistayoḥ prakṣālanaṃ na kuryāt yadi prakṛtyaiva snigdhatvagbhikṣubhavati, tasya snigdhatvaco yateḥ yau hastau tau saśabdau bhavataḥ, tadā śuddhau vedyau ||

kiṃ punarvikāle glānenāpi na bhoktavyamityāha | na dāsyathetyādi | kṣudbubhukṣā | tṛṣṇāśabdenāpi lokapratītorthaḥ pānābhilāṣa ucyate | tābhyāṃ pīḍito 'haṃ mariṣyāmi, yadi mahyaṃ vikāle bhoktuṃ na dāsyatha ityevaṃ yadi kaścidvirukto yatirbūyāt, tadā sa yatiḥ pūrṇe maṇḍakuṇḍe prakṣeptavyaḥ | āgalakādityavaśeṣaṃ | athaivamapyatināmayituṃ na śaknoti, tadā kiṃ kāryamityāha | aṣṭāsvadhautetyādi | aṣṭābhiḥ jale dhautaṃ prakṣālitaṃ yaddhānyaṃ kalpikena ca vastreṇa baddhaṃ tadanāmiṣe pātre tāmrabhājane anyatra vā prasthāpanaṃ diśeddadyādityarthaḥ | yadi tu taddhānyaṃ sphuṭaṃ sphuṭitaṃ vā sat glānāya pātuṃ na kalpate ||

prasaṅgenānyadapi pratiṣedhayati | lobhotthāpitetyādi | lobhenākuśalamūlena samutthāpitaṃ yatkāyavākkarma tena samupārjito yo vihāracīvarāhārastaṃ saviṣabhaktavadvarjayet | madyetyādi | madyavikrayaṇaṃ, śastravikrayaṇaṃ, viṣavikrayaṇaṃ, prāṇivikrayaṇaṃ, (SŚ 71) lākṣavikrayaṇaṃ ca vratī svayaṃ na kuryāt, na ca pareṇa kārayet, na ca tena madyādinā jīvikāṃ kalpayet | satkāretyādi | akṣāṇyucyante cakṣurādīndriyāṇi | teṣāṃ yaḥ saṃvaraḥ saṃyamaḥ lābhasatkārārthaṃ, sā kuhanā matā | vastrānnapānādikasya tu lābhasya prāptyartha yā cāṭuvāditā priyavāditā, sā lāpanā mateti | naiṣpeṣikatvamityādi | annapānādipratilaṃbhāya yatpareṣāṃ kutsanaṃ tad naiṣpeṣikatvamucyate | anyadīyasya tu pātrāderyadvarṇanaṃ guṇodbhāvanaṃ lābhārthaṃ mahayametat pātrādikaṃ dadyāditi tatraimittikatvamucyate | lābhena lipsetyādi | alpena lābhena yadvṛddhiparyeṣaṇaṃ lābhānāṃ sā lipsetyucyate labdhumicchā lipseti arthāt | ye kuhanalapananaiṣpeṣikādibhirniṣpannā lābhāḥ | tānetān mithyājīvān yatiḥ parivarjayet | kiṃ vadityāha | purīṣavadaśucivadityarthaḥ | krīḍetyādi | pareṣāmapahananaṃ paropaghātaḥ | krīḍākautūhalaṃ | kāyavāksamucchitaṃ sarvakālaṃ | viṭpradigdhamivoragaṃ, aśuciliptaṃ sarpaṃ yathā vratī parivarjayet | vipaṇītyādi | vipaṇiḥ vaṇikpathamucyate, yasya ghaṭṭa iti prākṛtajanapratītiḥ | tarantyasminniti taraḥ, kṣepaṇatīrthaṃ | gulmaṃ viṭapaḥ | evamādike channaprakaṭe bhūpradeśe kiṃ tiṣṭhettatra na cellaka iti vakṣyate | duṣṭapravrajitāyāḥ duḥśīlāpi sato pratijñāyāṃ āste | āha | pravrajite veśyārūpā jīvikāvā | guru (SŚ 72) kumārikā sthale vasatā avyūḍhā āste | etāḥ kiṃ? dyūtakāragṛhaṃ bandhanāgāraṃ anyacca yadvandhanasthānaṃ tat agocaro 'viṣaya ākhyātaḥ | tasmāttatra na tiṣṭhediti |

daśamaśikṣāpadamadhikṛtyāha | kāyetyādi | sakalena kāyena hastābhyāṃ pādābhyāṃ vastreṇa chatrādinā ca vratī rajataṃ rūpyaṃ, jātarūpaṃ suvarṇaṃ na spṛśet | kimivetyāha | jvalitāgnivata | prajvālitadahanavaditi | anena daśamaṃ śikṣāpadamabhihitaṃ ||

idānīṃ prasaṅgainānyadapyācāraṃ saṃgṛhṇāti campūkalahetyādinā | tatra campū hāsyaṃ, kalahaḥ kāyakalaho vākkalahaśca | dantakāṣṭhādanaṃ dantakāṣṭhabhakṣaṇaṃ | śeṣaṃ sugamaṃ | campūkalahetyādi dvandvaḥ | campūkalahadantakāṣṭhādanāni kriyā yasya vṛddhāntikasya yateḥ sa tathoktaḥ | snānañca pānañcāśanañca stotraṃ ceti snānapānāśanastotrāṇi, tairvyagro 'prāptāvasaro yaḥ sa evamucyate | snānādivyagraśca nagnaścaikavastraśceti punarvigrahaḥ | sa pūrvoktaśca kiṃ na vandyo yatinā yatiriti vakṣyate | mṛtkarmetyādi | mṛṇmayakarmaṇā yo vyāpṛto 'prāptāvasaraḥ yaśca tūrṇaṃ tvaritaṃ dvitribhūmikaṃ vihāramutkasati, āśu śīghraṃ ca yo vrajati, yaśca pātraṃ pacati, cīvarakarmaṇā vā vyagraḥ, sa vṛddhāntiko yatiḥ dvitribhūmikaṃ vihāramuttiṣṭhan yāvat pātraṃ vā pacan kiṃ na vandyo yatinā yatiriti vakṣyate | cūrṇetyādi | cūrṇakriyāyāṃ cailakriyāyāṃ vastrapātrādiśodhane ca yaḥ āsaktaḥ, akṣiṇī yaścākte dhūmaṃ vā pibati, pustakaṃ vā likhati, vācayati, so 'pi na vandyaḥ | viṭprastrāvetyādi | yaḥ śrāmaṇero varcakuṭi prastrāvakuṭiṃ vā gacchati, parasmai vā uddiśati, tamasi andhakāre vā tiṣṭhati, antarvāsaṃ vā vāsayati, uttarāsaṃgaṃ vā prāvṛṇoti, sa vṛddhāntiko yatiḥ varcakuṭiṃ gacchan yāvaduttarāsaṃgaṃ prāvṛṇvan na vandya ityanena yādṛśyāmavasthāyāmavasthito vṛddhāntiko yatirnavakena na vanditavyaḥ, sā avasthābhihitā ||

idānīṃ tu yādṛgvidhāvasthāvasthitena navakena yatinā na vaditavyaṃ, tathā darśayitumāha | avaguṇṭhitetyādi | avaguṇṭhitaṃ pidhitaṃ śīrṣaṃ śiro yasya yateḥ tena samantaprāvṛtena vā yatinā kiṃ vandya iti vakṣyate | saha upanahā vartete pādau yasya yateḥ sa sopānatkaḥ, tena upānahārūḍhenetyarthaḥ | jānu ca jānu ca jānunī, tayorjānunoryā jaṃghā tasyāṃ jaṃghāyāṃ muṇḍe[na] sphoṭaṃ na dadyāt | kimivetyāha | avinā yathā | avirmeṣaḥ | yathā avinā meṇḍakena dvayorjānunorjaṃghāyāṃ hanyate, tadvadyatirapi vṛddhāntikasya yaterjaṃghāyāṃ na vandeteti yāvat | bhadantadharmāvalokitamitrastvāha | sopānatkena na vanditavya | kimivetyāha | ravinā yathā | ravirādityaḥ | yathāsau ravirupānahārūḍhastadvadupānahārūḍhena yatinā na vandanīyamityakārapraśleṣenāvabodhayan vakti | kimetadbhadantamatameṣṭavyaṃ? neṣṭavyaṃ | kiṃ tarhi anveṣṭavyaṃ vinaye meḍhakasyaiva dṛṣṭāntadānāt |

vidhiṃ darśayannāha | samavasthetyādi | samavasthopaviṣṭasya yateḥ pādayugalaṃ karkaṭagrāhaṃ gṛhītvā śirasā vanditavyaṃ | yadā samavasthāniṣaṇṇo yatiḥ pādarogeṇa glānaḥ syāttadā vināpi karkaṭagrāhikayā vandyamānasya na doṣaḥ | yadi kaścidāgatyāgantukaḥ samavasthāniṣaṇṇama[bhivādayati], tadānena vaktavyamāyuṣman, (SŚ 76) kati varṣosi, katamaste nikāyaḥ, kati ca tasya nikāyasya bhedāḥ, katamā te sāmayiketyādi | so 'pi yadi āryamahāsāṃghiko bhavati, tadānena vācyamāryamahāsāṃghiko 'smi | tasya cedbhedāḥ

vādinaścārthasiddhārthāḥ śailadvayanivāsinaḥ |
bhādrāyanā haimavatāḥ ṣaḍbhedā mūlasāṃghikāḥ ||

dairghī haimantakī graiṣmī vārṣikī ca tathottarā |
śrāmaṇereṇa vijñeyāḥ pañcaitāḥ sāmavāyikāḥ ||

ityevamanyadapi vivarjayitavyaṃ | tatra yo navakastena vanditavyaṃ, vṛddhena cārogyamastviti vācyaṃ |

athārogyamiti ko 'rthaḥ? yathā vātapittaśleṣmādayaḥ kupitāḥ santo bādhanārthena rogā ityucyante, tadvat rāgādayo 'pi kleśā rujanārthena rogaśabdavācyāḥ | na rogaḥ arogastadbhāva ārogyaṃ | kleśaprahāṇaṃ tava bhavatu | tathā cāha-

rāgādayo hyatitarāṃ rujayanti yasmādvātādayaśca kupitāḥ sakalaṃ janaughaṃ |
tacchāntivāñchina parāḥ praṇateṣu tasmādārogyamastviti vaco nigadanti buddhāḥ ||

(SŚ 77)
anya āha-

yattu jarāmaraṇaśokabhayairvimuktaṃ, yadvarjitaṃ śaśihutāśanabhānutoyaiḥ |
yacchāśvataṃ padamanuttaramacyutañca, ........ ||

sa[ka]lairbhikṣubhiḥ śikṣākāmaiḥ vikālabhojanādikaṃ kṛtaṃ kasmādvayaṃ na kurma iti | āvāsakalpaḥ- amuṣmin vihāre bhikṣavo 'nyonyaṃ kāyasaṃsargaṃ kurvanti kasmādvayamapi na kurma iti | deśakalpaḥ- amuṣmin deśe vārddhuṣikabhikṣavaḥ kasmādvayamapi vṛddhi na prayacchāmaḥ | sthavirakalpaḥ- amukasthaviraścāpi sandhikāle bhuṅkte, kiṃ vayaṃ na bhuñjāmaha iti ||

bhikṣuvinayātsamuddhṛtamācārāntaraṃ na tu svamanīṣikayānyatkṛtamiti darśayitumāha | vinaya iti | vinayante 'nena kleśā iti vinayaḥ | samadhigataprātimokṣasaṃvareṇa bhikṣuvinayasaṃkṣepāduddhṛtaḥ | anyattu śeṣaṃ yadbhikṣuvinaye vyāsato nirdiṣṭaṃ | aśanavasanādau yathā pratipattavyaṃ tadupādhyāyācāryavṛddhatarebhyaḥ sakāśādyatinā śrotavyaṃ, tena sagauravena ca bhāvyaṃ |

śatadvayenetyādi | etadantaroktaṃ śrīghanācārasaṃgrahaṃ saṃhatya yatsukṛtaṃ kuśalakṛtaṃ tena sukṛtena karmaṇā jano lokaḥ asaṃskṛtaṃ nirvāṇaṃ prāpnotu labhatāmityanena ślokena pariṇāmayati ||

(SŚ 78)
iti jayarakṣite(na) nibadhya ṭīkāṃ, sakalajanāgamamalimlucopahartrī |
śubhamativipulaṃ mayā yadāptaṃ bhavatu jano 'khilastu tena buddhaḥ ||

suśrīghanācārasusaṃgrahasya kṛtvā hi ṭīkāṃ yadavāpi puṇyaṃ |
jano 'khilastena śubhena tūrṇaṃ jino 'stu vikhyātaguṇodayaśrīḥ ||
